SHOW JAY WHATCHA’ GOT!
Friday, October 6, 2006

Jay-Z is out of retirement and has returned with his new single, “Show Me What You Got.” I really love the production, I haven’t decided whether or not I like the song or not. I have to listen to Jay-Z’s verses more than a few times to decide whether or not I like them. But I’m a Jay-Z fan. I’m hoping that has album is up to par, because people have been saying that he’s trying to hard recently. I’m not sure what I think yet, but I’d love what you guys have to say about the single. I will form my opinion later, so I’d like to hear what you guys have to say.

Lol, I can already tell I’ma just get pissed off in this post, so I’ma say my piece and me out.
Song is HOT. He came totally different with it. What song on the radio sounds like this? What rap artist has a joint out that is so different like this? Totally has a grown and sexy feel, and it’s something you can dance to.
The saxophone by Chad Hugo… the Wrecks N Effects sample. The Public Enemy sample. The drums. And the flow.
Sorry… but this song is hot, and you might not appreciate it now, but you will.
And it will be a number 1 song.
Yup!

Don’t too much care for any of Jay-Z songs. The only one I really cared for was “Song Cry”.
I can’t see ‘em comin down my eyes
So I gotta make the song cry
I can’t see ‘em comin down my eyes
So I gotta make the song cry
Good dudes - I know you love me like cooked food

I’m listening to it again, the first time it kept “stutting”(skipping)….anyway,so far I love the lyrics;no surprise there. Right now,at this moment…I will have to hear this track a few more times,to really give a heartfelt comment.I saved it so my husband can hear it. He loves whatever Jay-Z puts out. Someone did mention on a post above, that it sounds like a “leftover”- I will have to agree with that statement. ***But I’m sure he”ll have some heat, for the winter(that’s what he said) so I’ll keep waiting…………****RUBBING HANDS TOGETHER****

Sesamestreet the sample is from a Public Enemy song called “Show Em’ Whatcha Got”. N2Deep and Wrecks n Effect used this too. I’m loving this song it could because it uses real instruments. It reminds me of “Encore” which was my summer jam last year.

HUGE Jay-Z fan, but since Blueprint #1, he has been dropin shit I don’t really like which is not good because I am one of his only ORIGIONAL fans in Los Angeles County LOL!!!
I think after BLUEPRINT, he got very comfortable and rich and stopped tryin. Or is it that he and his girlfriend are really good with the Smoke and Mirrors act and were never really all that good in the first place? I don’t know but what they have been droppin’ lately is a bunch of BULLSHIT (except for Beyonce’s latest white girl POP single that I am kind of feelin’).
But everyone must get a reality call eventually!! What ever happened to superstars like Michael, Janet and Madonna who travel the world, she whats new and incorporate different styles to their music, and only put out an new album every 3-4 years instead of this rushed SHIT everyone is feeding us now?

Nas got more deep lyrics but his flow doesnt compare to jigga’s at all, nas sounds like hes gasping for breath whenever he “attempts to switch flows. im not sayin he aint nice, hes one of the best ever
but when u talkin bout versatility…can rhyme on almost any beat, has the ability to go deep or make a feel good club banger..that is HOV…
no im not a stan…just my taste…Nas is nice as hell ..hes flow is boring at time…but he can hit u with intellectual lyrics and wordplay..but HIPHOP is way more than that. For this reason hes kinda one dimensional…he doesnt pull off club bangers well..His style is one thing…hes a poet…dont expect non else..

