THE NEW MUSIC REVIEW

Q. Amey – Get At You (full) – download
So, I’m still waiting on Q.’s album, but this is a new song that’s been thrown out there, I guess, to tease me. My homie B. Cox produced this joint, and you know I’m a sucker for those. Even though we’ve heard this sample before, I think this is one of the better uses of it. I really have high hopes for Q.’s album. I just want it to drop already. “Forever Girl” (his first single – I posted it before) came out ages ago. There needs to be a new single.

Amerie – Weekend Love (full) – download
A new Amerie mixtape came out to hold people over until the real album drops, but it features two new songs. “Weekend Love” honestly sounds like some old, throwback early ’90′s stuff, which you know I like. It kind of reminds me of the stuff she was supposed to be doing for the TapeMasters, Inc. album that never dropped. I dig this. I wonder if it’ll make her album?

RL (of NEXT) – Phonebook (full) – download
When I first heard this song, it reminded me of the Tyrese song that I posted earlier – and guess why? They’re both R&B tracks produced by Lil’ Jon! I’m glad that Jon stopped using all those horns and stuff (al “Yeah,” “Freek-a-leek,” etc.). Still, I’m not impressed by RL and honestly, I’m even questioning how “new” this song is. I wonder what’s up with all those G-Unit rumors and stuff? Apparently, it fell through…

Dave Young – Never Over (full) – download / Torn (with Letoya) (full) – download
So, you might not know Dave Young as an artist, but he was one of the key writers on Letoya’s #1 single, “Torn” (which is why I included his version here – he sings the second verse!) and he’s worked with a little bit of everyone. “Never Over,” however, is produced again, by the talented Bryan-Michael Cox. It’s a very nice slow-jam. Do me a favor and check Dave out on MySpace!

I’m getting excited about Amerie’s return, everything I’ve heard so far has been solid.

Dave Young is a Talent,(he’s actually signed to Mary J. Blige’s label) great melodies and he can sang live.

    RL -> whatever Nigga

    Q.Annie just bores me.

  2. I’m looking forward to Dave Young… I’ve heard him on a couple of Mary joints. Dude can sing

  3. Seahn-Carter A

RL and that damn cowboy hat….AGAIN…when will he ever learn

  4. stedine

that amerie joint is on the same track as Cam’s song “Weekend Girl” which I have been bumping for a minute

  5. gezzy

Q iz cool he’s really down to earth but the album iz never coming.

  6. stedine

on another note… why is RL looking like he was doing a promo shoot for Brokeback Mountain II?

  7. i absolutely LOVE dave young…ever since the breakthrough & “alone” came out. he has little hints of ol’school stevie in his voice. people need to stop sleepin’ on REAL talent. thanx for this post BRIAN!!!

  8. jackie

i’m so feeling the stuff amerie’s been putting out lately. i think it was a good move on her part for putting out this mixtape to show that she still gots it.

“weekend girl” reminds me of “computer love” a little bit. i’m liking this early ’90s vibe she’s giving.

  9. Bernice

This is more a general comment and not necessarily one on the music. Brian, I absolutely love you. You have no idea how excited I get when I see New Music on the site. I had just finished doing my HW for class and was just about to go to bed when I was like let me check my Loop and what do you know New Music. That’s all.

  10. Gin Gin

I like the Amerie track, very nice – I’ll get to the rest later I guess…

  11. About time R.L. came back. His song is nice. I miss Next too. I hope they are working on something new too, since they just signed to Methew Knowles’ World Music World label.

Dave Young is great. I loved that song he did with Mary J. on The Breakthrough. I tried looking for more information about this Dave Young, but couldn’t find anything. Thanks Brian.

This is the first song that I’ve heard from Amerie that I like.

Q.Amey’s song is nice…but how many times are artists gonna sample MJ’s Human Nature song? It’s a nice song though.

    Nice post Brian.

  12. bigbumpaa

The Amerie track is crazzzyy.. her album will definatly deliver..

  13. Honey

The original to Amerie’s song is done by the SOS band (a group in the late seventies, eighties). I like her version!

