MOS DEF ARRESTED OUTSIDE VMAS

mos_arrested.jpgMos Def was arrested for disorderly conduct after an unauthorized performance outside the VMA’s. Before police took action, Mos Def performed “Katrina Clap” described as a freestyle indictment of the Bush administration’s slow response to last year’s hurricane victims in New Orleans.

Mos Def, according to authorities, stopped off at RCMH in a flatbed truck around 10 p.m. for an impromptu show for the audience gathered there. An NYPD spokesperson said officers asked him and members of his entourage to shut it down.

But before police took action, Mos Def performed “Katrina Clap,” described as a freestyle indictment of the Bush administration’s slow response to last year’s hurricane victims in New Orleans.

A source told MTV that officers then approached the rapper demanding the operation be stopped immediately (on the grounds that a permit had not been issued). The order wasn’t communicated to Mos Def immediately, so the rapper didn’t end his performance right away, the source said. Police then began making arrests, including the rapper, his entourage and his brother [SOURCE].

EDIT

Here is a video of the arrest! Shout out to TheStefster for taping/sending it!!

JANET STILL HASN’T TALKED TO JUSTIN..

janet_justin.jpg

While promoting her upcoming album “20 Y.O.,” Janet Jackson stopped at Chicago radio station WPWX (Power 92) to visit the “Trey the Chocolate Jock Morning Jump-Off” show, and was promptly asked about her relationship with Justin Timberlake in the wake of her 2004 wardrobe malfunction.

Asked by co-host Kendra G to think of the last time she has spoken to the former N’Sync singer, who performed with Jackson during the infamous Super Bowl halftime show and was responsible for ripping away the fabric that exposed Jackson’s breast to millions, “She said she hasn’t spoken to him since all the drama back in 2004,” Kendra G. told us. “She did say that he has tried to contact her but she isn’t ready to speak with him yet.” [SOURCE]

BLIND ITEM

You don’t have to follow sports to know the identity of this handsome black quarterback (I will not reveal if he is a former or current quarterback, that would give his identity away). Anyway, this Romeo was a serial womanizer who had a galaxy of women worldwide and he’s still a regular at the Playboy Superbowl party each year. His long suffering wife looked the other away until a luxury car was delivered to her by ‘mistake’ that was intended as a birthday gift for his blonde mistress, that was the final straw and she filed for divorce a short time later. Ironically, the mistress would die in a accidental crash a few months later.

  21. go

DOWN WITH THE FASCIST BUSH ADMINISTRATION! GO AHEAD MOS DEF!

IF YOU CAN VOTE IN MIDTERM ELECTIONS THIS NOVEMBER PLEASE DO IT!

  22. Lo

Oh, I hate not knowing!!!! UGH!!!

  23. All of you are idiots.

First, you have to have permisssion to hold a concert in NY no matter how small or large it is.

Two, he didn’t get arrested for clowning bush. He got arrested for holding a concert, for a crowd, that wasn’t authorized, outside of a major event. This is post 9/11, nothing flies in NY anymore (no pun intended).

Three, yea what he did was tight in a defiant way, but I doubt he got his whole song/point across. Which is a loss. Holding a legal concert and having media coverage would’ve made a bigger impact. Why? Because as of right now, the media is playing this up to be him disturbing the peace and disobeying police orders (post 9/11). So instead of looking like a hero to 100% of the public, he looks like a common ignorant black person to those who don’t understand what he was doing.

Four, standing up to the Bush administration and cops by holding an illegal flatbed concert won’t do a damn thing. Yea, he voiced his opinion. Yea, so did Kanye with the whole “Bush doesn’t like black people” thing. What did it do for black people? Not a damn thing. All it turns into is gossip on sites like these and never gets initiated. It never becomes a plan for action.

Voting to put competent people in the white house will do something. Getting your education to become one of those people in the white house to prevent shit like the katrina response will do something. Educating yourself is the only answer. Unauthorized concerts that’ll be the talk of websites for a 2 days aren’t going to change shit. Bush has another year whether black people like it or not.

If you didn’t vote for Kerry last year, then shut your mouth and have a seat.

  24. go

Anyone that is willing to be a voice of dissent against the Bush administration is alright by me. Vote! Vote! Vote!

