JUSTIN & TIMBALAND PERFORMANCE
ANGEL: I actually thought it was alright. My Love is the new jam! He should have had TI come out though. Tim looked like he gained some of that weight back too!
TIANNA: I thought it was going to be tight once I heard ‘My Love’ come on…but the ‘Sexy Back’ performance was pretty wack. I didn’t want to see him and Timbaland two steppin’ all over the damn stage.
BRIAN: I’m glad that Justin Timberlake opened up, I enjoyed his performance. And I was super amped that Timbaland came out on stage with him and they did the little choregraphed thing. I’m glad he performed “My Love.” I think JT is a really good performer, his vocal performance and singing in that falsetto never lets me down. I’m really glad to see Timbaland back in the game doing his thing.
BEYONCE
ANGEL: I know I will probably get some drama for this, but I think she had the best performance of the night. I liked the dance routine (because she stepped up) and I’m liking how she is changing up her style. I’m not really a Beyonce fan, but she is starting to grow on me. Her STANS just need some help though.
TIANNA: I expected alot better, at the end i was left with nothing. Usually Beyonce wows me but, not this time. Maybe its the fact she did this particular song, PLUS the fact she did the same choregraphy her dancers during the ‘Destiny Fulfilled’ tour. She looked absolutly gorgeous no doubt, but the performance was pretty blah. I think she should’ve performed ‘DejaVu’ which has alot more energy…or anything other that ‘Ring the Alarm’. This song is only good for a video. Her 2003 VMAs performance tops this one like, one thousand fold.
BRIAN: Beyonce’s performance didn’t really impress me, as far as her energy. It wasn’t bad, but I wasn’t wowed. Vocally, she sounded great! And of course, she looekd great. But I don’t know, it wasn’t as high-energy as she usually is. Also, it was sort of funny to me that she used that same dance break from the Destiny Fulfilled DVD from the “Soldier” portion of the performance, except, of course, it was all women. I guess I just wasn’t really impressed. Beyonce, to me, has never had a BAD performance, I just wasn’t blown away. I guess my expectations were just high. It had the potential to be really hot and intense.
LIL KIM COMING OUT ON STAGE
ANGEL: Why was she acting like she didn’t want to leave the stage?! I don’t even think she was reading off of the teleprompter. HA. She looked nice though, I’m glad she didn’t go all crazy with her hair.
TIANNA: She looks so much better now – her weave, her body…like jail has been good to her. I’m mad at her freaky tail bending over and acting crazy on stage though. Did anybody notice Diddy’s face as she was speaking lol?
BRIAN: Lil’ Kim looked really good, and she actually looked black to me. I was very surprised. She looked classy! I hope she comes back hard. It was good to see her at the award show.
LUDA & PHARRELL
ANGEL: Luda was aiight. I’m a Ludacris fan, so I was going to like it anyway. But what was up with the Pussy Cat Dolls coming out at the end? Too damn random for my tastes.
TIANNA: I miss the old Luda. Luda is a pretty boy now, so because of that…we don’t get that same energy he use to give. Remember the last VMAs when Luda did the Go-Go version of ‘Pimpin All Over The World’? Yea, that’s the Luda I want. Pharrell & the Pussycat Dolls couldn’t even save this. The only cool thing about the performance was the screen above them flashing dollar bills with Pharrell & Luda’s faces on them.
BRIAN: I think Ludacris definitely stepped his performance game up, but still, by the end of the show, I’d forgotten that he’d performed until I glanced at my notes again. I don’t know, something about Ludacris’s performances doesn’t grab me, they are never memorable to me. And why did he even need Pharrell on stage?! I know he sings the hook, but he said like, NOTHING while he was up there. The Pussycat Dolls made a guest appearance towards the end, and then took home an award afterwards for Best Dance Video. That was a surprise, but I was happy. I loved the “Buttons” video.
SHAKIRA & WYCELF
ANGEL: Not to much to say about this one. She can shake them hips though, but I think I started falling asleep during this part.
TIANNA: The show was pretty lame until I saw this. This was one of the best performances IMO. Shakira is such a great artist and amazing dancer. She has a great chemistry with Wyclef and I love this song. The whole vibe of the performance was awesome.
BRIAN: Shakira’s performance was beautiful at the beginning but I kind of got bored towards the end. Her hips are amazing, though! Goodness gracious. I would have loved to see her dance more, but she was wearing a dress. Wyclef seemed a little awkward to me… like he wasn’t all there or something! It was random.
CHRISTINA AGUILERA
ANGEL: You can tell she was getting over a cold or something, because we al know the chick can sing. But I’m with Tianna, she needs to get over that 40s look. Yeah we get you’re trying something new, but please!
TIANNA: I’m SOOOOO over Christina’s look. Like get over this damn 40s theme, get a new hair do’. Her performance…it was ok. She looks good in red and her voice was alright (word is, she was sick). But I’m pretty much sick of her time warped ass (sorry Christina fans)

