WHO SANG IT BETTER? RESENTMENT

Saturday, September 9, 2006

resentment.jpg

I don’t know who recorded this song first, Victoria or Jazmine, but I know that Beyonce recorded it last. I’ve been getting e-mails about this for weeks now. But I was and have been fully aware that there are three versions of this song. To be completely honest, they all sound like three different songs to me! Victoria Beckham’s (former Spice Girl and wife of international soccer star, David Beckham) version does not compare to the soulful Jazmine Sullivan’s or B’s, but upon first listen to Beyonce and Jazmine’s versions, I didn’t even realize it was the same song, but I love both of them. Jazmine’s voice just has so much soul and I love Beyonce’s delivery. The song is just a beautiful song, I can see why so many people’ve recorded.

Victoria Beckham - Resentment (full) - download
Beyonce - Resentment (full) - download
Jazmine Sullivan - Resentment (full) - download

So you know the question… which do you like better?! And by the way, please add Jazmine’s MySpace! She is dope, seriously! She’s written a lot of songs that you’ve heard on the radio. You just didn’t know that it was her.

Posh leave it out! Just be a wifey please!

Love Jazmines tone very soulful.

Beyonces’s I like, her interpretation is expected nothing new vocally. I can’t say who’s I prefer, I like both Jazmine’s and Beyonce’s interpretation.

Jazmine’s version is very soulful and heart felt.

Beyonce’s version is also very soulful and her vocals are smooth. She gives this song more umph and strength.

Victoria Beckham’s version is “extra smooth”, but she does not really add as much soul as the other two ladies do. Her vocals are nice though.

Who sang it better, i can’t really decide, I’ll give all three ladies credit and the benefit of the doubt.

Ladies, ladies, come on the negativity is ridiculous….give credit when it is due, and when you can’t it’s obvious hate and that is the true meaning of hate. Yes Jazmine sang it well also, but so did beyonce. and as far as credit goes for the song who cares, you guys act like beyonce is committing a crime of some sorts, artists sing songs written by others, but because it’s beyonce it is a problem, damn yall hate the girl that damn much. People constantly complain about the girl as if her existance alone is a problem, could it be the girl has everything going for her and because of your own insecurities your jealous? I listened to both and the emotion in beyonce’s is raw and she sounded beautiful-why is it that the only comments you guys could come up with it is who gets credit for it or who will get air play? because you couldn’t knock the vocals-oh my God!!! People, especially us women let’s get it together the crab mentality must stop!

16.

Saturday, September 9, 2006 /

Huh? What do you mean who cares who wrote the song? That is what art is…who gets to claim it…you sound crazy. Or just like a stan would sound. That is why folks back in the 30s, and 40s got ripped off because white bands would rip they ish off and they didn’t get their royalities. MAN…
What if you wrote some ish..or a poem..or painted something and someone else came along and changed ONE line and then said it was theirs? Or added red in one spot? Would it be cool for them to say it was theirs? I know for me…HELL to the NAW man…Give me my credit….Pay me my ish.

Beyonce is cool..Jazzmin sounded good as well. But my God. She didn’t write it. Stop trying to take credit where there isn’t any to be given. Just like Puff…coming in at the end and adding a ‘Oh..or a Ah…and wanting writing credit…” Booooo..nigga Boooo…..

All three women brought uniqueness to their interpretation of the song, it sounds like three different songs and that is a great when it comes to music. But if I had to pick one compared to the others, it would be Jazmine because she was R&B soulful and Beyonce was borderline gospel and R&B but she did her thing. And Victoria’s version was nice, I have never heard her do a solo and it was good. I believe the origin of the song was R&B and she did not try to turn it to a pop or rock song (if she did its her prerogative), she left it as is and give it her all. But big ups to Jazmine, that girl can sing. I just wish radio and television would stop being so commercialized and give underground and unsigned artists a chance and let the audience choose for themselves, instead of beating the machine. And for Beyonce if we don’t like your version which I do we will before the end of the year because radio is so loyal to its popular artists.

Man Im not a Stan of Beyonce but that song had me in tears when she sang it.
Each one brought a different emotion to the song.

Victoria’s was more calm and soothing as if she was telling the story of what happened.

Jazmine’s was soulful and I felt that she was coming at resentment from a viewpoint of she went through it
and she’ll make it.

Beyonce’s hit home with me. She made me feel as if she was going through the situation and the realness in her voice was raw. She gave me the impression
that she’s really hurt and might not make it through.

On the subject of who wrote it…B has no right to claim those rights. I completely co sign with #16.

SonnyNYC

I did not mean to start some drama.

