CLAUDIA JORDAN COVERS SMOOTH MAG

Friday, October 27, 2006

cjordan1.jpg cjordan2.jpg
Claudia Jordan, one of the most visible briefcase models from NBC’s Deal or No Deal, is featured on the cover of SMOOTH magazine’s Hot 100 issue. In the cover story written by journalist Jawn Murray, Jordan—who currently dates Olympic track star Maurice Green and is also a former Barker Beauty from The Price Is Right—talks about the double standards in Hollywood as it pertains to black talent versus white talent.

I hear you hate when people reference you as a “video girl?”
CJ: It does because its with the negative connotation that comes with being a video girl. I was talking to my friends about this and it’s not mainstream Hollywood where a Black girl can come on the scene and get a Disney show or a movie deal. They’re more willing to make White [people] celebrities out the gate. For us, we have to do stuff like that [being in videos]. That’s not always a bad thing. People have to remember that there are nice videos and there are stank ones, just like nice film projects and crappie ones. I think they’re okay when it comes to starting in the business and you can be selective and do stuff that’s nice. I think that when people classify anyone who has been in a video as a video hoe, it’s ridiculous.

Do you think there’s a double standard when it comes to classifying Black celebrities and White celebrities in the same vein for their sexiness? Like people revere Carmen Elektra and Pamela Anderson, but in the same breath look down on folks like Traci Bingham.
CJ: Right! It’s not right. It’s such a double standard and the unfortunate part about it is that we, as Black people, are doing it ourselves. That’s what frustrates me because I get a lot of emails from girls that want to start off and I can’t tell them to just show up for an audition for this movie. Sometimes in Black Hollywood it seems that you got to get a little buzz on the more urban level and wait until you get a little visible and then you get a shot. The same folks have to work a long time in Black Hollywood before they start getting considered for the bigger parts so the videos are easier to get in the beginning. I think years ago, videos were a lot nicer, a lot fairer towards women.

Greengirl you crazy! Those magazines Smooth, King and the rest of them kill me. They take pics of them half naked and then turn around and ask them how they feel about being labeled as video hoes. Then the chicks try to give a deep involved answer, not even realizing they’ve been pimped yet again.

She is right White America does give Pamela Anderson and Carmen Electra, also Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan the red carpet approval. Most of them are more known for taking off there clothes and appearing in porn tapes, but yet they are still consider royalty in America. Whereas, if a black woman appears in a video with clothes she is consider a ‘hoe’. I don’t get it. We shouldn’t be putting our own people down when they are trying to be as decent as possible in this moral degrading hyprocritical world. It’s not just she is just holding a case, but she is one of three black women out of 25 white women. Before you know it will be more Latinos than Black women on this game shoe. Mainly due to the dramatic increase in the Latino paopulation. They are going to take over. So we do need to support each other more.

boo n***a boo!!! I agree with you “Black Girls Need a Reality Check” Taking off your clothes for a dirtball mag IS NOT a career choice that should garner our support. I can’t believe this was even posted as “newsworthy.” Claudia Jordan has made some headway in Hollywood (she was on a show on the Style Network for a minute but I don’t remember the name:) BUT as of late it’s been slim pickins hence the reason why she is on the cover of this mag shaking it fast for cash (or should I say coins because you DON’T get paid that much for doing Smooth, etc.- I KNOW models who have been in Smooth Girl & Black Men’s and their appearance in those mags was/is pretty much the pinnacle of their careers!

Just tacky, trashy, & the reason why it is so difficult for black women to be taken seriously in Hollywood! When will young black women realize that taking off your clothes only works for WHITE WOMEN!!! A black woman will NEVER get her own movie, TV show, etc. off of a pictorial in a men’s magazine!

Black Girls Needs Reality Check..you need SPELL CHECK. Not all videos girls shake their asses in videos for one and two not everyone is meant to be a doctor, lawyer or indian chief.

