Alisha considers herself black, so let her be black damn. She is beautiful and talented. And yes, other dark skinned sisters could have gotten the cover, but maybe they wasn’t on their job and that’s why Alicia is on it. She deserves to be on it because she is beautiful AND talented = FIERCE. Gabrielle is just as beautiful, but she can’t act worth a damn! : )

WHO’S RES?!?!?!!?!?!?
Omg, I’m mad. Res is a singer who came out with an album 4 years ago called How I do. She’s ridiculously underrated and was never really promoted enough for her to completely blow. She’s on Lauryn Hill’s level. She’s from philly too.
She’s touring with Gnarls Barkley right now, and she’s working on her sophmore album. But I suggest you go get How I Do, ASAP.

Alicia’s Talent: she gets mad props just cause she plays the piano… Everyone wants to make her out to be some musical genius, but please take away that piano, and she’d be nothing to scream about, she can’t really sing, she just screams to me and her first and last CD were mediocre to me at BEST,aside from Fallin, and A Woman’s Worth on the first one, and You Don’t Know My Name, and If I Ain’t Got You on the second… Take away that piano and she’d just be another light skinned girl ya’ll love to hate!!! On a positive note it does seem like she pours her heart into her music, writes her music, and produces a lot of it, so even though I’m not buying what she’s selling she does a hell of a good job pushing that mediocrity!
ALicia’s Look: Well she’s cute, but Beautiful and Gorgeous, she is NOT, IMO! She has horrible acne still, babygirl is mad photo shopped!! She got a huge over bite, and a big ass nose!!! SO hmmm I guess mulatto’s don’t have the best features… On a positive note she does have a great smile, and her eyes convey a great deal of sexyness(sp?) and mystery…
Alicia’s Cover: Well this cover is like a slap in the face… How can you have a cover that says black girls rule and then have a damn near white bitch on the cover! Trace get’s no love from me for that one… They could of at least put an obvious black girl on the cover!!!
Well that’s my 2cents….

Not crazy bout the first pic, but she’s looks like a show-stopper in the second.
I have to agree that I don’t see the huge deal about Alicia artistically. I mean, she is good, but I don’t think her debut album should’ve recieved all that acclaim. It was mediocre at best. But she is better than a lot of girls out there today. At least she can carry a tune and plays an instrument.

That is so true we do come in all shades, so IMO the cover should of featured a few sistas all of different shades… I mean if a person did not know Alicia Keys and saw that cover they would be mighty confused, cause she looks white… All shades of black should be celebrated with a cover like that… Not just one yellow broad, this is coming from the mouth, and mind of a yellow broad!

In the mind and hearts of a lot of black people the “white” media always praises, identifies with, and gives more attention to the lighter skinned black woman… with that in mind and for a cover like that they should of tried to shatter that opinion by featuring a sister as black as Alex Welk (sp)with the title black women rule!!! Holla Back!!!

#6 I don’t know wtf u r regarding race? but ur one dumb bish. Where the hell u get that mixed folks have the best features? how u gonna have best features if ur black daddy have a big azz nose and u come out with the same nose? or if ur white mama have a big azz head and cockeyed and u get same traits. See how ignorant that dayum statement sounds? could be vice versa, daddy could be white or whatever with hook nose and beady eyes and mother asian with flathead and crooked teeth and kid looks like both of em,lmao, yet that’s good traits? hmmmmmmmm. I’m 100% black, Alicia’s complexion, naturally curly hair that I relax to make a little straighter, straight nose and nice eyes, I’m not mixed and I have good features. My father is very dark skinned and my mother dark brown, yet I came out light like lot of my mother family, we’re not mixed. Lot of my race is beautiful and not mixed, Beyonce, Kelly, Janet, Nia Long, Nelly, Morris Chestnut, Fantasia and I can go on and on, so why fugg would u make that statement? and Alica does look pretty and she’s down to earth.
75.
WTF
Wednesday, August 2, 2006 /
@ kat25, I’m aware of what you’re saying, but about A.Keys being on the cover, she’s black, especially to white America, so when they say “black girls rules” that’s because they see a black girl at the end of the day (and that’s what I see too). Alicia never tried to look extra european, she didn’t get no nose job or dye her hair blonde. That’s why I don’t see nothing wrong with that. I don’t see a light black chick with european features. I really honestly frankly don’t have a problem with this cover.
76.
caff
Wednesday, August 2, 2006 /
@62
Indeed, not a single black person in the U.S., in 2006, is completely pure. 99.9% of us have European blood running through our veins as we type. Is it a factor in our appearance? No not in all of us, it’s a minuscule amount of caucasian DNA, but it’s still there nonetheless.
Just for the record, I am slick, sarcastic and most importantly, I am always right. My logic is undeniable. I can’t be defeated. -=)