I was surprised to see that Beyonce took credit for writing a song that was obviously written before her album and was given lead writing credits (her name is first, which usually means that the bulk of the music and/or lyrics was written by that person).

I guess that is just the “game” in the industry.

#6: First week sales are not completely accurate in determining the success of an album. Record companies and artist tend to buy their own records for large first week numbers. We will have to see how the sales are in the long run.

For example Damita Jo sold nearly 400,000 in it’s first week, however, as of today has sold less than 1 mil.

That is all.

Ok, Both Beoyonce and Jazmines verions gave me goos bumps. Jazmine has a great voice that really suits the song. She reminds me of Amgie Stone actually. But honestly. if I had to say who sung it BETTER, I would say Beyonce did. She sounded like she really FELT the lyrics and it just had more oopmph to it where Jazmine’s was a bit more laid back and subdued but if we are talkin about being cheated on and having to deal with another women…subdued isnt really the right mood to set.

31.

Shannon

Saturday, September 9, 2006 /

Writing credits don’t mean the person is saying they wrote all the lyrics. Curtis Mayfield certainly didn’t write the song, but he has credit because he composed a very small portion of the song. Another example; everybody knows Berry Gordy used to take writing credits for songs just cause he told the artist to say “whoo-hoo” at a certain place.

As for who sang it better, my personal preference is Beyonce. Vickie shouldn’t even be in the line up.

Beyonce can claim writing credits for it because she re wrote some parts she didnt say she wrote the whole song like you guys are assuming. If that was me I would take writing credits as well becuase i made the song my own.

But I think Beys is better becuase you can tell she put her heart and soul into the song. But Jazmines is good as well I like the soulfulness of it and I must give credit to Victoria because we all know that girl cant sing but she tried

I love Beyonce’s and Jazmine’s equally. Beyonce adds her own thing to every song she sings, therefore I say she can claim some writing rights. Does it just say “Beyonce Knowles”?

Nah, and besides, Victoria nor Jazmine wrote the song; two people wrote it for Victoria’s album, and as ya’ll can see (if you went to Jazmine’s Myspace page), Jazmine is underground and she covers many songs.

Jazmine can SANG though! Victoria’s version is lacking in the soul necessary for this song.

for the record the topic of this post wasn’t who wrote it but whose version do you like the best… that’s why I really don’t care who wrote it. I listened to the songs and I can admire someones work rather it be different from what I prefer and still give them credit for doing the damn thang, but that comes with maturity and it is quite obvious that no matter what anyone says some of you will always criticize beyonce and anything she does, if she jumped over the moon, no matter how amazing the act you will analyze and criticize the manner in which it was done.

All 3 sound really good. Different voices. Very Jazzy edge to the song. Beyonce sounds beautiful but I think I prefer Jazmine on this one. She has that old sound that reminds me of the song “Misty Blue”. Ms. Beckham did her thing to but I prefer the soulful sound.

JAZMINE!! She had the soul to deliver the song, i just loved it from beginning to end, she didn’t oversing like Beyone was kinda on the verge or diamn on the verge of doing, or undersing the Victoria. i don’t like the changes Beyonce did to the song, i mean the heffa gotta have the writing credit somehow! I like all 3. As said before, they all bring something a little different. But, Beyonce hits that last verse better than all 3. When I heard that verse I got major goosebumps. Jazmine’s sounds like it could’ve been on the radio in the 50s, she did a good job bringing that out. Beyonce changed hers up a lot, with all the layers, and background vocals, and such. But, all 3 did a good job.

extreme haters. I stand in the middle. I’m not a Stan

I’m used to hearing Beyonce’s voice and yea she’s a good singer. They all killed the song but it’s because of the song and Jazmine wrote it. Beyonce has so much emotion it made you wonder then she really experience the situation. Posh if I heard her version first I would be sweating her but I didn’t. Lauryn, Mary, Debrah Cox, Alicia keys, and Keisha Cole would have done a good job as well.

I’m going to have to say that Beyonce’s version is the best.

However, as for song writing, how can anyone claim that that isn’t important? It definitely isn’t very important now, because lately it’s been proven that the most retarded songs can hit number 1 on the charts, but song writing is at the heart of music. It determines royalties, and it can make a subpar singer seem brilliant (kelis, Mary J Blige), or a great singer sound ridiculous (as is the case with most of Beyonce’s new tracks).

Back in the day songwriters made BIG BUCKS for their lyrics, and often times were more famous than the people they wrote songs for. So for Beyonce (or any other person) to tag their name on the end of a song credit is damn right offensive.

Thanks for the background on who actually wrote the song, it is a beautiful song.

