Nas & Jay-Z have teamed up for “Black Republicans” from the much anticipated album from Nas, “Hip Hop Is Dead.” I think people have it in mind that just the opposite has happened. Looks like our dear friend Hip Hop is making a strong comeback! The beat of the song knocks, it’s really triumphant and both Nas and Jay spit hard on each of their verses. I’m pretty excited to hear the rest of Nas’s album, especially since I thoroughly enjoyed Jay-Z’s. Both albums seem like they’re going to do well. Maybe there will be a tour… headlined by the both of them?

i dig the song, but on a different scale than i was expecting
the content wasnt as potent as the song title evokes

Nas is a better lyricist. he is much more introspective than Jay. For the most part Jay was Money, cash and Hoes… he just rapped well about it for a long time. He wasn’t that conscious rapper with the exception of D’Evils(he was sorry for selling crack to his friends) but damn he made like 500 songs.

I listened to that entire song (DJ screaming in the background and all) like 8 times to hear what was being said. The song title envokes a feeling that the song should be deep. Unfortuately, Jay-Z’s verse leaves you thinking, “what the hell happened to the Black Republican?” So, no he is not a poet. He maybe a wordsmith, but a poet is going too far!
We had to listen and read between every line cause we were searching for the lost meaning of his verse. Disapointly we discovered that the Great Wizard of Oz, is nothing but a simple man behind a sheet, with nothing special to offer us but things we already have–ignorance and superficialness (* I think I mad that last word up though–I’ll be back, running for a thesaurus*).

Jay is too proudly known as “One-Take Hov” and the man that doesn’t have to write to put together something spiritual. (This comment doesn’t pertain to autobiographical music) Song Cry was one of Jay’s best works…because it wasn’t confound to topics covering money, cars, drugs, and travel. It was about emotions. Nas can infuse emotion into a song seemingly effortlessly…truly a gift. With production that can keep up….Nas would be more highly regarded than Jay. I see only Pac’s poetic talent surpassing Nas i.e. keep ya head up, dear mama, brenda’s got baby, and the list goes on.
My own pride disagree’s with Nas working with Jay because of the type of disrespect Jay tried to show him publicly over his “Delilah”. (Sampson and the source of his strength-hair for you slow pokes) But then again, to hold hatred is spiritually crippling…so Nas had to let it go. Wow, what a title. I have to agree completely with #12 and #22. That title should be changed. The mention of a black Republican is touchy, and sends off the vibe that there will be substance in this work of two hip-hop masterminds. Yeah right! Jay definitely has “flow,” and unfortunately that is where it ends. As I said in post on Kingdom Come, he’s flowing, but he’s flowing about nothing! I’m not too familiar with Nas, but at least the man HAD an objective with his rhyme. This sounds good because Nas is talking about something but the title I can do without. If JAY had this track alone it seems that it would be another pointless song with a great title. And yes dumb asses will run out and pick this up. at work could not listen to the track, but to sort of look in another direction i believe they unified to bring back that “NY hiphop”, because people say they are tired of the “snap music” genre. it appears they came together and said let’s make this money, because southern artist have their beef, but they are more so focused on getting paid, where ny artist take stuff personal. i grew up in ny and now live south so i can see how hip hop has changed and i see the difference and i like both and i think every region has their time. and ny needs a comeback so jay z is a business man (sagitarrius) so he had to comeback, and try to bring something to the game in his mind he’s bringing back hiphop and 40 is like the new 30 now so if he makes good music that’s relevant do him i love nas as an artist so hopefully he will get his, he’s a very introspective rapper so in his mind he can still do that deep message and it will get out to the greater masses with jay-z appeal.
