ALICIA KEYS GETTING HIV/AIDS AWARENESS OUT

Alicia Keys was among several celebs (Tom Hanks, Sharon Stone, Elizabeth Taylor) who have teamed up with designer Kenneth Cole for a new AIDS campaign. The celebrities have put their footprints in cement slabs to boost awareness about AIDS. The slabs will be displayed throughout Manhattan, New York on World Aids Day (December 1st). Meanwhile, celebrated photographer Mark Seliger captured the celebrities making their marks. The photos will accompany the street exhibition.

HIV/AIDS HAVE REACHED CRITICAL LEVELS FOR THE BLACK COMMUNITY

A new report about HIV and AIDS in the U.S. black community is out and it’s BEYOND scary.
- Out of the 43,000 new HIV cases in the U.S. in 2003, 48% (just under half) came from the black community.
- A black woman is more than 12 TIMES likelier than a white woman to become infected with HIV.
- AIDS is one of the TOP THREE CAUSES OF DEATH for black men ages 25 to 54 and for black women ages 25 to 34. (more info & links)
