PROJECT RUNWAY: MICHAEL KNIGHT
Monday, August 7, 2006
The 28-year-old Atlanta based designer is rarely shown on any episodes, and isn’t getting enough props for his fierce design skills.
Take for example, the first challenge. The contestants had to rip apart their apartment and look for items to create an outfit with. Michael took a bunch of coffee filters and made this.. I’m sorry, but when you make coffee filters look dope, you deserve some recognition.
I personally believe he isn’t getting any camera time because he isn’t acting like the typical reality TV minority. They always cast loud, stereotypical black people on these shows and when you don’t fit into that category, you will not get any air time. Because drama equals ratings..
Anyway, if you watch the show, you know Michael is the truth. Hopefully he makes it to the final three.
Watch Project Runway, Wednesdays @ 10pm on Bravo..

He’s not getting airtime because he is a sleeper like Daniel Vosovic. He will fly under the radar and do consistent work then come to the forefront when all the bitchy catty people are gone.
They need to devote time to the crazies 1st, that’s how you get ratings, but when the cast get’s pared down, expect Michael to start shining.
That dress he made for the dog challenge was the best I have seen him do so far.

I like Mike he’s really good. I agree with you, he should’ve gotten way more recognition for his coffee filter dress. I hate to say this, but before they revealed which person got kicked off for violating rules, I was praying to God it wasn’t Mike. Alot of blogs were saying “you know its probably the black guy.” I think he has a really good shot at winning. Especially since a black person has yet to win.

Reality tv does like to demonize black people particularly when we give fuel to the fire (Omorosa), but there’s no fuel here. When they were profiling everybody on the first challenge I thought he was going to be the flaming, extravagent sp homosexual–but he’s quite reserved.
The camera does not love subdued black folks. Its really sad cause that coffee filter dress was soo very genius. He didn’t even use the more conventional textiles.

Project Runway is actually a sneaky show in the fact that it hooks u in and makes u addicted.
I am not into reality competitions like this normally, but Project Runway is well done. I like Heidi and Tim Gunn.
The 1st season had the awesome talents of Kara Saun, a black girl who proved everyone wrong with her great designs. She should have won, but wound up winning anyway after the fact. She made it to the final 2, lost, but still designed clothes for top people and did Heidi’s maternity wardrobe for season 2.
Season 2 had great people as well.
This show is far from racist. It just has to show the crazies before they get down to it. Look at last years final 2. Chloe Dao and Daniel V. Two non controversial under the radar performers who came out of nowhere to rock it.
Michael should make it to the top 3, he just can’t go overboard or so something really stupid. And Angela won, but who was on her team to keep her in line? Michael.

OMG!!! I cannot believe that is Michael Knight. I’ve worked with him in numerous of fashion shows in Atlanta and he is one of the best designers I’ve worked with. His clothes are always exclusive and original. Imma have to start watching Project Runway now, he is really doing hnis thing, thing.
@4 and 17, sweetie he is not gay he likes women.

They never showed Bonnie really and she’s not black. Uli won a challenge but they don’t show her constructing dresses, just the end result. Michael doesn’t dominate the airtime, but he’s been on. He seems to have gravitated toward Laura and they are buddies.
This season has the wacko Jeff, the recently ousted Keith, ridiculously crazy Vincent, and the annoying Angela. All white and crazy. The sane designers are quiet now.
I think the final 4 in my opinion will be Michael, Allison, Kayne and either Uli or Robert.

I watch the show religiously and i’m gonna have to disagree with the article. On the first season, Kara Saun, who is also black, got most of the shine because her designs were amazing. Personally, I think Michael is talented, but I don’t think he was the best there in the first few episodes. maybe now that a few people have gone home, he’ll have his time to shine.

I suspect that “reality” television is not very much “reality” to begin with and as far as ratings on a design show go, a great designer with no personality doesn’t go very far with viewers!
I don’t think that that’s a “black” thing, I think drama brings ratings, and honestly, the people at “Project Runway” couldn’t care less about the black , white or CLOTHES for that matter; at the end of the day, most of you wouldn’t watch if they were simply showing beautiful, well put together ensembles.
Has anybody ever seen MTV? Most of the drama that goes on with all of their Real World, etc shows feature wild, party lovin, alcohol drinking white kids. The Apprentice is no difference, Amarosa stood out because she was TRULY a bitch and didn’t care that people knew it; so you can’t get mad at the people for showcasing what you give em at the end of the day.
If dude doesn’t have a “personality” he’s not going to get screen time, no matter how great he is; this is the entertainment business… if you ain’t sellin sex, you gotta give em something else if you want to stand out. And truth be told, he looks to be quite content with what’s going on with him; he’s subdued and laid back (and the people don’t want to see that)

Hell naw he don’t get enough coverage. They barely show the brotha face, and this is after they had his ass all up in the commercials like he was going to be one of the main contestants. Bogus. But I ain’t surprised.

