TRAGIC NEWS: REV RUN & JUSTINE LOSE BABY

If you watch MTV’s Run’s House, then you know Rev Run (Joseph Simmons) and Justine Simmons were expecting a child. Well, TMZ is reporting some tragic news…

A rapper’s wife gave birth Thursday, but the scene quickly turned to tragedy after their newborn girl was pronounced dead.

Rev Run, a.k.a. Joseph Simmons, shocked fans last year when he announced that his wife Justine was pregnant on his MTV reality show “Rev’s House.”

Justine’s pregnancy was the cliffhanger on the MTV show last season. It generated intense interest among viewers who have been anxiously following the pregnancy and awaiting the birth.

Simmons, a member of the legendary rap group Run DMC, was at Valley Hospital in Ridgewood New Jersey Tuesday for the birth of his child. Doctors delivered the baby via c-section, revealing a cruel twist of fate — the baby girl was born with organs outside the body. The newborn died a short time later.

TMZ has learned that MTV cameras were inside the hospital at the time of the birth, though we do not know if they were in the delivery room. [SOURCE]

My prayers go out to the whole Simmons family, at this horrible time.

Damn my spelling ain’t $hit today! LOL!

  2. Everybody it IS true. I have Vanessa Simmons as one of my friends on myspace and she posted 2 bulletins this morning that said :

Subject: We did lose the baby
Body: Some of you seem to already know my mom did lose the baby after delivery
this is a hard time for me and my family but we are coping with it throuh prayer and I just want to say thank you to my myspace family because thats what some of you have become to me. From thoes that i have met from here or had a phone convesation with yes i will go out on the lim and say i have met a few people. I really want to thank you on behalf of my family & myself.I had to address this to clarify for my family. We are all doing ok at this point we are to look forward and stay possitive. You know sometimes in life you never know how things might end up I heard about the story about Anna Nichole Smith she gave birth to her daughter and lost her son a few days later. My point is you never know what situation life may place you in put god first he is the key to the lock we call everyday life and know that everything happens for a reason… Thank you once again you are all appreciated have faith god bless…

Ask and it will be given to you, seek and you will find it, knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks the door will be opened.
    - Matthew 7:7-8

  3. The second bulletin says:

    Sep 27, 2006 6:42 AM
    Subject For thoes who asked!
Body: Ok just to clear this up a little. The baby was girl (my sister) she was born with her inner organs on the outside she was properly birthed and passed away minutes later. People before had been asking me questions about the baby’s sex i could not really say because that was suspose to be for the premiere of runs season house 3 is was suspose to pick up where it left off which is why the show went off without anybody being told what the gender was. The show was scheduled to premiere this later in the fall i’m not sure if it is or not thats the furthest thing from my dads mind right now i’m sure

  4. im_not_her

oh my God. Horrible. I really feel for them. Thanks Twinqui–you need your own blog girl.

  5. djviolet

Ok–so it’s true. Then why was her ass out partying after her sister died.

  6. Nikita

that is so sad. and what makes it even worst is that they wanted a girl.

  7. Lala

This is a scary and sooo sad. I was just telling my mom that there is a Reality TV curse. It seems like all the families break up or have some kind of drama or tragedy (examples, Nick and Jessica, Whitney and Bobby, etc). But I said that I am glad that Run and Justine haven’t had to go through all that and that they seem to have it together and that they will be the exception, not the rule. And Now this happens. This is like the Superman and Madden NFL curses. It hurt my heart when I read this. I am praying for them. But I can’t even imagine the despair they are going through.

I do also have questions why this wasn’t picked up on the Sonogram. They can usually see a lot, like Spinal Bifida and even holes in the babies heart. I hope this wasn’t a case of medical negligence. My thoughts and paryers are definately with them.

  8. djviolet

It’s not just a reality tv curse–it’s a VHI/MTV Curse–don’t forget that Merlin Santana and the dude from Moesha died after starring in the VHI movies about MC Hammer, etc.

  9. LadyMahogany

This saddens me,I know how much she wanted her girl.I love this family and my prayers go out to them.

  10. Dino

Danm, thats sad. I wonder would they even put the episode(Run’s House 3) out. How is a baby born with its organs outside the body? Thats the worst malfuction that can ever happen. This is horrible. What possibly went wrong. Rev Run’s(Joseph Simmons) is 41 and Justine’s is in her late 30′s pushin 40. Its normal for them to have a baby. I still don’t understand why MTV,BET,VH1,CNN,etc havent confirmed it yet.

  11. Dino

@ Lala) Reality TV is probably cursed.
Nick and Jessica,Whitney and Bobby,Carmen Electra and Dave Nivara, Flava Flav and Briggite Neilson, etc. I’m thinking of more.

