Malawian crop-worker Yohane Banda, father of 13-month-old baby David, has said he only agreed to let the singer raise the child on his behalf until he was old enough to return to his family.
Yohane is quoted by Britain’s Daily Mail newspaper as saying:
“Had they told us that Madonna wanted to adopt my son and make him her own son, we would not have agreed to that. It would have been better for him to continue staying at the orphanage because I see no reason why my child should be given away forever when I can feed him.”
Maxwell Matewere, rights activist and director of Eye of the Child, told AFP that Mr. Banda is illiterate and didn’t understand the word adoption.
Mr Banda’s U-turn comes as a legal battle is about to be launched by a human rights campaign group who believe Madonna sidestepped Malawian adoption procedures.
I was wondering how the hell she got a kid so fast, when it takes other people months (even years) to officially adopt a child.
In related news, Madonna will be taping an episode of Oprah on Tuesday, to talk about this whole “adoption” thing. So make sure you look out for that.

I also did’nt read the whole post, BUT, How can he leave his child at the orphanage while he’s able to feed him?? I mean if he has a place to sleep, why can’t the child also sleep there?. This guy is definitely crazy!
I think modonna should just give the kid back to his father!! Cos one day the kid gonna turn around and say where is my family? where do I come from? etc.. he gonna say dat cos he gonna know that modonna is not his mother! (colour different). So what is Modonna gonna say “oh sorry son i adopted you and your father wanted you back but I refused.” She should save herself the trouble cos when the kid grows up he is gonna start hating her for refusing to give him back to his father.

Also alot of kids who gets adopted later when they grow up start looking for their real parent and family.

that’s how it works in Africa a lot of times. This is what a lot of people are missing. They are trying to analyze his perspective from a Western point of view. But this is very common in Africa, someone whose family does not have much money is raised by a wealthier family member or person. The child usually does come back and usually does send money back to the parent(s) to take care of the parents. This is VERY common amongst Africans. Adoption is far less common.

reality is david will be raised by a nanny and tutors, madge wont even take care of the child. yes he will be fed, clothed, educated but he will hav no concept of his culture/identity and probly wont even be cared for by his mother (madge).

anyway i am in no way comparing the plight of a human being to that of an animal BUT
i remember when i put my dog up for adoption because i could no longer take care of him and i went home and cried like a fucking baby all weekend and when i went back the following monday to try and get him back he was already adopted and i was miserable for 2 months straight (i still get sad thinking about him)
my point is sometimes we do things and in hindsight we realize it was the wrong decision
i think david’s dad knew what he was doing initially but i think he regretted the decision after the family got on him for allowing the adoption and then maybe he really evaluated the situation thereafter and realized he wasnt making the right choice afterall

His son was at the orphanage because the mother died and the son had a fever and the father feared that the baby had malaria which his other son died of so he brought him to the orphanage hoping that he would get better there. He is illiterate and that is why he did not know what the word adoption meant. It was also said that he listened to the government when he signed the adoption papers they told him that his son would be returned to him. He is a potato farmer and he was going to remove his son from the orphanage once he got back on his feet. Some people are acting as though it is impossible that he did not understand what he was getting himself into. Anyway I hope how ever this turns out it is in the best interest of the child because in the end that’s what really matters.

David had spent most of his life in an orphanage with 500 other orphans. Madonna didn’t know the state of David’s health when she was visiting Malawi and considering adopting David. She brought a pediatrician to test all of the children’s health for their overall well being, and later learned that David tested negative for tuberculosis, malaria, HIV and other common illnesses striking African orphans.
“When I met him, he was extremely ill,” Madonna says. “He had severe pneumonia, and he could hardly breathe. I was in a state of panic, because I didn’t want to leave him in the orphanage because I knew they didn’t have medication to take care of him. We got permission to take him to a clinic to have a bronchial dilator put on him. … He had pneumonia and was given an injection of antibiotics. He’s still a little bit ill, not completely free of his pneumonia, but he’s much better than he was when we found him.”
So she basically saves the child’s life and some people have the nerve to talk shit about her and question her motives? What baby’s life have you saved? What baby have you adopted?

I take it you saw the Oprah show as well. I agree with you for the most part at the same time though I do think she is lying about certain things.It was so much hesitation comming from her when commenting about the matter. Oprah just ran with it and did not question anything @ all. Also I the father in my opinion did not understood the paperwork in question.
I think Madonna would have been better off attempting to adopt a parentless child, not a 1-year-old with a living (and probably soon to be demanding) father.
Still I honestly dont know why children (A.American) children cant be adopted. There are plenty of children here in the US that need homes and dying with diesaes.

Adoption in africa has been going on for years before a celebrity did and will continue after they do it. How is it fad when its been happening for years and years? The only reason we know when people like Jolie or Madonna adopt is because they are famous.