WTF, I can tell you for a fact that when white people see Alicia they see her as mixed, cause it is well known that she is mixed because ALicia never denies any part of who she is and I commend her for that, but at my mothers job I overheard an older white woman and a younger one talking about how pretty and talented she was because she is mixed! They were like yeah, that Alicia Keys is so pretty and talented, and you know her mom is white! Believe me honey white folks do think that she gets the greater part of her beauty, talent, and grace form her white side!!! Just as they do with Halle! It’s not their fault, I mean you are who you are and I respect both ladies, but as a black woman, and hell I’m lighter than Alicia, this picture is a poor represenatin of black women! Like I said they should of had a few women representing every shade of black ther is on that cover!!!

And I think Alicia looks white in that first picture! So we will have to agree to disagree on that one! Alicia looks white on a lot of covers, shit everytime I see her on a cover I have to look twice, except when she had braids! I think the cover would of made more sense with a chocalate sister on it, it would of made more of a statement! Alicia Keys is intelligent, beautiful, and multi-talented, one of the BEST R&B artists in the music industry and she just happens to be biracial (half-italian/half-jamaican). She is just one of may bi-racial artists in a neverending slew of mixed celebrities (Mya, Faith Evans, Halle Berry, Tiger Woods, Mariah Carey, Ashanti, Tyson Beckford, Kimora Lee Simmons, etc.)I really like the magazine cover, i don’t know why everyone on this board is reacting so harshly. Man I went to see India in concert about two weeks ago and I must say, she sounded INCREDIBLE, I always thought that Alicia could sing better but after that concert India definitely takes the cake… On the other hand India’s songs are downers to me, even though the contents are uplifting and there is a message her songs just made me wanna go to sleep! I mean she was BORING! Musiq SOulchild and the DJ had us so revved up and India started off good with “I am not my Hair” but it was down hill from there. As a matter of fact towards the middle of her show people started leaving, and I was one of them… I definitely respect her and ALicia both though…
India’s voice > Alicia’s Alicia’s songs > India’s IMO! But I feel you cause I just can’t get into India like that… Actually I don’t get into any Neo Soul music like that period and don’t give a damn who likes it or not! Ha Ha Ha

Everyone who’s saying black is black, are totally wrong. “Black” or “brown” doesn’t equal African American when it comes to other countries. So therefore, black is not black. -=)

What’s so funny is how are you going to give somebody the blues about who and what they are attracted to.
If that man likes light skinned and only mixed girls thats his preference, do you want him to like you, is that the case?
I prefer light skinned or puerto rican looking guys with great feature and greatr skin, however there are the darren sharpers that make me forget I have a type.

Caff, shut the hell up. I”ve been outside the U.S. and frankly I don’t give a shit how anyone else does it. In America, when one of your parents are black..or Colored as you probably say, your ass is black as well. AS a matter of fact, all of us are brown..I”ve met very few truly “black” skinned people. Your youth and inexperience shows no matter how much you want to hide it. Remember, when you have to tell people you are wise for your age, it usually isn’t that deep.

If you want to go deeper into the rabbit hole, the cover is actually saying that minorities rule, when it comes to entertainment. If Trace meant African American, they would’ve put it on the cover. “Black Girls Rule” means black/brown people of all countries. In conclusion, black is not the black you’re thinking.
Thank you Jesus for blessing me with uncanny knowledge.

