IDLEWILD OPENS AT #9

I meant to check it out this weekend, but I never got around to seeing it. Did you see it and if you did, how was it?
MORE FOXY BROWN MADNESS!
Earlier today I posted that Foxy Brown missed her scheduled court date, but I guess that story was wrong, because TMZ is reporting otherwise.
Word is she arrived late and pleaded guilty to misdemeanor assault charges stemming from a fight with salon workers over a manicure. The plea deal, which spares her jail time, requires her to serve three years probation and take anger management classes, said Edison Alban, a spokesman for the Manhattan district attorney’s office.
But get this, minutes after the plea, Foxy’s crazy ass, tried to return to the courtroom and withdraw it, claiming she had been rushed into the decision. But the judge told her that the plea stands.
She is so through! I know yall heard that rumor about her attacking some chick on the street too. I swear..
ANOTHER BLIND ITEM
What do you do when a volatile sports star attempts to check into your hotel and their credit card is declined? Well, if you work the front desk of the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, you pray that someone else in their entourage quickly puts up a credit card before the athlete decides to take out their frustration on you. That’s what happened to said athlete when he attempted to check-in the MGM while in Las Vegas for the Oleg Maskaev vs. Hasim Rahman boxing match. Luckily once the card was declined-meaning the sports figure didn’t even have the $150 the hotel wanted to hold for incidentals-someone in his camp offered up a card and it went through. [via BLACKVOICES]
Here are the possible choices: Ron Artest, Michael Vick, Mike Tyson, Ricky Williams, or Lonny Baxter
It’s most likely Mick Tyson’s crazy ass!

Didn’t see Idlewild but I heard it was pretty good. I’ll definitely check it out this weekend.
Foxy is washed up and she knows it. That’s why she is creating so much drama. (No publicity is bad publicity) She is going to do something every few days to keep her name circulating.
Mike Tyson came to mind before I finished reading the blind item.

I saw Idlewild last night. Parts weren’t well paced-or maybe I have A.D.D. But the way the film was shot and edited was really beautiful to me. I loved the 3d elements and how certain “unreal” things came to life (not to give it away) to tell the story. Some of the songs were alittle off. But too me the cinematography was the bomb-in a really subtle way. I kind of expected more breaking out into song like a musical but that part of it was really controlled.
And the two boys that played Dre and Big Boi looked JUST LIKE THEM (esp. Big Boi-like he spit him out). They casted this movie really well.
Overall I love the “idea” of the movie. I kind of think that more black period films should be told even outside of the whole gangsta genre.

@10. Yeah I saw that ad awhile back, but I haven’t see it recently.
Anyway, Deep Cotton is a funk band or something, if I remember correctly.
This is their site: http://www.deepcottononline.com/
Still don’t know what they mean by the ad though.
Anyway, I’m definitely going to check out Idlewild this week or weekend.

CL we need to pray for Foxxy…there’s power in prayer and she needs all the prayers she can get
She’s obviously having a hard time handling the fact that she’s deaf and seems to me like she’s acting out.
I’m surprised Idlewild didn’t do better than that
About that BLIND ITEM…i think it’s RON ARTEST, cuz we know Tyson can’t even get a credit card right now, as much debt as he’s in

that movie idlewild, i probably wont go to the theater to see it, but at first i didnt think it’d be good. But i notice that there are a lot of good actors in the movie and lots of people supporting the movie, i’m glad it did ok and wasnt something that bad.

On the radio in Chicago they were saying that some theaters were giving people tickets for other movies instead of tickets for Idlewild. When customers pointed the mistake out they were told it didn’t matter, they could go see Idlewild anyway.
Doing that takes credit away from the movie. There is no telling how many theaters did it. Idelwild could have opened at #1.
If/when you go see the movie, CHECK YOUR TICKETS PEOPLE!!!

I loved Idlewild. It was a bit random at times and all I could do was laugh, but it was definitely entertaining. The clothing was beautiful, Outkast’s acting wasn’t horrible, gotta love the performances, Terrence Howard is a wonderful villain…yada yada yada. Support the black men. It’s not just another ghetto ass black film to further make other races think we are all ignorant as hell. It’s actually decent and that is definitely worth supporting.