It’s quite obvious that even if you didn’t write a song originally, but re-write your own version of a song that you can receive credit for your version. So in fact, beyonce hasn’t stolen anyone’s music and presented as her own.

I’m not claiming to know for a fact, but I’m certain all of this was cleared legally before she put the song on her album and everyone involved stands to gain financially. So I’m not sure why who wrote the song is even an argument or relevant to the post.

If beyonce hadn’t claimed credit for the song or had given credit to the original writer of the song, I bet someone would still find something negative to say about “her” and her version of the song.

Jasmine, Victoria, and then Beyonce. I felt Jasmine sang the song effortlessly. Victoria was real smooth and simple. Beyonce as usual oversang the song. I think people think that singing loud equates soul, but it doesnt. Bey over does about every note.

My mom sings opera and when she sings RnB songs they sound funny. On some songs you have to tone it down. But she’s used to hitting those notes, and having alot of emotion.

Beyonce reminds me of someone who tries to give off emotion. It should sound natural and genuine, not forced.

I liked Jazmines version more. It was raw and pwerful. I didn’t hear that digital sound added to her voice like I heard in B’s version. B sang the song powerfully to, but It soinds like she us being extra. Jazmine’s is fresh and unique. The way she sings the song reminds me of Monica singing Mistry Blue, so I definitely co-sign with whhoever said that. Before I read that post I was thinking of MOnica’s rendition of Misty Blue. Amazing Jaz…good luck.

She reminds me of Monica in a sense that, you wouldnt believe her age. When Monica came out with that first album, it was like give me a break this girl is 14. Jasmine reminds me of her.

Thanks for the Myspace link, Im looking forward to her album.

Jazzmine’s is good too. I like the soulful sound in her voice (don’t we all!) But i have to say, by her appearnce, it dosen’t seem she would sound like that.

Jazmine Sullivan has an amazing voice, no doubt about it. But, Beyonce kills the song. I feel every word when Beyonce sings them. Pure emotion. I love Bey’s version.

Also, when an artist uses one line of another artist’s in a song, they give the other artist a writing credit, so why wouldn’t Bey take a writing credit for her adlibs?

I like Beyonce’s Best but Jasmine did a great job to. Its funny how everyone loves bashing beyonce. I mean she credits about 5 or 6 people for writting this song, how come they are not getting called names, you don’t know how much the wrote of it. Plus, if i wrote something in a song a line or two, i would want to get some credit because i added something to it. Plus i am an entrepreneur so i am trying to get that money. Let me try to clear some shit up….LISTEN to the SONG SIMULTANEOUSLY. It is obvious that some of the content has been changed and it was probably written over a cur
tis mayfield track so…. anyway if jazmine has an album out beyonce won’t get writing credits, she will. Legally is an artists changes ANYTHING from the original, they do get credit. As far as who sang better….the song comes from such a painful place-any woman that has been cheated on knows this, so I liked Jazmine’s and Beyonce’s. They both seemed to understand the song.

131.

DMV the Future

Sunday, September 10, 2006 /

I have to question a LOT of yall’s intelligence after reading through all of these responses. I truly believe that people will hear WHATEVER they WANT to hear. And if you listen to the track, you will HEAR that Jazmine’s version is ALMOST the EXACT same as Victoria’s. Same exact lyrics.

Beyonce’s version has a lot more changes in it. Not to mention her vocal arrangement. She fully deserves credit for her PART in the creation of HER version of the song. Duh… her version is 4:40, and the others are 3:25. That’s a FULL minute and some change more. And that minute sure as hell ain’t made up of “doo wops”

These are the lyrics to the Beyonce Version. I want you ALL to play the Victoria version and play the Jazmine version. And if you can go all the way through and the lyrics are all the exact same, and in the same order as what you read… then you can call Beyonce a “biter.” But what I find funny is, they said Victoria wrote the song, yet you all are praising Jazmine (rightfully so… she can SING!). But there is no reason you have to hate on one person just to give another props.