I mean you have a good point but us “blacks” aren’t the only ones who talk negatively about our own…
I mean if you look at one of their blogs you’ll see that some people say some sick sadistic shit on them!
I myself don’t feel my opinion is negative, it is just my truth and how I really feel… I’m not going to sugarcoat it cause that’s not what these blogs are for, these blogs are for us to be able to express how we truly feel… No race is going to be unified and think the same way as a whole, and thank GOD for that cause this would be a boring world if we all just said what is PC. As blacks, scratch that adults we have to learn to agree to disagree, educate each other when we feel the need, but most importantly in doing either of these we must learn to do it in a civilized manner…

I mean i don’t understand people’s reaction…Bi-racials are not Black, neither White, they are Bi-Racials…White people have always considered them as Black people because of racism, Black people have always rejected them because of Jealousy..But can’t we just consider them as Human Beings?? I really dont give a f*ck about whether the singer im’ listening to is Black, White, Indian, Arabic, or Asiatic, as long as he gives me good music, good vibrations, good feelings..dont u guy agree with me? I’m a french west indian guy, and i’m Black, but i guess i’m Mixed cuz my grand father is white…who cares? im a human being before being a person of colour

PLease, that we are the world ish ain’t neva eva going to happen in America! In America there is black, white, light skinned, darkskinned and there is RACISM!!! Racism being the root of all that ails us Americans… It’s unfortunate! Oh if the rest of the world was like you it would be perfect, but it’s not and this is the reality! Plus Trace made color an issue by putting “Black Girls Rule” on their cover and then putting a white face on it… And yeah A. Keys feels black is black or whatever but her skin is whiter than a lot of white peoples so what does that say??? It’s all in the subliminal messages people… The media has always sent out subliminal messages to blacks that the lighter ones are better, this cover is a perfect example!

Oh for sure, and they have every darn right to think that way, but the media does play a hand in perpetuating that thought honey… For years you never ever saw an attractive darkskinned black woman on T.V. or magazines… In fact even in our very own Ebony all you saw through and through on damn near every page in the beginning were advertisements for skin bleaches… When you saw white women all you saw were images of beauty, I mean the whitey’s they put on TV looked perfect so of cousre the blacks that looked more like the whites were regarded as more beautiful than the ones who were darker… This is a fact sweetie! So those that feel that way have learned to feel that way more than they themselves may even realize it!
I have said this two or three times that I am probably lighter than Alicia, so yes I know it is a good look, See I’m not hating on the complexion, but it has been a long time coming for black women especially darker ones to really be seen for how beautiful they truly are!

Being a biracial is not synonymous of being light complexioned….I think it wouldn’t have bothered poeple to see on a cover writtel “Black Girls Rule” with a dark-skin bi-racial…Right?
Ak says she feels more black than bi racial cuz she’d grown in a district that forced her to feel this way, though she was raised by her white mum..I think we r not focusing on what it’s truly important…We all fall in a physical appearance-importance that leads us to racism without realizing it…

Naturally beautiful. I love Alicia Keys, she keeps it realer than real and I love her perspective on life. Keys says she constantly stays in prayer (like 50 X a day). That is inspiring.
I said in the other post, artists (like Beyonce) need to fall back for a min. Well I think Keys is an example of an artist falling back for a minute, enjoying life and falling into her own womanhood. Sort of like Aaliyah did. I miss Aaliyah, and need Keys to drop an albulm soon.

why some of ya’l going there with the black/white thing. Damn shame. How many blacks do you know that are full breed african. I don’t know many. Most of us brown folks in this WORLD have mixed race ancestry. Babygirl is black, one drop of African blood makes you black in my book and historically. Props to her white moms for keeping her close to her roots, cause Keys know who she is. Keys is lucky, her moms is strong as hell to have raised a black child in this racist country, never hiding her from her roots.

I think Ms. Keys looks cute in these pics…her abs are great. I’ve always been a fan of Alicia, but after I saw her at the ladies first tour (w/ Beyonce & Missy) i was extremely impressed. She’s a great performer, which is had to do when your sitting behind a piano. She really knows how to draw you in. Although her music isn’t earth shattering, it’s perfectly enjoyable and it has that warm and fuzzy old soul vibe. I must agree w/ someone here who said her voice isn’t all that great. Your right it isn’t. She can sing, but she does have a limited range and strains a lot, but just like Lauren Hill (on of my other favorite artist) who doesn’t have a perfect voice either, Alicia works with what she has and make music that’s very heart felt. She’s also a smart girl, like Ms. Hill (although laruens a lil off!) and she’s got a lot of personality. What i like about her most however is that she stays out of all the drama.
As for the mixed girl stuff? Alicia has always identified herself as a black woman & if she refused to refer to herself as black she would’ve have gotten flack that too. your damned if you do, damned if you don’t. Ask for the media always promoting light skinned and mixed black woman - I can understand where you’ll are coming from with that, but alicia can’t change the way she looks or who her parents are and she’s never played that whole “i’m light and pretty look at me” so I’m happy to see her be succesful. At the end of the day, I don’t know a single black american who’s pure anything, myself included. Race is not a perfect science…we come in a lot of shades.

