Damn, wasn’t it just yesterday that my girl Jada was rocking the blue streaks and rocker look? Now she is all dolled up in attendance at the Redbook 2006 Strength and Spirit Awards (held today in NYC). Talk about a woman with many different looks. I like this Jada better, because she isn’t trying so hard.

I agree with Mika. She’s just changing her style to fit the event that she’s at. Her look in these pics are certainly not rock. She’s just versatile in her appearance and that’s a good thing. Shows that she can be classy when she needs to be and a nutty, outrageous punk rocker when necessary. Nothing wrong with rockin different looks. She’s a beautiful woman no matter what.

Both looks are good, they just have different purposes.
When Jada rocks out it makes no sense for her to be all glammed up and when she’s hitting the hollywood red carpet she always looks pulled together. I get confused sometimes when I see the posts hating on Jada when she’s working with her rock band. I mean how is she supposed to look? Cause if you look at most female rockers they look pretty wild on stage – that’s what the “audience” wants. She’s not doing Hip-Hop or R&B. Is it not cool for her to be in rock band becuase she’s black? Is that what you’re saying? I’m not sure becuase your post doesn’t seem to address the issue within it’s context.
There’s strength in diversity. We come in a range a shades and experiences that’s the beauty in being black.

I hear your point, but my take is:
When she’s with her rock band, she doesnt have to be all glammed up, but dammit, she aint got to look all “helter skelter” either, maybe she can look a little funky, i’ve seen rock bands that don’t look as scary as that satanic looking band….i seen some pictures of her a few months ago, and she fuckin looked possessed! I’m sorry, you know black folk don’t play that grunge look shit, just straight demonic to us! We can’t relate…most of us came from the south, or either or parents did, and we were taught to run praying away from folk that look like that!
I can deal with the THUGGED OUT JADA and the CLASSY JADA, but not WICKED WISDOM…sorry, i just don’t see the fuckin point..are black people buying this god-forsaken album anyway!

I hear ya. I’m from the South and I love your site. I love all music, grew up sanging and playing piano in the Baptist church. I saw the Killers and Queens of The Stone Age last year with a posse of black folk and we had a great time. It’s just not a glammed out scene and rock fans accept that. I thought the braids WERE to make it funky. LOL
NOW Wicked Wisdom… I’m out in Cali and probably one of the few people who have actually seen the band perform. I don’t beleive they have an album out yet, but have been tourring in order to build up support to get a major label release. As a rock conniosseur, Living Color they ain’t. Jada has a lot presence and she gets to express issues in her lyrics that don’t get covered in Hip-Hop and R&B, which I believe is why she was attracted to the rock format. But sis can’t sing, rock, R&B or whatever and at the end of the day that what music fans really care about. It comes off as more of a vanity project.
And there is a point, it may inpsire some young sista’s who have the talent and want to rock out to not be scared that black folks will mock them and STEP OUT. A big part of unity is acceptence; that we are a part of a large beautiful tent. Beside, WE INVENTED THIS ROCK SHIT ANYWAY LIKE EVERYTHING ELSE THAT IS COOL IN THE USA!!!!
