Snoop Dogg: “He really got it cracking to the point to where it don’t seem like a niggas was out of his range,” Snoop said. “It seemed like something that he was naturally born to do and that’s when I welcomed him to the game, being the king of the West, you know what I’m saying? He got my blessing as far as from the rap style of it, the rap side of it. Anybody got a problem with Black Ty come see me..”

Method Man: “I was pleasantly motherfuckin surprised, His swagger is crazy,” says Method Man. He told AllHipHop.com after hearing the mixtape. “I ain’t know son could rhyme and shit, but I should’ve known. Niggas should give him a second look on this motherfuckin rap tip.

DJ S&S compares Black-Ty’s desire to excel to previous rap rookies turned fixtures Jay-Z and DMX.

DJ S&S: “This kid got that hunger just like that. It’s crazy to see him have that hunger like that because you look at him as an R&B artist,” S&S said. “He wants people to understand what he’s going through, but there’s going to be a lot of people that doubt him.”

  1. nASIR

its pretty good, and this is a good look for concrete loop

    andddddddddd

  2. L•O•V•E

No offense. But um…Who’s anticipating this cd besides Tyrese?

  3. JAMES DEAN

Yo i heard this mixtape already. All I can say is this nigga is not fuckin around son… I sware i’m from Washington DC and I read on EUR that he had a free download of this mixtape online i jumped on it quick… Yo on somereal shi.. I feel the nigga more as a MC than I do a R&B nigga,,.. Ain’t nothing out there right in hip hop.. Thats why when these legends decide to put another album out everyone flock to the store cause there ain’t no real hip hop.. (Laffy taffy) What is that son.. black ty i’m with you my nigga for real.. My question to you is.. Are you lookin for acts to sign to your label?? Cause you got mad companies under on roof.. And also.. How are you gonna get people pass this image of you with water drippin on you and shirtless and all that sexy shit to really have them take you serious as a MC??? Dean one!

  4. Brooke

My man always hates on Tyrese because I have this crush on him. But even he said he was Surprised that His rhyming skills is on point. My man is a dj and he even said he’d play it in the clubs…

  5. Brooke

Oh and I heard some of these joints already too #3

  6. Lo

Why am I so excited about this? I love Tyrese: actor, singer, rapper, sexy ass black man….whatever!!! Downloading now, will post again once I’ve listened!

Thanks Tyrese and Angel.La for making my day!!!

  7. even tho I prefer Tyrese as a singer..he is on point wit his rappin. The nigga sound better than most of the wack ass “chain hangin low” “chicken noodle soupin” “lean wit it rock wit it” rappers

KEEP DOIN YA THANG SEXUAL CHOCOLATE!!!!!!!!

  8. Carrington in Houston

I don’t see why he should have a problem with people taking him seriously with a “sexy” image… people take other artist with sexy images seriously… if you got it, work WITH it – why dumb down who you are to appeal to people? We can’t have it both ways… we won’t take certain artist seriously or give them their props BECAUSE they’re not what fickle people find “sexy”… now certain people won’t be taken seriously because they ARE?? Either we’re gonna walk the horse or ride it.

If people don’t buy your music because you have a nice body, an attractive face, or both… then those aren’t the people who are concerned with that records content anyway. Why should only bad built, unattractive mf’s who DON”T take care of their bodies be the only ones taken seriously?

  9. Brooke

LOL Thats TRUE #8! Its like if you good looking you gotta be a pretty boy rapper like Chingy, LL or Nelly. (Nothing wrong with them brothers at all)…Its just that the labels be tryna make you sell a certain image.

Thats why I loves Common. He’s a clean cut, good looking man and his rhymes are not dumbed down, ya know? Lyrics have some positive content.

  10. Tbaby77

Hey I am really surprised no offense but I always thought Tyrese was born to sing but now I see Black Ty was born to rhyme. I am from the old school of hip hop so it is very refreshing to hear some actual lyrics on a new cd. I really don’t have any questions for Black Ty but I do want to wish him much success in his new venture.

  11. DaTruth

@7 I agree with you. I listened to the mixtape and liked it he is better than a lot of MC’s out there.
I am curious to hear his double album.

