VIDEO: JAY-Z - SHOW ME WHAT YOU GOT

Monday, October 16, 2006

spotted @ Nah Right

Check out the premiere of Jay’s new video for ‘Show Me What You Got’ directed by F. Gary Gary. The quality kinda sucks but, you can still see it’s a neat vid…makes me like the song a tad bit more.

LMAO @ #2 and #5!!! I agree 110% with both of ya’ll!!!

Let me apologize to Jay-Z fans in advance…as a matter of fact just skip this post cause you are not gonna like what I’m about to type sorry!

I miss the “old” Jay-Z the man who was actually passionate about the music! I mean he used to be so damned focused and sorry to say this but the last 5 years have been his lyrical worst! I mean people be blowing up his lil verses that he drops like that shit is REALLY hot!

Ummm…maybe he’ll have a good verse every now and then but it ain’t nothing like it used to be! After The Blueprint shit just went downhill…

I think people are expecting this album to be real special but the old Jay fans that have been down since those “Ain’t No Nigga” days may be very disappointed!!!

Come on Jay light our fire…

Same shit on the upper level.

I co-sign with #13 to the fullest. I will even go as far to say that his shit ain’t been right since “In My Lifetime”. I miss “Reasonable Doubt Jay”.

This R&B hook rapper should have stayed retired simply because he has nothing NEW to say. Yes we know your rich, yes, we know you love yourself, yes, we know you can afford to leave Marcy Projects now…..but the shit ain’t NEW.

Recycled just like the beat.

I will say a big THANK YOU for not giving “you know who” a cameo. Her hair would not have been able to withstand the wind in the car or the boat.

JAY HAS SO FELL OFF! I really wish he just sit his ass down somewhere, anywhere with this mediocre mess! While it’s a different concept, how many urban people can RELATE to this video!

His early albums were somewhat tight, but now he seems wayyyyyy more COMMERCIAL AND GENERIC, like he’s pretending the rap or something! He’s obviously taking advice from someone, the way he’s been MARKETING himself lately…more crossover, more gimmick-like, he might gain international fans, but he might lose the urban marketing with this fake bull! He’s really starting to make me sick!

I am a true Jay Z fan loved him since i could remember, I knew he was goin to be around for quite some time when he did city is mine video. But half yall haters on here cant be fans because if you were you could see his vision which ya’ll dont, Jay Zs a grown ass man who has evolved in the rap game since he was a boy i hope u wouldnt expect him to be producing the same concept videos as he did back in 98. Get over the past and what he used to do, and appreciate the innovative classy man he is now. Hate him or love him that mans a genius and watch he goin be makin deals with trump in the next 5years

I like the video, but hopefully Jay’s got more than this. Okay we get the MJ comparison, its no longer necessary to say Jordan’s name 800 times on a track.

Looks like he’s also the president of the “I don’t have to try anymore” club.

@22…..just a REAL question. Not trying to start anything but I have gotta know:

What is he saying that makes this so ill?

-the fact that HE makes a lot of $$
-the fact that HE drives nice cars
-the fact that HE plays poker with dime pieces
-the fact that HE is just bragging about….HIMSELF

How does that relate to YOU? I never understood dudes liking songs that Big Up ANOTHER dude.

I am seriuosly just curious. To each his own, you know…..

At least back in the day, he told a story with his rhymes….now he just runs down his resume.

Nah, i’m playing… the video is cool. still not feeling the song though.. its that “and wave”

And for people who say he’s too commercial are damn fools! What rapper doesn’t want his shit played on the radio? Who doesnt want the hot videos? The Money? The platinum albums? Jay-Z never changed yall the ones who changed! Music is about “the moment of time” People loved Jay-Z more back in the day because he was a new breed then! And now since they got use to him and he didn’t change much people get tired of it and start hating! His music matured but it’s still the same don juan smooth flow he’s been spitting even way before “Reasonable Doubt” Jay-z never changed the people did!