Beyonce - Resentment Lyrics

I wish I could believe you,
and I’ll be allright
but now everything you told me
really don’t apply to the way I feel inside
loving you was easy once apon a time
but now my suspiscion of you
are multiply
and it’s all because you lied

I only give you a hard time
I cant go on and pretend like
I haven’t tried to forgive this
but I’m much too full of resentment

just can’t seem to get over the way you hurt me
don’t know how you gave another
that didn’t mean a thing
no the very thing you gave to me

I thought I could forgive you
and I know you’ve changed
as much as I wanna to trust you
i know it ain’t the same
and its all because you lied

I only give you a hard time
I cant go on and pretend like
I haven’t tried to forgive this
but I’m much too full of resentment

I may never understand
why i’m doing the best that I can
and I tried and I tried to forgive this
I’m much too full of resentment

I’ll always remember feeling like I was no good
like I couldn’t do it for you and your mistress could
its all because you lied

loved you more than ever
more than my own life
the best part of me I gave you
I would sacrifise ad it’s all because you lied

I only give you a hard time
I cant go on and pretend like
I haven’t tried to forgive this
but I’m much too full of resentment

I know she was attractive
but I was here first
been riding with you for six years
why did I deserve
to be treated this way
by you you

I know you’re probably thinking
what’s wrong with B
I’ve been crying for too long
what did you do to me

I used to be so strong
but now you took my soul im crying
can’t stop crying
can’t stop crying
you could’ve told me you wasnt happy
i know you didn’t want to hurt me look what you’ve done to me
now I gotta look at her in her eyes and see she is had half of me
how could you lie

1st - beyonce hands down, her vocals were on point with her delivery, plus she makes u feel the emotions and feelings of the song(pretty soulful). bee vocal range and control is crazy.

second - jazmine sullivan is pretty soulful too, with a kinda old school blusey feeling to it, but she doesn’t fully exercise her vocal range

AS I JUST WANNA CRY 4 REAL ESPICALLY THE ENDING IT ROCKS. THIS IS REALLY SHOWING THE GROWTH IN HER VOICE. DANGEROUSLY IN LOVE WOZ NOTHING LIKE THIS.

OKAY, NOW I WENT BACK AND LISTENED TO POSH’S VERSION. THE GIRL SOUND REALLY GOOD, MAKES THE SONG SOUND REALLY SMOOTH, I’M SURPRISED BUT I ACTUALLY LIKE HER VERSION BETTER THAN BEYONCE’S! WOW, NEVER EXPECTED THAT; BEYONCE DID A GOOD JOB, BUT KINDDA SORT OF OVERSUNG THE DAMN SONG; JASMINE’S VERSION WAS PERFECT! LIKE I SAID BEFORE, JASMINE’S VERSION = MORE SOULFUL, BEYONCE’S VERSION = CHURCH; POSH’S VERSION = SMOOTH. LIKE ALL THREE BUT IF I HAD TO RATE IN ORDER, IT WOULD BE: JASMINE, POSH, BEYONCE’S. I’M NOT A HEATHEN, BUT I DON’T NECESSARILY LIKE GOSPEL MUSIC; TOO MUCH EMOTIONALISM AND LESS SONG IF YOU ASK ME; SOMETIMES YOU JUST WANT TO HEAR THE DAMN SONG!

SOMETIMES BECAUSE SOMEONE OVER SINGS A SONG IN A GOSPEL-LIKE TYPE OF WAY, PEOPLE OFTEN SAY THEY SONG IT BEST - BUT I DON’T AGREE, SOMETIME IT TAKES AWAY FROM THE SONG. JUST MY OPINION. HANDS DOWN THOUGH IT’S JUST A BEAUTIFUL SONG.

i also like Posh’s version, cuz that shit was like a letter to her Husband david— cuz davids been fucking everything with a skirt— so i guess that was her lil payback to him

Ok, can someone answer something for me?

How come people always say that it sounds like Beyonce has no soul when she sings? I can feel when she’s singing, and obviously other people do as well. She has a great voice, and she loves what she does.

For ya’ll who are saying, “I love Jazmine’s better; you can hear the soul in her voice.”

Uhh…that’s the voice she was born with. It’s raspy and full, just like Beyonce’s is is clear and powerful. How can you say that either has more soul? You don’t know what they were feeling as they sang it.

They BOTH sang that song!

1st Jazmine - had the song from the door…she doesn’t need to scream at the top of her lungs at the end of the song to make it “powerful”, even though it sounds like she could

2nd Victoria - she allows you to listen and understand the lyrics. Her voice flows well on a “soulful/folky” track like this.

3rd Beyonce - she didn’t grab me from the door with this one. she’s not a quiet singer, so it sounded weak in the beginning. and when she did open dem pipes up, i think she oversang the song.

but hey, she slapped her name on it and put it on her album, so i guess it’s her song now.

Musicated Minor…

I think what people might mean is that Beyonce has a sound that was taught and not natural. There is a difference between someone who can naturally sing and perfects the sound versus someone who can’t and is taught to do runs, vibrato, etc. It seems that B is imitating a true soul singer by reproducing some of the “soulful” sounds. Maybe….