  12. dg1234

I was VERY skeptical about this but it is pretty good. Sounds much better than most of the bullshit on the radio. When you hear complete foolishness like “Chicken Noodle Soup” coming from Harlem anything can give you hope. Real Hip-Hop please come back I MISS YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  13. Come yall, ask some questions and post your favorite tracks. Tyrese is really going to read this and answer the questions.

  14. carolinawhenyouspeak

So I’m sitting at work listening to this mix tape, right? And I don’t normally listen to too much “rap” because it’s mostly bull*ish. But this right here, this is fiyah!!! I’m listening to the lyrical content, I’m bobbing my head. Hell, I even have to get up and clock out right now because my damn panties got wet!!! What a range to have Stevie Wonder and Eric (your career is Tupac spelled backwards) Sermon bless your tracks. I’m feeling this. I could deal without having to hear “nigga” so much. But otherwise, I’m digging it. Love Tyrese/Love Black Ty

  15. Dannie

I can’t download it because I am at school…but I will be checking it out when I get home! However, I agree with #8…artists need to stay true to themselves and stop trying to please the whole damn world, because you can’t!!! The music industry just seem so fake right now!

I Love me some Tyrese Gibson…whatever he ventures out to do is fine with me, just as long as he doesn’t stop singing R&B! (Which would be my question Angel La)

I wouldn’t mind seeing his sexy ass in some more movies also….BABY BOY was my shit! LOL!

    Peace

  16. carolinawhenyouspeak

As far as favorite tracks, I love Give it to Me Girl, Capricorn, Change the World, The Storm, Ink My Pen. This seems so natural for Black Ty. You can tell this is not contrived. During the Kayslay interview, he states that he’s been “waiting for the opportunity for this to come out.” Hell I remember seeing his ass on that bus with that Coke and that beautiful ass smile years ago. He’s been established for so long now. I’d like to hear him speak on his timing. Black Ty could have come back out years ago. Why now? Was he waiting for a void in the rap game that he could fill? Or did he just wake up one morning and say, “Today’s the Day”?

  17. A*City

Tyrese I came into the download thinking you would be WACK and I was going to reply that you should RELEASE ANOTHER R&B ALBUM!! However, YOU KILLED IT!! I mean the flow was original and you brought Jay-Z back to the hood and I loved that. You brought your A game and shined dude. I’m glad that Jay-Z and Pac didn’t run the whole song and you were able to shine, I was able to notice your voice, Jay-Z’s and Pac’s which was a real good look, some rappers get lost when they featured other rappers on their songs. And you weren’t just bitches, fucking, I’m a hood nigga on the record, you actually said things that meant something and will probably mean something to a lot of people. Lastly, I hope you find your own voice and don’t try and imitate the norm, everything doesn’t have to be hood, everything doesn’t have to be I’m a G this, this song wasn’t all that, so I’m looking forward to the full package. I’ll get back with that review and questions!!

  18. Serena

I like the beat …was that Jay i heard on there as well?? otherwise it was good 3.5/5

  19. uhuh

Please, Tyrese, stick to singing. In fact why don’t you use the energy you found to right lyrics for your rap career and put them into the songs for your singing career.

The lyrics I like, but the flow is weak. Give me Common, Dead Prez, Lupe Fiasco, the roots, or mos def.

  20. serious?

THIS NIGGA IS FOR REAL… WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!
MY QUESTION IS.. WHY YOU KILLIN THESE NIGGAS OUT HERE LIKE THIS BLACKTY????? WOOOOOOOOOOW!!!!!! I CAN’T BELIEVE MY EARS… I SWARE MY NIGGA I BEEN YOUR BIGGEST HATER… NOW I’M YOUR BIGGEST PROMOTER!!! I SENT LIKE 60NIGGAS THAT ARE DJ’S A EMAIL LETTIN EM KNOW IF THEY WANT THAT CRACK GO TO http://www.HeadQuarterEntertainment.com

wow thats all i can say is wow… And I got the artowrk too?? Oh nigga im about to do what it do baby!!!

  21. carolinawhenyouspeak

    @ #20

Maybe you should put some energy into learning how to “write”.