Can anybody answer me this? If Jay-Z aint the best who is? T.I. aint because people call him “The Jay-z of the south” Lil wayne isn’t cause he wants to be like him. Nas isn’t because he realized he couldn’t beat him so he joined him at Def Jam, so now Jay-Z is his boss, Young Joc is wack, Ludacris and Young Jeezy are both of his employees, Snoop Dogg can’t spit like he use too, The Game name drops too many people so he’s not talented at all, 50 cent was called out by Jay-z but he never responded cause he’s shook, so who’s left out here? Jay-Z is the greatest of all time face facts! HOVI’S HOME

What should I say? Jay ’s New Video is Money Ain’t A Thang + Bigge Hypnotize + Big Daddy’s Smooth Operator+ Any R&B Video with people dancing in a circle + big name white people to show how I came up = Jay z Show Me What You Got.
Can’t stand Kayne, but he has better videos.

@40 TRY:

Dead Prez
Mos Def
Common

That is 3 right there who are SAYING SOMETHING.

And Jay’s flow did change. Before Reasonable Doubt, that dude had a flow like Humpty Dumpty (there are vidoes to prove it)…NAS taught him how to flow.

Just because you have money now and can floss doesn’t mean you ain’t got no more stories to tell. And when you DON’T have anything else to say….you stay retired. If you call bragging “mature lyrics”, than you got this one.

But like I said….to each his own. You like RIGHT NOW Jay….I like BACK THEN Jay. Agree to disagree….

VIDEO IS HOT…DUDE IS BACK..SAY WHAT YOU WANNA SAY…”REASONABLE DOUBT” IS A DOPE ALBUM. BUT THAT’S NOT ALL HIPHOP IS…YOU HAVE GOT TO BE VERSATILE, IF YOU WANT TO SELL RECORDS AND MAKE MONEY. TIRED OF PPL TALKIN BOUT HE SOLD OUT…LIKE JIGGA SAID..

“I dumb down for my audience
And double my dollars
They criticize me for it
Yet they all yell “Holla”
If skills sold
Truth be told
I’d probably be
Lyricly
Talib Kweli
Truthfully
I wanna rhyme like Common Sense
(But i did five Mil)
I ain’t been rhymin like Common Sense
When your sense got that much in common
And you been hustlin since
Your inception
Fuck perception
Go with what makes sense
Since
I know what i’m up against
We as rappers must decide what’s most impor-tant
And i can’t help the poor if i’m one of them
So i got rich and gave back
To me that’s the win, win
The next time you see the homie and his rims spin
Just know my mind is workin just like them
(The rims that is)”

@aphatty

I’m with you! There’s nothing deep about jayz’s song, and nothing extraordinary about this video. I mean, i was thinking about the questions you posed, and all i could come up with was the fact that jayz is just “big upping” himself! Just like LL said, Jayz is good about promoting Jayz!

And about those questions you posed, jayz stans are not going to really dig deep for a answer to those questions you asked, they are simply going to defend jayz for this mediocre crap he’s putting out.

@D

Yep, i said he’s too fuckin commercial and i didn’t studda. When rappers first came out, rappin was about a damn message, and for the most part, alot of rappers are trying to stick to that cause they know they have to be relateable to their audience. NOW WHEN YOU BECOME COMMERCIAL, you’re trying to relate to a more crossover type audience, everyone included. And there’s nothing per se wrong with that, but that’s not rap’s history! WHO IN THE FUCKIN MARCY PROJECTS CAN RELATE TO THIS VIDEO OR THIS SONG, AND HOW! THIS NIGGA AINT KEEPIN IT REAL, POINT BLANK. And for jayz to call himself a rapper and sell urban clothing, dammit, nigga keep it real! You can’t have everything! Quite frankly his ass is selling out, and i could give less than a care about his ass at this point! HIS MUSIC IS A BUNCH OF SWEETWATER, WATERED DOWN BULL SHIT! I need a little bit more than what he’s offering, who the hell is he to ask people to show him what they got! Nigga please, you aint god, sit your ass down.

