I heard Dave also has a movie/documentary coming out in March on Yahoo! that looks like its going to be soooooo funny. Saw the preview. Some musicians like Jill Scott, the Roots, Common, etc are also going to be on there.

i have so much respect for Dave C. To walk away from so much money because it’s not what you believe in is incredible.

That fool is stone crazy! He knew he believed in that money more than anything, he left so he could get help with his drug problems….before anyone could find out! To bad they ended up finding out anyways, and he had to come up with some lame excuse that would go over well with the black people who believe in him. Obviously, it worked!

He’s also going to be on the Bravo Channel on the Actor’s studio with that corny white guy—-who from all outside perspectives looks like a big cheese puff….but hella progressive.

I think and I hate to beat this issue to an absolute pulp-thats its primarily about race, his autonomy as a creative writer/producer and the direction he wanted to take his show. If you listen to his act its hella funny but with a huge dose of race and politics and i think its just getting a little too close to home for the folks at comedy central.

They can handle the “Rick James Bitch” stuff but if it gets too intelligent, to politically now and relevant its a wrap.

And I think thats a lot to take 50 million or no 50 million. BET (pre or post Viacom merger) wouldn’t give him that kind of money–same goes for tv one etc.

How much will it take you guys to sell out? When your name is on something and people wave money in your face but want to fuck with your product you have to decide. Dave’s work is his legacy- something he have to look back on and be proud of. 50 million isn’t worth the misery that was attached to it. His name means something now. He can get gigs. How much would his name be worth if he sold out and went along with the creation of a lame show?

am i the only one who thinks it’s weird for dave to even appear on oprah? i mean, look at her audience and viewers. do white middle-class housewives really care about dave chapelle? it just doesn’t make sense to me. not to say that he doesn’t need an outlet to tell “his side” of the story; i just think the oprah show is an ineffective forum.

Omigoodness, the Chappellestheory.com is beyond ridiculous. Its funny as hell and sound’s like it would make an awesome Chappelle’s skit. However, anyone who believes its true needs to turn in their elementary school diploma and come my way b/c I have a bridge to sell him/her.

Charlie Murphy (Chappelle Show cast member) has already admitted to being the creator of the Chappellestheory.com, where has everyone been? I have even more respect for Chappelle for backing out of the deal. He came to the realization that if he needed to sell out, he’d get the hell out. His integrity to his craft was more important to him than the money. And if he was the big druggie that everyone makes him out to be, it would have made more sense to stay on and collect the money to fund his drug habit.

Uhm.. I wonder is oprah gonna play that skit. U know, the one where Chappelle yells out “I got u, Biotch!” after Oprah calls him to tell him that she’s preggers.

Yeah, the “he’s on drugs” theory is really quite stupid. Like someone already said, if he were, why quit? Wouldn’t he need the money even more?

Damn, just because somebody is skinny and black, they gotta be a crackhead? Dumbasses.

baffled, I think you’re wrong. I mean, come on, it’s Oprah! Everybody watches Oprah. Especially now that some TV exec finally got a clue and they now re-air it at night. And even if you don’t watch it, everyone will be talking about it the next day anyway.

baffled…Oprah is a forum for all different subjects…imnot sure if you watch her show if you think that someone with the buzz of Chappelle wouldnt be on it. Oprah has a black peformer on her show every other episode or something, you think “white middle class housewives” are going crazy about them?

the answer is YEEAHHHH…if Oprah tells em to..also…everyone watches her show so it’ll get him plenty of publicity

haha that dave chappelle theory is quite hilarious and im gonna be “guluble”, cause u never know that shit could be true! THE DARK CRUSADERS ARE THE MOST POWERFUL BLACK PPL IN THE WORLD LMAO. Anyway, the dave chappelle show is hilarious it is also quite degrading to black people!

Dave’s original audience was white middle-class men. Remember the movie he made that all yall’ fronted on. (Half Baked), that was the reason he even got the show in the first place. Truth be told, Black folks came to Chappelle late (after the show), he was already a underground superstar and his main boy (Neil Brennan, another White boy) was one of his main writers.