Idlewild was crap. Wait to see it on DVD the story line was garbage and easily predicted the acting was boring and strained the music was not realistic rap in the 1920’s riiight. The only thing fly about this movie was Terrance Howard and the only music worth listening to in this movie was from Andre 3000 last album love below.
Just when u think you are going to here some good music you get let down.
And you will also leave the theater wondering did Andre 3000 loose his marbles.
I rate this movie on the scale from 1-10 about a 2 1/2

Why is anybody payin Foxy any damn mind…dats exactly wut she wants. U think she thought she was gon steal n not have her face in da papers n sites such as this one…FUCK OUTTA HERE.
But as 4 Idlewild…it was okay. Nothin 2 rejoice about. Da special effects were okay n da singin n dancin was mediocre. The best performance was the ending routine. Da film seemed a lil rushed…kinda like da Fantasia movie. It put me in da mind of a modern day Color Purple. Especially scenes wit da club. I agree da casting was good. Except 4 da lil boy wit da fake ass mole lol. The acting wasnt impressive but u could tell da script was well thought out…the presentation didnt reflect dat too much. You could see where it was headed n how it missed just barely. It coulda been better but hey it coulda been worse. Maybe I need to c it again bcuz dats all it takes to reall “get” a movie sometimes. Not dat it was hard to understand. The simplicity of the complexities erked da hell outta me. You have to c it to undertsnad wut I mean. But basically alotta things were unexplained which is wut Im trynna say. But who knows it might shock da hell outta us n become a classic. But one positive was dat TERRANCE HOWARD PLAYED DA SHIT OUTTA DAT CHARACTER. I must admit my boo is real good at being bad lol

People are really sleeping on the movie Idlewild. I went to go see the movie opening night, and I really loved Outkast acting skills (I am really impressed by Big Boi’s mostly, didn’t think he had that type of ability) The whole dancing scenes were something else (I mean that in a good way), the singing and music aspect of the film was wonderful, and the acting was superb. Terrance Howard played the hell out of his character in the movie. My favorite part of the Idlewild would have to be when Andre 3000 and his loved interested where kissing in pouring rain, it was like something straight out of a love flick, but the director captures that shot so well. This movie is truly different from any movie out there on the market right now. I can’t wait till it’s out on DVD I’m go cop that.

ATTENTION!ATTENTION!IDLEWILD HAS BEEN ROBBED OF RATINGS!Today while listening to the radio(WGCI),Alot of people around the country were calling in reporting that the movie theaters were giving them the wrong ticket.People would request an idlewild ticket and get a ticket for the movie invisible. The theater would then tell the people that they were sorry and that at the end of the show they would refund there ticket.i dont know about you but i think they were taking their ratings on purpose.it wasnt an accident like the thaters claimed it to be.even if they did refund the tickets by that time the money and credit will have already been given to the other movie which explains the ratings.

I saw Idlewild & LOVED it. The thing with the rating is this. . .
It got the most money per theater. This means that no other movie made as much money in each theater that it played in than Idlewild. The reason that it wasnt #1 & Invincible was is that Idlewild was only in about 1/3 of the theaters as Invincible. I’m sure that in some they did give out the wrong ticket, but the reason it was at #9 isnt because of that. Plain and simple, only about a third of the theaters picked up the movie & thats why it didnt get the ratings.

Ok people, Idlewild wasn’t show in as many theaters as Invincible was so it stands to reason why it isn’t #1, but it did have a pretty good showing seeing as it wasn’t shown in as many theaters. I do believe it was advertised enough as it made more per theater than any other move that came out last Friday. As far as people getting the wrong ticket, it’s stupid for you to even take a ticket that ain’t to the movie you want to see…so why take it????

I really enjoyed Idlewild! The cinematography was great, the dance sequences were well done, the music was fabulous! The plot wasn’t completely original (as prohibition-era movies and themes have been done before) but the story line was good and so were the characters. I laughed A LOT and there were some tender moments as well. Similar to Moulin Rouge, it was a period movie with contemporary music. It was unique. I say to Outkast, job well done and I hope more people will go support.

Black People
Could it be the reason why Idlewilds has lackluster ratings is because Black people tend to buy BOOTLEG copies of movies AS SOON AS THEY ARE IN THE THEATRE !!!!
We as a people have to support Black Business !
The only way for us to be totally Free is through ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT
Also….I tend to belive the issue about we as a people getting the wrong ticket (e.g the movie people will give you a ticket for Invinsible, instead of Idlewild).
It has happend to ME on Three Differant occasions.
Caucasians think we are just that stupid not to notice..

Actually Idlewild was the number 1# film of the weekend. How you might say? Idlewild only opened up at 900 plus theatres…while other major releases had 3 to four times the amount of theatres, thus giving them more sites, allowing them to attract a wider film audience overall…However, Idlewild garnered the highest per screen average…earning almost twice the amount of money at its screenings than the so called number 1 film…Invincible. This is just another example of how racists refuse to allow us as black people to compete as equals with them in the marketplace, on a even ground!!! The competition is often given a handicap when it comes to film releases in terms of numbers of theatres that are allotted to black films vs. white films!!! Idlewild is America’s true number 1# film…not number 9#, as has been reported!!!

