BLACK REPUBLICAN!

Tuesday, November 14, 2006

blackrep.jpg

Nas & Jay-Z have teamed up for “Black Republicans” from the much anticipated album from Nas, “Hip Hop Is Dead.” I think people have it in mind that just the opposite has happened. Looks like our dear friend Hip Hop is making a strong comeback! The beat of the song knocks, it’s really triumphant and both Nas and Jay spit hard on each of their verses. I’m pretty excited to hear the rest of Nas’s album, especially since I thoroughly enjoyed Jay-Z’s. Both albums seem like they’re going to do well. Maybe there will be a tour… headlined by the both of them?

@ #70 although i know that you are not insisting that women don’t know REAL hip hop, I must say that I’m one chick that is a true fan of hip hop and its lyrics

i can appreciate lyrics and metaphoric rhymes and other stuff like that, LOL…and i know i’m not the only girl that does

#62, u women wouldn’t have to dominate this discussion, if you would get off the toilet and participate. I hope you wash your hands before you get back on the computer…

#71, “NAS’ PUTS HIS OUT FRONT WHEREAS JAY ALWAYS MADE YOU READ THE LINE AND IN BETWEEN IT TO GET YOU TO THINK LIKE A POET LIKE HIM.”

I listened to that entire song (DJ screaming in the background and all) like 8 times to hear what was being said. The song title envokes a feeling that the song should be deep. Unfortuately, Jay-Z’s verse leaves you thinking, “what the hell happened to the Black Republican?” So, no he is not a poet. He maybe a wordsmith, but a poet is going too far!

We had to listen and read between every line cause we were searching for the lost meaning of his verse. Disapointly we discovered that the Great Wizard of Oz, is nothing but a simple man behind a sheet, with nothing special to offer us but things we already have–ignorance and superficialness (* I think I mad that last word up though–I’ll be back, running for a thesaurus*).

To come up with a line, a verse, 40 bars that invokes deep thought and breathes real life into a song takes time. Jay is too proudly known as “One-Take Hov” and the man that doesn’t have to write to put together something spiritual. (This comment doesn’t pertain to autobiographical music) Song Cry was one of Jay’s best works…because it wasn’t confound to topics covering money, cars, drugs, and travel. It was about emotions. Nas can infuse emotion into a song seemingly effortlessly…truly a gift. With production that can keep up….Nas would be more highly regarded than Jay. I see only Pac’s poetic talent surpassing Nas i.e. keep ya head up, dear mama, brenda’s got baby, and the list goes on.

My own pride disagree’s with Nas working with Jay because of the type of disrespect Jay tried to show him publicly over his “Delilah”. (Sampson and the source of his strength-hair for you slow pokes) But then again, to hold hatred is spiritually crippling…so Nas had to let it go. (Also, Jay is the bridge to corporate America and simply put…more money) I look forward to Nas doing well sales wise….I’ll definitely buy this one and forgo the easier download

Wow, what a title. I have to agree completely with #12 and #22. That title should be changed. The mention of a black Republican is touchy, and sends off the vibe that there will be substance in this work of two hip-hop masterminds. Yeah right! With that title they could have really talked about some shit. Like #12 said if they were familiar with politics at all, they would know that the line:

“I Feel Like A …..
(Jay-Z)
black republican, money i got coming in
cant turn my back on the hood i got love for them
Cant claim my act has been good, too much thug in him
Ill probably end up back in the hood like fuck it then”

That sounds more like a black Democrat. A Republican would do just the opposite of that. The hood? What is that? If he knew anything about HIS people in the hood as much as he’s screaming here he wouldn’t compare himself to a black Republican; they’re not too favored around these parts. It’s interesting to see that even these people are not as informed as they should be when they have the technology in the world at their finger tips to access such information. Black Republican! Funny men.