Let them do their thing my god people act like shaking your ass is horrible! Niggas be in club shaking their ass on random niggas but they can’t hop in the video and jam too. Beyonce shakes her ass every chance she gets and Halle fucked her way to an Oscar!! Give me a break.

The only reason why video girls get a bad rep is because of the bitches that do their job and turn groupie and star struck.

40.

Black girls needs realitycheck

Friday, October 27, 2006 /

Perdon me. Ok atleast i need a spell check but aye check dis out either love it or hate it but dass how the story goes. How can someone respect you if you dont respect your damn self?. Majority of women complain bout em rapperz call em bitches n hoes but still u go n take off yo clothes n be in they video shakin yo ass jus to get paid that quick money. I say fuck it that ain’t right. Yeah Beyonce shake her ass 24/7 but Beyonce don let a nigga put her on uncut video naked shakin her ass while another girl feelin up on her. That is stupid I don give a fuck watchu say. If we need to support eachother then we need to start frm the get-go by stop being so bitches n educate our selves. I mean if you want to gain respect how the fuck u gon gain respect from being a video girl shakin yo ass 24/7 jus to get that qucik dollar?. Bobbito i didnt say everybody shuld be a damn doctor i said go to skool educate ur damn self n stop trying to get that quick fame which wont last longer. Now here they r complain bout they don get nuff roles. Which white man wants a video hoe to be on they movies? Let me check a porn one maybe. So if u wont respect ur self don count on someone else to respect you. Money comes n go but education stays with u 4ever no metta what. In order for you to be in music video u have to sleep with somebody or to do somethin for you to get there now is that smart? The fuck no. Guys don respect u on how u look. Guys respect u on ur appearance.

I agree, how you gonna do a magazine like King and Smooth, then talk about “being labeled as a video hoe”, I mean “girl”…..

That chick do need a reality check…right along with the rest of Black America…If you gonna be a “Video Hoe” then thats fine, but dont be a “video hoe” and then wonder why its hard to break in the biz doing other things, or wonder why people dont take you seriously…Then that’s when you look and sound stupid…

I support no women who allow themselves to be degraded….There wouldnt be no such thing as video hoes, if women werent lining up around the corner to be one….And thats the truth.

Them girls on uncut are hoecakes strictly hoecakes people trying to just be in the video and fuck the artist.

Most of these girls ARE educated they are just using this to get exposure. I get what they’re saying, everybody is generalizing the models that appear in the videos not all them are hoecakes. In most of the magazines that I own where they interview the models they say they have degrees from college. Black people aren’t going to get a chance in Hollywood if they got a degree or not that shit don’t matter at all. Having your face and name out there will. And it has worked.

You said which white man want a ho in their movies? Paris is a ho, Carmen is a ho, Pam Anderson..ho, most white celebs have a sex tape. Hell Angelina Jolie used to carry blood around her damn neck. Appearing in videos doesn’t harm a black girl’s chance at doing well in Hollywood being BLACK does that.

And to be in the video you have to audition if I’m correct. Most girls fuck their way into a video, thats true. But not ALL of them do that. WHITE GIRLS FUCK THEIR WAY TO THE TOP! Shit and their people still support them. They be like oh shit sue fucked john to get the role. GO GIRL! Or damn Brittney Spears stripped at the MTv awards damn that was hot.

We need to support each other without being so damn judgemental. So a girl wants to shake her ass in a video, strip club, or stroll the streets late nights. That’s her decision, support her, and wish her luck then pray for the girl if you feel like she’s doing something wrong. Don’t group her into a category that she may or may not belong in. You don’t know these girls at all to sit here and say why they do shit.

If you don’t like it then don’t hop in the videos and drop it like it’s hot. Don’t knock someone else hustle.

Homegirl cute and from how she answered questions i can tell she got a good background to accompany her great background. Women wit a good head on their shoulders is a wonderful thing, cuz a man is complete when if he got a fine gurl wit good head.

