Ronald Isley, one of the legendary Isley Brothers, was sentenced to more than three years in prison Friday on five counts of federal income tax evasion.
Isley must report to the Federal Bureau of Prisons, where due to his health condition, he will most likely spend his time in a federal hospital, E! Online reported Saturday.
Isley had unpaid taxes between the years 1997 and 2002 on $3.1 million. U.S. District Judge Dean Pregerson in Los Angeles called the “Twist and Shout” crooner a “serial tax avoider.”
Isley’s attorney, Anthony Alexander, had argued that his client deserved probation due to his frail health, citing stroke he suffered two years ago and a recent battle with kidney cancer.
IRS agents said Isley, 65, who had pleaded “not guilty” on all counts last year, had assets in the millions at the time of his indictment and had gone to great lengths to hide them in different bank accounts and by signing them over to relatives [SOURCE].
I guess he really thought he wasn’t going to the slammer. He better twist, shout and pray he doesn’t get stuck in a “real” prison. You know some of those celebs get special treatment.

when if rst herd about him being in trouble a few yrs ago i was like, “omg thats horrble”, but when i read this story, and posted it on my blog erlier today (plug fi blog ends lol), i was like he deserves to go to jail!! he hasnt paid taxes since erly 70′s, he cashed cheks written out to his late brother, etc etc. let the guh’ment get their cut! (how do u think we pay for food stamps,welfare,medicaid,perks for senators, houses fi senators, vacations fi senators??)
i paid taxes for the first time a couple of yrs ago, and that was my first yr working!! i know he has cancer, and had a stroke, buh in the erly 70′s he didnt hav that shih!! he was jus greedy and wanted to keep his money!

But I have to admit, I am a big Isley Brothers fan(and I like Angela Winbush). In fact, I can tell all the songs that have been sampled by them. I’m in my twenties, but I like old school music more than the music today. Singers back in the day can actually sing!

As some of you may know, I just turned 18 but I have an old soul….I listen to “Twist and Shout” every single morning upon waking and in the evenings when I exercise… So this news did strike upon me feelings of despair pretty heavy, but I’ve known of his coming demise for some time now, and, though it is a blow to all of us old-school R&B lovers’ spirit, I must say that he deserved it.
I mean, come on, he hasn’t always been sick and they say he has been hiding his money and steering clear of uncle the disco days…He probably should get a longer sentence…This is why I am learning right now about the ins and outs of filing so that when I start paying taxes the clouds of suspicion from the auditors will hopefully miss me… I filled out my own FAFSA while still in high school and I pay my parents’ bills. I think fiscal responsibility is one of the most important lessons a young black person can learn.
Its gonna be Between the Sheets for Mr. Biggs… the prison sheets, that is…

Pay your taxes and this type of stuff wouldn’t happened. If I had money like he did, stuff like that would be a number #1 priority all the time. Bet his ass will take care of his business now when he get’s out.
Michael Bolton did pay up and then recently tried to buy Biggs’ catelogue when it came up for sale. How ironic would that have been? Despite all the money he made with Kellz he had trouble coming up enough dough to buy back his own catelogue (and no Kellz did not come to the rescue).
It’s been a tragedy a long time in the making. First with not being on top of his business and taking that Cadilac handshake in the fifties and sixties to a lot of inter-family drama in the seventies and eighties. That man’s money’s never been right. Just because you make (and l love his music) great music doesn’t excuse bad behavior.
Poor Angela, he really did a number on her. I hope she’s found some peace. Sides’ why’s anybody shocked that he threw over a good woman for jailbait when he runs around with Kellz molestin’ ass. You’d think after all the times he’s been burned over scratch he’d want to make sure his golden years were set if at the very least for the sake of the child he’s bringing to this earth. I think more of this resulted in his request for payment in cash for gigs and collecting/spending royalties on a dead sibling-when that money should go to the estate (kids etc)-than the actual failure to pay taxes. I think somebody got on the horn and dialed 1800-im-tellin. (there is an 800 number like this in the irs.)
I think he pissed someone off and the “serialness” of tax avoidance goes into really suspect behavior.

Ok there have been plenty of celebs who have been charged with tax evasion, BUT how many have received actual jail time? Does anyone think that there is a connection between Mr Bigg’s treatment and his strong friendship with our guy RKelly? The man is 65, with health problems, a young wife, and a baby on the way. He’s lost his brother, and two of his accountants have died. Isn’t there another way? He does a lot for others and is a pillar for black music. What’s going on in real life?