BashyBoo Number 48, stop hating on the DIRTY SOUTH, FOR YOUR MAMA’S MAMA PROBALLY CAME FROM HERE. THIS IS ABOUT JAYZ’S REVIEW.
DOES ANYONE THINK HE WOULD REPEAT HIMSELF, BY SAYING “MICHAEL JORDAM OF RECORDING”, AND NOT KNOW?
HE KNOWS, AND HAS EVERY RIGHT TO, FOR MIKE JONES SAYS HIS NAME 100 TIMES ON A TRACK, WHO?
I THINK HE IS ATTACKING THE RAP GAME AT A DIFFERENT ANGLE, BUT IF YOU NOTICED HE SAID “GIVE THE DRUMMER SOME, I ALREADY GAVE THE SUMMER SOME , ITS THE WINTERS TURN”.
IF YOU FOLLOW MUSIC, THEN YOU WOULD KNOW HE HAD THE TRACK “DEAR SUMMER”, AND THAT WAS A FREESTYLE TRACK ON HOT 97 IN NEW YORK, WHICH HE LATER RELEASED ON MIX CDS SINCE THE OTHER DJS WERE BOOTLEGGING IT.
JAY IS FULL OF SURPRISES AND WHEN HE SAID “THIS IS A STATE OF EMERGENCY” AND “YOU GOT 2 MONTHS, GOOD LUCK”, THATS SIMPLY A WARNING TRACK TO OTHER MCS AND LISTENERS.
OVER ALL, IT IS STILL, FOR THE GROWN AND SEXY, AND I BET THE CD WILL BE IN EVERYONES COLLECTION.
AND I WILL SAY, I BET IT BECOMES NUMBER 1, THE ALBUM THAT IS.

He’s had way better beats and way better lyrics…I’m no stan but I appreciate his lyrical skills. This sounds very much like stuff he’s already done and is no longer exciting. The beat’s not even that hot. When you set the bar high, people expect it to stay that way.
But as I’ve said before Jigga’s stans especially the male ones, are above and beyond anyone else’s.

To TruthBtold AND SoopDawg, you are welcome. When I found the news break I had to let you all know, and that means someone may leak his entire album.
But for some reason, i think he may have leaked it.
Jay-Z and many other artist are notorious for leaking their music, and always say they dont know how it happened, and they will admit they did themselves when they so call retire.
But if he did, he may be chopping his own head off, for he is not just an artist, he was given power by L.A. Reid and the powers that be, and he can be stripped and fined at anytime, for the law is involed in searching for the leaking individual who started this.
FOR ANYONE CURIOUS ON WHAT SAMPLES (JUST BLAZE) USED FOR THE NEW (JAY-Z) SONG FOLLOW THE NEWS BREAK BELOW:

I’ve been hearing this song all day (radio stations in the DC area have been playing this song TWICE/THREE times every hour)…
The beat/sample is nice but his wordplay is not up to par…at least it’s not like how it usually is…
I’m not gonna say Jay-Z fell the fuck off because of one leaked song that may not even make the album unlike others…I’ll wait to the offical album drops before I make any final decisions about him.
However, I’m MAD pissed that Nas’ album gets pushed back to December to make way for Jay-Zs. And being that there’s no single out for Hip-Hop Is Dead, I wouldn’t even be surprised if Nas’ album doesn’t come out til early ‘07…

umm I said only people 21 and under think he is the GREATIST anyone can like his songs, but does your mother know anything about where rap originated from?
The only good cd he came out with is reasonable doubt all the rest were not that great. I am not saying he is the worst rapper b/c there are definitely some who are terrible , but I lot of young people in their early 20s know NOTHING about where rap originated from who were the REAL RAPPERS and calling Jay Z the greatest is RIDICULOUS>
RAKIM is the greatest alive
Biggie was the Greatest lyricist
Tupac was the greatest Story teller

I’m annoyed, I had to stop it. I still think he has a kinderdarten flow.
The whole separation of music by region is whack as hell too. It’s only blacks that says the b.s. like “I’m tired of the south/east coast” or “when is the east coast coming back?” Who really cares, I see all hiphop as one and it’s really not that serious. However, this song is really lame.