  22. Mona

I really respect Tyrese as an artist ..he is a great actor ..he is intense and real in his roles ..I give lots of props to him …Im feelin track 6 .Get Cake with u and Cassidy …I see nothing wrong on what you are doing because so many rappers try to get their feet into acting and singing so its all good ..plus I know you have been rapping way before you started singing and acting ..Damn and I see you got alot of collabos with other rappers so obvisiouly you must be doing something right …I wish you much success to you ..All I see is in your future is you getting better and better…

  23. serious?

ALL I CAN SAY IS WOOOOOOOOW!!!!! UHUH YOUR STIPPIN.. YOU MUST BE 50 AND UNDER A ROCK THIS SHIT IS CRAZZZZZZZYYYYY!!!!! LISTEN TO THE WHOLE THINGS NOT JUST THE 2PAC JOINT DIDN’T YOU R E A D THE INSTRUCTIONS????? LOL… CRACK MUSIC!! WOOOOOOOOOOW!!! KEEP GOIN PIMPIN KEEP GOING… CAUSE OF THIS MIXTAPE AND BABYBOY I KNOW YOU FROM WATTS NOW… HA HA!!

  24. i’m not a hip-hop head or nuthin, but i do recognize true lyricism. i LOVE (i mean, LOVE..)tyrese, but i’m feelin’ black ty as well.

    tracks that stick out:
-get cake ft. cassidy–besides the fact that beat is CRAZY, black ty’s flow is sick on this one.
-change the world–one of my favorites, of course this is a track for the ladies to playback.
-goodnite–that dude curtains is HOT. he got that swagger….
-don’t get me confused–if it wasn’t that trey songz beat, this would DEFINITELY be single material. tyrese is gettin’ that hook, but where is black ty’s bars?
-beat the system–i like the messages behind the lyrics, it’s real…

overall, the rest of the mixtape kinda ran together for me–honestly just a lot of big talking, not to say it’s not true. i guess it would be nice to hear a lil more depth or storyline–but this is a mixtape–i can respect the format. but BLACK TY is doing his thang.

  25. what cha know

I work in the same building as Headquarters Entertainment & The Underdogs and i think there were copies of this mixtape in the security office like n Aug. I picked it up cause it said that song he did with Chingy on it and i wanted and there was also some Glen Lewis (song who is also on Black Ty’s little label) on there to. Well the Chingy song wasn’t on there and so i got mad & didnt bother with the rest of the cd.

Maybe i’ll listen to it when i get home…actually i dont think i even know where it is…maybe they got some more downstairs…anyway..I’ll comment on the actual mixtape later

But tell Tyrese don’t be acting brand new in the parking lot.

  26. kendall

Mr Tyrese will not sell too good here at Fort Hood,Texas since he was a no-show for a performance this past Saturday night(23 Sept). If you can’t come to show your support for the soldiers then you don’t need us supporting your music.

  27. kwy8storm

I’m from LA and when I first heard about Black Ty, I was like oh here we go again. A singer trying to be a rapper, but I have to say I was pleasantly suprised. I’m feeling
CHANGE THE WORLD and GET CAKE. So here’s my questions.

    - Do u feel you’ll be excepted or taken seriously in the rap game?
    - Do u feel you’ll lose your R&B audience?
    - If your mixtape is very successful, would you stop recording R&B records?
    - What was your frame of mind when you went into the studio to record this cd?
    - Does this mean you won’t be taking off your shirt anymore???? (smile) Please say no !!!!

    Much luv and success

  28. DaTruth

    I just have 1 question?

How will you feel if the hip Hop Community doesn’t respect you as a rapper or see you as another talentless MC?

  29. kwy8storm

    More questions.

    - What was everyone’s reaction when u told them about the whole Black Ty and rap cd? Was your label supportive at first?
    - Do u feel the artist u collaborated with were doing it because your the homie Ty or because they truly felt u had lyrical skills and staying power?

  30. Heh, this is pretty exciting. CL’s really on the come-up.

Anyway, I just got the mixtape, about to listen to it. Comments coming soon.

  31. L•O•V•E

I find it funny that most of the people in here are giving him praise. It Must be some of the members from his family. lol

  32. Dj E/ Thugsta

Str8 BANGER. got this a few months back…. Black Ty is Hot. dat nigga be killin it.

