Maybe I have a crazy mind, but I think that she had something to do with the entire set up of Kobe and the white girl. I am a married woman and I know the Bryant family personally. Just to let you know, Vanessa does not have low self esteem. She is a wonderful loving wife, mother and friend. She is expecting and she is due in May. When you see her in pictures and she is not smiling, she is probably unaware that her picture is being taken (telephoto lense, she is a real person so maybe she is just tired. We also know that Kobe not only cheated with a woman who worked in a hotel, he also was cheating with ANOTHER woman who he referred to in court documents. We also know that Kobe admitted, not to wrongdoing, but to poor judgment and to misreading the situation with the woman in Eagle. (He issued a statement to that fact.)
We also know that Kobe is not very well-liked by teammates or peers and had a major falling out with his own family. We also know that he is a genius with a basketball and has an enviable work ethic.
They are a young couple who may make their mistakes and have their issues as many do. The most disturbing thing is how many people seem to think that money makes everything right. Obviously, from what we’ve seen, it does not. Vanessa could be there for love or money or both. Kobe has already helped her family to the tune of $500,000 but he had it to give. I think when you are 17, with a high school education and no job skills, your options are limited. I would encourage young women to get an education if nothing else, because every relationship ain’t forever and with an education you will have options as well as confidence in your own abilities.
As for Kobe choosing a Latina woman, I’m sure that was disappointing since he did have a history of dating African-American women. As black women we often feel marginalized by our men as far as being objects of beauty. But on the other hand the majority of athletes and entertainers who are African-American have black wives of all shades and hues. So if Kobe choose differently so what? Shaq didn’t, Grant Hill didn’t, etc. etc.
I think people just dislike Kobe and his behavior in the past continues to haunt him in the court of public opinion.

I’m not surprised at all that Kobe married a non-black girl. I mean, he grew up in Italy surroundied by nothing but Italian women until he was a teenager. He even speaks Italian fluently, so as for as I’m concerned, he’s basically part Italian as far as his mindset towards women and what he finds attractive. Plus, his wife is beautiful, and any man, black, white, red, yellow, would find her attractive and possibly want to marry her. So, y’all need to stop hating on him marrying a white (hispanic or whatever) girl.

But as far as his wife’s choice to stay with him after he cheated, I think she really was in love with him and that’s why she stayed. Plus he knew that he messed up real bad and he was most likely doing some real serious begging and pleading after it all hit the fan. And since she’s so young, I don’t think she was strong enough to pick up and walk out like that. I mean, most older women aren’t even able to do that. Plus she had a baby to think about.

However, if it were me, I would have definitely divorced him because by cheating, he had broken the vow that we made before God and therefore the “marriage contract” that we made would have been broken. The way I see it, if a man is cheating or beating on you, then the marriage contract is broken. These are the parts specifying “to love honor and cherish” and “forsaking all others”. If he’s beating you, he’s not cherishing you, and if he’s cheating on you, then he’s not forsaking all others. Therefore, the way I see it, God will excuse you from that.

Having an affair is one thing. But, having unprotected sex with random hotel workers and other women just changes everything. It’s wrong on so many levels. I understand wanting to keep your marriage together. But, it’s also a bad example to stay with someone who will most likely be a repeat offender. This is just a dysfunctional example for the children and it has many negative repercussions.

I’ve noticed that black and latina women tend to try to stay with their men regardless, but sometimes you have to know when to let things go for your own physical and mental health.

A prenup was not signed, so all those people who said that Vanessa stayed for the money is slow. She could get a lot more money if she divorced him and took him to court. I just past the bar exam and I’m interning in a firm that deals with divorce cases.

Just so you all know, Kobe was with Vanessa before it was ‘legal’ for him to be with her. When her family found this out, they were outraged and thus causing the rush to get wed. Kobe was caught out there because he never settled down to being a husband. He’s a young man still trying to find who he is. That sounds kind of silly, but you have to take into account that he was born in the US, taken to an entirely different country as a toddler, raised there, then returning back to the states where he was ostrasized for sounding and acting different due to his upbringing in Italy. The reason being is because his family had him on such a high pedestal he wasn’t used to his new surroundings that didn’t cater to him, so basketball was his outlet. Kobe did everything different than other boys. He didn’t have a real girlfriend until he was a senior in highschool and then when he decided to go to the NBA, he caught the eye of Brandy and ditched his girlfriend to take Brandy to prom. So Kobe is a guy that is accustomed to getting things done his way. He wanted Vanessa, but he didn’t intend on marrying her, so that’s why if he sees a woman he wants he will go after her. Being a father came as natural as breathing because the man loves kids dearly. So as long as she keeps having kids, she ain’t going no where and being that many said that his marriage wouldn’t last, he will do any and everything in his power to see that they aren’t right. His pride won’t allow him to leave that girl. And being as she gets what she wants she ain’t going nowhere. But please believe she has friends.

Either way my point is still valid. All I said was she would get more money if she left him. Also he is a celebrity, he doesn’t have to be with her to take care of his responsibility. In most State you only have to be over 16 to become legally married. This is not illegal as long as you have consent from the legal guardian (which I bet Vanessa parents didn’t mind). Whether Kobe lover her or lust her, he is still with her by choice. Life would be alot easier for him to divorce with her if he wasn’t happy.
