Kelly Rowland was slated to hit stores this summer, with a new album entitled, My Story, but the singer decided to scrap that idea and start from scratch.
Opting to change the tempo of the whole album, she sat down with MTV to explain the reason behind this:
“It was basically a list of songs that I put together about the past three years of my life, with love and relationships,” Rowland said of the album. “And I remember listening to the record, and I was just like, ‘I don’t want this to be too deep to where, you know, [I] lose people.’ I still wanna have my party records, and I still wanna make people get up and bob their heads and vibe a little bit. And the record was too full of midtempos and ballads, so I wanted to bring it up a little bit. I mean, I’m 25. I’m young!”
Kelly says she was inspired by Brandy, old Whitney Houston songs, as well as from her friend Beyonce. She mentions a new song from off the album, I’m Still In Love With My Ex..
“There’s one record called ‘I’m Still in Love With My Ex,’ and that’s one of the deepest songs on the record to me,” Rowland said.
So can we assume it’s about former fiance Roy Williams, who called off their wedding? “People are gonna ask all those kinda questions, but it’s just a song,” Rowland said. “Sometimes you enhance!”

Man, I totally agree and I remember that, or at least I remember hearing those rumors. It’s like bey has some type of hold over kelly, i never seen nothing in my life like it, when kelly talks about bey, her face just glows! I wonder if kelly has any real sisters, and if so, does she admire them or express her love for them as much as she does for bey. I’m sure, not only Brandy has given her advice on her career, probably those closer to her has said the same. Mark my words this chick gone write a book one day, and by that time, no one’s gonna wanna hear it cause everybody’s gonna say, “told you so.” My mama said in her day, Diana Ross was compared to beyonce in her group, there wasn’t suppose to be a lead singer, but diana ross got all the attention, and none of the other members would say anything negative about diana while they were still together, so that they could just stay in the group and reap all the benefits, but, when the group broke up, and some years later, two other members spilled the beans and told about all the turmoil in the group, and how diana was sleeping with everyone, and getting all the attention, and she was encouraged to go solo. Diana even had a child with Barry Gordy or something to that effect….but i just believe poor little kelly’s gonna wake up when all the opportunities are over for her..like i said, i’m buying her cd, crap or not, cause she needs to know she’s as good as most of the major performers/singers out now.
I do support kelly and whatever happens with her. She really needs to step out of Beyonce’s shadow. I did not like the last album she brought out, but with the right writers and producers, she will be fine.
I really like her and her voice is beautiful. During their tour she had the best onstage presence and her voice was the strongest. It seems that some of you are trying to put her down and make negative things up about her just to try to persuade others to believe the same thing. And of course most of you are Beyonce fans.
When it was her time to perform her solos, the crowd went crazy. Better acceptance than Michelle and Beyonce’s. I do admit that she should leave the camp but she’ll do that on her own you know. I prefer her voice over the others any day. And Brandy’s Full Moon and Afrodisiac are two of the best R&B albums ever!
Kelly is disappointing as a solo artist! I don’t even know if I think she still has potential… That music that leaked sucked ass, and her vocals are weak to me… She makes poor song choices, and seems too content to exist only in Beyonce’s shadow…
She has a lot to prove! If she falls short on this one it’s over for her!

I like all of the mid tempo ballads that I have heard from her album… I hope that she does step out of Beyonce’s shadow because that is where she is going to lose people. I am a HUGE Kelly Rowland fan and I really want her sophmore album to go at least platinum.