But I know for me, J’s sound is more soulful because of its fullness, depth, quality, and truth. B on the other hand sounds artificial - but she still does a good job.

SHE HAS AN OLD FOLK SONG KIND OF FEEL TO IT AND I REALLY LIKE IT. BEYONCE’S IS GOOD, BUT I DIDN’T REALLY START TO FEEL IT UNTIL THE END. JAZMINE’S IS JUST GOOD ALL THE WAY AROUND. I LOVE LOVE HER VOICE. IF I HAD TO RANK THEM IT WOULD BE:
1. VICTORIA’S — CAUSE IT’S DIFFERENT NOT TYPICAL R&B OR POP

2. JAZMINE
3. BEYONCE

I have the CD right now and she gives credits to other writers and says it is an excerpt for Curtis Mayfield. There was a time when black folks DID NOT get any CREDITS for song writing. The record company has to pay her more for a song credit so that is the motivation. This is standard even if you only add one line.

Whoever wrote the initial song was happy to give it to Beyonce and put it on what will probably be a platinum record at least. That increases their profit from the song. In the music business, it’s the songwriters and producers who make the money. If you are a self-contained artist, you really win.
I liked all three versions, was surprised that Posh Spice sounded pretty good. That’s the mark of a great song when several people can do it and it sounds good each time.

I think all versions are a reflection of that particular artist, one isn’t really better then the other. I agree with the earlier post that Beyonces does sound like she’s near tears, the emotion was beautiful. Unfortunately, this happens in the industry a lot a songwritter will write a song and sell it to the highest bidder, and occasionally maybe two or three of them. typically as in the cas of this particular song, just because it is recorded by a particular artist doesn’t mean it will see the light of day. Both Posh and Jasmines version were both left on the cutting room floor, and Beyonce’s label Columbia chose to pick up her version for her album. It really isn’t a Beyonce thing it’s a business thing, if this girl Jasmine is a really good singer I’m sure that the executives from her label had a really good reason for not using it.

Until next time folks,

OMG, why does everyone have so much hate towards Beyonce? I guess thats the way it goes, when you become that successful people tend to turn their back on you. But anyways, Resentment is a remake. Couldn’t be any worse than any of these rappers stealing samples from old hits and claiming it as there own. What you fail to realize is if a person adds one word to a song, they have contributed SOMETHING. Therefore they are protected by copyright laws to get their credits
Quit trying to find soemthing wrong with everything.

im sorry, did beyonce ask the paparazi to follow her around so there is always fresh pics or news of her doing something?? it is her job & bcoz she is hot there WILL be alot of press. did she ask for the god given talent that is her voice?? i dont understand, she is makin her money like u all would want to do if in her position but she is constantly hated on, what for is what id like to know. if ashanti, mya, amerie to name a few were as successful as her im guessin they would get the same reception from u guys.

b4 ne1 jumps down my throat im not sayin it was ok for her to take writin creds, im saying that all the time ppl r hatin on her but i dont c why??? im not even a crazy ass fan i just dont think its appropriate the way u guys carry on sometimes.

ive read ppl give credit to ashanti and kelis, ive heard so many times how them girls are RUDE!! further more hands up if u saw ashanti gettin punked, she needs to recognise that her shit stinks. i REALLY want to know why all the beyonce hate, what has she done to offend u guys.

victoria beckham is a joke. jasmine’s version was good, she can really sing but her voice is totally different to bey’s which makes it unfair to compare, depends what u like. both were really good but i did prefer bey’s.

Exactly…Beyonce did NOT try to take credit, she just gave herself credit where credit is due. JAZMINE DIDN’T EVEN WRITE THE DAMN THING. She covered it too, why is everyone acting as if she did…hmm?

The only thing i have to disagree on is that Beyonce added ALOT to the song…not just a little…She added:

The vocal arrangements…
Phrases
“I haven’t tried to forgive this
but I’m much too full of resentment” to every chorus, That fulls out the song…IMO
And the whole last part
The song basically is turnt around…
verses are in different places w/ different words.
i didn’t even realize till DV posted the lyrics.

Beyonce’s is better; she has the emotion and it brings you to tears. And she fills the ending w/ her own lyrics. She made is her own, most def. The arrangements are CRAZY. Jazmine’s I like because of her voice. It sounds nearly effortless. Victoria’s I couldn’t bare to listen to….was breathy and one-toned.

1. Beyonce (By a mile)
2. Jazmine (Solid, but lacking)
3. Victoria (Nothing much to like)

I only took the time to upload two versions (Beyonce’s and Jazmine’s). I love both versions, but there’s something about Jazmines’ voice that made me fall in love with the track. Her vocals are strong and she brings a lot of soul to the lyrics. I agree with #2, Beyonces’ vocals are nothing new, and they’re a little overdone, if you ask me. But I still like them both..but I gotta give it to JAZMINE, she did the damn thing.

