Some of you might not know this, but The Pussycat Dolls were not the first to record the smash single, “Don’tcha.” An Atlanta-based performer and make-up artist, Tori Alamaze, who can be seen and heard singing background for Andre 3000 of OutKast on his smash hit, “Hey Ya” did. Cee-Lo Green wrote and produced the song. The song never quite jumped off and Tori’s album was shelved but when Interscope finally decided to release the Dolls as a full act, they contacted Cee-Lo about re-recording the song, and Cee-Lo wanted to create a strong relationship with the label. So I guess you guys know my next question. Who sang it better?

Damn! finally I can got on the site,after trying several times yetersay,I was so upset….but I figured I would get back on somehow. Anyway,I must say I like both versions of the song,Tori’s does have a more soulful/rough texture to her vocals. However,PCD’s has a little more up tempo vibe and has more production to the track. Both are good IMO….

It’s a Black girl’s song. Tori Alamaze is and sounds like the Black girl who is supposed to sing the song. She sounds EXEMPLARY. THe song is hot and she sings it hot.
The Copycat Dolls sound unsoulful. They CAN’T sing the song. It would be like a white guy trying to sing James Brown.

i didnt hear tori’s version…cuz this lame old ancient computer i’m using…the speaker’s dont work…but next week i’ll listen 2 it on my laptop when i have access…i’m sure pcd’s sounds better..cuz i’m used 2 hearing it more…i agree with Bruno #28…thats a very true story! only 3 sing, and the other 3 dance…plain and simple…no destinys child there…every1 is aware of their places in the group!
i don’t like tori’s voice. imo she can’t sing very well. i feel that nicole’s voice is stronger. and its true that the high notes in buttons are done by melody but i’ve heard melody live and she has trouble controlling her voice whereas nicole sounds good live.
and what is a “black girl” song? are you trying to say that black girls can’t sing rock or pop, all they can do is r&b b/c that’s ignorant. music and race shouldn’t b related. music is universal. and fyi tori sounds more white than nicole (i don’t hear the churchiness or soulfulness in tori’s voice much) so this whole “black girl” voice nonsense doesn’t hold up here anyway