I think its so very dumb to NOT go see a movie because its not playin on your side of the block, unless you live in a one horse town where the nearest theatre is one that you have to take a commuter plane too, that is NOT an excuse to NOT see a decent Black Film.
I cant believe some of these people have the nerve to have children. What are you teaching them about support of Black Art, Cinema, Business, etc.

I saw Idlewild this weekend. I am a true Outkast fiend, I mean fan.
The movie was almost like a long video. Y’all know like Michael Jackson and Paul McCartney’s “Say, Say, Say” video (one of my all time favorites), but longer.
I like Dre’, that man is made right.
The personalities almost seemed true to life for each character.
Never liked Terrance Howard, he is a villan for life.
Overall the movie was ummmm, it was aiight.
But I didn’t understand why so much music from the “Speakerboxx/Love Below” album was on there.
I really wanted to hear “Mighty O” incorporated in there somewhere along the way.

BUT THE MOVIE IS THE BOMB! 58, 59 & 60 have hit the nail on the head so I don’t need to say anything other than that I really loved this movie. It’s not the typical hood, drugs, young mother black movie we’ve been getting lately. Although I know that’s real life that’s just it, we live it everyday we don’t need to pay to see people that we know don’t live that lifestyle show us our everyday struggle.
I’m glad people are saying they are going to go see the movie, but opening weekend is what really counts people - numbers wise. I don’t need to give the don’t go to the bootleg man speech. According to some of the comments it seems we came out this weekend, we can’t control that the movie was only showed at limited theatres like that.

Bill Said:
I think it’s important as a COMMUNITY that we SUPPORT Black Film.
The First Week of Box Office Tickets is VERY important to a Black Production Company.
This tells The MOVIE Studio’s if this was a good investment….
If we want the movie studio’s (e.g. CAUCASIANS) to CONTINUE to put out our PRODUCT, we have to show them that we are a worthwhile market to invest in.
White Studio Heads scratch there heads when they try to figure out the Spending Power of the Black Demographic.
We’ll buy Malt Liquor, Cigarettes & Bootleg CD/DVD’s but we won’t SUPPORT our own BROTHER at the Movie Theater???
That’s just not right…
Go see Idewild this weekend…
Peace

OKAY 58-60 AND 68 REALLY THINK ABOUT IT IDLEWILD IS NOT THE STANDARD HOOD MOVIE BUT WHEN IT COMES TO A MOVIE ABOUT BLACKS IN THE 1920S OR 40S THERES ALWAYS SOME GUN PLAY INVOLVED AND SOME GANGSTER THING EX HARLEM NIGHTS, HOODLUM, THE COTTON CLUB. IT A PLOT LINE THAT IS SO OVER USED

Fox was very stylish at the court appearance from what i heard. She had on the usual Gucci shades, a Chanel 2.5 Reissue bag, True Religion jeans, Gucci dress blouse, and some ballet flats. Very usual.
For someone to be so fresh, and beautiful…She has a BIG problem. LOL@ anyone who thinks Black Roses will drop in December.
Jay and Def Jam will prolly drop this FOOL sometimes this year. LOL

I saw Idlewild and thought it was okay. Some parts I liked, some parts I didn’t. My biggest complaint was that it seemed like the storyline was all over the place. But the overall look of the movie was very stylish.
And most of the music was from “Speakerboxx/The Love Below” because this movie was actually supposed to come out 2 years ago, but the studio shelved it. The studio heads didn’t “know what to do with it”. Take that however you will.
And as far as “Idlewild” opening up #9 - do you notice how many posters are saying that they “meant to see it” or “plan on seeing it”? Nowadays the biggest indicator that people go by is the opening weekend. You want more substantial black fare - then start seeing movies like this and not “Soul Plane”. We have to show people what we want to see by supporting!

#78, I agree. Comedies tend to capture the interests of Blacks nowadays. With lives of stress due to financial woes, kids, lovers, jobs, abuse and so on, there’s nothing wrong with escaping our turbulent personal situations and going to see a movie that makes us laugh and gives us joy. But life is not a comedy. Personally, I always wait until comedies are available on DVD before I take a trip to the theater. OutKast came with something different besides the ol’ hood story or the routinely seen black comedy. I think we all should support them. Open your minds black people. Do not live in a box.

Foxy can do no wrong in my eyes.
I’ve loved her since the Ill Nana days.
As for Idlewild….that movie really surprised me. I didn’t want to see it at first because the previews looked corny, but after reading a newspaper article about it while I was on the train, I decided to see it that night. Turns out it was a good movie- glad I went. Thing I loved the most about it is the fact that it’s very visually stimulating.