Ok, lets put it all out on the table. # 1 i am from philly and i kno jazmine sullivan personally. Beyonce is the best female vocal artist in the music industry. although many people dont even kno who jazmine sullivan is, i can all most gaurntee you she will be known. Granted beyonce did take credit for the song, but she still delieverd in a way towards the song still competes with jazmines( if not we wouldnt be having this discussion). Being a vocalist myself, there is kno one who can compare to beyonce VOCALLY but jazmine. (not even Mariah Carrey, but thats a whole other topic).

@211 you must be a beyonce stan. because her voice is good and she can sang plus she is a GOOD Performer. NOW VOICE WISE CHRISTINA AGUILERA IS SHITTING ON BEYONCE. BOTH THEIR VOICES ARE POWERFUL, but RANGE WISE CHRIstina aguilera has it. BEyonce is not the best female vocal artist in the industry now. I will admit that a lot of the female artist have “limited Vocal Skills” but she is def. not the best. I am just wondering what makes you think she is the best NOW. and how do you say no one can compare to Beyonce but Jasmine?

“Christina Aguilera”– are you seriously. Granted Christina can sing on record well, but have you heard christina live??? She cant finish a song with out struggling for the last note!!! Christina has an OK voice. I am a beyonce fan, but i am not a Fanatic! The reason why i say Jazmine is the closest to Beyonce is because thats the truth. There is not many female artist who has vocal talent. Minus the looks, body, facial features, and just hear the voice, Beyonce is the best female artist. Also what you have to realize is that the music industry is not based on vocal talent anymore. Its all about how good you look, how big your ass is etc. You dont even have to know how to sing to get in the music industry( take Ciara and Chris Brown for example).

Damn it got vicious in here for second. I can say that I like both versions. I was riding out to Beyonce until I heard Jazzy’s version. I don’t really but Mrs. Beckham in the equation. I feel like Jazzy has such a mature voice to be 19 and I believe she recorded it a few years ago. Her Version is very soulful and rich, her raspiness is reminiscent of Kim Burrell and her song “Around Midnight” is tight work. Beyonce’s version is very powerful and has a different emotion to it. I think her dramatic feel is one that is pretty consistant in all of her ballads. I love her but I think she tends to oversing sometimes. And her performances Channel Tina Turner quite often. But I give Kudo’s to them both. But the million dollar question is: WHO WROTE THIS SONG ORIGINALLY?

I agree with #212. Every artist has a bad night, but I believe that Christina Aguilera is a BAD BAD BABY. She has a very wide vocal range and can tear some shit up. I like all 3 versions but Beyonce’s is the best. The rawness and the pain in her voice takes the song to another level. Jazmine’s version is beautiful as well because of her soulful voice. To me, the lyrics of the song deserve more passion and Jazmine didnt give that. Victoria’s version is good however it doesnt stand up against the other two.

As far as the credits of the song… Beyonce added her name for changing the lyrics (which is fine) because she didnt take off the credit of the original writers. Its no different than a rapper sampling an old song, rewriting it and taking credit. So STOP making it seem like she STOLE the song!

I recently spoken with jazmine and i just found out that neither Jazmine, Beyonce, nor Victoria wrote the song. The song was oringinally written by an artist back in the day ( I will be sure to post her name the next time i log on).

What happen was jazmine recored a version of the song, and i guess Beyonce and Victoria liked her version, and they recored a version similiar to jazmines.

i know that this isn’t a boxing match and everyone’s is entitled to they’re own opinion. The song is a beautiful song all together. My heart isn’t broken and i felt all emotional inside. When i first heard it, it was off of B-day.I went online to download it and i seen all these comments about who sung it better, Vikki or B, Beyonce got it by a long shot. She made me want to cry when i heard the song like she put her heart and soul in the song(like always),which is what the song needs…soul. If you don’t like B, that’s all good and gravy but dawg she got them vocals on lock.Today was my first time hearing Jasmine’s also i can see the comp between them two, But I don’t too much like Vikki’s version..And if the credit was so much of an issue there would be people sueing up the a**, so if they’re not getting rawled up neither should you.

I don’t post much, but A. I have lots of Victoria’s Song and she can sing, she is no Mariah or Debelah Morgan. I think going up against r&b vocals she did a beautiful job.

All the girls did the a great job.

