(There’s so much that can be said about that one small preview clip that I’m getting a headache just trying to sort it all). What was it, some sort of parallel, male version of Tyler Perry’s “Diary of a Mad Black Woman”? Because if so, they failed miserably.

They manipulated the one key element in DOAMBW in order to make their a ‘point’ (or lack there of) which in the end, just makes them look ridiculous. If you have to change something so vital to the original to make a spin-off that challenges it, how smart is it, really? Yes Kimberly Elise’s character had a “no-good type-of-Brotha”, and she did find her ‘Prince Charming’ - and who was that? A Black Man. She didnt conclude that because of that one man, she has to go look for “Whitey” to be find happiness.

But as we see in the attempted cleverness of DOATBM, its the Great White Hope who is the savoir because ShaQuandaLisa (and all her chicken-headed girlfriends) are just too caught up on being “angry”. Than our hero, the just, innocent and noble “Black man” justifies her pettiness by asking her who bought the house and furniture. This insinuates that Black women are materialistic. And moreover, because he bought all those things, she has no right to complain about anything, right?

Have you ever seen me with a White woman before? What kind of weak defense is that? That is something irrelevent, to make his case seem creditble. Why I date a White woman? Is it so much, that I dont want to argue everyday? Interesting. The “White Woman” character is perfection and one dimensional (she has no faults), and it is presumptious that “Black Women” will indeed “nag” because they are Black women, and thats we do.

What I want to know is, is this movie supposed to open our eyes? To me it only closes the door. Its someone going against themselves (you were born of a Black woman remember?) and than publicly displaying it for all to see “the truth”. No, dont bother raising that fist up. That aint pride. Its a disgrace. When you have the oppurtunity to present your people, this is the route you take? Or maybe I’m just being another A.B.W (Angry Black Woman) again? Well ya damn skippy I am: I’ve got a right to be hostile - my people are being prosecuted … by my own people!

“The Man” has done so much damage to our people yeah, but that can only go so far. This is at the point where you cant blame nobody but yourself. You think shit like this is empowering to the race, to Black people? (Women are people too). This only gives non-Black film-makers the excuse that it is okay to make their Black characters like Amos-n-Andy because look, they portray themselves that way too! Some may not realize it, but “The Man’s Plan” is succeeding if this bullshit continues.

This is just biting off the hand that feeds you. You got some folk talking about ‘The Revolution’, Black nationalist this, Black pride that. And than also add that they could never marry a Black girl, too much work. It obviously wasnt too much “work” (Wait, too much work? That’s laziness. Wait look, yet another stereotype! Where’s my watermelon?) for your parents was it? Like I said earlier, all marriage takes “work”.

This not only shows how one perceives their people, but women in general. If a female isnt in agreement with you, or wants to voice her opinion, that means she’s nagging? She has an attitude? (Or my favorite, that we’re “angry” lol). Fools. “The Man” has you wrapped around their finger. You think that representation in this movie is uplifting? No, you’re only proving them right. That White really is superior race, and your women really are no good. You’re only in agreement with them, and help participate in the act of lashing on the no-good negroes.

And most of all, he’s got you to worship his woman and shouting it out on the tree-tops. That begs the question, what traits does a good woman have, exactly? Loyalty? Do Black women not have loyalty? Well, depends on your definition of loyalty; is loyalty not controllable? Will she accept bullshit with a smile? Will she never question your ‘right’ or ‘authority’? Does she know her ‘place’? If so, than perhaps those “other girls” are loyal, if thats what it truly means.

If one is so narrow-minded to beleive that All marriages dont take a lot of “work”; only ones within your own people; than you dont deserve to ever claim you are so “proud” to Black because that is a contradiction. What it really means, is that they rather try and make the effort into making it ‘work’ for a wife that is not Black. I have a family full of mixed raced people. Most of them are confused. One cousin says that she is neither white nor black, but biracial. She said she doesn’t feel that she needs to choose either race.

I find the whole black men-white women arguments so amusing sometimes. It’s actually entertaining. One thing I don’t understand is the “white women are more loyal,” from black men and “asian women are more loyal,” from white men.
How exactly does race affect loyalty? I’ve seen some black women stand by their men after they cheated. One of them was physically abusive. Some are still together. I just don’t see it.

If you’re saying that some women have high standards, then that’s a whole different thing and race has nothing to do with it. There are certain boundaries that aren’t crossed i.e. drugs, any addictions, cheating, chronic sloth, smoking, abuse of any kind, or disrespect. I’ve never had a problem with any of these, but then I’m selective. Race isn’t a factor for me personally because there are so many other things that are far more important to me. I don’t limit myself. Just like Prince Charming or the Knight in Shining Armor, the IBM (Ideal Black Man) is a fantasy. No one is “ideal.” Having that perception only sets you up for failure really, just like the perception that a white or asian woman will put up with nonsense. To all the men out there, if you think that white women are going to be more “loyal,” look inside and figure out what your flaws are before jumping to a white woman with low self esteem. Live and let live, but know that your arguments are baseless.

Oh, in conclusion, beautiful black women, try not to limit yourself. Keep your eyes and your minds open at church or work or school. Clubs are not good places to meet the love of your life; that’s more for some sketchy sex and we’re better than that. I especially recommend church because you’ll know that your values are the same. Work and school because, well, you spend a lot of time together anyway. I don’t recommend a team member, your boss, or your employee, and don’t be obvious about it. I do think that black women-white men unions are more accepted by both the black and the white community, than black men-white women. I don’t know why. Get over the color things, as it relates to relationships. Ain’t no need in losing sleep, the dogs is out of the gate.
Having been a little dark-skinned black boy growing up, I know the pain that your own people can cause, in terms of skin color. My daughter graduated from college in 2000, and told me that we still discriminate against each other.
Growing, I could have thought that “Black” was part of first name. That’s because, my name was often prefaced with that word.
I became spiritual(not religious) early on. That was the only way for me to deal with the intra-racial prejudice. I played basketball and used to travel all over so. California. To my face anyway, the girls of other races never called me “Black.”
I dated women of all races, the only wife was black. That’s not because I wouldn’t marry someone of another race, I just haven’t wanted to get married again.
I say all this to say, just because one is black, doesn’t mean that’s the only place one’s going to socialize. Also, be careful how you treat those little black boys. Travel is not as restrictive as it was when I grew up, and I still got around. If you don’t treat people correctly, they’ll go somewhere else.
Lastly, life originated on the African continent. When people moved to continents with less sunlight, they acquired less melonin. However, we all originated from Africa, everyone is African.
