I have heard the same complaints about the clothing line. It would be a wise business move to provide larger sizes for those who obviously are anxious to by her clothing. $$$$$ hello-create another line-plus sizes-that would have been an opportunity to create a buzz/we are working on another line with larger sizes and we are currently looking for plus size models!!!

I live in Chitown and a reporter from Fox news local station 32 went on to say this morning that they were soo heated about what went down with the reporter from channel 2 that they almost cut off the interviews for other reports. She also stated that from that point on they were all warned to ask questions about the line and no personal questions about Bey’s personal life. The Fox news anchor also stated this morning that she had a copy of Bey’s Blender cover and showed it to Mmama Knowles and she rolled her eyes with displesure over the cover. You couldn’t ask for better drama than what being shown in Chicago over the past couple of days. Tonight is the Glamorama concert.

I think if your asking people to buy your clothing you should support it yourself by wearing it more than your typical photo ops and also be willing to defend the production issues.

I believe if you cant handle the heat in that type of business than you need to get a spokesperson to be with you 24/7 and speak on your behalf. I think Tina is conflicted in a way. Dereon is a mid to high end brand. High end from a prue demographic perspective doesn’t automatically denote Black, unless you target race and location and income ie NYC, ATL, DC, etc).

I don’t think she’s thought about and articulated who this label is for. I have friends who rave about their jeans, but some of the fit is by pure luck. I think she’s scared to admit that when you go plus size (and high end plus size is sometimes size 12 and up)you also lose status and prestige from the industry.

I think she needs to go back the marketing plan board.

Also I don’t feel like she’s deeply committed to this company. B and she are the face. But I don’t feel like she slaving away with the concepts–cause she wouldn’t take a fair question as some type of diss on the street or personal attack.

And this kind of behavior may be her downfall.

Kimora Simmons has a different level of dedication. You can tell she gets up most mornings and goes to the office and is highly engaged in the product offerings. Beyonce shouldn’t be required to do that. But Tina should. And I don’t feel that from her.

I remember a while back, there was a story about Foxy Brown wanting to develop a line of expensive furs. I’d like to say that Puffy or Jay (not certain) advised her to design for the masses, not for the elite.

B said that she wanted to design a line for the teens. I pull a pretty nice salary, but I would not say that her line is priced for even me.

I will pay premium for a brand that I can wear for years, and perhaps send to consignment - but this line belongs in the Brass Plum line for Nordstroms. Overpriced, Overhyped Underdelivered.

While we can’t say exactly what would’ve happened if we had been in that situation that Tina was in, I think it’s fair to say that many of us have been caught in a situation where someone has asked us a question in a professional setting that has caught us off guard. I do think Tina could’ve handled it much better than that. No one was asking her if they use fur in their line or any other controversial question. It is her line so she should answer for it. She really could’ve given a generic statement about realizing the problem in sizing and working on it.

as a fashion major, i can explain the whole error in the clothing ordeal:

in a sense, Mama Crypt wouldnt have control over the sizing, more or less its the folk that handles the whole production of the clothes. 10 times out of 10 (haha, yeah) they had them clothes sewn over there in china. and like anything, the clothes in the production got screwed and nobody double checked the outfits.
and if and when they DID checked it (the folks who handles HOD production)..when they confronted the asians about it, them asians over the slaved asians sewing it prolly cussed the HOD folk out telling them that there’s nothing wrong with the clothes and to deal with it (cuz alot of them put more of the blame on the creator, NOT the sewing production line).. after all, house of dereon and them are only being charged $5 per outfit made (YES thats how cheap an outfit can run through production in 3rd world countries, same with shoes)

so yeah, mama crypt couldve easily said “i will have my people look more into it and fix this ASAP” instead she wanted the news to edit her and made her seem like this HOD stuff is the new black..

Interestingly enough, Beyonce and her mother were interviewed by the consumer reporter. If you watch TV news, consumer reporters almost exclusively report on scams and consumer problems. Usually for a 30 second soundbite, a general assignment reporter will report on something like a celebrity store opening. It looked to me like the reporter’s intent was to investigate complaints about sizing issues on some HOD clothes. The question wasn’t about sizes available, it was a question about clothing not fitting properly in the sizes already available.
Although Beyonce is a black celeb, when has she said this is a line for just black folks? Not everyone makes their clothing in plus sizes, though many of the “urban labels” do. Sean, the female line of Sean John does not. Diddy sold his line in upscale stores like Neiman Marcus, used white models and high price points and nobody paid it any mind. If you go to any department store, plus sizes are in a separate area altogether. Most brands catering to the young, hip audience that HOD does have the same size runs. Many lines are high-priced and jeans in particular outside of juniors are now going for upwards of $200. Even Lane Bryant Seven jeans are over $70. Most of the urban brands are “affordable” I guess if you think $70 jeans and $50 shirts are affordable for the teenagers that they appeal to. For grown women, HOD price points are not out of line with what similar non-urban brands offer in stores in women’s sizes.
Tina could have handled the question better, but it looks like they were expecting to do a generic publicity interview and got something else. Most artists, especially of Beyonce’s stature, are told precisely what the interview is going to be about beforehand. That’s why Tina looked back, probably at the publicist, like WTF? I guarantee you, the journalist had and agenda here. Tina and Matthew were running businesses before they had Beyonce. If that was Tina’s hair salon on the line, she might have learned to respond just that way to keep her business running.

