If your looking for music with great social significance look on the bargain bins because that shit aint selling. The days of albums like Rhythm Nation are gone and for her to stay relevant shes had to adapt to the changes in music as well as the subject matter. She’s obviously succedded also because 20 yrs from the time she started we are still talking about her. And why does a middrift mean your selling sex. Why can’t it symbolize confidence or pride in ones physique or why can’t it just be a damn shirt? Maybe if Tracy Chapman would have slapped on a belly shirt we’d care about her next album (maybe not). And since when do you need a degree to make good music. Janet looks amazing. Personally, I’m over 40 and fabulous and I think miss jackson is sexy as all hell. Fortunately for me, i’m blessed with good genes, but if had had her resources I would have a personal trainer and nutitionist too.

Janet lost all that weight by not eating much and taking diet pills. I will admit that her body is sick but her face looks horrible. That first picture scared the shit out of me foreal. A friend of mines was taking diet pills (cortisol) to drop some pounds and after a while her face started dropping and she started looking sick as hell in the face im thinking Janet did the same. Im not mad at her for losing the weight but just be HONEST about how you lost it.

Not that I like either song but, how is it that Jermaine Dupri just gave 3LW a better song than the stuff he’s given Janet Jackson…It really makes you wonder?

Well first off — in my opinion — defending my favorite artist(s) doesnt make me obsessive. Passionate, maybe. Obsessive, far from it lol Also, based on your statement on sex songs, I take it that you did not take a looksee at all the songs I listed that had “substance”. With that said, I find that [regarding the subject of sex in music] there’s an obvious double standard. I NEVER see anyone complain or criticize male artists who sing several songs that are extremely raunchy, sexual, etc. Singers like Ginuwine, Prince, R.Kelly, D’Angelo so on and so forth. Its seems that society finds it ‘normal’ and acceptable for male artists to make several tracks about sex because well, their guys.

Its not really about adapting to the changes in music or maintaining ‘relevance’ — JJ does what she wants to do with her music; writing/singing about how she feels at the moment. During the late 90s, party jams (think Puff Daddy) and bubblegum pop was the current trend, but those type of factors are not what she goes by like many other artists do. She came out with an album (The Velvet Rope) where many of the song subjects were rather depressing — in the sense that it wouldnt be something you’d listen to when you’re in a really good mood, lol.