RAKIM HAS NOT HAD A HIT SINCE ERIC B. AND RAKIM WERE TOGETHER, AND HE TRIED COME BACKS, BUT NOONE WAS FEELING HIM. THE ONLY TIME HE WANTS TO RECORD IS WHEN HE OWES MAD CHILD SUPPORT, AND THATS WHY DR. DRE DROPPED HIM FROM AFTERMATH RECORDS.
RAKIM WAS COOL, BEFORE, BUT THE PRODUCTION FROM ERIC B., WAS THE MAIN FACTOR.
AS FOR KRS ONE, HE IS ONE OF THE GREATS, FOR HE WAS ONE THAT BIG,2PAC, AND MANY OTHERS LOOKED UP TO, INCLUDING MOS DEF,COMMON,JAYZ,NAS AND KWELI, SO NEVER DISS THE BLAST MASTER, OF THE BATTLE RAP, FOR HE HELP START THAT.
THATS ONE REASON NAS WENT AFTER JAYZ IN THE “EITHER” SONG, FOR JAY USED THE SAME TITLE, “THE BLUEPRINT” WHICH SHOULD HAVE BEEN TITLED, “THE BITE ME PRINT” THOUGH IT WAS A GOOD ALBUM.
RESPECT THOSE WHO STARTED THE GAME, FOR YOU WERE JUST A THOUGHT, WHEN THEY WERE ROCKING THE MIC, PAVING THE WAY.
AND THE WHOLE EAST/WEST/SOUTH THING IS BLOWING UP, FOR MANY ARE FALLING FOR THE SAME TREND THAT LED TO 2PACS AND BIGGIES DEATH, ON THAT,
WHAT COAST IS THE REAL HIP HOP.
BY NOW EVERYONE SHOULD BE PROUD OF HIP HOP, AND EACH OTHER, FOR ITS UNIVERSAL, SO WHATS NEXT, FRANCE,UK, AFRICA, AGAINST THE U.S. RAP. ITS ALL STUPID TO ARGUE THE COAST ISSUE FOR AMERICA IS THE ONLY PLACE TO SHOW THIS SEPERATION.
THE EAST HAD IT ALL ONCE, THEN THE WEST COAST, MID WEST, AND NOW SOUTH, BUT RAP SHOULD BE UNTIED NOT SEGREGATED LIKE RACES.
MY BROTHAS AND SISTAS ARE THE ONLY ONES FOLLOWING THE COAST BICKERING IN RAP, AND OTHER RACES LOOK AT IT ALL, AS IF RAP WAS BASKINS AND ROBBINS, WITH A SELECTION OF DIFFEENT FLAVORS TO CHOSE FROM FOR THEY APPRECIATE THE ARTISTRY MORE THE OUR OWN PEOPLE.
BOTTOM LINE IF ITS GOOD MUSIC, REGARDLESS OF LOCATION, I WILL SUPPORT, AND IF ITS A BAD SELECTION, JUST MOVE ON TO THE NEXT.
AND FOR THOSE SAYING, “HIP HOP IS DEAD” WHICH MANY ARE REPEATING BECAUSE NAS AND MANY EAST COAST RAPPERS SAY THIS, IS CRAZY.
THEY SAID HIP HOP WAS JUST A FAD AND WOULD NOT LAST IN THE 80′S AND ITS NOW 2006, AND DOMINATING THE ENTERTAINMENT WORLD.
LUDA BEAT JANET JACKSON,JUSTIN, AND MANY MORE ARTIST THIS WEEK FOR THE NUMBER ONE SPOT, AND HE IS SOUTHERN.
HIP HOP NEVER DIES, IT EVOLES.

What does that matter? we all have potential to do big things in our lives, but just because he heads a record company, clothing line blah blah blah, dosent mean thats a reason to like his crappy single. Just because this guy is a media mogul dosent mean he cant churn out crappy music.
“This sound is like nothing you hear on the radio”
Are you sure about that? those horns are played out and he made a sample of a sample
“U would rather listen to the crap most rappers r putting out right now??? Rap is making a comeback and it’s because of heavyhitters like Jay-Z that people are going to start appreciating rap music!”
Were judging this single, not anyone else and this single sucks. plain and simple. most people tried to listen to it a few times before they could decide wheather they like it or not. If someone has to do that, the song sucks.