Beyonce has great talent but she isn’t the best vocal out there, she just happens to follow the trend which is skin baring, If Debelah Morgan sold out her morals like jessica simpson and beyonce she’d be recording the emancipation of Debelah and not Mariah because here range is that of Mariah, Minnie Rippleton, Denise Williams.

can’t none of them sue because my father has been playing the instrumental for years, long before all those girls sung off of it. i suppose its a song from the 70’s no one can file suit because its not any of their songs.

I definitely think Beyonce’s version is better because she added more to the song, she made it her own. U can really feel her passion….Jazmine’s version is great also. She has a beautiful voice, but I think she’s just singing the song and not delivering it…

the song was written by damon dash with victoria since it was talking about how her and david’s marriage and how it was falling apart n she sang it a couple of years ago so beyonce shouldnt take credit for writing the song although she changed a few lyrics i like all versions but i like vic an jaz. version better cuz b was sreaming on hers to much she is a great artist but if she truly worked so hard she would be able to write her own songs which she doesnt and if you believe she does think again!

As much as everyone’s comments could be true, it is common knowledge that Beyonce has been writing songs since she was very young. The furthest back I could trace this song being recorded was 2003. Beyonce may have written the song a few years ago and Victoria Beckam and Jazmine Sullivan just took it and recorded it.( That makes the MOST since.)

We all know Jazzy wrote the song (& sang it best IN MY OPINION).. Beyonce is a beast but she admitted to allowing many others some creative input on this album and Jazzy is just one of those people. For both Posh and Jazzy to have the same version lets you know that Beyonce isn’t the original writer and as previously concluded she was able to get credit for the editing she did to the song. This girl is 6 years Beyonce’s junior and can write like that? Has already performed with Stevie Wonder 6 years ago at the age of 13? Has been in the music business for 7 years and isn’t able to buy herself a drink? Graduated from the same high school as boyz ii men? YES! YES! YES! YES!

omg are yall stupid damon dash wrote the damn song for victoria a few years ago if you were familiar with english press you would know this since it is clearly about david beckham beyonce took it and added a few things and if you write one line in a song you can say its your song jazmine didnt write but she sang it well and the beat was tooken from an old song so get over it damn

i think that the song most definately sounds different when performed by each of them. ive never been too keen on victoria’s attempts at ’singing’ but i must say i was pleasantly surprised when i heard her version. she did her best and for what its worth it was classy.

beyonce, to me, has always been and will always be one of the most overrated people in the music industry. she openly allows herself to be pimped by her parents, her pr agency and even her man for monetry gain but when i hear he sings songs like this, i see a glimmer of hope for the respectable and revered singer and performer that i would prefer her to be. as far as im concerened anybody with the capabilities to project emotion in a song like the way she has, has absolutely no need to be shakin her ass n bending over on GQ magazine covers like a common vide-hoe. britney spears - definately, but not beyonce. in that respect, she could take a leaf out of victorias less talentled but slightly more classy book.

jazzy; my gurl through and through. ive been hearing about this girl for so long and every year i wait for her to break through, but she never does. her voice is beyond soulful and although she doesnt manage to evoke the emotions that beyonce did, she stays away from the one thing that hacks me off so majorly about beyonce; she didnt oversing and adlib the song to death.

my verdict (regretably)
#1 beyonce despite her oversinging and chronic overexposed nature.
#2 jazzy but im sure she could have put a bit more oomph into teh delivery
#3 victoria go ahead girl n keep spicin up your life!

I agree with #148, BEYONCE MURDERED DAT SONG, HANDS DOWN!!! EVERY THOUGH THE OTHER GIRL, I FORGOT HER NAME THAT QUICK, SANG IT OKAY, IT WAS SOULFUL, IT DOESN’T COMPARE TO B’S AT ALL. B’S VERSION FELT SO REAL, IT WAS LIKE, HER MAN JUST HAD DONE HER WRONG, AND SHE STARTED SINGING THIS SONG. POSH NEED TO SIT HER ASS DOWN SOMEWHERE CUZ U DIDNT GET ANY EMOTIONS FROM HER, OUT THAT SONG! SO TO ALL THE BEYONCE HATERS
LIKE TI SAID, YALL CAN HATE IF U WANT 2, BUT YALL HOEZ WASTING YALL TIME!”

Clearly Beyonce deserves a writing credit because she changed the lyrics and made it more personal. Plus when this album came out she clearly stated that this was a colaboration of many writers and many producers. She helped write most of the songs. She never took full credit for writing the complete album she always stated that it was a colaboration and Beyonce’s version was the best ofcourse!!!! Beyonce sings her heart out on this song. Nobody snaps like B does. And who cares about and ex spice girl anyway

I know ppl are entitled to an opinio, and vickie and B put it down…but there is no way in hell that their versions can compare to Jazmine’s….i’ve been singing for 19 years and i’ve heard everything but i’ve never heard anyone run like her…Jesus Christ!

