I think the shoes look ok. The good thing is the a nba star is coming out with a shoe everyone can afford. It show’s that he cares about the people that don’t have $100 - $200 to spend on shoes. YOu can’t beat 15.00

Well done! It’s about time there’s a sneaker out there that’s affordable for the kids! Let’s hope others will follow in his footsteps. Much props to Mr. Marbury.

Oh yeah, I forgot about Shaq’s cheap shoes. Kids are still going to want the expensive Jordans because thats what the other kids are going to be wearing. And the kids that can afford the Jordans are going to clown on the kids thats wearing the $15 shoes. Kids can be so cruel…Its still a very good and positive thing that he is doing though!!

shaq makes shoes for under 20.00 also, but marbury is such a jerk, there isnt nothing much he can do to improve his image oher than spending all of this summer building back the gulf region and spending time in african with the kids promoting peace.

My boyfriends baby mother has another child who is fathered by Stephan Marbury, LOL (i know that sounded strange) BUT my point is, since we all have a good relationship (me and her) I get to spend allot of time withe the Marbury’s and i can honestly tell you, this isnt a ploy to sell sneakers or publicity etc. he really does allot for his community, he may not be the greatest at it BUT i give him mad props, he gives back and the whole sneaker thing is a good idea. Not sure it will fly considering children will only want things from FootLocker, etc. Not payless which is where the shoe may end up in time to come.

What Marbury is doing is certainly an admirable thing to do. I think in theory it is an awesome idea. HOWEVER in reality kids buy shoes as a status symbol because they cannot buy cars or jewelry. Expensive shoes says “hey I am worth something” to some of these kids that do not feel that they are worth anything. If Lexus or Mercedes came out with a car that cost only 12k then people would look at Lexus and Mercedes as cheap cars and the high end cars that they now would struggle in sales. Image sells son!!!
Those shoes will soon be out of commission just like Larry Brown.lol Kids will get laughed at on the courts!

Me personally, if i was raising kids and they werent working age kids, they couldnt tell me what THEY want to wear. I grew up in a somewhat privillaged family (which i am greatful, not bragging). My parents never did the whole “you can have whatever u want coz we can afford it”. i wore my very first designer outfit when i was 17, when i could buy with my own money. If a child feels he needs Jordans instead of Marbury’s then thats fine, only he will pay for it, NOT you as a parent. If you raise your children to be humble and accept simplicity THEN in turn they will appreciate life more as adults and know labels and material things dont matter.

I first read about this right here on CL,and was very interested because I happen to work at Steve and Berry’s in Cincinnati, and I must say it’s a good look all around. By me, being an employee there’s a discount involved for me! And because my son is hard on shoes he will get a pair, don’t get me wrong I buy cheap and inexpensive shoes ( have bought Nike and the Shaq”s from Payless-because; Yeah! it does feel good to Payless, etc.)but I will also buy these becasue my son likes Marbury. And the campaign at work is great. Last night, we did the floor setting which includes clothing for men and boys. Actually the clothing is nice.In case, there are people who may not know this! So “bigg-ups” to Stephon and Steve and Berry’s.

If the shoes hold up and the kid can ball, no one’s gonna be laughing if he’s wearing theses shoes on courts. Think about it, you in $200 Jordan’s and you just got schooled by someone wearing $15 kicks. YOUR @ss is gonna get clowned.
That’s why Chuck Taylor’s are still popular. You get beat by someone wearing those you might as well find you another court to play on.
As for getting laughed at for wearing cheap shoes, it’s gonna happen (I use to kick “ZIPS” back in the day) but I’m seeing more and more kids brush that off. Like I said, it just depends on where their head’s at.

Whats up with the “cheap shoe comments” It is sad that black people are so obsessed with retail. I know millionaires who kids run around looking like bums because impressing others is their least concern. Im sure parents on a budget will appreciate these shoes. I commend Stephon for trying to help out the community.
If we invested half the money we spent on clothes, shoes, and jewelry, there would probably be a lot mor eBlack owned banks and other things

yup, believe me, niggas in the hood might cop these. Niggas just keep it gutter here, i hardly see that many people in $200 jordans or none of that shit, when i was in HS. It was mainly air force 1’s, since theres alot of diff types of 1’s at footaction, etc. Im telling u, when i was in HS people werent trying to stunt that much man, cause niggas will def hit a lick on u if they know u wearing $250 jordans.