Yeah tdotlady, I read that too. I saw a picture of the woman she will be playing and she’s actually quite brown. Since brads the producer I guess their just going to completely overlook the fact that Anjelina bares no resemblence to her. I wonder if they felt having an interacial couple in the movie was to complicated? who knows?

@ 201…well said.
I constantly get asked “what are you mixed with” when both of my parents, and my grandparents are black. We just light complexion. ( I know I got native american and white running down both sides of my family but no family I ever met.) I can look at my family and see all shades of black and there ain’t one person in my family that in unattractive. But me and some of my cousins look like night and day in terms of complexion. People way too obsessed with that mixed race crap.
We all come in different shades, but we all got that African blood, which makes us who we are - BLACK!

Do any of you remember when Mariah Carey was on the cover of Essence and the cover said,”Mariah Carey: America’s Most Misunderstood Black Woman”, Blacks were pissed at her being on the cover but it gave Essence lots of publicity! I am also one of those who constantly get asked what are you? it also irritates the hell out of me when you read magazines and they HAVE to bring up a persons genetic makeup, not their talent which helped put them on the map but how much white they have in them or any other race other than black like its taboo for a person just to recognize one race, especially if black..they just HAVE to be something else. It doesnt take a rocket scientist to figure out that my own genetic makeup consists of more than one “race” so to speak..but as a child with a mother who followed the early teachings of Malcolm X and a grandmother who was a Garveyite(and if you don’t know who Marcus Garvey is especially as a black person my heart bleeds for you)being black(not african american)is all I have ever known, relate to and accept..however society and closeminded people of color would say differently and that is what makes this discussion so sad. Quite simply you don’t pick your lineage, you do however have the choice to accept all, half or none of it. Alicia has chosen to identify herself w/ what she is comfortable with..being a black woman despite the lack of melanin in her skin. Read and understand this well..the color of your skin doesn’t make you any blacker than the next person..it’s the heart and soul of who you are and what you accept as being “black”..Kathleen Cleaver is one of the “blackest” light bright sistas you can ever meet, Sanaa Hamri very political/video director..light as well, Colin Powell, hell half of the civil rights movement had assistance by lightskinned blacks, those that you could tell that the color of their eyes and the waviness in their hair attested to a large multicultural background. However they always considered themselves black and so did the police. Open your eyes and understand we are a collection of beauty that rains in a multitude of colors..cuz those of you hating on us lightskinned; bi-racial brothers and sisters..be advised that once again being dark isn’t always sweeter. I know of a few dark skinned so called brothers and sisters who are so removed, that I swear they wake up every morning finding ways to rub off that”tan”….I’ll leave you w/ my favorite line in school daze…”wake Up” ..If you don’t understand then rent the movie

@ 215…thanks girl! I mean every word.
@ 232….deep post, I feel ya, KEEP IT REAL! my dad is light skinned with green eyes but he’s one of the most pro black people I know. He’s always standing up against RACISM b/c of how he grew up in the South and pride for his ancestry. There are a lot of people darker then him where I live that would sale all of us black people out. That seems so ironic to me. Until I woke up and realized that complexion cannot define your blackness, like you said, it is where your heart is, blackness comes from the soul. I feel really bad for people who deny their African lineage though, because it’s a strong part of you. Not just the beautiful features you adopt but our history. So yes fist in the air to all my black kings and queens, like Alicia. I like how she puts on her purple gloves. Purple is the color of royalty. The picture shows attitude, like Alicia is saying “World, I’m ready so watch out”