  33. Diana

So B got Sasha and Tyrese got Black-ty. I wonder who is next. Good look on he exclusive Angel.

  34. L•O•V•E

I’m listening now and shit is wack, seriously. I am no rap fan but this shit is lame. What is he bringing to the game besides what’s out there now? This sounds like some lil Bow Wow shit. And we all know he can’t rap. It’s the same old’ shit. Jealousy, bitches, money, and cars. We already have enough rappers talking about that. Give me something worth listening too.

  35. L•O•V•E

I’ll stop being negative. I’ll give Tyrese his props. If they can do you can too. I wish you the best of luck.

  36. L•O•V•E

    Typo! I got “it”?

  37. ???

not feeling it. can’t please everyone.

  38. Jennifer

My favorite track is definitely track 19 Beat the System. I like listening to tracks that say something about issues, current events and are conscience.

Overall, I was surpised by Black Ty’s rapping skills. I think I’m split though on the material. I could do without all the N-words, describing explicit sex acts, etc. I feel rap need to go back to talking about real material like Pac, Biggie and Nas. Yet, with your current material trust you will sell millions because it doesn’t take much to get ahead in the rap game, and you’re way better than those “Laffy Taffy,” “Oh, I think they like me,” and other crap.

1.) There are other artists that have been hugely successful crossovers like Missy (Rap/Sing) and Andre 3000(Rap/Sing) so, why do you think you will have more trouble crossing over than they did?

2.) How hard was it for you to push this idea to your record company to do a double album with both R&B and Rap?

3.) Nas says that Hip Hop is dead, and I agree with that statement. Currently, there is just too much commericalism and records are just being produced for money & sells. What do you want to bring to the rap game?

  39. Tracey

    REVIEW
I like it; I dig what you’re doing. I didn’t expect Tyrese to say nigga, motherfucker, but I guess that’s rap, however I hope that’s not what you become. Just because your are “Black Ty” you don’t have to lose “Tyrese”, yet that may just be you, then I guess it’s aight. Listening it began to sound like every other rap, hip-hop artist, I mean you being you, you had your own flavor, but most of the beats sounded like any other “real” rapper out there, lyrics-wise, you didn’t thing. You have better rap lyrics than your R&B lyrics on past projects. This being a mix tape its okay, but when you release an album, less features, have the debut be about you. I like that you didn’t have a lot of “Tyrese” and it’s just “Black Ty”, you didn’t try to rope in fans of your singing, trying to cross them over onto “Black Ty”. You definitely found your niche, you didn’t try to do some much on one record, and you stuck to a certain beat style and lyric content which brung everything together and made everything flow. Appealing to the mass of course you need a club banger, but it’s about what you wanna do and what kind of artist you want to be, there are definite songs that can be released as single, well maybe just two or three. In my opinion this is really good mix tape material, collectively not a good album. As I said everything blended together, but there just needs to be a little more originality and Black Ty in the production ONLY!! Everything else (i.e. flow and lyrics are GREAT)!! Better beats, I mean an instrument or two won’t hurt either. So I big you up Black Ty, do ya thing!!

    QUESTIONS
    1) What are you doing this now? Is this going to be a substitute to you singing or will you do R&B again?
    2) Do you feel that you have to appeal by being hood? It could have been who you were and it’s just coming out to us since your Black Ty?

  40. Carrington in Houston

No way on fukkin EARTH, I would put on a Tyrese “rap” cd and take that bullshit seriously…

Fast forward, September 2006… not only did I put it on, but I BOUGHT it! LITERALLY – I totally BOUGHT it. This mf pulled this shit off, how? I don’t know how, but I’m jealous like a MF cause this dude can sing like a mf, can act, got EVERYBODY’s woman feenin, now he got flows too… This is some bullshit (and life is so unfair)

Ty – u did that shit babyboi… you did that!

  41. Tracey

    correction

    1) Why are you doing this now? Is this going to be a substitute to you singing or will you do R&B again?

  42. ???

What is he bringing to the game besides what’s out there now? This sounds like some lil Bow Wow shit. And we all know he can’t rap. It’s the same old’ shit. Jealousy, bitches, money, and cars. We already have enough rappers talking about that. Give me something worth listening too.

