The system is set up like this: Once you get a felony conviction, your scarred for life. You can’t vote, you can’t get a decent job…..

This is why it’s so hard for people to get off of drugs or for people to stop selling drugs…What other options do they REALLY have when they have an arrest record….

Sorry for venting: I’m just disgusted, because I have to go to court AGAIN, and watch one of my students get sentenced for hustling….

Yeah BIll Nassau Bahamas IS Beautiful but they have a ghetto in their own. I went in August and the tour guide took us through the ghetto and we were in amazement. They were trying to sell us weed from the bus, it was crazy.

Black Men and Other Women

While discussing the 50% of black men who outmarry in the UK so much in the past few days, I thought it was about time to get some updated stats on just what percentage of AA men are married to white and other women. The following stats come from p. 159 of the Michael Eric Dyson Reader published in 2004. These figures don’t include the black males who were dating white women and others or “shacking” with them, just the married ones and these are 1990 figures. So these are not the latest, but it was the best I could do. If some of you have more recent figures, please supply them. Here goes:

-8% of married black men in 1990 between the ages of 25-34 were married to white or “other” women compared to 4% of white men in the same age cohort.

-In the Pacific Northwest states (e.g. Oregon, Washington, etc.) 32% of married black men were married to non-black women.

-In California, 20% of married black men were married to white and other women.

-In the Rocky Mountain states, 30% of black married men were married to non-black women.

-In New England States, 19% of black married men were married to non-black women.

-In military, 14% of black married men had non-black wives.

-10% of black male college grads were married to non-black women.

-13% of black males with a graduate degree were married to non-black women.

-Overall 200, 000 black married men in 1990 were married to white and “other” women.

According to Michael Eric Dyson, the overwhelming majority of the non-black wives were white women. He cited all of the usual reasons for this outmarrying phenomenon of black men: status-seeking, ‘forbidden fruit’, blinded by white/light beauty even when it ain’t beautiful, the “trophy” or reward for their success, etc. and also acknowledged that in some cases, it’s love. Dyson, being Dyson, is very sympathetic to sistas and said that 200,000 marriageable black men is a major number for sistas to lose to other women, considering the small overall number of marriageable black men and considering the large number of high quality black women seeking marriage exclusively with black men.

Sistas, even I was startled by these high percentages. Maybe some of y’all aren’t? LOL! I had not grasped the full magnitude of this trend among black men. Sure, I’ve seen lots of bm-wm and black males with other women couples and a statistic here and there, and of course, among the black elite men (wealthy, intelligentsia, influential, hi-profile, stars), it’s seems that a white or non-black wife or girlfriend is required, but WOW!! Even so, I was aware enough, years ago, to realize that I needed to expand my pool or I’d be left sitting on the shelf.

This is a very sad situation for a lot of young, starry-eyed black women who are looking forward to romance, love, marriage and the whole nine with a black prince. It’s NOT going to happen for a large number of them because these numbers don’t lie and they are steadily rising. We need to go on a mission to urge these young women to widen their scope in the search for a good mate and we need to do it NOW!!

Man-Sharing and HIV among Black Women

A STATISTIC I heard yesterday: “AIDS is the No. 1 killer of American black women between the ages of 21 and 34, and they’re contracting the disease mostly through sex with black men.”

Hmmmm . . . .

The sharing of black men in the black community is widespread, but not talked about much because the type of sometimes desperation, emotional baggage, and RISKY behavior attached to it are tinged with shame. Man-sharing can does often lead to disease-sharing because some sistas undoubtedly engage in hi-risk sex due to the black man shortage. According to Cornelius Baker, with the Aids Alliance for Children, Youth, and Families in D.C., “Negotiating the use of condoms between men and women in the black community can be a complex issue. Many black women don’t feel they can negotiate for their safety,” Baker says. This means that if a black woman turns a black man down for sex, she believes he won’t stick around. Presented with so few chances at love and romance, many sistas are desperate to hold on to any black man who has expressed interest. This leads to RISKY sex with black men (many of whom still don’t stick around), and many of these sistas are dying as a result.

????? It is torture being a part of a race that segregates each other based on skin complexion. Although I understand that your argument wasn’t purely about skin complexion, I know many lighter skin women who are very insecure about their face.

But the real damage was done when you generalized about “black women not feeling beautiful unless confirmed by white men. I understand that that situation may have hurt you, but my gosh, generalizing - I’ve never heard of that. I’ve kicked it with a few white boys and they say, “you’re hot” but being that I am solely attracted to black men, It was flattering, but it didn’t turn my world upside down.

I think that it gets pretty dangerous when in the past you get hurt and 20 years later you use that situation to generalize and insult black women. I know that was not your intentions, but damn. What I state are my OPINIONS, based on my 40+ years of living experience…

If what I have encountered has not necessarily been YOUR personeel experience, well that is understandable.

We all don’t travel down the same pathways, nor do we have the same experiences.

Once again, I apologize for any hurt you have experience by reading my post.

I won’t retract what I said, because it is in fact TRUE, based on MY experiences.

As a matter of fact, you ladies basically confirmed and verified what I’ve been saying all along.

Females place a great deal of emphasis on how THEY look, and they tend to let MEN make them feel bad, based on perceived “shortcoming” that they may have…

Men do in fact make judgements and decisions based on Visual’s whereas Woman make judgements and decisions based on emotions.

But the fact that men are Visual creature should not negate in the woman’s mind her own beauty & attraction.

What I’m saying is this: a WOMAN should NOT let a Man (Black or White) make her feel bad for not looking a certain way.