As far as Beyonce, I’m sure at 25 she will eventually have her “Control” moment or just retire. She may like her family and friends shielding her from shit. Otherwise she’d have to deal with all of the negative energy instead of focusing on her craft. But also what do you expect? This is a girl who has been trained from a young age, who came through the pageant system and is trying to handle a huge career as well as live her life. This kind of scrutiny and negativity is what drove Lauryn Hill out of the business. It seems that having restraint, class, success and not falling into the usual ghetto patterns is really hard for some folks to take. I went to purchase some of the clothing line when they first came out trying to support B and buy clothes that are made for cury women. I normally where about a size 7 . My waist is 28.5 inches and hips about 43 inches. I Could not fit any of the pants even the ones that strech. I was so dissapointed. I have my resevation about the line even with the re-launch, it seems that the price got jacked up by about 60 bucks or so, which is no big deal cause 7 for all man kinds cost about 150 or so. I looked on the website and the pants go up to a size 34. I will go buy her pants if they fit, of course B’s pants are going to fit, her momma made them for her .

If you think the journalist asked the question to make Tina feel bad, you don’t know what a press sonference is. I have to say that I disagree that House of Dereon should not be held responsible IF they are not sizing ALL customers (#3). That was the most awful interview i have ever seen! tina seems very ignorant. she should have used that chance to address the problem that some of the stores are having with their line. i am a fan of Bey and her music but after that interview and actually going to the website to view their clothing, i know that i would never buy something from them. i probably wouldnt wear it if is was free, because from what i saw, they wouldnt fit! beyonce should know better than to have skinny-minny chicks modeling some clothes that are meant to include all of us. there are no thick chicks, no booty, no hips, on itty-bitty b****es. its ridiculous! i wouldnt dare try to fit my booty in those clothes!

I just watched the video. First off, the Knowles family is a lying family. Their imagae is very important to them. For all ya’ll waiting on Bee to show her true colors..Good Luck! Beyonce is there because the whole clothing line exists to celebrate three generations of a love of fashion and design. (Hence the motto, couture, kick soul) Three generations obviously including Beyonce, i agree she obviously is helping the line massively because of her fame but thats not the only reason she is there.
The reason she is seen as fake is because she is protecting herself from the cruelty of the press that have ruined the careers and lives of so many talented stars before her. She does this by holding back. The way she is professionally is no doubt different to what she’s like in private, just like the way everyone else is at they job-they different when they round friends and family.
I do agree that it is quite expensive and restricted to certain sizes but that may all be for a reason.
Beyonce is beautiful, talented, elegant, classy, humble and one of the few women who are using their position to empower women in a positive way.

I simply believe that black women should be taking movie roles that do not just show our big butts. If you have something to say about them then make some suggestions. I truly believe in supporting African-American women in their career endeavors. I purposely purchase products from the House of Dereon to support African-American business. I am also in the process of seeking out African-American investment firms to manage my hard-earned cash. I think that Gabrielle Union was coooold blooooded when she came out with the UCLA degree. She’s so articulate and intelligent. Angela Bassett is another cold blooded lady. I shock people all day long in my corporate office with how smart I am. That bothers me. I ask: “why are you so surprised?”. They proceed to tell me that all they see is black girls with big booties on music videos. Well, those women are career models/actresses, not prostitutes–many, articulate and well-educated. Come to think of it, one of the only intelligent black women they will allow to speak intelligently in public is on TV from 3PM to 4PM-OPRAH. In addition, It doesn’t help that the media focuses its attention on ONLY a pretty face. If you are black and you use a word that exceeds 5 letters, its “CUT!!” time. Can’t outshine the blonde-haried and blue-eyed! It happens in CORPORATE AMERICA…IT HAPPENS IN THE ENTERTAINMENT INDUSTRY TOO!! The men do not want to be challenged by us and the women do not want to be outsmarted by us. This is the New Plantation…The New Racism…Our New Battle has been presented to us. I highly doubt that we will fail.
