‘DEEBO’ ROBBED AT GUNPOINT IN L.A.
Wednesday, April 26, 2006
Eurweb.com reports that, Tommy “Tiny” Lister, known for his role as “Deebo” in Friday films was robbed at gunpoint South L.A. yesterday. Here is the snippet:Lister, who has starred in over 60 motion pictures, had summoned key clergy to the restaurant to discuss gang violence. All the key Bishops and major churches agreed that law and order and safety are paramount to this community if we are to create the kind of community that South Los Angeles deserves. Bishop Turner, one of the hosts, spoke of safety in the community and what was needed in order to ensure a safe community for all. After they all agreed to band together as a group of clergy to focus on gang violence, homelessness, jobs and safe communities the meeting came to an end and all parties proceeded to leave in their fancy automobiles.[SOURCE]“‘Debo’ was the last to leave. Two young men approached him. He thought they were coming to ask for an autograph or to say hello. Instead, they pulled out a gun and proceeded to take his jewelry, his phone, his wallet and threatened to kill him on the spot. He complied.”
I was going to do a whole bunch of Friday refrences, but since this was a serious incident, I’m not even going to joke about it.

Here’s my beef. This is Deebo. You not going to do that w/o a gun. You know you would get beat down. I am so tired of these punk black boys/men, runnin to get a gun when someone disrespects them, or they have to prove a point. That to me is more of a b**ch, than a woman on her period. If you can’t beat up the person you don’t like, take it like a man and go lift weights. Black on black crime would be so low if there were no guns. (I know that’s an obvious fact) What I mean is these punks (they are punks, because only a real man would step with his two fist) would not do a thing if there was no gun. They would be too scared to do anything w/o a gun. You would see some real men steppin up to settle beef. Sorry for the long rant.

But in the past year the gun and gang crime has increased dramatically….Too many young kids are copying these American gangsta rappers and USA gang lifestyle. What a shame. So you Americans (cute non DL brothers especially) are welcome but leave your damn guns at home. LOL
This robbery is a shame…This is the reason why this no SNITCHING rule is deplorable. I pray someone snitches on these idiots and then they are beat in the public…jungle justice. They wont be robbing someone again

With all of the mass Capitalism mentality, urging us all to Buy Buy Buy & think about only ‘Me & Mine’, no wonder crime is increasing on a global scale. —————-
Ummmm, I think you need to reread my post…I never blamed an entire COUNTRY just and element within the country.
—————-
“Too many young kids are copying these American gangsta rappers and USA gang lifestyle.”
—————-
Let me explain something to you. (BTW Oprah has touched on this very issue, a few times talking to Karrine and the cast of Crash…when she talked about how Black Americans are viewed around the entire world, based mainly on gangsta rap music and videos/entertainment).
As someone who lives OUTSIDE of the USA I have a different and more clear and accurate perspective on this issue, as someone on the outside looking in, than you do. And unless you have lived outside of the USA and/or travelled extensively around the world you will never understand the magnatitude or power the American media and entertainment industry has on the REST OF THE WOLRD.
For example, in the average Canadian library it is easier to find more books on American history than Canadian history or US based scientific research…mainly because most of the big and research grants and publishing companies are American.
The rest of the world is bombarded with ‘American’ culture and entertainmemt, some good and some bad. And to think the most powerful country in the worlds actions and images (both good and bad) has no affect on the rest of the world ….is naive….because that is not the reality. There is so much ENERGY, POWER in WORDS and IMAGES. This was Oprahs point in telling Ludacris that when rappers are rapping about and glorifying bithces and hoes and sluts and gang life in their music, that is being streamed across the world it is alarming how many people emulate it…to the point that someone in Nelson Mandelas damn house greets Oprah and her people as ‘whats up Nigga’! Can you just imagine…well from my viewpoint I can.
I remember I was in Jamaica and my mother and I were laughing at this guy who was wearing a big down filled winter jacket…in a tropical climate…sweating his damn skin off. When we asked him why… he said he wanted to look like his fav rapper 50 cent. The man who gained popularity and was glamourized after he talked about getting shot 9 times due to his gang criminal lifestyle.