  25. B

The black cop is looking like he dont want to arrest mos def,but that white cop is right behind him,on his case.It almost look like the mos def has a smirk on his face, like “you think you doing something” to the white cop

  26. LESLIE

WHAT WAS THE NAME OF THE FIRST SONG JUSTIN PERFORM LAST NIGHT AT THE VMA’S ?

  27. B

Can somebody say who the blind item is.I have no clue.

  28. that wasnt right way to do it Mos. c’mon if you really wanted to get a reaction you should have done like that guy, that interfeared with the band that was accepting their award at the VMA’s last night. lol

  29. @Caff

    Finally, someone with some sense… So-sign 100%

This has nothing to do with Mos Def trying to “keep it real” or go against the grain or whatever else people are praising him for. Mos Def broke the law, point blank. There’s no race involved, there’s no politics involved. He wanted to break the law, so his ass got arrested. That’s all there is to it.

And if you ask me, that dumbass deserved it. If Mos Def wanted to ACTUALLY speak out against Bush, he has the money, the connections, and the no-how to do so EASILY. He could have held a LEGAL concert if he wanted to. Hell, as much as MTV has spoken out against Bush, he could have probably worked with them to do something official. But no, call his shit for what it really was: Mos Def wanted to get some sort of praise for being a “rebel freedom fighter” and it backfired. He showed up in a flatbed truck and tried to make a scene, nobody paid attention to his ass, he got arrested, and MTV kept it movin.

This is sad because I usually like Mos Def. But he should have known better.

  30. and before someone says anything…*know-how

  31. man i like mos def…but why would you do that? everyone knows right from wrong mos def, why?????????

  32. Suga Buga

how is janet gonna say she isnt ready to talk to Justin yet, She knew that he was going to snatch that pieace of her bra off, it just went wrong and the hole thing came apart. Im sick of Janet Jackson and her umpa loompa man, GO SIT DOWN!! She is just about as weird as all of her other family!!

  33. akamissj

LOL at #1 but you know you right. If Janet was white this whole thing would be over and buried, and MTV certainly would have never banned her. I swear, ain’t nobody got it harder than a Black woman, but anyway, I won’t get into to that. I’m still mad at how MTV and the media in general was so forgiving with Justin Timberlake and he was an equal partner in the whole thing. If she’s banned from MTV, he should be too!

Oh, and Mos Def basically just got arrested for speaking against Bush, not “disorderly conduct.” True there was other ways to do it, but I can’t knock him because I can’t stand Bush either and this got him the attention he wanted. Keep doing you Mos Def!

  34. I guess Mos Def said, fuck it MTv ain’t invite me to pe4rform I’ma perfor m any damn way. Too bad he got arrested. But you do have to have permits to perform out onth streets.
    Blind item? No clue.
Janet’s tittay incident, that is so old, let’s move on.

  35. Stephanie

I am the one of send the link that I shot with my camera to concreloop. Umm to reply to what Pittiboi said how did he get what he deserved????? I wish I could have got more on tape but Mos Def was telling us that he reach out to MTV many many of times and they didn’t get back at him! So Mos Def did what he had to do to get his voice heard! It wasn’t that serious for the cops to embarrassed him and handcuff him and his friends. Like I told concreteloop if it was some white group or someone they would have NOT did the something that they did to Mos Def.! And that’s a fact. If MTV would have just let Mos def. Perform that would have never happened!!! That is why I am boycotting MTV!

  36. I am about ready to boycott MTV, too. I barely watch as it is. Isn’t the CEO of MTV Black??!!

  37. Jhandi

I am happy that Mos Def exercised his freedom of expression to petition the government regarding a VERY REAL grievance. Very courageous on his part.

  38. ^^^just cuz ur black doesn’t mean ur BLACK..dig it? The boss at MTV has shareholders to answer to and they are a bunch of old white men..big ups to Mos Def but he wasn’t a fol..i’m quite certain he knew he would either get arrested or thrown out..he’s very far from stupid..he made the noise he needed to make

  39. Stephanie

I am dead serious about Boycotting MTV! If u are a real Mos Def Fan or just feel that was wrong for MTV not to put him to perform hit me up at Thestefster88@aol.com

  40. RobLo

I agree 100% with Caff and pitboi,
He could have gone about this different, all this did was make noise on the blogs.
Just cause he said that he contacted Mtv and they didn’t get back to him doesn’t give him the right to “go and do what he had to do”, Post 9/11 the coppers don’t play!!
    White or black.
So no if this was a white group doing this, hell yeah they would have shut them down too.
I don’t like sayin that he was wrong cause I dig Mos Def and his music, but he was wrong this time.

