I just listened to the interview and I wasn’t a fan of hers before and I’m definitely not now. Yes she has an attitude but her biggest problem, in my opinion, is her inability to articulate and speak like she’s got some sense. From a Public Relation (PR) stand and from the content revealed about Keyshia on the 1st episode of her show, perhaps Keyshia has not been ‘trained’ how to answer questions so as not to come across as having a major attitude. For example, when Keyshia responded to questions/comments that she perceived as being compared to DMX or Mary J. Blige, she could have simply stated, “While others may have not so positive opinions regarding their situation, my show is fresh, honest, and filled with content that will allow the public to see a side not commonly made available. I definitely suggest that all keep watching because there is much that will be disclosed about not only myself, but the real deal of what it takes to be a successful artist.”

In other words, give her time, she is after all ‘from the streets’ - she wasn’t bred from a family that’s been in the music industry with the know-how of relating to the public.

She is definitely unrefined…she will eventually mature like Mary did.

@ PR Rep. I have to somewhat disagree with you. I’m not buying the ignorance defense b/c she’s from “da streets”. All artists need media training. I’m sure she’s had some. Whether she’s been receptive and applied that training is a whole other issue. I don’t know her but she strikes me as the type that would blow off media training in attempting to “keep it real/keep it hood”. All she needed to say was that b/c she’s executive produces her show (thus has say in editing) she has no issues in how she’s portrayed. Instead, she catches an attitude at the question (which is a standard question for anyone doing a reality show - it’s always asked). Also, Mary was high on just about everything early in her career - that’s how she stood in her own way. What’s Keyshia’s excuse? Besides just being ignorant?

None of the questions they asked her were invasive. “Where do you see yourself in the next five years?” and “Do you like the way they portray you in the show?” are pretty standard questions that EVERYONE in the entertainment industry asks. It wasn’t like they were asking her about her love life or what brand of douche she uses.

i think everyone’s being too hard on her. i thought the radio hosts shot their questions like machine guns at the beginning. they are also paid to make things edgy/entertaining. it’s as if they wanted a situation to rise up. i can see being defensive in the r&b/ hip hop music business. women are not thought so highly of. plus there are a lot of parasites that come out of the woodworks when you gain a little fame. she’s probably tired too. i would come off edgy if the hosts were slightly combative in their tone.

Comparing Keyshia to Alicia Keys is a no-no. Admittedly,Ms. Keys was tom-boyish when she first started out, but that’s completely different from being a hoodrat. She graduated valedictorian from her high-school, was accepted to Columbia, and has been an active philanthropist for most of her career. She was never bratty and inarticulate like little Keyshia.

Dang! This is my take: initially Keisha did get smart with the guy. I got the feeling that as one host asked questions the other host was making faces like, “Can you believe this *itch”. The female host was speaking more and more condescending as the interview went on. I am suprised Keisha didn’t catch that.

I just finished listening to the radio interview and I don’t think Keyshia had an attitude at all, I just think at the beginning of the interview she was taking some of the hosts’ questions the wrong way. My only complaint with her after listening to the interview is that someone in her team needs to go over her interview skills because she sounds like she doesn’t know how to communicate very well. I’m not trying to go off on her or anything, and I know she’s all about keeping it real, but some things can be easily improved upon and her communication skills are one of them.

I have recently began to like Keyshia. Once I saw her show I found out where she is coming from. I have respect and sympathy for her. She is real! Hey guys - there is a good mix of opinion here and I can see both sides. First, I think the comparison with Ms. Keisha and Ms. Mary is because they both have a gritty, husky street voice and, if you like their music, you can feel through their voice what they have gone through. (To me, Mr. Anthony Hamilton and Mr. Lyfe Jennings have similar raspy, “street” voices. You know,that type of voice that can’t really be practiced on or imitated.
But, as a media and PR person, I have to say that the DJ’s were giving her an OPPORTUNITY to clear up rumors about her so-called attitude, they did not straight-out accuse her of having one. Plus, if she had any type of publicist, they would have gotten a list of subjects from the Dj’s so there would be an idea of what they were going to ask her. But, as far not wanting people in her business, it is the price you pay for fame. And if you REALLY don’t want people in your business, then you may want to reconsider a reality show that follows you around to record all of your…business. I love her music, but you don’t disrespect media like that because they are the first ones you call when some negative ish goes down and you want the public support. Never diss the media - especially not the ones with clout like that. Bad move…

