The only evolution I see is that she went from Honey-Blonde hair to dark brown hair. The cover is nice, but it is sort of reminiscent of a perfume advertisement.

Hdizzle, of course people said Aaliyah couldn’t sing. That’s because people will have negative things to say about any and everyone. You can have all the talent in the world, but you will NEVER be exempt from haters, apparently even after death. But you can’t use what others have to say as proof. Aaliyah wasn’t the best singer, but she could sing. There are several videos of her on YouTube you could sight as evidence.

As far as the cover, its ok. Its just a cover. I really wasn’t expecting anything iconic like the Janet. cover.

i think its funny to read the discourse over the lack of power behind someone’s voice. aaliyah’s voice indeed was soft yet there was colour and range to her ability that read effortlessly on the ears & why she gets the repect even by veterans she deserves.

additionally, aaliyah knew how to use her voice & interestingly enough created music that ppl remember… yet i find it unfortunate that someone like aguilera whose has a voice of a beast and still comes across like a wreck cause she gives u every trill and run down to the kitchen sink just to sing “i love you.”

But aside from her close association to Missy, I don’t think she should be catching all this heat for being so close in comparison to other artists, namely Aaliyah. She was probably influenced a lot by Aaliyah like lots of other female artists today. She didn’t ask for these comparisons. I think we should fall back and let this second release come out and see if she’s evolved creatively as an artist.
