Well its about time! Kelis is launching an apparel line called Cake and is scheduled to release her own cookbook next year. There’s also a plan in the works for a Kelis-headed line of cosmetics and beauty products, she recently told MTV.
“Fashion is a big part of my life, so I’m sticking by that, really,” Kelis said. “I got a million and one ideas. And I’m always approached by designers and people about stuff. I actually designed items for my first video and my second ['Bossy' and 'Blindfold Me']. So it just made sense. It’s actually really second nature to me. It hasn’t been a far stretch. “I have the ideas, and then [the process] is just like with the music industry,” she continued. “You have to have the vision, and then you have to have someone willing to release your vision.”
The clothing line will be a reflection of Kelis’ eclectic style while still being wearable. Kelis points to the ‘Bossy’ video where she wore high-waist jeans she designed with Miss Sixty, as an example of what’s to come from her own line. I look forward to this line because I was searching everywhere for them jeans!
Kelis’s cookbook will be more straightforward, full of basic to advanced recipes. Her mother was a chef and the singer herself has been cooking for years making everything from soul food to Latin dishes to Asian delicacies.

I love everything about Kelis. I’ll definitely buy her clothing line…but the cookbook, well, let’s just say she can cook but I can’t.

It’s highly unlikely Kelis will design anything I’d actually wear. I do however admire her passion and enthusiasm. Kudos to her on her new endeavors!
I like Kelis because she is very different. She has her own way of dressing. I would buy it if it isnt expensive

as far as the clothing, kelis is eclectic, trendy, and very edgy which i think will appeal to a large number of women. women don’t wanna wear jeans and a t shirt all the time, or at least i dont lol. sometimes you need to spice it up…i def will be checking her line out.

@#45, I didn’t know she (Oprah) allowed that but at the same time, I’m not surprised. Her cross country trip with Gayle is VERY boring.
Anyway, no one really talks about Kelis’ music, just her style. That is what her appeal is. I don’t like it (her music or style) but many do and she may do well. At least, some demographic will be interested. I may have to check out the cookbook, though.
BTW, not that everyone has to know who Malcolm X is but EVERY black person should–at the least. That is, assuming the person who asked was black.
Oh, the high waist jeans are cute but you must have somewhat of a flat tummy or you will look preggers. I know. I have a “pooch” and would not be able to pull off the jeans without looking like I’m a month or two with child. Maybe she won’t use a lot of elastic. Then, again, I gotta breathe. lol!
i love me some Kelis but can’t do the high jeans. Kelis looks good in her own clothes. I don’t think alot of people are going to pull off that eclectic look.

If it is of any interest to you, I like to cook pernil (pork), lots of different types of soups, seafood (my favorite), rick with chicken, or fried chicken, steak, and desserts. I hate beans (not all Latino people like beans lol) so I stay away from that. =]

I’m not a Kelis fan and I tend to over look her alot. I think she is only getting fashion credit do to the release of “Kelis Was Here”. Cuz she sure wasn’t a fashion ICON on any of her other albums. Oh well….

At one point Kelis was supposed to be coming out with an accessory line called Betty Reubbells or something like that… Wonder what happened with that…
Kelis is known much more for her style than her music and always stands out on the red carpet! I am anxious to see what she will bring to the table!!!