I’m not a big fan but I think this is blown out of proportion. I didn’t see the huge attitude–I just saw a girl who is very inarticulate and who has a flat personality. The host weren’t rude-they didn’t accuse her of having an attitude, they just acknowledged the fact that there are reports out there that she is stank. I think she is just being herself. She’s not fake. She is a little rough around the edges. She’s hood basically. But that’s her. I agree you do need to know how to deal with people in the business. You have to wear many faces. You have to know when to be professional, when to be hood, how to act and react. When your in the business it’s like every move you make is important because people are watching you. YOu can have a bad day and say the wrong thing and all hell breaks lose but the thing is one little interview doesn’t tell how you really are. It seemed to me she may’ve been intimidated a little by them. But also that from the beginning they seemed to have a certain impression about her and were trying to be a little funny towards her. I give her respect from coming where she came from and doing it big. She has to come into herself. But for now this is who she is. Try giving her praise. Usually, I have not been interested in anything that has to do with Keisha Cole. However, after listening to the audio tape, it does seem that the majority of the people who are posting their responses aren’t being true to themselves. The way that the radio hosts were treating this young woman was very uncall for. The majority of us would not take that from them without letting them know what you have on your mind. I believe she handled it very well, under the circumstances. She could have let them know how she really felt. They took Keisha Cole as a joke from the beginning of the show. I haven’t liked her since she appeared on BET. She was acting too manly and too ghetto. However, I must take her side on this one.

I don’t know…the majority of the radio interviews I’ve heard often go like that, as far as the series of questions and the personas and attitudes of the hosts. She could have been a little more open and a little more into the interview than she was. I mean, the object of the interview is to sell yourself and your show, not to be like ‘I don’t know….thats not me’. I did detect a little bit of stank in her attitude. Her music is alright, but it aint good enough for her to be rude to a radio host who has control of putting your records in rotation.

I have to agree with #135…they came at the girl the wrong way. I agree that the questions were harmless, but it was the way that they asked them. Not to mention the fact that before they asked her anything, they popped out with the negative hear-says…. I know that if someone came at me like their judging me, before they actually have any dealings with me..I’d be defensive as well. I think in all honesty we all would. Look back at some of the post made on here about people…judging folks without even looking at ourselves.

I didn’t grow up in the hood..but aren’t hard times simply that; hard times? I know that I can’t live my life based on my past. The world doesn’t owe me nothing, I owe it to myself to be the best person I can be regardless of how folks come at me. I think that Keyshia may need some positive re-inforcements, however I do not think that in this particular interview she had as big of an attitude as most of you have stressed. I think a lot of times we hear something said about someone so many times, that we actually convince ourselves that it’s true…and no matter what that person does or says, we’ve basically formed an opinion.

As for the “black men” comments…that was pushing it a little too far and totally out of context. However, most of my brothas do have major issues too but their not all in jail, selling drugs, and broke…that’s a sterotype, and completely false. There are a lot of professional black men in this world, doing really positive things but you don’t hear about any of them…that’s because the “media” focuses on the negative. There are just as many white and hispanic men that fit the criteria that someone mentioned about black men…so don’t be fooled.

Yes, Keshia did sound like she didn’t know how to handle the questions in the interview. She was very defensive. And I do believe that the things she went through in life helped contribute to that. Remember LL back in the day could not speak well. When he would get interviewed, he was all street, couldn’t put one sentence together to save his life. He couldn’t express himself and comedians used to rank on him all the time. But he got wise and hired somebody to give him diction lessons. And he is so articulate now, doing movies and whatnot, clothing line. Keyshia needs a team of people to help her. When she realizes this, hopefully it won’t be too late.
