CL INTERVIEW: LUCY DIAMONDS SPEAKS

Tuesday, September 26, 2006

lucy_d.jpg
Lucy Diamonds is no stranger to gossip blogs. In the past week, she has done “exclusive interviews” for about 3 of them. Since she e-mailed us (after she read some of your comments), I decided to ask her some questions of my own.

Initially, I wanted to do the interview over the phone, but she wanted me to e-mail the questions..

In the interview, the rapper apologizes to Jay-Z’s mother, talks about the infamous 50 Cent magic-stick comment, and speaks on gossip blogs..

First up, I gotta ask you- How do you feel about gossip blogs? Do you check out any of them?
LUCY DIAMONDS: Honestly, I never really paid attention to gossip blogs, nor did I realize the strength and the impact it has on today’s general public. Last week after the XXL Mag online story came out, a lot of your readers here at concreteloop messaged me to myspace, emailed me, im’ed me and called me. So immediately this website caught my attention and I checked it out and I saw some of the comments. I respect everyone’s opinion even the negative comments. The revolution will be blogged!!!

I actually viewed your myspace video thing the other day, and you were clowning everyone from Miss Info, Jay-Z, to 50 Cent. I got to ask, 50 really doesn’t have a magic stick?
It’s clinically proven that if anybody abuses steroids, it affects the magic stick. So if it’s true that 50 is abusing steroids, then he suffers from this symptom…

Ok, so let’s get to this whole Jay-Z debacle. You said so much of the story hasn’t even been brought up, what do you mean by that?
Everyday something else can be added to this ongoing story. Everyday I get some form of hate from this, but the hate will not stop my movement. I know lot of people are planning on coming out against me. But at the same time I’ve received just as much love and I appreciate the support.

Jay-Z hit you up recently, what did he say to you?
I talked to Jay-Z yesterday several times via two-way. It was an interesting conversation to say the least. I do want to apologize for calling his mother a lesbian. And I am. It wasn’t in my place to speak out against his mom. It’s very disrespectful on a different level, and while I’m not apologizing to Jay-Z, I’m apologizing to Gloria Carter for my complete disrespect. Let me get it clear, I’m not apologizing for what I said about my personal opinions on his blasphemous lyrics, the unfair stance he took because of my association with Amil, or anything else. And while I do not agree with a lot of choices people make, especially those which go against what the bible teaches us, (and I am not saying that I myself have not made many poor decisions), how I addressed the situation was completely wrong, and I have no excuse for the things I’ve said about Jay-Z’s mother. I handled it very poorly, so once again, Gloria Carter I am very sorry for all the unnecessary disrespect I’ve shown. It was not kind to lash out at you, and for that I apologize.

In a recent interview with Fresh from XXL, you said Jay-Z was like the anti-Christ. Why did you say that?
In the book of Revelation, and throughout the bible actually, we are warned about false prophets, and I understand that most people don’t know how to apply the bible’s messages into our modern living. I’m not saying Jay-Z is the Anti-Christ, but can be likened to a false prophet, and I am in no position to judge him but I do feel responsible for pointing out the danger he is putting himself in. You can’t put yourself on a level like that, you can’t view yourself as having any importance to people. Everything he has, he has because God allowed him to have it, it was by nothing he did, and he needs to remember that. We all do. Everything we have and everything we do is by the grace of God. I am not trying to beat people over the head with my beliefs or anything like that, and I’m actually very conflicted when I feel I should speak out on what I believe because I do not want my words or my actions to disgrace God. I don’t want my past mistakes to let people view me as a hypocrite now and therefore not take what I say about God seriously, simply because I am the one speaking about Him.

A lot of people are saying you keep bringing up this Jay-Z thing just to get attention for your album, what do you have to say to them?
If people think that, they are wrong. First of all, I don’t have an album out so I’m not promoting anything to sell. Right now, I’m giving away my music. Anybody can hear my music at www.myspace.com/officiallucydiamonds and if they want a song, they can email me and I’ll personally send them my music for free. It’s not about the money.

Don’t you think this whole thing will sabotage your career? Or do you even care?
Everybody is saying that I am committing career suicide, I’m going to be blackballed from the industry and I won’t have a future. I honestly don’t care. The business of music is so trivial, it just doesn’t matter to me. Look at people who work so hard and never get deals, never put out records, and never let go of their dream of doing it, so they just keep taking the beatings. Or how about a band who gets a deal and releases an album and they just never pop? They just sit in the stores telling their friends they had an album out, and that’s all it ever amounts to. So I’m not afraid of career suicide, if that’s what you want to call it. People are over when they’re over. However, with all the technology of today, it is much easier for an artist to remain independent, especially if you only aim for a smaller but loyal fanbase. You can now do everything yourself. You don’t have to answer to a corporation or the industry. You can sell your music on your own websites, press up your own music and sell it at your shows. You can sell your music yourself through iTunes, create your own ring tones, and promote and sell it on myspace. If you can’t get your video played, you can youtube and still reach the masses. An artists success depends on the artist and their music. That’s it.

Ok I do this thing called “name drop” basically I just drop names, and you say the first thing that comes to mind.

So what’s next for you? I know you have a new album, entitled Poor Dream Redemption, coming out soon. Is this going to be released independently?
Poor Dream Redmeption will be released at the first of next year through an independent label with major international distribution.

Is there anything else you want to clear up?
We need to clear up hip-hop in general. It’s not art anymore, it’s art-ificial.

She needs to stop. She is just another whack artist no ones cares about. And if your trying to get on in the rap game in you must definitely don’t wanna get on the bad side of Jay-Z or 50. Especially 50. She just another white gurl trying to talk shit. Notice its all. My gurl said this and my gurl said that. If you don’t know it for yourself then stfu.

I DO AGREE THAT JAY-Z NEEDS TO STOP WITH ALL THE “GOD OF RAP” MESS BUT HE STILL THE SHIZ-NIT BUT THAT NEEDS TO STOP. BUT THIS TRICK IS WHACK. AIN’T NOBODY TRYNA HEAR HER. SHE AIN’T IN A PLACE TO JUDGE NOBODY.

I am not one to judge but Jay-Z is really blasphemous. Outside of what he said on the Grey album. He said on one song niggas been praying to God so long that they atheist. On another he said middle finger to the Lord. If that’s not blasphemy, what is? And those lyrics are plainly spoken they aren’t in reverse. To try and say oh it’s just entertainment is ridiculous because young kids sing these songs word for word. Also, just the fact that people are cussing folks out in Jay’Z’s defense proves that he has a lot of influence on many people. Life and death is in the power of the tongue. I really feel for Jay-Z. I think that people have to understand that if you are not saved and you don’t have a relationship with God, then you just don’t know any better and that’s Jay-Z’s case. He just doesn’t know any better. The only thing we can do as Christians is to pray for him because he really does not see the errors in his ways.