sittin up not being able to sleep, i just wanted to comment on something that posted on this page. Ne’ and NY have been arguing over whether puerto rican has a look and i wanted to say that i understand that Ne’ is attracted to guys that have a
“puerto rican” look… but puerto ricans come in many differnt shades just as black people do…. if u ever been to puerto rico u would see many different cities and towns with puerto ricans that look like u and me, are born and raised there, and their ancestors were born and raised there. there are places in puerto rico that look like u r standing in the middle of harlem NY, the only diffence is they speak spanish… there is a misconception that all puerto ricans look like ricky martin, j lo, and marc anthony…. just like everyone thinks that everyone in the continent of africa has dark chocolate skin but many of the people there are all arrays of shades… just look at charlize theron (she is from south africa). NY just was trying to inform u that puerto ricans do not have a “specific” look… it would have been more apropriate if u would have said u prefer lighter skinned guys with an OLIVE complextion…not tryin to b a a$$ hole just wanted to be informative.
dont cuss me out… just adding my 2 cents.

I brought up my complexion because my post may have led some to believe that I only had a problem with Alicia on the cover b/c she is lightskinned and I am darskinned when I am not… Like I said I could care less if she was bi-racial either, I was just saying that the magazine would of made more of statement TO ME if they had a dark woman on the cover, with the big lips, a big nose, and a big ole ass, all the features we were taught to think of as ugly with the title “BLACK GIRLS RULE” or had a few sistas on the cover of different shades… TO ME, again, TO ME Alicia on the cover ALONE takes away form the boldness of that statement cause TO ME on that cover she looks even lighter than usual!!! This is my opinion and I’m sticking to it!

A letter of thanks to ALL the Ladies (and crazy CAFF) for this History Lesson!
Thank you daredd1.Dag, Girl, You are ALWAYS on Point…
You taught me a LOT today…I will now refer to myself as BLACK, as opposed to African American. Thanks for your impartation of wisdom.
Thank-You Zora for the Lesson about the island of Puerto Rico. I’ve never been,
But based on your description I now WANT TO VISIT.
Thank you for YOUR dissertation. That was wonderful
I really appreciate the discussion, dialogue and even the arguments between my Girl
NE’ & NYC, because it has taught me quite a few things….
I don’t EVER want to offend anyone so it’s important to know what an
Puerto Rican is, e.g. race vs. nationality..
* Someone pointed out that Paul Mooney said that a Puerto Rican is nothing but a Nigga on a Boat who can swim…
Man Paul Mooney is one of the funniest Negro out !!
Puerto Rican’s (and a lot of the Spanish Race, especially Dominicans) can SOMETIMES pass for Black people, in fact, some Puerto Rican are JUST AS dark as Black People.
I believe the reason is because they ARE black people…The slave ships dropped off a lot of slaves at different island/locations !
Now, I know A LOT of Puerto Rican will FIGHT you because of that statement, and that’s cool !!
It’s whatever RACE YOU IDENTIFY WITH (as Ms. Daredd1 taught ME today)
that determines what YOU are !!
If you want to be white so be it
If you want to be Black so be it..
If you want to be Mulatto (Thanks Caff, because it IS in the dictionary) then that’s cool too !
If Ms. Alicia Keys considers herself Black, then she is !!…
I don’t care what color her mother is, or the percentage of Black Blood in her system.
Someone state that we need to get past race.
Well…..
That’s debatable: I think it’s important to have a sense & history of who you are, and where you came from.
One of the wonderful things about the Jewish, Italian, & Irish race is they NEVER forget their heritage.
That also hold true for many of the Asian Descent. They never forget their history !!!
Anyways, thank you EVERYONE for giving me this history lesson this morning.
I read each and every comment on this thread, and I feel better & more informed from doing so.
Peace

I M NOT HATING OR ANYTHING BECAUSE I DO LOVE ALICIA’S TALENT BUT SHE REALLY ISN’T REPRESENTATIVE OF A BLACK WOMAN

@268 - Ne’ I understand what you’re saying about a “look”. Jamaicans definitly have it and if you are a “traditional” Jamaican you can spot another one a mile away. For example, most traditional, born and raised Jamaicans, light, dark or whateva have a swagger and you can spot it if you know what your looking for. You don’t see it so much with the new generation of Jamaicans (those who have Jamaican parents but were raised in the US and not on the island). The same goes for Africans. Just ask anybody from the islands or the mother country and they know what I’m talking about. Now with the Puerto Ricans they have a “look” too. You can even distinguish them from Dominicans right off the bat. Maybe its a NY thing. It could be. Anyway, I got what you were saying.
Now before anybody tries to negatively jump on my ass about what I just said, let me say this in advance…Fuck you too.

