Well its about time! Kelis is launching an apparel line called Cake and is scheduled to release her own cookbook next year. There’s also a plan in the works for a Kelis-headed line of cosmetics and beauty products, she recently told MTV.
“Fashion is a big part of my life, so I’m sticking by that, really,” Kelis said. “I got a million and one ideas. And I’m always approached by designers and people about stuff. I actually designed items for my first video and my second ['Bossy' and 'Blindfold Me']. So it just made sense. It’s actually really second nature to me. It hasn’t been a far stretch. “I have the ideas, and then [the process] is just like with the music industry,” she continued. “You have to have the vision, and then you have to have someone willing to release your vision.”
The clothing line will be a reflection of Kelis’ eclectic style while still being wearable. Kelis points to the ‘Bossy’ video where she wore high-waist jeans she designed with Miss Sixty, as an example of what’s to come from her own line. I look forward to this line because I was searching everywhere for them jeans!
Kelis’s cookbook will be more straightforward, full of basic to advanced recipes. Her mother was a chef and the singer herself has been cooking for years making everything from soul food to Latin dishes to Asian delicacies.

well nothing exciting really. another crappy clothing line, like the rest of them. these celebs have their clothing lines just for one reason – to earn more money but u will never see them wearing anything from their own line. (maybe 1/2 shirts, which were designed specially for them, not for the public).
thats true, so many celebs today have their own clothing lines. and the ones that slap the logo all over the shirts are the ones i hate lol. im not going to name any names.

I’m usually critical about celebs anyway (so who knows why I torture myself — I guess I can’t stay away from the ‘Loop!) but as much as I laugh at the progression of celebrities from ‘singing’ to ‘makin’ shirts and jeans’, I can usually accept it when their fashion style has some iconic appeal that makes the jump seem logical. (In other words, when Steve Harvey (regardless of how you feel about him) started a suit line, I thought, “OK, that makes sense. People know you for your suits.”) But there are other times when you just have to chuckle — like Busta with his ‘Bushi’ line.
This to me is more like ‘Bushi’ because I usually associate Kelis with having weird lookin 80s retro clothes. (Or as little as possible on). But God bless her in her endeavor and hopefully she’ll prove me wrong.
I will definitley be picking up the book, along with some clothes. I love Kelis she is so unique and different. I will support her.
I’ll be checking out that clothing line. Bout time! Hope the clothes are made for us gals with the hips and curves though. I like her style, as you can see. HA HA. Hey, wonder what happened to Eve’s “FETISH” line. I liked that. Haven’t seen much of it lately.
Yeah I heard she could throw down, I will buy her cook book but not crazy about the clothing line I think the only thing Kelis has ever worn that I liked was those jeans in the “Bossy” video other than that it’s a bunch of weird shit. Stuff that only celebs could pull off b/c I would look like a fool going to work with her stuff on. But I’m happy for her or any sista that’s doing her thang.
I’m sorry but I love Kelis…and her style is unique so has definitely come a long way from the Kalidescope days. This is the only artist whose clothing line I’m excited about…can’t wait to get my hands on em!!!