@16 that’s a good point.
i understand that people are saying that kids will get teased, but at least he’s trying to do SOMETHING…
it’s amazing how we’ll knock Diddy about buying an $11mill necklace and talk about how Diddy should use that money to help out ‘poor people’, and then here comes Marbury helping out those in need, and here we go again, we’re speakin negativity into the atmosphere about how noone’s gonna buy them
I’m sure Marbury thought about that, and i’m sure some negative person told him that when he shared his idea about $15 tennis shoes, but i’m glad he did it anyway…do your thing Marbury

Give black people some good paying jobs and raises, so we can buy some Jordans, LV, Gucci, and Prada!
Don’t put them “bobos” on you kids feet! He’ll go outside and get his little butt kicked!

I was just wondering if this was something else he’s doing, because the clothing shares the same name as his charitable foundation.

NIQ let me break it down for u. U think a $14.99 shoe is made of cheap materials. think again. All of Nikes shoes and Jordan shoes are made in chinese sweatshops by slave like workers who get like $1 a day. and most of them work for more than 14 hours, I seen a documentry about this shit.
Plus the materials are hella cheap in price as they all bought in china. SO they pay a $1 a day salary to soemone who sits down and sews a jordan 21 shoe up, and they bring it here and sell it for $179.99 because they have teh jordan name and because nike is making serious paper. In reality them shoes only worth like $50 in materials, but nike just adds a whole lot of profit for themselves to it.
yall dont know bout this shit, how u think nike is like one of teh richest companies in the world?

I don’t think anything…I know for a fact that they user cheaper material. I didn’t learn it from a documentary on t.v. I lived in south east asia and have seen it. What you say is somewhat true but they still use a lower quality material to make cheaper shoes. You telling me that a pair of bobo’s from walmart or k-mart will last just as long as a pair of nike’s or J’s…you buggin! And if you really knew what you were talking about you would know that the materials are shipped from south korea to china. Then china turns around and makes the shoes…then ships them world wide. Yeah company’s jack up prcies to make a profit but at the same time, some shoes have a higher quality than others!

I hope black people take advantage of what this brother is trying to do for our kids out here. I got this feeling that it would be a school yard joke though. Little kids might be like, “You got the welfare Jordans on” or something else just as dumb. We live in a materialistic society, and people always want what they can’t have. I hope they do well and change the shoe game.

I think he’s got a good idea. Not everyone can afford or wants to drop a bundle on an expensive pair of sneakers. Spend that money on a nice pair of dress shoes or a suit! You may have an interview one day! Anyway, the idea may or may not take off. I don’t think I’d buy any, but I have to give him credit for doing something positive!

What’s funny is no one hear realizes that the same amount of money it cost to make Air Jordans you can make Starbury’s. The only diference is he charges less. If your worried about what people think about your shoes while your playing ball you shouldn’t be playing. Your not going to play any better in a $100 sneaaker than a $15 sneaker. I bought a pair today and I think they are great. I only wish the entire sole was on the outside instead of the inside because the leather bunches a little….I’m not a Marbury fan at all, but when someone can come out with a shoe that doesn’t take food out of a families mouth, I’m a fan of that….

Honestly!….. Your outa the loop if you realy think kids’ll get made fun of for wearing these. I just bought a pair of Lebrons before I knew These came out. I feel worse saying I spent $200 on shoes than I do when I grab something for a good price. some will want to spend more but really most kids will think fine of the smarter kids tahn the ones to make money. More of a factor will be the player endorsing it than the price. If Marbury plays well this year the shoes will take off. especially if the shoes really are as good as the competition.

People are so caught up on name brands and materialistic things. African American’s, especially, cough up all this money for spinning wheels, Jordan’s, and all this other mess, but can’t pay rent or put gas in their car.
It’s time folks realize… it’s all (relatively) the same quality, it’s the brand name you are paying for. If people could see how truly beautiful and amazing they are. And have PRIDE and respect for themselves and others… we would be wiser stewards of our money.
As black people we need to support black businesses that support the black community. Stop paying all this excessive money for Jordan’s to make Michael and Nike executive rich.
This is a wonderful idea and I hope it much success.
While not everyone will buy it, those that do have no reason to hang their head low.