Thank you very much STEPH
It may very well be a NY thing. With NY being so diverse and being around SO MANY different nationalities you can distinguish who is who, you’re able to say… he’e haitian, not jamaican, or he’s italian , not cuban.

Okay, thank you Amber Nicole. I did further investigating because I really would like to know if mulatto means half-man half-beast. I guess it depends on who you ask. And the origins of the word are even debatable. In many societies considered derogatory in others not. I’m mixed, I don’t mind it. I use the N word and the B word. Words don’t bother that way and I find a sense of power in defining myself and saying fuck you to society. From what I found mulatto basicly means any kind of hybrid/mix of anything, race, car, etc.

Yeah I have long hair too, but sometimes you just like to switch it up…Every now and then I throw in a lil weavy weave just for a change!!! Usually some with some type of highlight… People are always like “why you got that weave in your hair when your hair is already long” I just do it to for change and to give my hair a break, plus I have no perm so my hair gets puffy and the weave doesn’t…. Damn I’m rambling…
I feel you with Bey, but homegirl has a contract with l’Oreal that says she cannot change anything about her look without their permission first! So she got to keep the blonde, the weave, and that overall look until her contract is up…

give me a break. What do you call having a white mom and black dad. last time I checked that was 50%. and last time I checked 1 drop of African blood makes you black, that is how genetics work. And like Alicia being light makes her exempt from racism. Please. She go through it just like you, if you black. That comment is ignorant. I don’t even know why I am wasting my time.

I think light skinned girls a very beautiful. And yes there are some brown skinned women in hollywood that are pretty too. But people this is hollywood. I am light skinned and in hollywood when your white and have ligher skin you get head much faster. I guess the same can be true in non-hollywood. Its been that way for century’s and I really don’t think it will ever change in our society. Its all about looks and in the hollywood business and music business they can sell you more if your lighter skin because you look more exotic and more appealling to the masses. Research at NYC University 2 years ago showed that black men are more appealed to ligher women and somewhere around 80 some percent of black men were embrassed to admit it.

One drop of black blood does not make you black. If you do some reading or research you whould know that one-drop rule was used back in slavery days. If you had any type of black blood in you, the person would be considered unpure or tainted. Meaning you were dirty and so was your blood. But that does not mean the person is fully black.

No, I resent that. I’m not looking for attention. I just want you guys to hear yourselves. A debate about the skin complexion of a person is SILLY! But, it’s so sad at how much you guy’s have been brained washed to think the closer you are to white the more attractive you are. (Read your OWN comments by your OWN people “mixed people have the best features” or ANY post on B and her ever evolving skin complexion) In 2006 black people still suffer from that old slavery mentality. That’s what my people did to keep control of your people. I’m not trying to be rude. I’m just trying to let you look at it from another races point of view. WAKE UP!!! Breanna…..Black men who “only” like light skinned girls are victims of institutionalized racism. Don’t trip either because I”m light like Jasmine Guy and even I say black men who only like bright girls are crazy. Oh, and you need to get Lola and myself a copy of this research from NY. Also, you need to check your facts….One drop does make you black and its only people who have a problem with being black who take issue with this instead of seeing it as a unifying thing as I do. Once you add the black element, you can no longer be truly white because the same things don’t affect you as they would a white person. Therefore all this talk about “belonging to both worlds” doesn’t really exist. It’s crazy talk. When a white person follows you around a store because they think you or the people you’re with are going to steal, are you a part of the white world?? In Whitney’s words…HELL TO THE NO! Your ass is black.

LaLa, the crazy thing is, white folks have blacks so stressed out about color and our features, but whites are steady in the tanning bed and plastic surgeons office trying to buy lips and asses. That SHOULD be telling blacks something about how valuable and beautiful we are.

Peace

Paul Mooney is The real deal..

Paul Mooney was Richard Pryor’s BEST Friend, and his Number 1 Writer.
Paul Mooney ALSO had a sucessfull Radio Career @ one time..Less than 2 years ago he hosted a morning show her in NYC (I can’t remember if it was KISS or WBLS)
Here’s a review of Paul Mooney LAST DVD
Analyzing White America….Enjoy Ms. Amber Nicole !!