I like it. He’s a very successful man so of course he’s going to talk about his wealth and how great he is. I give credit where credit is due and though the song doesn’t have substance, I like it. I refuse to beleive that he ahs fell off. I think he can still rhyme. “Go Crazy remix w/ Young Jeezy”. You CANNOT tell me you didn’t smile at that last line.”Hustlin’ remix w/ Rick Ross”
I’m legendary for wipin wipin that bar so
N*gga just let that chorus go
Thats the Roc right there

@46 - I hear that. I am still waiting for some answers!!

@44 - You may have done yourself a disservice by posting that. You DO realize he is saying that he is dumbing himself down so young knuckleheads will bow down and buy his albums. Honey, that’s NOT a compliment. He is actually saying his audiende is dumb enough to buy his watered down shit because he likes to spend YOUR money.

jscene and aphatty ..whats with this holier than thou attitude…everytime i listen to music i dont want to hear some kinda deep ass message. Most times i do but not every single god damn time. What about havin fun and partyin and chillin…and appreciating good lyrics over a dope beat. WHy’s it always gotta be DEEP. Str8 up i love common, and mos, and kweli, and all of them and id pick them ova club songs anyday. But all these ppl you’re listing all respect Jigga as one of the best rappers ever.

Buy his, Album he has deep songs on there..he always does…jus they arent singles. You put out what makes money and sad but true this is what makes money. True Jay fans know hes more than the money , cash , hoes. He has commented on social issues on every single album to date. So this whole fell off thing is dumb to me..at the end of the day you have got to sell records. If the fans were more inclined towards buyin DEEP records and Deep records only then Common and Kweli & MOS would be PAID.

I just like the fact Jigga can do Both..aint nothin wrong with it..do u see common, Mos or kweli knockin Jay for what he does? It’s not no shake it like a salt shaker lyrics hes spitting..the shit he says does come with its degree of wit and smarts/clever lines.

What’s so funny about what you all are saying is simply this:
Jay z is a Label, He is a business, This is a man that took his fame and fortune and is making career decisions based on how he wants to live… he’s Building an empire for his kids kids kids… They will never live like he did as a child… Don’t knock the hustle… No matter how much you hate show me what you got because It has no deep messages and what not. This is jay… ie BIG PIMPIN… tHIS SHIT IS GOING TO SELL, He has been in this business long enought to know how to market to the radio. So dont sit up here and complain cause the fact of the matter is you need to start taking notes and get your hustle on.
EVERY RAPPER, HAS A COUPLE RECORDS ON THEIR ALBUM FOR THE RADIO. Then they have their real shit as well, for their loyal fans… Every time his “mainstream” record plays on the radio he gains a fan, who will then buy the album.

54.

aphatty

Monday, October 16, 2006 /

Whoa, whoa, whoa…fall back with the Hollier than thou stuff. Not here.

Just because I don’t think Jay has anything else to say doesn’t mean I don’t like club bangers. But if I want to have fun and listen to party music, I’ll go with someone like Luda or Busta….who are GOOD at that shit.

55.

fr3shkix

Monday, October 16, 2006 /

Aphatty i do know what he’s saying by he dumbed out, its pop culture…lil white kids who buy albums for beats. Real hiphop heads know real hiphop….they buy his album for the non singles….the songs like

meet the parents, A week ago, this can’t be life, Renegade, Heart of the City..and others.

But this is a business, as a struggling rapper you have got to make money…you cant make one thing all the time..you gotta switch it up. Jay is great cuz he can do both…and that is why hes so sucessful.

Like i said these same people you are praising…FEEL Jigga’s music so why is it they can respect what he does and yall can’t i dont get it. Half of the rappers that dont like Jay are dumb ass rappers who aint bout shit. Most other respectable ones give him his props.