Also black folk this is way off topic but i got a complaint, cuz i pay attention to world shit. I like how we got together for dat Katrina, SOS stuff, but black people over in Africa, especially Darfur, ain’t getting proper aid in that crisis and I don’t hear us rallying to help folk over there. I’m just saying, I mean where is the special on BET for this. I guess black folk in America r the only ones that count. Sorry but i had to do it. One.

So quick to put down folks in this day and age of google. If you were real about yours “Girl need a reality check” and all the other stereotypers here you would have actually found out who Claudia is. You would have realized her being one of three black girls on a notionally televised, prime time game show is far more significant than her history of music videos. You would know she sued Bob Barker for harassment and that is why she quit the Price is Right. See you cannot say who gives a fuck and then go on a multiple post tirade, it says you give a fuck!
Claudia has been a model for over ten years, and not a video hoe. She has done some videos, but you will not find her in a Mr. marcus movie, a Snoop bootleg, or on BET after dark.
Save your vitriol for some real video hoes because they are out there. Meanwhile, take note that what Claudia said is VERY true. Pamela and Carmen get free passes while black women get labeled hoes and are told they need “a reality check.”

Why would I need to do research for some chick that I see half naked on a mag…Everyone is going to assume that she’s just another hoe trying to fuck her way to to the top, She may not be one, but she is damn sure portraying herself like one…..

Pamlea Anderson may have taken her clothes off but she didnt take her clothes under some rapper, smaking her ass nad calling her a big bootie hoe….there is a huge difference…I dont think many can see that….When Pamela did her playboy pics, SHE WAS THE CENTER OF ATTENTION,….The pics didnt make her seem like some money hungry hoe under the control of a rapper…..

but when is comes to the black and white thing, we shouldnt be comapring ourselves to them in the first place…….it’s like comparing a cripple to someone with a harvard degree.

51.

But if ur educated enough why wuld u go line up to be in a video instead of using ur education n build a life that is not half naked?. Video girls always complain bout they don get nuff respect but who wuld respect u if u don respect ur damn self?. Back in 60s…70s n all that there was thing called music but u didnt see our grandmama/mothers going to line up jus to be one video hoe to get that quick fame to be in King magazine spreading ur legs like ur ready to get fucked. Im not sayin she is a hoe or nething but what im sayin is the way u appear thas how ppl take u serious i mean look at her she half naked on magazine cover besically if ne industry ppl will come n say “Aye u wan be a video hoe” ppl look at u on ur appearence n how u respect urself. If u half naked who gon give u respect?. 50 cent n other rapperz call women hoes n still women go n line up to be in they video is that smart? I dont think so. Most African American/Latino women have a law self-esteem and thas the truth to it. They dont look at them selves enough in the mirror to say “Im pretty i don need to be in Chingy uncut video”. They think being in video is pretty but if u have nuff esteem then u will knoe tha deal is. We need to respect our selves in order for a white man to respect you n give u a damn job.

If I remember correctly Pamela has been damn near naked in music videos, she also walks around half naked but that’s okay because of whom she is?
Before you knock some learn all you can about them first then you won’t sound like an ass while assuming about them.
Another thing I wanted to touch on is how in the hell is comparing Blacks and whites like comparing a crippled to a Harvard grad???

“White girls in videos are called models..Black girls in videos are called hoes..”

In somewhat sense is kind of true. There is a certain degree black women go further than white girls do in videos..we shouldn’t have to exploit ourselves to be seen or heard of. Be professional. Respect your body. How often do you see a white girl “bumpin’ and grindin’” with no panties on a rapper. Hardly ever!

This girl Claudia appears in some videos and half naked on a magazine then turn around and complain about being sterotyped as a video hoe….AGAIN: Dont hang out in crack houses, then expect people to believe you dont smoke crack..

Back to that Harvard and Cripple comment….Please dont take it out of text…you know damn well what I’m talking about…And YES, Blacks are the crippled ones..