Editorial Reviews
About the Actor
Though Paul Mooney reached a new level of public familiarity in 2004 with his appearances on Comedy Central’s “Chappelle’s Show,” the comedian has made millions laugh for over 30 years. As a television writer for the classics “Sanford & Son” and “Good Times,” sketch comedy shows “Saturday Night Live” and “In Living Color,” and a long-time Richard Pryor collaborator, Mooney has lived in the public ear, if not in the public eye, for a very long time. As head writer on “In Living Color,” it was Mooney who created “Homey the Clown” “Dial a Nigger” and “The Brothers Brothers,” never one to shy away from controversial racial themes.
Product Description
Paul Mooney is angry, fearless and very funny. Here he takes direct aim at racism and White America and hits his targets with dead-on accuracy — and humor. Whether pondering chubby white women’s attraction to skinny brothers, or examining the “N” word, Paul Mooney is unafraid of the truth — or the humor that is at the heart of controversy.
Mooney’s stand-up is legendary. Grammy®-nominated for his comedy album Race, he has spent years writing for other comedians as well. He started out as a writer for Richard Pryor, Redd Foxx and Eddy Murphy and was the head writer for In Living Color, where he created “Homie, The Clown.” Recently he’d been a regular on the critically acclaimed Chappelle Show, most notably as the character “Negrodamus”

If any of you missed out on Mooney’s ‘Race’ (1993) & ‘Masterpiece’ (1994) CDs,
this new DVD will give you a taste of what we knew all along. Mooney is
brutally honest with his unique approach, and it’s refreshing to see
him put a different twist on a few of his classic jokes.
The interludes with the white guy are pretty funny, and
Tim Reid’s interview of Paul is an eye opener for
new fans. All in all, this DVD is the BEST BARGAIN of 2006,
so if you enjoyed Mooney most recently on Chappelle Show,
cop this DVD for the low low. Also, if you happen to know
anybody with the ‘Race’ or ‘Masterpiece’ CDs, beg for a
copy…they are CLASSIC!

Paul Mooney - With all Comedy Go To Source., February 28, 2006
Reviewer: Brandon S. Taylor - See all my reviews
Paul Mooney’s Analyzing White America is the first readily accessible medium of Mooney’s brilliance since the early 90’s. With his previous albums R.A.C.E. and Master Piece no longer in production, this is the only place where you can see Mooney’s brilliance.
Mooney’s not for everyone. His material is sharp, and if you like Bill Hicks, Doug Stanhope, Dave Chappelle, or Chris Rock and are willing (if white) to hear thoughts far away from the mainstream media, then this is the best pickup possible for $10.
Watch it by yourself first, and then look at your social net and see who is capable of handling. For those, this DVD will probably be the best standup they have ever seen or heard.
Fans of Chappelle, Rock, Pryor : Go Back To Source. This is the man who has greatly influenced them all.

Wow…it’s funny how one simple picture could start such an elaborate debate. This is the first time that I’ve read every single comment, and might I add that they’re very interesting. I don’t think the debate was silly at all but was actually was much needed. Hey everybody i’m glad my post was thought provoking it did what it needed to do..it’s too many of you to thank on here, but I appreciate you all. I usually don’t speak when it comes to a “color” debate but the ignorance on this post ran a new high. People MY people..I am SOOO tired of fighting..we are a nation of forgotten kings and queens..in lack of a better phrase..we RUN this shit!..from the cotton gin..and no it wasNOT Eli Whitney who thought it up..to the latest dance craze..Without US there would be no THEM..yet we fight over trivial matters of skin color and worse..We are a laughingstock STOP buying into the madness of genocide..we have those in a very short past who died just so we could be equal..went to prison, raped, hung, castrated, assasinated just so we could have choices…as Huey Freeman would say..let’s put a stop to the NIGGA moments..shut society’s views of us down..we are the ONLY race that spends more time looking for ways to tear each other down and divide then to build each other up..and what’s so sad is that there are those of you who are so use to negativity thats it’s as normal as taking a breath..you don’t think about it you just do it…whether you like this or not we are in this TOGETHER..STOP IT!
