Madonna and Angelina Jolie have done it, and now even Britney Spears is thinking about adopting a black child. What is up with this sudden interest in adopting black children? Most of these celebrities can’t wait to jump a plane for Africa and pick up a child at the nearest village. Why the interest? Are they really compelled with this child’s plight or are they just picking up these kids because they are the latest celebrity fashion accessory? The world may never know..

And get this, singer Wynonna Judd, is thinking about adopting a black child because of what her daughter said:

“I’d like a black sister or brother,”

Wynonna went on to say, “she’s around my singers, and most of them are black - and I say, ‘Be quiet and do your homework’. But I do think I may adopt.” [SOURCE]

AOL’s black voices, recently put up a piece about how black stars aren’t adopting black children, or getting involved in charity work, as much as white stars.

With the exception of Oprah, and a few other black stars, you don’t really here anything about them helping out the children of Africa. And many would argue, why should we help out another country, when our own isn’t doing so hot in the same area? There are millions of kids in America who need loving homes..

Whatever the case, I’m just interested in seeing how this whole thing pans out.

It’s true. Black stars really aren’t stepping up to the plate. In any case, what’s the big deal? If that child that Madonna adopted gets sent back, he’s going to be pretty pissed off when he gets older and finds out that a whole bunch of people who don’t know him decided that it was best for him to return. On hand you can say that black celebs simply don’t get the same publicity as white celebs when they travel to africa to do good deeds. A Keys was just there, delivered medicine, and did you see that on Entertainment Tonight, or Access Holywood? nope.

As far as adoption is concern, i believe that any child that can be helped is a good thing. Although, I think all people , not just celebs should look at kids right here in America first. How long have you been hearing about non-white celebs going all the way to Russia and China to get a baby? Blacks who adopt to our credit will at least look to our own.

I am all for helping the children but something just doesn’t feel right here.It seems like more of a phase that they are going through like these children are the latest cool pet to get if you are in the in crowd. im glad these clebs are bringing attention to some of these african countries because they really need help( yes i know there ar a lot of nice communites in afrcian countires but you know what i mean)!. it seems that they can not win if they adopt these black kids or if they don’t. so i would not even pay attention to the criticism if i were them. we should pay more attention to what we can do on our own to help the less fortunate. i will say that it is a wonderful thing that they are donating money and helping out these nations! it is about time someone focuses on the “motherland”.

I’m all for people bringing attention to the social ills such as poverty, the water crisis and the AIDS/HIV problems in Africa. I’ve been to Ghana and I’ve seen some of the poverty and other problems that some of the people there must deal with. Some of the conditions I witnessed were heart-breaking.

However you made a good point. Extreme poverty exists in America as well. Go to Bankhead projects and other places right here in Atlanta and you will see people living in an environment very similar to developing countries.

If White actors are adopting these children without any pretenses and out of the goodness of their hearts then I’m all for it. A poor homeless child is a poor homeless child and I don’t care if you are helping the American one or the African one. Just help. However if this is a “fad” then the actions of these white actors are despicable.

How Misz Thing is being allowed to sidestep this country’s laws to take custody of the baby. How she requested to see 12 boys so that she could pick one out. Can we say slave auction? I mean, what was the criteria? How the baby’s daddy was told by Malawian government officials that a nice “Christian” woman wanted to adopt his son. And it was good for the country for him to allow the adoption to go through. This shit stinks to high heaven. This is an OUTRAGE! Africa has been in the same state it’s in for the longest. Where was Madonna, Jay-z, Qweneth, Kate Moss, and whoever else that just wants to jump on the AFRICAN trend train, where were they this time last year?Oops I forgot there wasn’t much going on there unfortunately. Just curious: How many of you plan to adopt, either in the U.S. or in Africa?

It’s easy to criticize all these ppl who are adopting but what are YOU doing about all the kids who are stuck in orphanages and foster care? There are so many kids who will never get the pleasure of calling someone “Mom” or “Dad.”

In many cities in the U.S., there are segments on the local news (e.g. “Monday’s Child” or “Wednesday’s Child”) where they feature a child waiting to be adopted. These kids can be 11, 12 or as old as 16 or 17, waiting to be adopted. What do YOU plan to do about that? Keep in mind you don’t have to be a millionaire celebrity to adopt. Many of the ppl I know who have adopted are just regular middle class folks.

To answer my initial question: Yes I plan to adopt a little “Antoine Fisher” within the next 10 years.

That’s why every time I post an item on Ebay, my email gets LOADED with people from Africa need to buy my item and send it to Africa. They will pay through PayPal. Know that Paypal won’t even ship the item until I’ve showed the the item has been shipped. Then 2 weeks later the money is pulled back out of my account, because the money was stolen.

My friend is married to a controlling African. He controlled her through the entire marriage in the US. He stopped her from talking to her family. He didn’t allow her to work. She could only stay at home.

This man took her all the way to Africa, and the minute they arrived to his family home he beat the dog shit out of her. He beat her for days. She ran away to a hotel, and since he was a prominent Doctor in Africa as well living in the US. The Hotel people called him and told him she was there. He dragged from the Hotel buy her hair and the police and all the people watched him do it. Because theres no laws against this in Africa.

That African man was so smart that he took her all the way to Africa to kick her ass. There nothing the US Courts can do about it, because it didn’t happen in the US.