I respect Claudia for working hard and trying to get her name out there. I don’t know her to be calling her a video ho and everything. However, what she says and what she is doing is hypocritical. She looks like a straight up “video girl” in these pics and that’s sad because she sounds intelligent. It’s not the path I would take to fame and fortune, but I guess for some people, it’s the easy way up, and hell, she’s got the face and body for it so I ain’t hatin. =)

LIZZ I think it is the magazine more than the pics. You google her and you will see hundreds of pics of her in similar clothing, but they are at the beach, in a studio, etc.
I hear all of you talking, but it is good to be reminded sometimes that you cannot judge a book by its cover.
So be it

63.

Sunday, October 29, 2006 /

that’s my point, if people judge books by their covers, why would you want to pose on the cover of these types of magazines, and then tell people that yo don’t wanna be known as a “video ho”? i know she means well, but it just sounds fishy to me.

besides, how many people really take the time out of their day to google a model off of the cover of smooth, honey, maxim whatever unless they looking for more sexy pictures lol i did google her life story, and some of it is impressive…but other people may not do that, and just judge her posing half naked. i’m just saying maybe posing for a men’s magazine and talking all that talk isn’t the wisest idea.

AINT NO GODDAMN MAN lol

Anyways I just hate how when white women do things it’s consider art ie. posing on the cover of a magazine in a bikini but when another race does it it’s a negative thing.

Awwww. Some of the comments about me almost made me sad if I didn’t know any better. Well… if you see my spread in the magazine… you will see there were no “ass tooted in the air shots”… I do not do them EVER. Matter fact that is the first thing I told me publicist when she approaced me about doing the cover of Smooth. I come from a pageant background, and my mother was hella strict…and why the hell would I want to do that anyways??? And I wasn’t talking about myself being called a “video hoe” cause up until this thread… I have never been called that. I was actually defending others. But whatever. You GOT TO READ the entire piece and quit judging others while you hide behind a screen name. One thing that has always made feel good about my limited “video experie nce” was that I always played the lead…didnt dance and was always approaced by teenage girls telling me that they like that I have NEVER played myself out in any of the videos I have done and I have always managed to play classy roles. I have worked my ass off for everything I got. In college as a journalism major, as a dj for my station, as a reporter for the only black newspaper in my state. As an all-american in Track and field…and now as a homeowner 3 times over.I have worked hard and taken NO SHORT CUTS. I am one of the most conservative women you will ever see in Smooth. The shots were tasteful and classy and I wouldn’t have it any other way. Now I am not being a hypocrite…I realize I do what I do. I am a model…and when I am MODELING I know what I am being hired for…it’s one dimensional…it’s Just for looks. And that is why I seek other work to fulfil me somewhat. I work as a reporter, a host. I have hosted the weekend show for Extra, been a corespondent for the Best Damn Sports show, and produced a show that grants wishes to sick kids as well as a fantasy football show for ESPN. Videos were one small percentage of all the things I have done. But for some silly reason…that is what is being talked about so passionately. I don’t want to run down my resume… cause beleive it or not… it’s kind of long and I am not trying to Big time or anthing like that. But these types of mean and hateful comments were exactly the hell what I was talking about. HOW WE DO THIS NEGATIVE SHIT TO OURSELVES! A white woman does whatever…and we support…and some of us jock it. But lil ole me poses in a CONSERVATIVE FULL BOTTOM SWIMSUIT and I am accused of acting like a hoe? Ok whatever… I feel pitty for those who aren’t enlighted enough to see past their dark lil worlds. And to those that defended me and resisted the urge to be TYPICAL and hate… well I appreciate you. I really do. It does mean a lot to me. I would love to see more people be open minded, accepting and not so one dimensional and quick to throw salt…and it warms my heart to see a few on this particular board that I stumbled across. Either way… hey I am used to taking the good with the bad. I haven’t been in the game 12 years for nothing! I am totally prepared to take the good with the bad
Peace….and hopefully one day unity!