And why are people saying they are going to boycott MTV over this? They had nothing to do with it.
Like they are going to miss you Stephanie and Chellybop.

  41. DIVABOSSBIYATCH

I think the reason that Janet is not speaking to JT is because right after it happened, he basically acted like he had NOTHING to do with it. He started distancing himself from her and whining like she MADE him do it or something. Hell, if she knew about it, he knew about it. And if I remember correctly, he was like dissing her after that. You can’t be dissing an icon!

Dude just comes across as a straight punk to me.

  42. THE MIGHTY MOS DEF!

THEY ARRESTED THE MIGHTY MOS DEF FOR RAPPING!

    THATS BULL!!

THIS JUST STRENGTHINS MY LOVE FOR THE BRO.

  43. @#41…MTV did have something to do w/ it, they turned him down to perform, so he did what he had to do.
But..I said I was “about ready” to boycott them, not for this (Mos Def) but b/c they suck pretty bad anyways as far as lame shows and all that.

  44. Gin Gin

I commend Mos Def, what Black people need is to protest and speak out, he did just that. It was not stupid, it was brave and anyone who just takes it as him breaking the law is missing the point. People should want to know what he was doing to cause disruption – and there you go.. protesting against Bush. Don’t downgrade him, that gave me hope – I’m not about to ridicule the guy.

As far as black people getting an education… totally true (really it’s Americans, period) – people need to get their education before they start bumrushing the polls though lol. You’d be suprised on how much people really know about what’s going on… just seeing the latest diet pill that may give you cancer on local news ain’t educating nobody.

Less than half of the country votes in important elections, I think there’s more to it than that as well. We also have one of the most non-representative governments; in Europe they have so many parties someone can vote for but here, just two. People may not vote because theres not much of a choice, just another old white man who claims he’s gonna represent my views… great.

Not to mention, presidential elections aren’t always as important as those which are for offices in your own state (3 branches, not one).

And let’s not forget the electoral college, straight bullshit lol

I didn’t vote for Kerry or anybody for the matter, I couldn’t vote back then lol – I am registered for next time tho, just letting you know there’s more factors in representing the black voice than “VOTE, VOTE, VOTE!!!” Above all, people really need to educate themselves and get invovled in the local things “PROTEST, PROTEST, PROTEST.” Improve your schools, neighborhoods, don’t conform and be some stereo-type, politics is not just about Bush – he isn’t doing things single handedly. Learn about what’s really going on and take a stand – our issues are being put on the back burner. We all know Bush doesn’t give a fuck, but what are you doing?

Black people will have power at the polls if they were educating themselves and actually doing shit that’ll make everyone care. Get a permit if you gone do somethin’ though lol…

  45. Cause they turned him down?
So are they supposed to say yes to any artist?
“So he went and did what he had to do”, nah if he had to do something then he should have done it the right way and then maybe his full message would have been heard.

  46. momo

    mos def ga be alright.

but what i am really concerned about is who in the ha ha is the blind item about????

Cause that is some messed up ish right there.

  47. I am not saying what he did was “right” but I guess he felt that is what he needed to do to get his voice heard.
True he could have recorded a song, but this was the VMA’s millions of people watch, you know how ppl always do something crazy for attention on the VMA’s that’s all it was. He probably thought tons of ppl would hear him, and that would be a quick way to get the message out, that’s all I am saying.

  48. manup

See protests aren’t like they use to be. Now you gotta go sign this permit and that permit. You can only stay in certain areas and shit. WTF? Protest is just that protest. It’s not to be confined and I’m not saying you should run wild in the streets. The government has actively made it so that protests no longer have the punch they had before.

  49. Colby

What Janet did was tacky, and pushed the black community 20 years back! Can’t stand that plastic surgery lovin ho!