Most of the people posting on here have no idea about rap. Listen to the first verse and the second when he breaks it down and talks about today’s rappers…the metaphors he’s dropping are ridiculous. The beat is hot. But, that goes without saying…it’s Just Blaze. This song is fresh and is a new sound for Jay-Z…He’s showing his versatility. Most of you don’t even understand the references that he’s making. This is just another example of what’s wrong with wrap. People don’t listen to lyrics. Hot song. I’m sure the video will be awesome.

He said in the end of the song he giving niccas two months to get their act together. Just like Game ” One Blood” was not a real single, it was a mixtape joint that became popular, so they made a video. As a mixtape single it is hot, but if it is an album single it was average.

I’m sorry, i have serious problems with that cause, unless ice cube, snoop, dmx, cool j, and many others have died, this nigga is straight lying! And i agree, nobody else sounds like jayz, cause when he raps, he sounds like his ass is out of freakin breath (best rapper alive my ass!) People been listening to crap for so long, we have gotten it twisted, thinking a bad beat is the best rap song….i say hell to the naw, jayz can’t blind me and play with my mind with all that marketing and loud catchy beats….if he were to have a rap off with any of the artists i mentioned, he would leave crying! Now as for the song, I am not sure how I feel about it. I honestly love him, but I don’t feel this record will be as strong as his others. In my opinion, he should have just stayed retired I mean he has already proven to be “that nigga”. The rap game is confused right now.
People are snatching up record deals and radio air time like it ain’t nothing.
What has to happen is the public has to take a bigger interest in the music that’s being put out there.
The reason why we are being subjected to snap music; pointless artists; and recycled beats is because we are letting it happen.
The CEOs are the ones with the real power, not these little dime-a-dozen rappers and singers out here.
If you don’t like what you get on the radio 8 times a day, then say something to them.
Because until you do that, THIS will continue.

well it’s like this the song is iight not Jay’s best yet still just because it’s Hov it’s gonna be number 1 but I’d rather wait for Dead Presidents III
and to the fool that said it’s a wrecks n effect sample the original is :
The Lafayette Afro Rock Band “Darkest Light”(1972)
and the drum line is :
Johnny Pate “Shaft In Africa” (1973)
the only thing u got right was the sample of Public Enemy
although if the original had lyrics the illest remix would be to have Chuck D on a verse with Flav goin crazy with Jay on the hook ….. would be a hot video but that is so far fetched anyway I will still cop the album cus it is the perfect setup for Nas to drop his 1st quarter without the pressure I mean he is on Jay’s album in case u didn’t know

*previously sampled by:
Rass Kass-Rasassination
2-Lafayette Afro Rock Band - Darkest Light**

ALL I KNOW IS I DEF. WON’T BE BUYING HIS CD! HOWEVER, I WILL BUY HIS NEW ARTIST CD; LUPE FIASCO. I’VE HEARD SOME OF HIS MUSIC, AND HIS MUSIC HAS A DEEP MESSAGE. ALL I ASK IS THAT WHEN YOU RAP, GIVE ME SOMETHING FOR THE SOUL…IT AINT GOT TO BE TOO DEEP, JUST GIVE ME SOMETHING OF SUBSTANCE…DAMN, IS THAT TOO MUCH TO ASK FOR…I’D LIKE SOMETHING TO GO WITH MY GOOD BEATS THANK YOU. I’M SO SICK OF MONEY, CARS, HOES! AND AT 164 HAHA - YOU’RE DAMN RIGHT, I DON’T UNDERSTAND WHAT JAY’Z IS SAYING, MAYBE HIS MUSIC IS JUST FOR YOUNGER IDIOTS! I’M A LITTLE OLDER, STILL IN 20′S, BUT NEED A LITTLE MORE THAN I REQUIRED WHEN I WAS 16.