Man, I don’t know much about this craze to adopt African children, by celebrities. However, American Black children are being neglected, with one single search on the website listed below I identified 1065 Afro-American children who are growing up without families! They have multiple siblings, histories of drug abuse, neglect, and/or sexual manipulation. For the lucky few with minimal problems, their families would rather let they sit in orphanges and foster care.. instead of relinquishing their parental rights…perhaps, their hoping that the mom will get a job or get out of rehab. PEOPLE this is SUCH A DISGRACE that it would seem foolishness, not to bring up the plight of unwanted children RIGHT HERE.. no offense.. F*** Africa.. ’cause every single one of those bastards comes over here with an identity complex.. that is they think that their better because their ancestor’s didn’t PICK COTTON..
So, the real issue is reaching out to our own extended families when you see a young cousin or aunt stronging to keep it together.. maybe adoption or takin custody of her children before they end up growing older and unwanted in an orphange, could be one possible solution to a problem with no end in sight.

I don’t think that it is fair to compare poverty in countries like Malawi in Africa with poverty in America. Someone mentioned that there are parts of Atlanta that look like a third world country. Try to imagine if all of Georgia looked like a third world country and that Georgia was at war with Florida and South Carolina. The situations are completely different. Madonna has made a choice. She is not sitting here commenting on the situation she is doing something. She is also donating 3 Million to the country and for that, maybe she deserves special treatment. It’s not right to trivialize this. A child is in the balance and one day he will find learn about this. Lets all hope that Madonna’s intentions are genuine and that the little boy has a happy and successful life.

I have a question, why is it that some people only think about US orphans when they see foreign babies being adopted? It’s funny cuz I don’t see any outrage until a celebrity adopts a non-US kid. Then all the protesters come out.

For all those who oppose foreign adoptions I really really REALLY hope y’all are planning to adopt a bunch of American kids yourselves. If not then STFU and stop hating.

I think Madonna cares about the child she is adopting and not just doing it for PR. Madonna has always given to charities all around the world and you never heard about it. Madonna did not just go to Malawi and buy a child she has been going threw the adoption process for Mouths and this visit was for looking over the orphanage she is building with her own money and to see the child she adopted and take him home. I think it is a good thing when good loving people adopt children and I think they shouldn’t be put down and said they are doing it to look good to the public or to stroke there ego.

A lot of people have posted comments saying they don’t like Africans who come over here because they are arrogant………Shiiit, they have a right to be. They come over here and get engineering degrees and law degrees when black americans (lower class) are still sittin on they ass complainin about shit. Other than at the braid shop, I have never met an African who had less than 2 ADVANCED degrees. I work with special ed (black) children and the majority of them are in the system. Why? Not because of war or famine, but because they momma decided to pick up a crack pipe. I know there are a lot of obstacles to raising your socio-economic status in this country if you are a black american, but you have to take some responsibility somewhere. If you come from a low income area, get decent grades, score an OK SAT score, and write a sob story about growing up in the ghetto……you go to college for free. Our ancestors did what they had to do to survive, I don’t know what the fuck happened between the civil rights movement generation and our current generation, but if it ain’t rap or sports, our less fortunate ain’t gon’ do shit but stand on the corner (and yes i do recognize that there are hard workers in the hood, but workin hard doesn’t mean shit if you aren’t educating your kids about your struggle and what your working hard for)…………but i digress

In regards to these white folks adopting african children, more power to em. Being an orphan in Africa is nothing like being in the system in the US, its not perfect, but at least here they get clean water, food and access to an education.

I am glad to see that the children are getting a home love and support in Africa. I can’t help but remind people there are children 2 blocks up the street that are homeless,hungry and helpless right here in America.I know of many children, being an employee of the state, that have been through horrific times and hardships in foster care,hell some from there own damn parents its sick.I am heart broken coming home everyday.if only i could adopt a few here and a few there. who cares if the kids are being adopted for a promo or for that person to look good or not they are being adopted and being put into a far better situation than they were born in or what most of us were born in. I dont think Angelina Jolie or Madonna would be cruel to the child that they have adopted. It is good that the media and celebrities are shedding light on Africa even if it is in vein. How can you go and ‘clean somebody else’s home when your own is dirty’?. Yes I’m glad that they are providing for these children who are less fortunate, but I’m sure that there are so many children in America who need a loving home and someone to care for them, who also live in an orphanage! First time poster…*smiles*…You should be in London right now where all we are hearing about is this damn adoption..

I do have problems in the way the whole process was conducted..she literally picked him out of a bunch of other kids at the orphanage…to me that just seems disturbing. The fact she was able to bypass the procedural process in place in the country also gets the alarm bells ringing. What I also found difficult to digest is that yes, she did give a considerable amount of money to the orphanage, however it was on the condition that the money be used to promote that religion shes always going on about.

I think the main problems people are having are, the fact she is a white celebrity adopting an African child, but mainly the fact that, you hear nothing of her interest in the affairs of Africa or using her media power to highlight certain issues within the continent. Everytime I about this women she’s either kissing girls, burning the cross or trying to get everybody to wear those red string bracelets.

Being a British African I find it insulting when people suggests Africans or black people in general don’t care about their own. My parents send money back home to Africa monthly so as to support the education and the welfare of the family. The difference is they do because it is what you do, the media would have you thinking it is the West suporting Africa. This point also extends I think to the many celebrities who help out Africans, they do it without the medis fanfare..They don’t need a pat on the back like i feel a lot of white people do..!!

And I love how people keep going on about how is life is going to be fantastic now because she’s rich and can provede….Hmmmm…because celebrity children are never disfunctional,check into rehab by the time their 8 and other types of nonsense…..??
