so I admit that I am unhealthily obsessed with this woman… I’m not gay, at least not until I meet her! LOL. Anyway, I rewatched the whole season and on that 1st episode what she said was her father was a “Yoruba Priest”, which she probably meany to refer to the Yoruba spiritual tradition, which is the main tradition carried over with enslaved africans all over south/central america… people identify themselves with that all over the world, but it doesn’t mean that they were born in nigeria… maybe she has some nigerian ancestry, but maybe a lot of us black americans do… we can thank history for the “maybe”.
And I saw an interview from a swedish magazine that had one of these pictures in it, aparently they were candids from a print press conference promoting that dance movie “take the lead”… so don’t be so harsh people, its not a photo shoot. the white background is standard.
yea.. like i said. obsessed. haha

I cant beleive you are the same star sign as me, birthdate aswell, and all though eva is in october, same sign also. Both strong independant and black female’s. Deserved to reach as far as you lot did, in the competition, most beautifull ladies and i personaly feel, people from our ethnic background should appreciate the talent and open gateways sisters like you are opening for t us, there certinaley is no hate here, and no need to be, if you have got credibilty to be something you can, its about how hungry you are and how far you push yourself to reach your goals. Love where’s the love people you finally see one of your own getting through, be glad, and stop the hating, they are lovely girls.

Hey there people, don’t really know anything bout wot’s goin on here, came across dis page while doin family research. Thot I’ll shed some light.
During the slave era, a large no. of West Africans, Yoruba Nigerians to be more precise got shipped 2Brazil, carrying their culture and tradition with them. This Yoruba tradition is still very much evident in nuff parts in Brazil, Cuba, Puerto Rico et al (…practically a large portion of Latin America), that some don’t even know it’s Yoruba. Ask bout it.

Me, bein English(born n bred) & Nigerian(Dual-nationality), Mother Nigerian, Father an American, Grandmother a Yoruba Da Costa by Birth, I could choose to claim either heritage.!?! …Personal choice, u get me.
Not sayin I’m related to Yaya, dunno who she is. (I’m sure not every “Smith” or “Perez” are cousins. …maybe?! who knows). Point made?
Like Wesley Snipes, Chamillionaire n nuff others, its good to know where ma roots lie. Don’t av to live wit it. U dig?
    Bless.

yaya she is realllllllly hot i wonders why she did not win

Yaya Hmm!! I think she should have learnt some sense by now as well as humbling her self. There is a saying in the Bible that goes ‘humble your self and you shall be lifted up. And oh there is another one that goes ‘Pride goeth before a fall’ I need not say much but in my opinion Eva deserved to win the ANTM and she did which i was happy.

If all black educated girls roamed the streets and made noise about their education i dont think there will be room to listen to anyone.

(Need i mention oh! i have a first degree and currently studying my MA in Business Management.))

Yaya get real your attitude on the show was very nasty and i dont see why you were surprised you did not win (you wanted it so badly) and oh you were not interested in modelling the first place, why go there??? Get behind your books to solidify that chicken degree by doing your masters and then your Phd perhaps!

A word to the wise is enough.

Yaya is ssssooooo beautiful! I found her to be very intelligent, amazingly sexy, often poised in stressful situations and anticipatory as the ANTM competition progressed. I think she has a very bright future ahead of her.

out with nappy hair and in with natural hair. Our African sisters, there’s a reason why God didn’t give u a white woman’s hair. Your natural hair is beautiful so keep it.

  17. Esener

why she gotta have man?i’m just jokin’ .she is sumthin.

  18. siamese

She reminds me of my niece Dacharette McCants. I am writing a book on her life and if it makes it to film she would be my only choice as the leading actress.

  19. judi

Yaya is a beautiful NIGERIAN YORUBA GIRL. She is very proud of her african ancestory and she mentioned it on the show.

  20. djauniversal

judi — Yaya is NOT nigerian. get over it. african-americans in america have been practicing Yoruba for many years now and it exists in many forms in South America. She is from Manhattan, her mother is from The Bronx and her father is from Connecticut. many americans have african blood , and yes, it is so wonderful to see someone, like Yaya, who is proud of her heritage and spirituality.