  50. Slovely

I think Mos Def was just following his heart. I don’t think Diddy had a permit to do a concert in the huge truck a couple of years back. I think Diddy got off because it was a party song. Mos Def keep following your heart baby! We need more men like you ;-)

As for Janet I Wouldn’t talk to that fruity muthaf****
after that ish neither. Justin made it seem like Janet was the evil one and he didn’t know ish about it, the reality was he did know and he P****** out like the little rich white boy that he is. Good luck on the album…..Janet. I don’t care if Janet’s album might be wack I’m still gonna support her. From what I heard that Justin album superwack lol, so basically all that hype was for nothing

  51. Dino

    Caff,I somewhat agree wit you.
What Kanye said to Bush was prolly the best chance he had. On the real,if Kanye would have called The White House talkin bout he want to speak to Bush, they’ll say he busy or he’ll get back to you. Bush prolly was watchin TV when he got that news or his peeps hit em up.
Mos Def tried to do the same thing cuz MTV had Big Award show that everybodys watchin(maybe Bush who knows?). And about that “permit” that he was spose to have. MTV has the permit. You mean to tell me that the fans that was chillin had permits? All the performers didn’t have a permit cuz MTV had the Radio Music Hall on locked. Basicly Celebs/stars were aloud there regardless if they performin or not.

  52. judah

No disrespect to you Caff #23, because I usually find your intelligence, sarcasm, and humor entertaining, but there is a difference between achieving success within the system as opposed to changing the system. There is no precedence for a dominant regime being disempowered through peaceful protest or infiltration. If there is, please tell me. Why do you think that when you see Condoleeza Rice or Colin Powell on TV they’re giving the company line, because they have to. I don’t give a damn how many certificates and diplomas you have; once you get in those inner circles of power you don’t influence them, they influence you or you can have a nice day. In my opinion, the reason why you have so many negroes on the “get out and vote” platform is because they don’t want to lose the “freedoms” that they think that they have if they offend the powers that be. More negroes went out to vote for the 2004 election than ever before and how did that turn out? Before negroes get on that “vote Kerry” shit, what can anyone tell me about Kerry’s platform other than he was willing to lower himself to cater to these silly black churches? Are you aware that he’s related to George W. Bush and that they’re both Skull & Bones members? I mean damn, even white people were passing out fliers with that low level information prior to the “election” in an attempt to show that the whole thing was a charade, lol. “Wow, we really have a free choice….we get to pick between one of two people who are totally removed from the black community. Hopefully one of these guys will save us so that we can avoid working together.”

Obviously Mos Def’s stunt was intended to bring attention to himself, whether it was genuine or not, that’s the point of protest nowadays.

As for the quarterback, I say Warren Moon.

  53. leekagyrl

Props to Mos Def. I love him. His music is always on point and deep. I like how he ain’t afraid to keep it real and tell it like it is. OMG, I hope someone taped this and puts it online, I want to see this Katrina clap. I Can’t Stand Bush’s lying butt. kkk?

  54. Dino

I just want to add that. Its some of the Real Hip-Hop rapper makin a change/letting their voice be heard. Why can’t it be Snoop Dogg or Master P? I’m just tryna say the rappers wit a lot of money do somethin positive once for a change. They need to quit blowin it on cars, houses, bling bling,1,000 leather coats, etc. You cant shine but remember to “Do The Right Thing.”

  55. mimi_ga

I know that Janet and JT did that on purpose. I was just disappointed in how JT acted like he had nothing to do with it. I would have been happy to hear him say, “yeah the tit thing was the best part of the performance for me,” or just own that it went further than it was supposed to. As for Mos, he has an album coming out soon. All the other rappers are getting arrested for publicity, maybe he was too. I know that he knew better. I loved the direction, but he could have handled it better.

  56. mimi_ga

Dino, I am with you on that. Latifah gives scholarships for girls to attend schools. I would like to see more scholarships given out to those who want to attend college or trade school, that otherwise wouldn’t be able to go. As for Kerry’s platform, he wanted to sit down with N. Korea and I was pleased about that. Yes, I voted. It felt more like, “I liked his positions on the debated issues, best” — It wasn’t like I felt a real change could come our way. I know it sounds cynical. I just felt like folks should vote since people died over it.

    Blind spot- No idea.

  57. » •Living & Loving• »

Why am I not surprised? With those colors on I see why.

  58. Dino

@MIMI_GA. I feel wat you sayin too.
