I think the reason MTV blacklisted her was because viacom asked her & justin to apologize again at the grammy awards, Justin agreed but Janet said she wasn’t going to apologize again therefore they cancelled her appearance at the 2004 grammy’s. And ultimately stopped showing her on MTV. I know people keep saying well they need to stop playing Justin also, but Justin cooperated with whatever Viacom wanted him to do regarding the superbowl whereas Janet apologized once and felt like she didn’t have to anymore.

I know still its wrong but…her and Justin did cost mtv millions and they can never produce another halftime. But at least Justin cooperated. But it is what it is…

I just think that everything Janet has been through with mtv since ‘86 I would’ve expected MTV to be angry that’s a given but not stop playing her. MTV themselves made Janet one of their icons and for them to treat her like this is not cool.

Well, I was pleasantly surprised: quite a lot of mtv links concerning janet, her music, videos and bio and pics came up. You can even view the CALL ON ME viedo on the mtv site.

So now i’m really confused. If they feature her on the website, why not on the channel itself. it’s either you banned someone for real or you didn’t. this is so weird to me.

I actually attended Madonna concert, and those people showed all kinds of love. Now granted she is not as nimble as back in the day, but it didn’t matter. For those who have this notion that Janet and Michael just started to associate with blacks……that is an outright, bold-faced LIE if one was ever told. You are either misinformed or misguided or both. The music of Janet and Michael has always been a fixture on the likes of Soul Train, BET, in the Black community etc., back in the day and even today. As far as MTV goes, Janet and Michael are damn near soley responsible for the black following MTV now enjoys. In my opinion regarding MTV, Janet and Michael were exploited, used, however you wish to say it, to get black folks watching their channel, because MTV was an all white channel back in the day and still is. The way they are treating Janet today only proves that claim. If they were treating Justin this way, then I wouldn’t have a problem, at least it would then be fair. But the focus is blatantly on Janet. Before the Jacksons, MTV only played rock music for the most part with white only audiences. But it wasn’t until the Jacksons (Michael with Thriller and Janet with Control) came along and MTV saw they could get a lot more income from the large black fan base the Jacksons have. Michael’s career was well established before Thriller, Janet’s music career was just starting to take off with Control and if went up from there. This is why she became their first ICON. I remember back in the day during BET’s Video Soul era with Donnie Simpson when Janet sat on stage with him in interviews. Though Mike didn’t give many interviews (who could blame him), his music was always in heavy rotation on BET back in the day. So when you come with asinine comments, make absolutely certain that you come bearing facts to support your asininity. That’s it and that’s all to that.

To rebut another notion, yes we see information about Janet on MTV’s webpage, however most of that information is stuff we already know — things that occurred before the superbowl incident. But its not about seeing Janet links on their webpage. Hell Janet helped make MTV what it is today. The fact of the matter is they are now not playing her music. Now to turn an ounce of attention to #30 for just a quick second….Justin Timberfake did just what Justin Timberpunk did because he is a wimp, a spineless wimp. He should have been there for her to share the brunt of the blame but he chose and did otherwise. Why keep apologizing for over and again for an accident, it makes you appear guilty. And this is why Janet regrets apologizing because it was truly an accident. Further, the Superbowl incident happened one point in time, therefore only one apology was needed if any at all. To slight her because she didn’t apologize a second time is down right racist, let’s get real. Janet’s gave the apology that was heard around the world shortly after the incident and that should have safficed. What it boils down to is that Justin took advantage of his white male privlege, something we as blacks will never know anything about. With Janet being black and female, that was already two strikes against her from a historical perspective. Yes I went there — and eloquently played the race card. When it comes to Black and White in America, America more often than not sides with White. If that were Usher who exposed Madonna’s breast, he would be under the gun right now and we all know it. So as Blacks, no matter how big we get in fame, fortune, power, and prestige, do something that America disagrees with and America will let you know just how black you are. Jim Crow is still in full effect folks, for those of you who are up on your history.