In regards to Chappelletheory.com it states that on August 31st 2004 Dave placed a call to his father. Daves dad Bill Chappelle passed away in the late 90’s so to me it seems to put the whole thing in question as to its veracity. All I know is Dave is a sweet and chilled cat. I see him all the time here in my little Ohio hometown and he’s totally cool with everybody. He’s as sharp as an ice pick and seems very comfortable being in a place where people don’t fuck with him. Dave saw all this shit comin…I think of that every time I see the end of his show with him in shackles holdin a wad of bills. Bottom line is the man is brilliant…he ain’t smokin crack or any of that shit. Let him be creative, let him make us laugh…and let him lead a life where his beliefs arent constantly compromised and criticized. Money is the root of all evil…and Dave ain’t got an evil bone in his body. And to Bill Cosby…chill the fuck out!!

If you guys check the Chappellestheory.com’s website it has a disclaimer basically saying “we’re putting this here for the idiots who think this is real.” Also I’ve been a fan of his since before “Killing Em Softly” his 2nd comedy special as far as I know, and I’m sure I’m not white.

When has dave ever been concerned about social comentary…whether or not the “chappelletheroy” is real/true…it does some odd that he’d talk about the same things the “dark crusaders” were concerned about…after watching the episode it seems as if dave had something more to see…seemed as if Oprah felts she could ask whatever she wanted and a often as she wanted cause she knew that he wasnt gonna give tell whole truth…this could be the completion of the “dark cursaders” goal…again this is said considering that every lie has some truth to it…?

First off I am by far the biggest dave chappelle fan. His stand-up dwarfs his television show. Comedy Central is going to show 6 episodes of chappelle. So he is getting his money one way or another. He doesnt need that money thats why he walked away. He generates so much money from his nationally sold out tour annually. He has a documentary that is coming out. He is the envy of most cus he does what he wants. he doesnt rock gold chains cus he cant its cus he doesnt feel like it. White America has a problem with a successful black man and black america has a problem with a black man putting his integrity before money. He doesnt need this show, Comedy Central does. He’s not on drugs and like he said on oprah those white folk put him in a position to fail. That probably already felt uncomfortable giving him all that money in the first place so they set up an environment where he not only would be doing what he was doing the previous 2 seasons but more and u cant function and deliver a product if you got a hundred other things to worry about. Bet u they never did that to Jerry Seinfeld. Friends got a $1 million dollars an episode, 6 of them times 13 episodes thats 78 million dollars. Dave chappelle 50 million for 2 seasons and he’s the star it does equal out talentless Friends cast as a whole for 2 seasons get $156 million for 2 seasons vs. Dave Chappelle gets 50 mill for 2 seasons doesnt ad up and he’s the star. hes funny they arent black man will forever be under paid and exploited in entertainment on screen and off.

LEAVE DAVE ALONE. HE ISN’T ON NO DRUGS. I’M SICK AND TIRED OF PEOPLE TALKING MAD SHIT ABOUT HIM. FOR THE 2 GIRLS WHO SAID IF HE WAS ON DRUGS DON’T YOU THINK HE WOULD TAKE THE MONEY TO SUPPORT HIS HABIT AND ALSO WOULDN’T GIVE TO SHITS ABOUT SELLING OUT. DAMN GET OFF OF HIS NUTS. I WISH HIM ALL THE SUCCESS IN HIS LIFE.

I kinda believe chapelletheory.com and then I kinda dont b/c 1 guy said that Daves dad died in the 90’s. Now if this is true then chapellestheory.com is a joke on us. But if it is true then we got some shady and no doubt powerful ppl that we look up 2. Farrakan seems like the kind of dude that can have u killed in a heartbeat. Oprah is shittin money. Boo-boo always green. I think Cosby got sum killers 2. But who knows if the “Dark Crusaders” meet or even exist?

Dave dont give a fuck about that money. All he did was use Oprah to promote his new documentary. He could care less he is so paid. Half Baked was low budget and he made a shit load of money off of it, its a cult classic. More than likely he made far more off of half baked than he would have made with that big chappelle show contract.

Hello,
I posted a very insightful comment on this forum on February 6, and it is no longer here. Can anyone tell me where I can find it. It is possible that the comments made, although unoffensive, might have held a little too much truth and rubbed some people the wrong way. I emailed the webmaster to inquire about this on Friday and received no response as of yet. I’m hoping its just a misunderstanding on my part. I am new to the site and don’t know how to navigate it well, b/c it’s so cluttered. I realize taht it’s possible that anonymous posts are discarded after so many days. I think it’s very interesting to say the least that I did not receive a response. I will no it’s a conspiracy if this one disappears as well. Please respond if you can give me a clue where to look.

I just want to mention again that the Chappelle Theory website is a hoax! It was created by Charlie Murphy, and the guy who plays Ashy Larry (not Neil the writer) because the two of them are in production to make a film.