PARENTS!!! WAKE UP—& TAKE BACK CONTROL OF YOUR HOUSEHOLDS!
THAT IS ABSOLUTELY REDICULOUS THAT YET ANOTHER CELEBRITY COULD HAVE LOST GIS LIFE DUE TO THE
“IGNORANCE OF STREET VIOLENCE”.
THESE KIDS REALLY NEED TO BE “IN SCHOOL”-GETTING THEMSELVES TOGETHER & FOCUSED MENTALLY FOR THE “FUTURE THAT LIES AHEAD OF THEM” OR IN BED PREPARING TO GO TO SCHOOL & GET THEIR EDUCATION TO PREPARE FOR A “LEGIT” CAREER!!
NOT ROBBING FOLKS & KILLING FOR NO DAMN REASON AT ALL! THIS IS WHY AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAMS, & SUMMER PROGRAMS ARE IMPORTANT TO KEEP IN OUR COMMUNITIES. KEEP THESE KIDS OFF THE STREETS & OFF THE CORNERS.
THIS IS SOOO SAD FOR KIDS TO TAKE “THE LIFE” OF A HUMAN BEING AS IF THEY WERE “GOD” HIMSELF—& THE MAJORITY OF THESE KIDS HAVE “NO REMORSE” AFTER THE KILLINGS—IT’S SOOOO CRAZY! & SICKENING.
IF THEY KEEP GOING THE WAY THAT THEY ARE: THEIR FUTURE IS MINIMAL…BECAUSE CHANCES ARE THEY TOO WONT MAKE IT PAST THE AGE OF 23 (DEAD OR IN JAIL).
SAD.

Ethiopian,
I agree. But the reality is most black kids around the world are not being bombarded with the glorification of Italian and Russian and KKK music idols and images and words…. and even if they were… they would naturally be attracted to people who look like them.
For example the first year “Different World” was on US TV…do you know that enrolement of black youth, in college rose 25%…in just one year.
My best friend is a high school teacher here…who just graduated from the same high school she now teaches at just 10 years ago. Her and fellow teachers see a direct relation to the drastic increase in kids behaviour i.e. violence and overtly sexual behaviour to this gangsta rap culture.
Canadian govt ‘forces’ our TV music and radio stations to play a minimum of Canadian content…because American content was too dominant

And as my mother use to say her children…NEWS FLASH You are not white so you cant compare yourself to them…I dont business and dont want to hear about what white people are doing or what they have done…you are not white…you are black…so your life and choices ‘have’ to be different because in this world you are different and treated in kind…
you dont get the same priviledges/advantages they get or the get out of jail free cards they do…your history and the racism you will encounter is different than thier experiences.
You cant commit the same crimes they commit and get away with it like they can.

I agree w/u about emulating American culture. I was in England last summer and it was very difficult to find English trinkets. Everything looked American and I was told that trinkets had to cater to the American tourist. The other day I was at the bus station and every other word out of the mouths of two young African male teengers (i knew they were African from their accents)was nigga. I knew they were using the word to try and be cool but it was annoying to me.

Reggie,
And the funny thing about the ‘Americanization’ or what I like to call ‘McDonaldization’ of the world is
as much as Americans are hated around the world (people all over the world love to talk smack about you people)…they are also the country that almost everyone secretly admires and emulates.
Its almost like how you fight and say you hate your older brother but you secretly want to be like him in every way because you put him on such a pedestal.
Check this out my friend Is Iranian. This is a country where women have to have thier head covered ….drinking alcohol is against the law and punishable by whippings (think Passion of the Christ movie type lashes…40 of them till you are unconscious), to say they are anti-American is well known (which mainly means anti USA govt and policies)
…..and guess what my friend made me listen to when he got back from Iran recently…no word of a lie…
a Persion ‘50 Cent’ singing IN DA CLUB in Persian language…had the same beats as the original.
My friend says he acts just like 50 and is huge in Iran amongst the kids…underground that is.
I was rocking to Iranian 50 CENT laughing my black ass off for a week.
I will see if I can put a link here.
Man that is the impact….and POWER these black American rappers have around the world and what are they doing with it?
Miss Angelina (God bless her little white ass LOL because she loves and supports my people more than some of my own people) can blow all these black men and women rap artists to shame. Why is no one holding these idiots to a high level? They are getting bigger and many of us continue to support them blindly?

Julia Claudine,
To change the subject for a quick second………..
have you ever visited Toronto for Caribana?
If not, you should check it out. An annual long weekend festival, with a street parade celebrating Caribbean culture and music (well R&B and hip hop and rap are now included…Americaniztion at its finest). A lot of Americans and celebs come now. Big party weekend…over a million people. I think the 2nd largest street festival in North America.
P.S. *whispers* Bring single guys like RomeGeez and Dukesman with you *COUGH* damn, us Canadian girls love us some purty American guys *wink* LOL
Its funny how some jealous Canadian black guys, even put on a fake American accent and pretend they are from the US that weekend, because when these hot American men come, we pay no attention to them.
