TMZ.COM WANTS TO KNOW WHAT THE BLACK COMMUNITY THINKS OF R.KELLY

So I got this e-mail from the supervising producer of TMZ.com (which happens to be a gossip/news site ran by AOL) asking about my position/my visitors positions on this whole R.Kelly sex scandal. They are working on an article about R.Kelly, and want to know what the black gossip blogs have to say about it. Since I do not know your position, I decided to make a entry about the issue.
Here is the e-mail:
TMZ’s currently working on an article regarding the continued popularity of R.Kelly, a singer who still faces a 14-count indictment alleging he had sex with a 14-year-old girl and videotaped the experience.R.Kelly is currently booked to play Radio City Music Hall in New York on April 18th, and he was recently honored with the first annual Stevie Wonder Award for Outstanding Career Achievements in Songwriting at the Soul Train Music Awards two weekends ago, which was presented to him by Stevie Wonder himself.
We’d like to include some thoughts and comments from you, bloggers who focus on African-American pop culture, for our article about how R.Kelly’s popularity continues to sustain itself , despite the “elephant in the room” of the serious pornography charges against him.
Could you share any thoughts on this topic with us? Do you think it’s abhorrent? Do you think it’s OK that he’s being honored still for his music, despite the alleged charges? What do the readers of your blog tend to think about it..
So basically, why do you think he is still popular in the black community? I know most of us saw that Boondocks episode when they talk about the issue, but I want your feedback.
I personally believe he is a pedophile, and that he has been getting away with numerous crimes. Anyone who tapes themselves having sex with a 14/15 year old is a sicko, in my opinion. Better yet, anyone who messes with CHILDREN are sick! Yes, the argument is going to come up that the girls lied about their ages; that he didn’t actually know how old they were. Yeah right, do I have to mention his marriage to Aaliyah (who was 15 at the time)? He knew how old she was, and was still messing around with her.
The black community needs to stop supporting his ass. I don’t care how many hit songs he has, and how good a songwriter he is. He is a pedophile, and deserves to be prosecuted as such. Better yet, he needs to get ‘trapped in the closet’ for real this time. But whatever, you’re innocent until proven guilty. In this case, you’re innocent because you make a hit song.
Now it’s your turn to express your opinion. Comments that do not pertain to this issue will be deleted, ASAP!

I think that if you were not in the room with Robert and this alleged 14 year old then you cannot comment on this incident. If you were the one holding the camera, you saw the girls i.d, and if she is or was 14, she wouldn’t have an i.d. and you witnessed this sex act. Then I might listen and believe what you have to say. Otherwise, it’s just your speculation and opinion. Which you are intitled to, but how would you feel if your life was on the line, because of an image on a tape that resembles you having sex with a minor, and it’s not you? How would you defend yourself when the whole world has already labeled you and sought you guilty. I think that he is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law- whenever that might be- But do we just lock away all his accomplishments and not praise his gifts, and talents because he is accused. Or do we press on and stick with our brother in the time he needs us most. When and if the jury says “Guilty” then you can make your comments “I told you so”, but if the jury comes back “Not guilty”, what will you say then, The man is always trying to mess with a brother- but this time, it’s not the man- it’s our own people, who have turned their backs- And if I was R-kelly i’d keep making music using God’s gift, and not worry about those left behind, hanging on, clinging for his fall.

Well I can honestly say that I still support R.Kelly’s creativity as an artist. Thats about it though. I used to work at a hip-hop music store and we sold the tape under the table, so I’ve seen it a few times. Its sad. The worst part about the whole thing is that someone actually refers to the alleged as “R” a few time in the background. I guess it was the person taping it. Even if you personally feel like R.Kelly is innocent this time, this is not the first time he has let a child into his “Chocolate Factory”. Aaliyah beleived age was nothing but a number just like a lot of other teenage girls do, but as an adult we have to make sound decisions. Thats the difference between the two. I dont understand how people can blame the adolescent minds of young children. Statutory Rape is still RAPE. Rape is when someone is forced to engage in sexual activity against their will. Statutory Rape is when someone is forced to engage in sexaul activity against the will of the STATE or the LAW, and per the law’s will..under 18 is a minor. Everyone knows this, therefore when people have the nerve to point fingers at the minor, it shows pure ignorance because it has already been written no matter how YOU feel.
Another example, when a child wanders off and gets lost, he/she is more than likely not running away when they lose their mother. When the child needs help, they dont ask other children then normally ask an ADULT, and we as adults usually try to help. Why? Why dont you automatically just walk away and let them find their way alone? After all they shouldnt have walked off right? No, you automatically take on the role of a responsible adult to assist the child. Bottom line is that Adults have to be Adults all of the time, not when we feel like it. R.Kelly has little girls and I am pretty sure they have friends, question is where does the line stop? Surely not at 18, so where? Innocent until proven guilty is whats fair, but what would you do if your daughter/sister was that naive little girl on the tape?

R has skeletons in the closet no doubt. I wish I could say I’m gonna boycott his albums but I we all liked his music since before the accusations and video’s surfaced. It’s hard, it’s hard not to listen to good music. I just won’t let my family around him, he’s a pedophile but damn I love most of his music and collaborations.