Jay definitely has “flow,” and unfortunately that is where it ends. As I said in post on Kingdom Come, he’s flowing, but he’s flowing about nothing! I’m not too familiar with Nas, but at least the man HAD an objective with his rhyme. This sounds good because Nas is talking about something but the title I can do without. If JAY had this track alone it seems that it would be another pointless song with a great title. And yes dumb asses will run out and pick this up. I’m sone of them will be considering themselves black Republicans after this shit. Well. . . . .maybe I’m underestimating them. Can’t be too sure these days.

Dudes is taking music way too serious.
Why do some people have to show that they think that they are so smart?
Its a song that has an interesting title that got people talking.
As far as Jay and Nas are concerned:
Mission Accomplished.

@#83 STEVE

How in happy hell can you decipher what kind of music I listen to from my post. Because I don’t listen to Jay-Z and Nas, I have to be into “club” music? Get the fuck outta here! This is some real underground stuff here. I guess you would be just showing ignorance and age.

To fill you in, I love music in general. I listen to everything from classical to hip-hop. I refuse to limit myself when it comes to music. If not limiting my music puts me in the minority, then so be it. You Jay-z stans think everyone has to agree with you guys. P-FUCKING-LEASE! These days the only hip-hop I listen to is my old Tupac, old OUTKAST, and The Roots. Why? Because shit on the radio is garbage.

at work could not listen to the track, but to sort of look in another direction i believe they unified to bring back that “NY hiphop”, because people say they are tired of the “snap music” genre. it appears they came together and said let’s make this money, because southern artist have their beef, but they are more so focused on getting paid, where ny artist take stuff personal. i grew up in ny and now live south so i can see how hip hop has changed and i see the difference and i like both and i think every region has their time. and ny needs a comeback so jay z is a business man (sagitarrius) so he had to comeback, and try to bring something to the game in his mind he’s bringing back hiphop and 40 is like the new 30 now so if he makes good music that’s relevant do him i love nas as an artist so hopefully he will get his, he’s a very introspective rapper so in his mind he can still do that deep message and it will get out to the greater masses with jay-z appeal.

I must admit…I just dont like Jay-Z…I can appreciate the good music that he puts out occassionally, but I, too, realize on several occassions how his lyrics unbdermine the song title.

Carmen’s book makes Nas look like a punk, from the chapters I’ve read.

This partnership wont last for long, either. It was doomed from day one. Russell Simmons signed his own Suicide note when he gave Jigga a seat on the executive board at Def Jam, let alone as President.

If u see a crazy bitch screaming Death to Hip Hop…Hip Hop is Dead..and Jay-Z is the grim reaper…it will prob. NOT be me. LOL—but I will be somewhere in the crowd nodding my head.

Come on STANS Im ready! lol

What a downer. For this to be their highly anticipated record with both of them on it? thumbs down. Jays flow is weak, if not horrible and Nas has done sooo much better collabos than this. Az, jada, wu, mobb so many.

But what do you expect with a song title like “Black republicans”, with Jay-Z on it? The brotha can not rap about serious topics. I think hes shown that hes incapable of doing so(someone mentioned renegade). This is the typical mainstream hip hop song that uses a controversial title as a mere cliché. The song lacks focus, or any real value, beside this being the first song they actually spit on together (because there is another one).

Ok, the song is called Black Republican and neither one of them speak on any serious political issues so Nas did no better than Jay-Z.And to whoever said on Kingdom come Jay-Z “flows about nothing” must not have listened to the entire album he has song about the perils of Fame “Hollywood”, a thank you letter to his mother “I Made It” a song about the Katrina tragedy ” Minority Report” a song dedicated to his unborn child ” Beach Chair” and “Lost One” which is another intropsective record,so what are you talking about. And when he says “black republican, money i got coming in can’t turn my back on the hood i got love for them” He means ALTHOUGH he’s a black republican he’s not turning his back on the hood. Damn was that really that hard to pick up on I think I’m the only one that got it. Lastly poetry can be about ANYTHING just because he doesn’t always rap about what YOU think he should doesn’t mean he’s not a poet.