  12. Nay

My heart goes out to the Simmons’ Family. They are such a beautiful family and through this time i do pray that they can keep their faith and call out to the Lord.

  13. mswing

this is so sad, ill be praying for them. the worst thing is going through the whole 9 months of pregnancy, everything happens for a reason tho, i hope they try and stay positive

  14. Ione

My prayers go out to the whole family. Man this is so sad and unfortunate.

  15. TK

Run released a statement today and said the baby’s name was Victoria Anne Simmons and that she unexpectedly came earlier (she was due in October). He sai Justine was doing well as she could be right now, as well as some other stuff reminiscent of those monologues he gives in the bathrub at the end of their show. The statement was by Run but released through an MTV rep today and can be found on Yahoo.

  16. applecake

I am so saddened to hear this, my prayers go out to the family!

  17. @ TWINQUI

I read those too!!! I don’t know about this story but if it is true I do send my deepest condolences their way. We all know how bad Justine wanted that girl and she got it but not the way she wanted it…but yea they all definitely in my prayers.

  18. oh man this is so tragic. i feel so sorry for justine. i cannot imagine the pain of losing a child, especially the little girl she has been longing for so long. my thoughts and prayers go out to the entire family. God and the CL family is here for you guys!

  19. Lala

In case some wanted to have a better understanding, I found this article about Omphalocele, which is what Run’s and Justine’s baby had. Pretty interesting. The thing it does say is that in mostly all cases this is detected by Sonogram. It’s so sad that unfortunately it was not in their case.

    What is an omphalocele?

An omphalocele is a birth defect, which is an abnormality that occurs before birth as a fetus is forming in its mother’s uterus. Some of the abdominal organs protrude through an opening in the abdominal muscles in the area of the umbilical cord. A translucent membrane covers the protruding organs.
The omphalocele may be small, with only a portion of the intestine protruding outside the abdominal cavity, or large, with most of the abdominal organs (including intestine, liver, and spleen) present outside the abdominal cavity. Further, the abdominal cavity itself may be small due to underdevelopment during pregnancy.

    What causes an omphalocele?

As a fetus is growing in the mother’s uterus before birth, different organ systems are developing and maturing. Between the 6th and the 10th weeks of pregnancy, the intestines actually project into the umbilical cord as they are growing. By the 11th week of development, the intestines should return to the abdomen. When the fetus is growing and developing during pregnancy, there is a small opening in the abdominal muscles that the umbilical cord can pass through, connecting the mother to the fetus. As the fetus matures, the abdominal muscles should meet in the middle and grow together, closing off this opening. An omphalocele occurs when the abdominal organs do not return to the abdominal cavity as they should.
It is not known what causes omphalocele. Steps that normally happen in the development of the abdominal organs and muscles simply did not happen properly. It is not known to be caused by anything the mother did during pregnancy.

Who is at risk for developing an omphalocele?

When an omphalocele is isolated (no other birth defects are present), the risk for it to happen in a future pregnancy is one percent or one in 100. There are some families that have been reported to have an omphalocele inherited as an autosomal dominant or X-linked recessive trait. In these cases, the chance for reoccurrence would be higher.
Many babies born with an omphalocele also have other abnormalities. The chance for reoccurrence depends upon the underlying disorder:

Thirty percent have a chromosomal (genetic) abnormality, most commonly Trisomy 13, Trisomy 18, Trisomy 21, Turner syndrome, or triploidy.
Some infants with omphalocele have a syndrome known as Beckwith-Wiedemann syndrome.
More than two-thirds of babies with omphalocele have abnormalities of other organs or body parts, most commonly the spine, digestive system, heart, urinary system, and limbs.

How often does an omphalocele occur?

A “small” type omphalocele (involving protrusion of a small portion of the intestine only) occurs in one out of every 5,000 live births. A “large” type omphalocele (involving protrusion of the intestines, liver, and other organs) occurs in one out of every 10,000 live births. Omphalocele occurs relatively equally in boys and girls.

Why is an omphalocele a concern?

Since some or all of the abdominal organs are outside the body, infection is a concern, especially if the protective membrane around the organs breaks. Also, an organ may lose its blood supply if it becomes pinched or twisted. A loss of blood flow can damage the affected organ.

    How is an omphalocele diagnosed?

Omphalocele can often be detected on fetal ultrasound in the second and third trimesters of pregnancy. A fetal echocardiogram (ultrasound of the heart) may also be done to check for heart abnormalities before the baby is born.
After birth, the omphalocele can be noted by the physician during the physical examination. X-rays (diagnostic tests which use invisible electromagnetic energy beams to produce images of internal tissues, bones, and organs onto film) may also be done after birth to evaluate abnormalities of other organs or body parts.

