Actually, pretty much all female celebs wear weaves these days. And, to be frank, the white girls’ weaves are often much worse than anything you see Serena with (and at least she has a little bit of an excuse cuz she’s an athlete and sweats). I think it’s difficult to spot white-girl weaves because as black women we look at the differences in texture to spot a weave. With white girls the texture is the same but the color is what tips you off that it’s a weave. You wanna see some bad white-girl weaves, look at Britney Spears or Jessica/Ashley Simpson. Oh, and Xtina Aguilera. Them hoes always have fucked up weaves!!

I think many black women (not just Americans, I see black women in other countries doing the same thing) wear fake hair because they chemically relax it. Relaxing your hair IS damaging your hair and then they wonder why their hair “don’t grow”. Relaxers make the hair strands weak and cause them to fall off easily and faster. This makes hair seem not to be growing when it is, but relaxing it just makes it fall off so the hair length doesn’t change or becomes shorter. A lot of (but not all) black women w/ relaxers have this prob and resort to extensions. They really should be relaxing less often or not at all. Kinky hair is fragile not invincible.

it’s interesting. i’ve dated women from nigeria, ghana, jamaica, west indies, ethiopia, eritrea, african american, india, and other countries. the countries i mentioned, all the women were dark, all were beautiful, if not physically, then definitely spiritually. i was making a point in response to some of the comments i read about mya. you’re right in that beauty is one’s personal preference. it just seemed to me that some comments were based on her looks versus someone darker, considered more authentically black, and i’ve seen that before. it’s ugly spiritually. i know some folks scarred pyschologically for years, even life, from some elementary, junior or high school bullshit. i think you missed one very important thing i said. isn’t ethiopia in africa? wouldn’t that make the woman i talked about less mingled with european blood than either you or me? or is it that ethiopian’s features are less like what’s considered authentic in our culture and that makes them undesirable to us? of all the nations in africa, ethiopia is the least invaded, occupied or conquered country on the continent. that means less intermingling among different people. it also means that we do come in all different shades and features, whether we’ve mingled or not with other cultures foreign to our ancestral home. what i meant to convey is that we hate on and ostracize people for the pettiest, ugliest reasons imaginable. it’s stupid and small/narrow-minded, ugly to the core. really, its a symptom of poor self-image and of a need for serious self examination. as for my other point, i used specific examples that you jumped on in your reply. let me put it another way; our ancestors did what they could to survive in this imperfect, harsh society. they did whatever they felt was necessary with an eye towards the future and a better day for people of our culture. things aren’t as good as we would like them to be today, but don’t doubt that we have better opportunities, more acceptance in this country because of our ancestors investment. we are american because of their sacrifice, and as such we have knowledge of how this country works. so if you or i work at a dream we have in order to live a desired life for ourselves, our children and family, we most likley will reach a point where our progress could collide with whatever we decide we won’t do to compromise our integrity/self-respect. the choice is becomes, do i hold on to my values and stagnate, or do i compromise, make peace with my decision, and move forward with my dream, which eventually enables me to live the life i want for me and mine? put it another way, i’m selling chicken to a small loyal group of people. those people are my people, like me and there are others, not like me but familiar with my food. i make a good living, but not so good that i’ll have some freedom to do other things cause i don’t have to work to earn more money. now those other people not like me have copied my chicken and are selling it to their people and are making a killing, even tho their chicken ain’t as good as mine. what’s more, my chicken is a little spicier and only the hardiest appetites can handle the flavor. if i modify the recipe a little, it’s still better than the other peoples chicken and i can get more business, more income, and so on…..now, my people, my customers from the jump, scream sellout!!!forgot where i came from, you know the routine. the fact is i’ll only earn so much from my people because they only have a limited amount of money to spend, and eventually they will tire of my food and move on to something else. me myself, even i have doubts inside if i am selling myself out and abandoning what i thought was part of what defined me as one of my people. i’m making this up to get my point across, but you see where i’m going, right? what i do for myself, and for the ones i love and care about(such as blood and the overall community and culture) to achieve the life and freedom i want to hopefully give something back, that’s what eventually defines the type of person i wish to be, and not some other person’s ideal of what or who is real or authentic. feelme?
