Isn’t she the girl from the ringtones commercial and from the Usher Yeah video? She looks nothing like Aaliyah. They have completely different bone structure and a different complexion. I think they are grasping at straws here but maybe in terms of everything such as dance, size, etc she is the best to play the role that is the only reason I can think of.

I guess we all got used to Jamie looking a lot like Ray in the movie. But, think back, remember when Angela played Rosa Parks, she sure as heck doesn’t look anything like her. Most of the people in remake movies don’t, it’s about their ability to capture the person’s personality. Since none of us have seen her seriously act, we don’t know. Also, Aaliyah’s life might be a little interesting to capture, the whole R. thing, Rocafella thing, young rise to stardom, etc.

i think i’d rather see destiny play the role instead of meagan goode. i just hope the sista can act as well as she can dance. if this project is going to take place, i hope it is as highly blessed as Aaliyah was.

I am a huge Aaliyah fan and feel like no one can do her justice in a movie but, I think this Destiny chick should have a shot. Aaliyah was truly one in a million, I didn’t know that they were planning on making a movie of her life story and I wish they wouldn’t. I loved Aaliyah, I’m a fan from way back, but I agree with someone else who said that they should let Babygirl rest in peace. I hate that now a days people think that everyone’s life (dead or alive) should be a bestseller or movie of the week. When Aaliyah was alive, she was very private person, people should respect that and not try to tell their version of her personal life.

I give them props for trying. How many somewhat muscular women with a small frame and even similar features are there? It’s not an easy task. She could pass as Aaliyah’s relative. If you think about it though, Jaime Foxx doesn’t look like Ray Charles, Joaquin Phoenix is far more attractive than Johnny Cash was, Angela Bassett doesn’t look like Tina Turner at all, and Cybill Shepherd doesn’t look like Martha Stewart.

i have truly mixed feelings about this aaliyah movie. i admired aaliyah in every way (and i still do) but i dont know if im ready to hear all these allegations about her i think they should let her rest in peace if she so called did all these other things (in addition to the r kelly scandal) why are we just hearing about it now?

I don’t believe that people are ready to see Aaliyah’s story yet,no one will ever be happy with anyone they pick to play her.The girl can miss one dance move and then people are going to be like “ooh see!!That hoe can’t even get the dance right.” I just don’t think they are ready.When it comes to Salena think about how over protective her father was,and everything he put her through,and then there was her manager.All of this drama made the movie,for the most part Aaliyah’s life was an open book,and her parent’s were supportive so I don’t know how interesting the movie will be.No one will ever tell the true story about her and R.Kelly so we might as well let that go.Destiny just needs to do another ringtone commercial and keep it moving.

While you are right, that the actor/actress doesn’t have to look exactly like the person they are portraying, but ususally they will pick a more
“Seasoned” actor/actress to play the role since they do such a good job at making the audience believe in what they are watching. This is true especially if they don’t look like the person they are playing. How does one make the leap from dancing to My Humps in a dressing room, to acting. I hope they don’t expect to make much money from this. I know JLo did it, but lets’s face it, in the Latino community she was well known enough at the time to draw in a large audience. That and she had a genuine interest in song and dance which made her the right candidate for the role. Nobody knows this girl. Someone mentioned Angela Bassett, Jamie Foxx, Will Smith, Halle Berry, while they played people who arguably, they looked nothing like, their acting and name alone could carry a biographical movie.

Its not just about if she looks like Aaliyah or not, she has to have class and dignity and all the other qualities that Aaliyah had and JUST from how she looks you can tell she has NONE of those things.

i think Davetta Sherwood from Y&R is the best choice…this video girl looks like an impersonator…plus i think the acting is more important than the physique.
