Damn I never knew that ADW had diehard fans like that!!! I used to watch too, but don’t remember this kind of detail.
The funny thing is Dawnn Lewis is older than Lisa, Jasmine and Cree and she looks great.
I think the photos of Lisa and Cree are just bad…Lisa looked good in “Enemy of the State” and in “Honey” mag…remember that…but it has been a few years now.
But Jasmine, who Arsenio once called the most beautiful woman on the planet, she definitely aged more than the rest, given how she was so held up as the redbone beauty of that time. But that’s what happens folks if you’re fortunate, you do get older. It doesn’t mean that you should hide in a cave…My friends in their 40’s have aged well. And Thank God, the women in my family look great from 30 on up….so I’m good…LOL

@#50- That set show was my favorite. Remember when Julissa was singing at the end, “Gilbert, Gilbert” in the other girls faces. And they started off singing,”Na- Na-na, nananana Na”ok, i could go on and on about that episode.

Umm…why is it okay to say that “black don’t crack” and that being 50/50 you age faster, but saying that a yellow/ red bone is sexy is wrong? Don’t get mad at us because you’re burnt by the sun. Don’t hate. Appreciate. Or buy some Dr. Palmers bleaching cream or sun screen. All the women in my family look 20 years younger than their age and the darkest is “red”, so being “mixed” has nothing to do with how you age. The most likely culprit is LIFESTYLE. I guarantee that your man loves the contrast of a yellow or red bone against his flesh, but he won’t tell your burnt butt. Watch how he reacts when one passes by. Then you’ll know what I say is true. Hurts don’t it? I hate to say it, but America has made us this way. Besides that non-sense of reverse color crap for the burnt is for the birds. They do need to do a reunion episode. I love A Different World I know they have it on DVD now. I need to get up and buy it. I remeber when Kim hooked up with Freddie’s white cousin Matthew and she was being ragged on by some of the black dudes for dating the white boy.They called her a sellout. I know Cree is the most paid out of all of them. I know she was the voice of Penny on Inspector Gadget. I was about 5 or 6 when Suzie was introduced on the Rugrats 92. I remeber her as the voice of Elmira on Tiny Toon Adventures back in the day too. Girlfriend does voices for cartoons from the Disney Channel and Nickelodeon to Comedy Central. I know i have heard her on a blockbuster commercial.

And Living Single is my show too I have it on DVD. I love me some Max with her freeloading ass and Regine the Queen she is damn trip with her wigs & weaves. She changes hair like 3 or 4 time an episode. I have a cousin that is just like Synclair. Synclair gets on my nerves and so does my cousin

For those in the earlier post who loves some Jenifer Lewis, check out ‘Jackie’s Back’. Its a Lifetime movie now out on DVD that’s a little out there but good when you want to laugh - hard. It’ll have to do until she gets her own well-deserved show.

It is interesting that on DF, the lighter Blacks seemed to come from money while the ones that were darker than a paper bag struggled. But how would you explain Jada’s character? Some would consider her light but she hustled and made it known she was from the hood. Her gabby girlfriend never seemed to have much $ trouble and was definitely Black. I know the last season doesn’t really count ‘cuz we never got to know them. I think Debbie Allen may have been trying to get away from that as the show progressed.

Now I have a cousin like TXred or whatever. Yep, she’s barely Black and people could not believe we were cousins because ’she’s so pretty’.’ I may never be a glamour girl but I’m hella more fun and smart than most of these females who worry about how long their hair is and whether they should buy the D&G’s or Mahnolos yet not sure how to make next month’s rent. I don’t hate light-skninned women or my cousin (who is now a professional crackhead), I think instead of us beating each other down for what somebody doesn’t have, just look at the balance. Only ’cause a man may check out somebody else in his lady’s presence, it does not mean he’s even worth that person’s time, let alone a date. It actually considered cheating to most and nobody wants a man who cheats especially if you are already insecure.

Finally, I do not look like Bookman or some farm animal so this does not come from jealousy. I do work hard from a smart angle and that’s how I see success. If you really look towards the end of DF, who was really successful in their own right?

Boo, honestly I don’t have a problem with dark people. I just have a problem with people of dark complexion who feel the need to degrade or speak down on those who are lighter than they are. That’s why I kinda went off. As a matter of fact my husband is darker than you. Honestly, I’m not even worried about the brown girls with the big butts. Never have, never will. I have enough in the front and back to hold my own.

As for the young lady that stated that I’m most likely an ambulance chaser. Do you have a JD? Did it make you feel better about yourself? If I’m an ambulance chaser, then I must be pulling in a hell of a lot money to have a H2 (mine) and a Mercedes CLS500C (hubby’s X-Mas present) parked outside my house in Kingwood. Family Guy no doubt the discussion of dark-skinned v. lightskinned with Black people to me is still very much apart our contemporary slave mentality.

And while some of the associations that Asbury made are very valid, particularly coming out of late 80s early 90s which had to have been one of the pictorially worst times in Black America to be a dark skinned woman (with some of the images she outlined alone), some of it are our own personal calls to self-healing.

I mean every dark skinned woman on this board has the same story. I’m a product of a very fair grandmother who favored her fair grandchildren with light brown and blue eyes, but I am also a product of a mother who sheilded me and challenged my grandparents every step of the way from derogetory nick names etc. While also exposing me to beautiful black women who looked like me the list was few (in the mid to late 80s) but I got constantly shown images of Sheryl Lee Ralph, Grace Jones, Susan Taylor, Naomi Simms, Beverly Johnson the chick from She’s Got to Have it, on and on and on.

The discussion needs to be about healing in my opinion, forgiving the family members who perpetuated this non-sense and finding your own contemporary Jill Marie Jones’, Alec Weks, Kenya Moores, Kelly Rowlands,Jacque Reids, as proof that beautiful dark-skinned woman do exist and are fabulous. While not taking anything way from beautiful light-skinned women who do exist and are equally as fab and beautiful.

Props also to CL who show us these beautiful contemporary images all the time.

Oh, the greatest show of all times. I loved when the palyed the reruns in the morning and another hour in the afternoon. Dwayane and Whitley are my favorite. Some of the best shows were when Dwayne was with Kenu and Whitley wanted Dewayne. (The Best) We need more shows like these, the one’s the protrayed blacks in a postive way, even if they came from money or had to work hard to get through.

I still love this show! Alot of popular actors and actresses as well as musicians have passed through The Cosby Show and Different World, but mostly The Cosby Show.
