In related news, Alicia Keys is set to play an animated alien on the hit children’s series, The Backyardigans. The R&B star jumped at the chance to get involved in the cartoon series, which features her niece Shakyra Lipscomb, and has also written an original song for the episode.
Keys says, “I knew this would be a great project for me to get involved in and working alongside my niece was so much fun.” [SOURCE]

Alicia Keys is becoming a mom — Mommy Martian, that is — in an upcoming episode of “The Backyardigans” called “Mission to Mars.” She is voicing the green alien who joins the gang in a musical space adventure, while her real-life niece, Shakyra Lipscomb, plays baby Martian Boinga.
I don’t know what they mean by real-life niece, but I call my best friend’s son my nephew and she refers to me as his aunt in front of him. So maybe it’s a way to show affection and teach respect to a child.

Some journalists used buzz words like “real-life” to add some sort of affect to the story and/or sentence.
Also some interviewers just take what some peeople say at face value and that’s it. They don’t do their research or ask follow-up questions.
I mean, it’s true some people call their friends, sister or cousin, when in reality their not even related.

They call each other sister or cousin because they are so close. I read articles that have referred to Kelly as Beyonce’s real sister or cousin.

I just had to say that although I like that Backyardigans show, it has got a few issues. Why to some of the animals have to have sterotypical black names like Tyrone and Uniqua? I don’t really think that is necessary. But I do like how they do all the little dances and stuff. At least they’re teaching the kids rhythm.

I love Alicia…but I hate the leggings. Her legs kinda thick, no disrespect. But I hated the look when it was first out and its still wack now.

I watch the show with my 4 year old daughter and I was absolutely delighted to discover a show with a Tasha, Pablo, Uniqua and Tyrone.