I LOVEEEEEE Jazmine’s version. BUT those harmonies in Beyonce’s versions are out of this word. And Beyonce gets FARRRR more virtuosic with the singing. She adds a WHOLE bunch of power, strength, and range. She’s a better technical singer than Jazmine obviously, but Jazmine has more soul. But again those harmonies in Beyonce’s version are nuts lol. Hard to choose.

I think it has nothing to do with jelousy but you guys ride her so much that the smallest thing a person says you are affended now beyonce in my opinion did well but the fact that the song was written a while ago and sung twice before she should not be pronounced the writer of this song however I do think that jazmine sung the song better but some of you will never see it that way because you all wont face the fact that there are singers better than miss knowles by the way you can not bash or call a person a hater for being original and having a mind of their own and being different having a different style and taste than you good day

Jazmine and Beyonce sang the song equally well. B’s delivery and emotions really added to the song and Jazmine’s rifts at the end were very good. Either way, the song is something that many women can relate to.

I like Jasmine’s version better. Beyonce’s sounds overproduced. The simplicity of Jasmin’s appeals to me. Victoria’s is too unsoulful….

I do agree that Beyonce shouldn’t put her name on writing credits, because it is misleading. The person(s) who actually made a signifigant contribution should be there.

welll to set the record straight what alot of people dont know jazmine sullivan is that she does session work. she does studio singing which means she does not have to sing a verse to the best of her ability cuz artist like ummm posh and beyonce can resing the verses and a ffew back grounds being it that jazmine sullivan was the session singer of this song and only put enough on it to sell to an artist to sing over she did a hell of a job better then the other to her tone is so much doper then beyonce and posh

i love Victoria’s version coz she takes u back to that alleged affair and how it messed her up….

Jazzy sounds ok..imean she has s god voice but i cant connect the senario of resentment althou she sounds good

Bee sounds good as well and sings the only way she knows how and thats not a bad thing!

i think it was originally for Posh so stop with all the negativity…no two artists are the same!

Victoria needs 2 stop immediately!!!!! I love Beyonce & her theatrics she kills ish err’time!!!!! Jazmine’s version I like the most because it has an effortless soul 2 it, Beyonce’s is soulful & takes us on a plane ride, while Jazmine is a bird in flight- NATURAL & it doesn’t need theatrics to carry it. She is bomb I can’t wait 4 her 2 blow!

Well Victoria wrote the song because of the alleged affair that her husband had, makes more sense that she wrote the song and besides, her’s has more emotion based on the fact she went through the experience, not Beyonce and not Jazmine. Though they both are good singers, Victoria takes the cake on this one. It is her’s, she wrote it, she’s lived it, and you can feel her pain and confusion.

Victoria’s version is boring. Extremely boring.

Beyonce gets on my nerves. She does too many runs. She always sounds like she’s forcing something. I don’t know if it’s energy or volume. But she always sounds forced and not natural.

I think Jazmine’s was the best. Due to her voice sounding soft but powerful, unlike Beyonce’s screaming. Beyonce needs to learn from the young vocalist. Jazmine can show Beyonce that you don’t have to scream to dominate a track.

I overheard this song playing in my daughters room constantly. I had NO CLUE who sang it or what the name of the song was. Everytime I heard it I found myself liking it more and more purely off the emotion and the delivery of the song. I finally asked my daughter who sang the song and she told me beyonce. For some reason I sarted looking for information on who can write such a great song…..After all the hoopla surrounding “originality” and where it came from? who wrote it? I found out it was Walter Millsap III, Candice Nelson and that Curtis Mayfield played the musical part (sample) I heard the other versions and allthough I like Jasmines voice as well I feel Beyonce’s version kills the other ones. Jusy my 2 cents! It’s a well written song and ANYBODY will soul can carry it!

I’ve loved Beyonce since Destiny’s Child. But honestly, this song has 2 go 2 Jazmine. Her voice is so sultry and perfect for this song. Beyonce’s voice is much too powerful for this type of song because her voice keeps overlapping itself and it’s just way 2 much. Besides, she doesn’t bring anything new to the song other than what she gives every other song she sings. When i first heard resentment, it was by Beyonce after I bought her album. I didn’t really connect to the song as much as the others. Then I heard that the song had been written for Jazmine Sullivan who I had never heard of. It was FLAWLESS!!! Victoria Beckham isn’t even in the contest…sry.