    Treatment for an omphalocele:

Specific treatment for an omphalocele will be determined by your baby’s physician based on the following:

your baby’s gestational age, overall health, and medical history
    the extent of the condition
your baby’s tolerance for specific medications, procedures, or therapies
expectations for the course of the condition
    your opinion and preference

For a “small” omphalocele (only a portion of the intestine protruding outside the abdominal cavity), shortly after birth, an operation is done to return the organs to the abdomen and close the opening in the abdominal wall.
For a “large” omphalocele (most of the abdominal organs, including intestine, liver, and spleen are present outside the abdominal cavity), the repair is done in “stages” and may include the following:

Initially, sterile, protective sheeting is placed over the abdominal organs.
Because the abdomen may be small and underdeveloped, it may not be able to hold all of the organs at once. Therefore, the exposed organs are gradually moved back into the abdomen over several days or weeks.
The abdominal wall is closed surgically once the organs have been returned to the abdominal cavity.

Because the abdominal cavity may be small and underdeveloped, and the organs may be swollen, a baby with an omphalocele may have breathing difficulties as the organs are returned to the abdomen. Your baby may need help from a breathing machine called a mechanical ventilator while the swelling is decreasing and the size of the abdominal cavity is increasing.

What is the long-term outlook for a baby born with an omphalocele?

Problems in the future often depend on:

    the size of the omphalocele.
if there was a loss of blood flow to part of the intestine or other organs.
    the extent of other abnormalities.

Babies who have damage to the intestines or other abdominal organs may have long-term problems with digestion, elimination, and infection.
Consult your baby’s physician regarding the prognosis

  20. @ I_AM_NOT_HER
Thanks! But no way I can compete with Angel.La and go thru all the stress of having my own blog. I didn’t want to believe this was true, but I really have to believe it now that I’ve read these latest posts and that bulletin from Vanessa.
    @ BonitaApplebum:
I’m glad I’m not the only one that read it. I didn’t want people thinking I made the whole thing up!

  21. im_not_her

“@ Lala) Reality TV is probably cursed.
Nick and Jessica,Whitney and Bobby,Carmen Electra and Dave Nivara, Flava Flav and Briggite Neilson, etc. I’m thinking of more. ”

WOW I didn’t even think of it like that..now the only couple left (who nobody black cares about is) that Kiss guy Gene Simmons and his long time live in girl friend with almost grown kids.

  22. im_not_her

oh and don’t forget that drummer guy Travis and his girlfriend…mtv.

  23. poetic_blue

But shit look at the kids they already got… I dont watch the show on the regular so I’m not sure if all of the kids I see are all theirs but its still a good family… so they are still blessed with that at least..

I’m due to go into labor in about 2 to 3 weeks so I can only imagine losing a child after 9 hard months.. but I hope they will be able to still focus on what they have now…

  24. Oh my Gosh! Tell me why there is a bitch on myspace pretending to be Justine? She’s even got a picture of Justine and some lady (looks like puffy’s baby mama Misa) holding a baby and the headline says “It’s a boy”. Now why would somebody do that? That is just disgraceful!

This is truly heartbreaking. I love watching the show and seeing a family who really love and support each other. I send my prayers to them.

  26. Ms1derful

I absolutely fell in love with this family when watching their show. They have to be one of the most sweetest and sincere families I’ve seen. I am so sad that this happened to them.

  27. so sad…i just said a prayer for them

  28. I love watching this family. I will keep them in my prayers as they wade through this difficult time. I hope they try again.

  29. tianni

WOW. That is very sad news indeed. I have seen babies born with that particular birth defect on TLC (the learning channel) “LABOR & DELIVERY” show a number of times. There is an operation that can be performed on the infant to place the organs back inside of the babies body..HOWEVER, it is a VERY RISKY procedure…that can lead to serious infection. At the same time to leave the organs (in most cases the intestines) out side the body also places the baby at low risk of survival.

The older a WOMAN gets these are some of the RISKS she takes when planning to become PREGNANT at an “older age”. Other risks include “SPINAL-DEFECTS & DOWN SYNDROME to name a couple.

MAY GOD BLESS THE ENTIRE FAMILY.

  30. Dannie

God Bless The Family……I am truly speechless on this one! I Luv that Family!

I feel bad for them but I’m angry with the doctors. Technology is so great now they should have seen that the organs were outside of the baby’s body. I hope they try again and have another baby. Justine is so sweet she deserves to have what she wants.
