CARMELO, LALA, AND THE CAST OF ‘THE WIRE’
Tuesday, November 28, 2006
Jordan brand hosted a dinner with Carmelo Anthony, a very pregnant LaLa Vasquez and the cast of The Wire Sunday at the Samba Room in Denver, Colorado.

Some of the cast of the Wire with Carmelo Anthony’s Mom

Andre “Bubbles” Royo & Lala

Speaking of The Wire, for those who watch. Doesn’t De’Londa (Namond’s mother) irk your last nerve? I swear they should kill her off in a drive by or something. That lady is playing her part.
Make sure you look out for The Wire. Sundays @ 10pm on HBO.

Lala looks so good pregnant. She wears it well. Maybe she should stay pregnant all the time.
Loves the Wire. The ALL play their part. I wonder why they haven’t won any major awards yet (or have they)?

YES!!!!!!! She irks my nerve:
“You scared to go to Baby Bookin’? Get your muthafuckin ass n da house, nay!”
BUT SHE MAKES THE SHOW COMICAL….even tho’ some moms really think like that!
My mom, grandma, and cousins thought I was crazy when I told them that that “light-skinned dude” is a girl! LMAO
I like this season, but I wish it ran longer.
Shiit, Despearate Housewives runs from late-August thru mid-December for ONE SEASON.
GIVE ME THE WIRE OR GIVE ME DEATH!!!!!!

Big ups to Lala and Carmelo..on the Wire..yes she plays the hell out of that role..and even though i cannot stand her..she does a very real interpretation of some street mom’s and how they be..The wire is known for keeping it real so we gotta have the good with the bad..

I love The Wire. I just hate when people ask me is Baltimore really like that. Mostly because I cant say, ‘naw they just embellish for the sake of the show.’ The characters are so real. Heck my little brother is probably a combination of all 4 of the little boys running around the streets this season. But yeah it is my hometown, gotta love it and hang my head (in semi-shame) all at the same time.

I must agree with some of the comments. Not a big LaLa fan, but she looks adorable. And yes, the Wire is even more addicting than the series of Soul Food that ran on HBO. Marlo reminds me of 50 cent. He has a more NY swagger than a Bmore swagger. If you don’t watch it, you need to jump on the bandwagon!

That’s true, but I didn’t realize b-morians talked like that. Everytime I was in b-more I never noticed anyone with those heavy accents. Like on the words “two”, “you” or “who”. Omar, Snoop and Prop Joe to name a few, all pronounce them like “tue”, “yew” and “hugh”/”hue”.
That’s the best I can explain it. =\

Lol @ crackheads making their bed in the morning.
But yo, Carcetti is someone you should like. He’s cleaning up the city and finally doing the right thing. He’s getting rid of all the corruption that Royce let happen. I like what he’s doing. See how he ordered the police to open those vacants and find the bodies. Dude is about his business, with no fooling around.
Those who just got hooked on this season should definitely check out season 1 and 3. Don’t bother wasting time on season 2. They went a whole different direction on that season. If you don’t know the history, I don’t see how you can fully understand this season.

Tuesday, November 28, 2006 /
When it’s something I care about, I’ll type a novel. But The Wire is a very good show. Not just because of the action, gun fights and murders. It gives uninformed people a front row seat of what it’s like to grow up in that environment as a kid and what it’s like behind those city hall doors.
1. Like the “stop snitching” code and what can happen if you are labeled a snitch.
2. The school system and how everything is about money and stats, instead of really being about teaching the children.
3. Politicians and the incompetent police department worrying about quotas instead of doing real police work.
4. Broken homes, parents who push their children into a life of crime and the never ending cycle that plagues these black neighborhoods.
All of those things are happening in every city, as we speak/type.
43.
mizzlizz
Tuesday, November 28, 2006 /
Everything you speak of are inner-city problems. I wish this show aired on the network channels so Americans could get a sense of what inner-city kids experience.
I’m going to start watching this show. Thanks for the description Caff.

MizzLizz, you are missing an excellent show. Me too unfortunately ;=(. But the first season is on DVD so you can rent it.
Caff is right. Season 1 & 3 are the best. This show is gritty, raw and real. They hold nothing back but it’s not over the top like some other police/crime dramas. There are no real “heros” on The Wire. Everybody’s flawed or got dirt.
I got my coworker hooked onto that joint and she’s like 55! I had her feening for Idris Elba. I hate that they killed him off. He was one of TVs best villains.

no you gotta watch season 2 also cuz its important to see how Barksdales crew was when dude got locked up the first time for instance, De Angelo gets killed. Plus that whole cargo wire tap was alright. Also you get a look at how the Barksdale crew was with Stinger running it. I think whoever hasn’t watched the wire should watch it all the seasons

I’m a wire-holic, got the chance to meet Tristan Wilds who plays Michael, he’s a li’l cutie and very sweet. Much nicer than the character he plays!

De’Londa gets on my last nerve….I just want to reach through the tv screen and slap her a few good times. But then I realize she’s just an actress and was told to say those things so I can’t really get mad at her. One of the reasons why I love the Wire is because of the emotions it invokes. I’m outraged and annoyed that a mother would rather have her son sent to “baby booking” then spend a night at his teacher’s house. She wants him on the corner doing what his daddy did so that she can continue to live the life she’s accustomed to. You can tell that Ney isn’t cut out for selling drugs or being the bad kid in school. Deep down he’s a punk and just wants to be kid playing video games. It’s sad that Ney and some of the other characters, Michael especially, have to grow up sooo fast.

I feel you e-ka…
Even though season 2 focuses on the corruption within the union down at the docks, it still has 35% of the Barksdale story tied into it. I’d suggest watching it, but fast forward through the parts that invovle the docks, the greek, or Sobotka and them.

I LOVE the wire!!! I always watch it on Demand as soon as the new show is posted!!! What is so impressive about this show is its realness! It doesn’t seem like the characters are acting…it feels like you get a front seat row to some real life drama shit! Those kids are acting their asses off…they are saying and acting just like inner city kids act….this show is just REAL! Does anyone know if there will be another season? I hope so, because it seems like they are setting the ground work for another season with the new mayor and all…

Namond is a sucker…he is being pushed out their by his mother…she needs to go get a job!
LaLa is a friend of mine and for those saying mean things about her you need to know that LaLa is one of the sweetiest people to know…I met her when she first came to D.C. and nobody knew her…she was sweet then and still is now….leave my girl alone.

I agree with you about Nay’s mom. She is a stone cold bitch addicted to the hustler’s lifestyle. If you watch the new episode on Demand you will see exactly what the other person said when they said that he just wants to be a kid. He even said it himself. For Christ’s Sake he got robbed and chumped off by a 10 year old!!!! Michael will probably be Marlow’s right-hand for the next season. They are training him to handle his business. Not that the hustler’s life is great, but if that’s your choice, that’s your choice, don’t push your kids into it. Damn!!!