The reason he isnt getting any SCREENTIME is becuz unlike the average reality TV personality, be it white or black. He isnt acting a fool, pulling wack shananigans, showing his natural ass on tv. The main is relying on his skills alone to get people talking about him and his work. Every garment he has designed thus far, and has worked on has came out flawless. Just last week the outfit he worked on won. The dude is a powerhouse. And reppin the SOUTH.
Of course the question of his sexuality was going to creep in. Becuz how can he be black and design clothes and not be? I mean come on. Gay or not, he hasnt stated so. So leave the man alone. He designs amazing clothes.
***Been a Project Runway Fan since the jump off***

But I don’t think they give him airtime cause for one..homie chick that won last season fought for him to be on the show..Heidi and them didn’t care for him aannd because he’s quiet. @ #42… and you wonder WHY dudes like him choose to disassociate themselves from faggs! (Don’t get me wrong, there is a distinct difference in a gay man - and a faggot!) Gay men are simply attracted to men, FAGGOTS are the ones who feel the need to tell everybody else about somebody elses sexuality.
PLEASE enlighten the masses on your justification behind revealing who “he” was attracted to back when you “knew” him? And then you wonder why so many dudes are on the DL - it’s faggot shit like that if you ask me.

I love Michael AND Project Runway. He actually went to Georgia Southern University, where my older sister is going this upcoming semester. I think he majored in fashion design too.
Yeah my mom and I are always talking about him not getting any airtime every time we watch the show. Its really sad. He’s a great designer, if not the best one on the show. Every task he’s been given he’s given 100% and did an exceptional job. But still they don’t even bother to give him more than a minute (if even that long) of airtime. Of course, I wanna play the race card but I’m not sure yet. I wouldn’t be suprised if he made it to the final 3, if not winning it all. Let’s hope!
And just because he’s a designer doesn’t mean he’s gay. Damn. Don’t be that ignorrant to believe every male in the fashion industry is gay, esp. if you don’t know that individual personally.

I think he hasn’t received much airtime because he will be one of the last contestants… Generally with project runway they give lots of airtime to those who aren’t going to make the cut later.
If you read Tim Gunn’s blog on project runway’s site, he also feels that one of Michael’s design should have won.
I feel this is the best season so far… I mean except for Bradley.

Go Michael, its your birfday brotha get ya Kodak on! I think he gone sneak up on them, too. I’m just waiting. Dang is he the only AA (African American) on the show? Well, go ‘head then Mike.
Umm the “faggot” thing was taken out of context I think. I think dude was begging to differ with some of the posters. Geesh. Must we always fight about what another poster say? And just to let you know, from experiece, Carrington of Houston, men are on the DL to be deceitful, not b/c they’re scared someone is going to “out them for being gay” if that makes sense. 90% of men on the DL b/c they are married or in a monogamous relationship with a woman or something like that. Unless, you meant DL as in closeted homosexual.

I must admit, Mike is a breath of fresh air on that show. I am a fashion design major myself and attend one of the top schools in the nation for it, the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising here in LA. The producers of that show come to our school to cast and I promised myself I would never do it, no matter how desperate I got. (Nick from last season was my teacher!)
Anywho, I really think Michael is amazing. He has already proced to me that he has what it takes. He has a keen eye for design and aesthetic and thats what makes a good designer. Too bad these PR bitches aren’t gonna let him get his true shine on.

From EOnline:
From kilxover: Any Project Runway news? Like, why that damned girl is still in?!
Kristen: Our very own Party Girl, and my best friend Lara Morgenson, met up with Robert this week, and has been talking my ear off ever since about how awesome the guy is. She loves him. He gave her a little bit of scoop, saying that we’re about to see the normally quiet Michael really come into his own as a designer in the upcoming episodes. He also said that much of the cast couldn’t stand “bad mommy” Laura, who was really kind of a bitch, talking crap about her kids and the other contestants–something the producers decided not to show!

@ 42 B Da Man, I’m not sure about all that but I know that he was very interested in women. The last show I did with him was Bronner Bros. in Feb and the Morehouse homecoming show in Oct. and never did he show interest in men, he was always tryin’ to get at the women (not sayin’ he don’t like men, but I highly doubt it). Well I guess everyone can shutup now, cuzz your boy won a challenge last night… Although, I though it was close between the top three, and I thought Kane’s dress/gown overall was better… But it was mos def, Mike’s time to get some recognition.
I also hope the judges know that he helped Angela get her win the previous week, and she stepped it up again this week. He is mos def talented, I think he needs to fix his teeth and he would be fly. (trust me none of you’ll would be feeling him if he wasn’t on project runway) You’ll kill me!
As far as being gay, it really shouldn’t be an issue whether he is or he isn’t, but since I am gay. My GADAR has been buzzing since I first watched the show. Anyway I am glad he doesn’t broadcast it, because it is nobody’s business what he do in the BEDROOM.