    ——————————-

The way mofos were hyping that stuff up I thought it was on some whole ‘nother level. and the overuse of N and B are very ignorant. i’ve been a fan of his (rnb) voice for a while, but i gotta be honest, while his rapping is decent (a little better than bow wow i’ll give him that), the content ain’t all dat, i don’t like it. i’ll stick to Common and Black Thought.

  43. Okay I just finished listening to it. So you want our HONEST opinions & here is mine:

    - They’re is nothing that distingushes your style or flow from any one elses. I think you do have talent, but they’re nothing that is just blowing me away. I listened to the songs, but i cant think of on hot line that I remembered. That’s important. You need that one line in every song that people don’t forget…that’s missing.

    - You need better producers. I know this is a mix tape so I understand that. But all of the beat were underwhelming. They did you no justice.

    - Too much Nigga, nigga, nigga. I’m a hip hop fan and I listen to rap, but personally I’m over the gangsta sh*t as are a lot of other hip hop fans. I’d like it if your song were a little more clever and took “gansta” to another level. Know what I mean?

    - Your a better singer than rapper, but I can hear your heart in your rapping more than I can singing so I wish you the best. Good luck!

    Questions?

    - did you always want to be a rapper?
    - what inspires your music?
    - what producers would you like to work with?
    - what’s your biggest fear?
    - who’s your new favorite rapper out right now?
    - How old are you? You don’t seem to age?

  44. ??? I guess me and you were sorta on the same page

  45. ???

Yes “Chillin in NY”. And I hate to say this cos Ty has talent, but I’m disappointed. this is not hating this is constructive criticism. I agree with everything you typed.

  46. L•O•V•E

I agree with you ???. I don’t want people mistaken what I’m saying for hating. I was really being honest. Sorry it was so blunt.

  47. Ok…

I agree 100% with everything Chillin In NY said. Tyrese, I’ve been a fan of yours since you first came out…but stick to singing. It’s not that you’re not talented, because I have heard worse. But, I don’t understand your desire to transition to rap. To be completely honest, you’re not bringing anything new to the rap industry.

The production was only so-so (I know it was a mixtape, but still…). The lyrics weren’t bad, but they weren’t catchy, either. One thing I didn’t like period was all the Niggas Niggas Niggas and overly descriptive sex. To be honest, it was a little over the top and made you sound like you had something to prove instead of sincere. It sounded forced, and really corny.

Overall, it wasn’t a complete waste of my time. It didn’t “suck.” Just don’t expect to be taken seriously as a rapper. Overall, you just don’t come across as genuine, and your work isn’t very original. You’re a much better singer, anyway. Use this time to work on your vocals and lyrics. Because I want another Tyrese album, “Black Ty” I can live without.

–What do you feel you can offer to hip-hop as a rapper?

–A major criticism of hip-hop currently is how superficial it has become. Do you honestly feel that you will help to change this idea? or just contribute to it?

–No offense meant by this, but some may feel that your attempt to break into rap may be due to the fact that your last few R&B albums, well, didn’t do so well. What is your response to that?

  48. Island_Girl-Bri

Ok these are my thoughts about it…

    - As a few others said, i listen to rap and everything but I DEFINTELY could have done without the overuse of all the explicit words, sexual acts etc…

-None of the songs really stood out for me, as ‘chillin in ny’ said, i also cant think of a hot line that was unforgettable

    - In my opinion, i dont see the ”deepness” others were talking about in alot of the tracks..i may have overlooked it and may be mistaken, but it was basically similar to what’s out now- sexin women, bling, cars, who’s ”flow is tighter” etc…Well with the exception of ‘Beat the system,’ ‘The storm’ and ‘Why?’ those were nice tracks

-The songs were basically sayin the same thing but in different ways; ”i dont give a f*** about yall niggas” ”Your girl wants me” ”Ima change this rap game” and so forth..

-The beats could have been better but its a mixtape so it’ll do

However, i will say that i like your delivery and you’re better than some rappers out now, My favourite song was ‘Change the world’…You got my support! Hopefully the cd will be a banger, good luck!

    My questions:

    1) In relation to hip hop, who are some of your biggest inspirations, and why?