ANGEL: I love TI! I don’t care what anyone says, his performance was good. Atleast they didn’t mess up his shit like BET did. LMAO..
TIANNA: Shoulder Lean…he could’ve left that out. But his performance was pretty good. Good to see that he didn’t have no technical difficulties like at that other awards show lol. The little kids in the background was really cute.
BRIAN: T.I.’s performance, to me, was the best of the night. I think T.I. has so much stage prescence, always. I think it’s because I’ve had the oppurtunity to him live and he just carries so much intensity while he’s on stage. I thought it was really dope, I enjoyed him. And the kids were the cutest.
HYPE WILLIAMS TRIBUTE
ANGEL: I loved this part of the show. Hearing all the old jams from Busta and Missy brought back some memories. It’s funny how Missy had the same exact look from the her debut video, too hot. I know yall caught it when she couldn’t get out of the Jeep too. HAHAH. Good for Hype though, he deserved it.
TIANNA: Best part of the show. I wish they could’ve had more performances included but MISSY WENT HARD WITH THEM FINGERWAVES YO. I knew she would have on the trashbag but the fingerwaves had me going. Hype’s award was well deserved, he has been in the game too long not to be recognized.
BRIAN: The Hype Williams tribute was good. I wanted more after the two performances, but I was too through when Missy came out in the throwback garbage bag! And it really looked like her and Timbaland were really having fun. I miss their chemistry. I’m a huge Timbaland and Missy head, so it was good to see them together. Hype Williams cleaned up really nicely. But can someone please tell me what Kanye West was talking about? It was so sing-songy, I couldn’t focus on what he was talking about.
OVERALL?
ANGEL: It sucked and I’m mad I wasted my time. And get this I actually feel asleep during it. Jack Black wasn’t funny, half of the performances were garbage, and MTV was just trying too damn hard!
TIANNA: This show gave me a better appreciation for the BET Awards. Jack Black is totally on that crack.
BRIAN: The awards were not all that great. My overall impression was that MTV tried to do a lot without doing too much and it turned out to be a big mess. None of the performances were that great, it just seemed like in trying to tone down the awards, they made it suck as a whole. Jack Black? He’s a funny man, but he didn’t hold the awards well. I was thoroughly bored throughout most of the award show. They need to get it back together, because this year’s BET Awards defintely stole their thunder, as far as host and performance-wise.

The best performance last night was the band on the treadmills. They were ridin out on those things. It was ORIGINAL! Beyonce did good like she always does, but I don’t think it was original. Jack Black was whack! No one will ever top Jamie Foxx’s Opening at the 2001 VMA’s. That was crazy! Holla!
*BEYONCE was Beyonce as usual, with a mix of Janet at the end of the performance.
*Although CHRISTINA’s an excellent singer, I think that she should’ve sang a more uptempo song.
I appreciate that she wanted to add a nice change– because she probably figured that everybody else was going to do the big productions, with the 15 dancers, and special effects going on behind them–but, her performance was too late in the show.
So by the time they finally got around to her set, I’m sure that most of the people there were probably half asleep–I know I was.
*JUSTIN didn’t offer up anything that he hadn’t done before, but even so, it still started off the show on a good note.
*The Hype Williams tribute was pretty good. I liked how they set it up. And I liked Kanye’s intro to the tribute.
*However, the rest of the show was pointless. And I don’t know why anybody would depend on Jack Black to carry a whole show by himself. The dude is NOT funny.

@123, I saw missy get hit too. Funny. I only wanted to see T.I, Luda, and Beyonce performance. I turned it when JT came on. I like the Jay-z opening. For the most part the show sucked. I wanted to snatch Jack Black through the t.v. and smack him. I would have like to see Chris Brown or Ciara perform.
I really enjoyed Beyonce’s and Justin’s performances. And I understand the Janet comparisons, but if we are going to be for real, they both got that group dance thing from Michael. He was the originator, wit his crazy self!!! lol

The reason why practically NO hip-hop videos won was because they aren’t original. They all have the same look: money wasted (i.e. jewelry and grillz), expensive rented cars, naked hoes shaking their a$$es…It’s been watered down and fed to the hip hop community as the only acceptable way to make a video.
The people who try to switch it up and try something different don’t get any love (i.e. Common).
So if MTV is actually going on the basis of the best MUSIC VIDEO, then I can totally see why you didn’t see 50, Luda, and the rest of them taking home VMA’s. So I’m not even mad at MTV for that.

So the VMA’s sucked a big one this year but it had it moments. I wish they would have let the hype williams tribute go on a little longer. Beyonce was ok, but to be a janet knock off is not hot. Justin, All American Rejects, and TI had the best perfomances. JAck black was ok but MTV was the big problem.

christina aguilera – her performance was alright, though her energy level was kinda low ,but at least she wasn’t oversinging the song, but i think it’s time christina switches up her style,coz this whole 40s look is gettin’ tired. overall she was 1 of the best vocals of the night.
shakira – she was definately entertainning, but came up short with her vocals. she and clef got good chemistry.

Christina had a cold and still rocked it. I’m not the biggest fan of her look either, but she’s committed to it. And that CD is awesome.