Kids think it is more important to know how to pop your ass and get the newest car and biggest rims than it is to know what is going on in the world with YOUR people. You wanna party….get your party on. But don’t be the dumbest one there.

#30 and #44 Both good points.
I give Jigga this he gives you something to aspire to. Yes, NASCAR has been doing a big push to get more minorities out the races…I just did a story on it. Interstingly enough I said if Jay-Z gets down with NASCAR so will black folks. Well, there it is…wonder if NASCAR came to him and asked if he wanted them in the video. I hear Dale is a hip-hop fan. Danica is an Indy car driver though, there is a difference.
I’m just wondering if Dale and Danica really raced LOL
That was hot but after that, it did deteriorate into a bunch of videos we’ve seen before. I’m not in love with the song, I think many rappers have gone down on their quality control. But if it comes on, I’m sure I’ll be singing it anyway.
Black Album was the shit to me….that’s one Jigga newer album I dug all the way through….

But I do think if anyone comes up with anything really good, they’ll surpass Jigga….but who will??

@ FR3SHKIX

I didnt say i wanted to hear something deep everytime i listen to rap. Clean the crude out of your eyes or/and clean your computer.

My point in writing all them paragraphs was to say jayz considers himself the best rapper alive, and all i was asking was why?!!!!!!!!!!!!! His lyrics are extremely mediocre, he DON’T have the best flow among all the rappers, hell, there are some new rappers that would kill this nigga in a rap off! All i want to know is why???? Cause he said he’s the best! And frankly, i get sick of hearing him brag about himself cause it is is mind-washing bullcrap. If he say’s something enough, alot of people will begin to believe it, even without merit, hence “best rapper alive!”

It’s important for an artist to stay true to the FANS WHO MADE HIS ASS RICH! And believe me, it wasn’t the crowd he’s catering to now…it was the little boy in the projects that bought jayz’s CD’s when he was selling the shit out his trunk! Now he’s all commercial, those people in the projects can’t relate to this song, or this video! Hell, most urban folk can’t, how many of us have race cars! I’m just saying in my opinion, he’s selling out, he’s not keepin it real! WHILE I APPLAUD HIM FOR COMING UP WITH A DIFFERENT CONCEPT FOR THE VIDEO, HE SHOULD HAVE MADE IT SOMETHING EVERYONE CAN RELATE TO, AND THAT’S HIS CHALLENGE.

A lot of artists use certain groups of people to get where they need to go, and when they get there, turn their back on those people! That’s why some of these artists lost their hood cards (better not be caught no where in the hood, that ass might get popped) people feel betrayed cause they believed in this artist and his message, all of a sudden, he’s unrelateable or as some people say “gone hollywood. And while i’m not saying jayz is in this category RIGHT NOW, he’s fast approaching it in my opinion! I’m with DMX with his crack headed ass, when he said “jayz has turned into a punk!” or something to that effect. Whatever, i agree.

Now you might not agree with me on my opinion of jayz and his music, but i definitely see a change!

67.

Whats wrong with considering yourself to be the Best.
That’s what you are suppose to do…CONSIDER YOURSELF THE BEST AND UNTIL SOMEONE ELSE PROVES YOU WRONG THEN YOU HAVE NO REASON TO THINK OTHERWISE.
Kids in the project can’t realate… NO SHIT.
However as a parent you are suppose to raise your kids to believe they can acheive ANYTHING.
To me its not about relating its about fantasy… This is the life he lives he isn’t poor anymore, he doesn’t have to be sorry for that. All the shit he does in the video is like real life to him. So how can you not be keeping it real if what you do in your video’s is something you really do?

Ypu people are a trip… I am happy that he is doing his thing… MAKE THAT BUTTER JAY… CAUSE IF I WAS IN THE RAP GAME I’D BE TAKING SOME SERIOUS NOTES. cAN YOU BE A MENTOR JIGGA!