  14. akindagirl

I don’t like his voice as much on Torn, I guess its because I’ve heard it a million times with just her voice…but I am feeling him on his own. I can’t wait for the album, should be nice and we need some new baby making music out there…

  15. Amerie has seriously lost the plot with that mixtape, talking about how great her pen game is (why isn’t she writing for others then?) and how everyone is biting her lol listen to “because i love it” and tell me she’s not calling out Beyonce (green light anyone?). Plus everyone knows she’s not gangsta so she really needs to cut the crap and come on down to earth….

  16. Queshia

I am feeling the Amerie song with the old school beat.
It hits close to home Even when you married you have have weekend love.

  17. TootieB

    Ok Babies,
Time for an old skool lesson. Amerie’s song is a urbaned up version of S.O.S. Band’s song Weekend Girl, which came out in the mid 80′s. The background vocals are from the original song.

Please try and find SOS Band’s greatest hits if you can. They were a great band and a lot of their tracks have been lifted and used now.

Angela La – luv u’r site baby!!!

  18. Asentha

RL should sit down!! His career is so over.

  19. tha future

yo wassup brian im still lookin forward to that clutch interview..im a fellow writer and i respect their work and production!!!!

  20. jscene

I’m excited her amerie’s return, though dammit, i hope they give her fair airplay, and i hope her record label promotes her fairly.

  21. I am really feelin all the new stuff Amerie is putting out. Can’t wait for her album. This song has a good message.

“Boy stop! You ain’t the only one with shit to do. I’ll see your ass on Friday.”

  22. Comton_Chick23

    Dave Young sounds nice.

And I love that old school flavor and Amerie’s cute voice, I hope she doesnt get played over by that non-singing Cassie. But Amerie and Ciara are really steppin there vocal game up this year.

  23. johnny

^ lol @ #22. ciara is NOT stepping her vocal game out. that chick still sounds the same… weak and with no adlibs or runs.

but i’m really feeling that amerie joint. it is indeed a cover, but it’s a nice, updated one. i went to her myspace and checked out her whole mixtape and i must say that it’s really dope. and whether some want to recognize it or not, she was bitten off of by ___________ and _______________.

  24. first post

ameries song reminds me of tevin campbell- can we talk…. i like all her songs on this upcoming album so far

  25. Nat

ameries track is so good. i hope its on the cd!

  26. Comton_Chick23

Oops! I AM SO SORRY EVERYONE I MUST’VE BEEN ON SOMETHIN WHEN I SAID CIARA WAS STEPPIN HER VOCAL GAME UP LOL! AMERIE AND ONLY AMERIE IS STEPPIN HER GAME UP.

  27. Amerie is coming out so tight. I can not wait for her Cd to drop. She can jam anyway people be sleeping on her but she can actully jam.

RL.. Naw im cool on him but hes still kinda cute LOL

Dave young..he is so smooth I like him and he can sing

  28. ChillyJ

I’m lovin’ Amerie’s song, it reminds me of better music from the 90′s! I hope it makes it onto her album.

  29. tha future

    yo wassup Brian,

when is the interview with clutch being posted?!

  30. jen

this sample was used by some artist who neva came out a while back calles ‘weekend girl’ I think her name was meagan and it was featuring 3LW. (Brian check that out) but it was wack compared to this! but i love Amerie and this version is most definitely betta!!!

eagerly anticipating the release of this album…

  31. audifox6 oto

The only thing that kills me with Amerie is the fact that she can’t sing in my opinion. She sounds better in this song but still. Her voice just…ugh. This rest of the song is aight. Sample’s not bad.

RL–ha. Interesting concept. I’ve always liked his voice but not sure if this song is right for him “i got on a beater and some sweat pants” lol. boy stop

  32. Trina

    @31
Looks like we’ve gotta HATER!…Amerie can sing its just that you don’t know what a good singer is, your picture of a good singer is Ciara (who can’t sing to save her damn life if she depended on it).

  33. the amerie track is murder

i love q. amey for the record as well. i met him a few months back in chicago and the boy is VERY talented… cool dude too

i’ve heard about 10 tracks from him and i love all of them. don’t sleep on the kid!!!!

  34. Misi Dat Chick

OMG @ people not knowing the Weekend love is a remake especially with Angela Windbush or whoever that is looped on the hook part.

  35. Falling in love with Weekend Love… I hope this is on her album!!!
