Dreamgirls came out in the early 80’s, and she was pissed about it then (of course) because it’s obvious that the play was loosely based on The Supremes. However, Beyonce has nothing to do with having Dreamgirls made into a movie: she didn’t write it, she’s not the head of the movie studio, and I doubt she personally had anything to do with bringing the movie to fruition. The last time I checked a person who’s starred in a film is dubbed an actor/actress..end of debate. If you truly don’t like Beyonce, it’s ok to just say “I don’t like Beyonce”. All the ranting was just nuts….

And to compare Bey’s formula for success with another singer/actress (Aaliyah) who did it first seemed a bit hypocritical. Beyonce is now where Aaliyah was 5 years ago. No one here has seen this movie to say if she is Oscar worthy or not. Her previous works weren’t all bad, but they weren’t all great either. What I do know is that Beyonce has had a longing passion to play Deena. Anybody that will loose 20 damn pounds in two weeks for a movie when the director didn’t ask them to proves just how personally serious this role was for her.She could’ve been working with acting coaches to step her game up. I don’t know why people are making a big deal about the movie “DreamGirls”, usually when people do that the movie ends up floppin’. I’m sick of hearin’ about Beyonce anyway move on to the next person. What makes them think she will even get an Oscar nomination, I mean Halle & Denzal just up and got their’s. I think she needs to do a couple more movies that are worth even going to the movies and seeing. I’m too lazy to read all the comments or even most of the comments at this point. I heard that way back when the “Dreamgirls” the broadway play first came out, she didn’t even stay for the whole play. She walked out because she felt like they portrayed her negatively or something to that effect. That’s purely hearsay but it has been said that she didn’t like Dreamgirls.

I don’t think she’d go as far as trying to sabotage Beyonce just for portraying her doppelganger, Deena Jones.

I don’t believe this rumor- J. Taborelli’s reasoning makes more sense. Diana Ross has had almost 30 years now to gripe about whether or not the stuff in Dreamgirls is true. Why should she worry about this now- even if she doesn’t like the story or approve of it, having this new movie come out now can’t do any more damage to her now than it did back in 1981.

If anything, it would have been more damaging back then and you see she still got through it.

I am not hating on Beyonce, b/c the girl can sing (she proved that when she sung at the oscar one year). However, from her last acting roles she is far from oscar material. I don’t think all the acting lessons and coaching in the world could have gotten her ready for an oscar.

Thirdly it has an allstar black cast, its a musical, its a semi-biopic, and its retro…which The Academy Award Voters love…..

Okay, i stand corrected…i haven’t heard anyone else mention this film and oscar in the same breath but bey. But if you say so, i believe you.

But still, i haven’t heard anyone else pluggin or talking about this movie like bey. I haven’t heard jamie foxx, eddie murphy, or any of the other actors “hyping” this film as bey has been doing. She’s been pluggin the hell out of the film and mentioning herself and oscar in the same sentence. And in her interviews, she can elect not to talk about it, so it’s obviously something she’s trying to plug.

At the end of the day, while the movie’s director, jamie foxx, and whoever might be oscar worthy, i still say if bey hasn’t stepped up her acting skills (and by the trailer she’s no where in the ball park of a oscar) there’s no way SHE will get an oscar - so Ms. Ross can sit down on this one..no need to campaign cause bey’s acting skills leaves muuuuuuuch to be desired. Point blank and put bluntly, “bitch can’t act!” Bless her heart for trying though.

I think she is a good singer for the type of music she sings, but it isn’t “deep” enough for me. Her songs are quite basic IMO. I don’t mind a simple dance tune now and then, but generally I like songs with a little more meaning. Also, I can’t stand the way she dances. It doesn’t seem natural. She looks like she’s in a fight most of the time. She is not very graceful.

Am I the only one on here that sees the irony of this topic? Why do these two women have any issue with each other at all? Isn’t this the best example ever of life imitating art for these two? (And, no, I don’t mean art imitate life).

First, if Bey wins an Oscar, it will most likely be for the music in Dreamgirls, not necessarily for her performance. I’m not saying she can’t act, but she still has a way to go. To me at least. Then again, she has been bitchin since early this year that she wants to win an Oscar so bad, so who knows. We’ll just have to see.

Second, this rumor came from the UK. Heellllooo??? Yall know these British “journalists” like to create chaos and make up stuff. I don’t believe this is all true. I agree with much of what’s said here. Beyonce is IN NO WAY an Oscar winning actress, and I’ve heard no one mention giving her one! You can’t have lame movie performances like in Pink Panther and Fighting Temptations and expect to do one good movie and win an Oscar! Besides, “acting” like a girl-group member who neglects her bandmates in search of solo superstardom, isn’t exactly “acting” for Beyonce..more like reality! The movie will not sell…at all; and I’m being forreal about it. As almost all of you have already said; this movie is full of singers and comedians; how can this movie possibly be taken seriously? The soundtrack will not sell simply because both Beyonce’ & Jennifer Hudson take power ballads WAY too far. The other girl, who funnily no one seems to mention at all will also be another reason as to why this movie will not sell. To have one “MAJOR” star and then two practical nobodies along side for the ride is kind of embarassing don’t you think. So why would anybody think this was Oscar worthy w/o Diana’s input in the first place. The last time Eddie Murphy played a dramatic role was in Michael Jackson’s “remember the times” video and well; he practically looked like he was gonna laugh/do something stupid through out the entire event.

To put it point-blank this movie and the story is a complete rip off of “Sparkle” and Diana’s story and I’ll be glad when Raven-Symone can find the time to start filming the remake off it because well unlike Beyonce’ she is confirmed to be a good actress and a terrific singer too.

Well, Beyonce did not deliver on her promise of showing us she can act. Jennifer Hudson is a natural who has the singing voice that drowns b. Jennifer can out sing her any day of the week.
She deserves the Golden Globes and the Other award she won I think it’s Critics Choice Award. She may not get the Oscar, but she was nominated for it. Beyonce wasn’t and she won’t win anything from this movie. She is not a good actor at all. I tried to be fair and give her a chance, but she did not deliver at all. Anyone could have played her part and done better.