    2) Do you think coming into the rap game will help to draw male attention to your musical skills singing or rap wise?

    3) Under which circumstances would you ‘retire’ from the rap game and stick to singing, if any?

    4) What do you think the rap game needs right now, and do you think your contribution can improve it drastically?

    5) You worked with various persons on the mixtape, what advice did they offer, and who would you like to work with in the future?

    6) How did your family/friends/associates react to the introduction of ‘Black Ty’

    7) What are your thoughts on all the ‘rap beef’ happening now? For example, a while ago the famous beef between Jay-Z and Nas got settled but Fat Joe strongly disagreed with the truce, claiming he would not have done the same…Do you agree or disagree?

    8) Which rappers do you listen to right now? Who in your opinion is the best rapper; dead or alive?

    9) Im guessing this would be a hard decision, but if you had to choose, Rap or R&B?

    10) What is one thing that rapping ‘allow’ you to do that singing doesnt? E.g. Get ‘gangsta’ and grimey as opposed to the usual serenading of women on your R&B tracks..

    On a lighter note..

    11) What are some places you’d like to visit, or even perform at?

    12) What is one of your weakness/motivation?

Thats all for now, Laterz! :P

  49. RAY

well since you said you won’t my honest opinion i’m really disapointed…what happend to the tyrese we knew who was about love..and heartbreak..and last but not least sexual.don’t we have enough “thugs” in the music industry as it is ?? don’t get me wrong i love “HIP-HOP” but some people just need to focus on what they’re good at instead of bandwagon..bubblegumpop bull sh–t.i’m really looking forward to your R&B album.

  50. relle

Feelin the black Ty movment..its lookin real good for him..1

  51. WOW WHAT MORE CAN I SAY… BLACK TY IS THAT SHIT I WAS ALREADY LOVING TYRESE AS A R&B ARTIST BUT NOW THAT HE DONE FLIPPED THE SCRIPT ON THESE BIRD ASS NIGGAS YOU CAN REALLY SEE HOW FAR HIS TALENT STRETCHES. WHEN I FIRST WENT TO DOWNLOAD THIS CD I WAS EXPECTING SOMETHING SORRY BECAUSE RAP JUST AINT WHAT IT USED TO BE BUT I WAS SURPRISED ONCE I REALLY LISTENED TO IT. MY QUESTION TO BIG TYE IS; AS A FAN OF HIP HOP IN GENERAL I APPRECIATE GOOD MUSIC, BUT I ENJOY AN ARTIST THAT CARES ABOUT HIS COMMUNITY EVEN MORE. SO WHEN HURRICANE KATRINA HIT WHAT DO YOU DO TO LEND A HAD TO OUR BROTHERS AND SISTER THAT SUFFERED DOWN THERE AND WHAT TYPE OF CHARITIES DO YOU SUPPORT ON A REGULAR BASIS? THANKS FOR THE HOT MIX TAPE KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK TYRESE AKA BLACK TY IM LOOKING FORWARD TO HEARING YOU DROP SOME MORE HOT TRACKS.

  52. LOL

#55 how are we being close minded when it’s our opinions? To each is his own. Just because you are feeling his music does not mean I have too. I hate when someone says something ignorant just because you don’t agree. Alot people on this blog agree to many things. But I don’t.

    Movement/YEP!/Tyrese’s cousin :

Unless he’s paying your bills I don’t see why you’re so upset. You said it yourself, “opinions are like assholes, everyone got one”, so how about you accept other people’s opinions?

Ur mixtape sounds like: bla bla bla bla. Come on mehn..dig deep into ur mind or ur heart like u do when ur singing to the ladies man. it would’ve been ill if u would have used the fact that ur a singer turned rapper as the platform to being that rnb sincerity to hip hop. I feel u on thses other dudes that rap, but ur getting caught up in talking about them too much. Forget about em and focus on making songs about life.

My 2 cents. I respect u for trying tho.

I love it :) Although, I don’t think I imagined his flow to be the way it is.. I imagined a more smooth flow. Kind of like Common, or more Snoop Dogish?? Not sure how to discribe it :) But I love everything he Does! The Male Lauryn Hill.
