Last night, I attended “The List,” a party thrown by celebrity stylist, Fadia Kader and celebrity and fashion publicist Nicole Garner at the Hush VIP Lounge in Atlanta. The celebration was in honor of Janelle Monae and Scar being featured on the OutKast “Idlewild” album. It was a really great night! These are some pictures I took at the event. Enjoy!

Funny I just had someone today tell me I should stop growing dreads to attract more men. Well, hell to the naw…it took me too long to grow this shit to this point so I’m going all the way. If I’m intimidating or whatever or men don’t like locks then I guess that’s that, cause that’s who I am today.

I wear my hair natural and I in no way try to put those who do not down. Hair certainly does not define the person. I hate it when SOME women generalize ALL women who wear naturals. We aren’t all the same, so please don’t categorize us. This issue was actually addressed in the hair product post. You will understand more if you read up on that.
You guys should check out the link I posted earlier. She looks cute with the afro look. I don’t care for the pulled back hairstyle either. Looking at that pic, I too would think she needs to at least put a blowdryer, flat iron, or straightening comb to it to straighten that out! lol But you can only do you, so instead I say rock on girl.
Just as naturals aren’t for everyone, neither are perms. I know that you were just voicing your opinions and that is exactly what they are. No better, no worse than anyone elses.

Obviously, Janelle Monae has embraced the fact that she is not her hair. She can wear her hair anyway she wants to. If she doesn’t wont to assimilate by putting chemicals in her hair then she doesn’t have. She looks fine just the way she is. I’m done the relaxer andI have done the natural thing is a matter of personal preference – to each his own.
One more thing, Black folks kill me. Most of us get so pissed when a person of another race makes a negative comment about our race. Yet we have no qualms about tearing each other down. I think my friend said it best – crabs in a barrel.

I wore a perm and I am currently wearing locs.
When I had a perm-people with naturals constantly put me down, and now with my locs, people with perms constantly put me down. It’s a no win situation…
Let the girl be natural…but just get a better style. There are lots of styles you can wear with the natural look. I went natural for about 4 years, it’s so much upkeep. I said to hell wit it and went back to my perm…

get my hair blowdried on occasions to achieve the straight look but not often cuz the heat does damage as well. But I love going to the gallery to get my braids, cornrows,and sewn-in weaves as well. I just feel like over the years due to chemicals your hair will sooner or later your hair will have breakage, thin out, bald, or have to wear wigs cuz it won’t grow anymore…..but hey who am I it’s just my opinion.
