I think people are mistaking scars or differences for being genuine/humble/true. Yes - if you have something about yourself that make you different than other people you do tend to see the world in a different way and you do tend to be a little bit more kind BUT that does not mean that the person is an automatic genuine person [as most people in this thread seem to be saying].
