I’m really excited to see Dreamgirls. The cast is talented and I’m sure this movie is going to be awesome. @ 1 - ugh, I’m so tired of reading these comments where someone has to go and talk crap about a celebrity when they’re doing a good thing. Ms. Knowles is talented - that is undeniable - and so is everyone else in the cast. What I’m getting at is this - criticize her and anyone else when they do bad. But for now, praise and celebrate her and the other African Americans in this film that have done a great job. And stop talking about people’s hair and wigs - its a cultural norm now for women to wear extensions get over it. or maybe someone has an insecurity?

I saw the movie already at its press sneak peak in New York. I don’t know if the rumors are true about Beyonce throwing shade to Jennifer Hudson, because Beyonce is threatened, but if she is threatened she need to be because Jennifer Hudson’s performance SONS everyone else’s with the exception of Eddie Murphy who’s equal.

And there are about two or three others who are better in the film than Beyonce. If Beyonce thought this was going to be all about her, she’s in for a rude awakening.

I have to disagree with Malcom. I think after this preformance Jennifer will be a contender for Beyonce in the acting & music world. Peoplel are praising her acting and the girl can sing her ass off.

We all know how you start off regular in Hollywood then evolve to something else. Next year Jennifer could be 120 pounds! Beyonce is the perfect exsample of that. She went from about 140 to 118. &, well the way the MOVIE DREAM GIRLS has been ADVERTISED & PROMOTED, back from when it was FIRST being BROUGHT TO THE PUBLIC…”INITIALLY” we were led to BELIEVE that BEYONCE is the LEAD ROLE in the movie. & had I not had any prior KNOWLEDGE to the BROADWAY version of DREAM GIRLS I would have believed she had the leading ROLE as well.

I dont know what BEYONCE is saying to the PRESS & MEDIA “CURRENTLY”. But I know when word was just getting out about this movie she was hinting at the PUBLIC that this may just be her OSCAR WINNING ROLE. & she was VERY EXCITED about it. It seems that AFTER the film/trailor- was PREVIEWED (be the CELEBS)and all the RAVE REVIEWS started leaking about J.HUDSONS performance in the movie, BEYONCE begins to accept that this may not be her OSCAR winning ROLE after all.

I dont know what OPRAH show people have seen but the one I saw on TV BEYONCE did not appear to be WARM SPIRITED, & infact appeared to be a little JEALOUS of the attention J. HUDSON was getting from the audience & OPRAH. If BEYONCE wasn’t “jealous–she would not have felt compelled to make mention of her having a acting coach for the movie & telling us she felt that she has done her BEST ACTING WORK in this movie as well. Beyonce made that statement almost in tears. (dont believe me? watch the OPRAH show again & observe her)

I think people are really gonna be surprised with JHud and that other girl…by the way, why don’t I ever see her at any of these press conferences? She must have a small part, but she is the other member in the group. I think JHud might actually outshine B in this movie, especially if this her very first movie and basically still being one of us (not famous) cuz she only did American Idol. But they’re gonna use B cuz they know how much we all love to talk about her! We’ll see, but all the other movies I’ve seen with Beyonce were never that good of acting to me. I think it’s her speaking voice, it can sound a bit deep and monotone sometimes.

Actually Dream girls is $25 dollars for the premier tickekts. It starts December 15th. I have tickets to take my little sister at the Zigfield Theater in NY. When it opens on the 25th it will be regular price.

For $25 you get reserved seating and a chance to buy the CD before it comes out. They will have tee shirts and other items you can buy about the movie. Also some “keepsakes” they give you for free.

Is it worth $25 to me? No but my sister really wants to go. So it’s one of her xmas presents.

Too expensive regardless. They are 20.00 per seat where I live so, maybe you get a 5 dolloar discount in “THE HOOD”…reserved seats or not– it’s not like it is a LIVE BROADWAY PLAY.

I think it would make as much PROFIT if not MORE had they left the price at the original $10.00 per head. Just because you charge more does not necessarily mean you make more. FYI…RIAA does not provide accurate numbers. For true sales figures, you need to know what B’Day sold via Soundscan, which tracks actual sales.

I’ve seen the movie already. It’s great because of the combined black talent and the fact that it told a great story….

Beyonce is good, but it’s definitely Jennifer Hudson’s coming out party. She’s fantastic.

But let’s face it, Beyonce is the draw along with Eddie and Jamie….no one would give a damn about Jennifer Hudson. Maybe AFTER seeing the movie, but she couldn’t have drawn folks to it beforehand, thus the emphasis on an established star.

I am so happy for Jennifer Hudson. She was eliminated much too soon from Idol (I ain’t saying anything new). It seems like Idol did her a big favor. She is starring with Eddie, Jamie. Wow, that’s big. Some stars haven’t even had that opportunity.

Exactly. Shipped means sent to the store. I could send a CD to the dam store and say I was Platinum. Because they sent that many does not mean she sold that many. And a number on the Billboard chart does not certify any body. Yes they are waiting for the end of the year. To see how many were sold, how many were returned, and how many are STILL IN THE DAM STORE! LMAO

Since RIAA is the ONLY one that can certify a CD (and she is not) that is the one we need to be looking at.

You’re right the RIAA is the only entity that certifies albums, but they certify albums based on shipments, which really isn’t an accurate representation. Janet Jackson was just certified platinum last week, but she’s only actually sold a little over 500,000 copies. Soundscan records how many records are actually sold (not including catalog or club sales), so it is pretty accurate as far as how many people actually bought the album. It doesn’t just show how many have been shipped to stores. Although the RIAA is the only entity that certifies albums, it doesn’t update its website regularly. If you go now and search for FutureSex/LoveSounds by Justin Timberlake, you won’t find it in his list of certifications, but we all know he’s sold over a million copies. So has Beyonce. And again, I’m not a “stan” per se, but I feel like there is a lot of unwarranted negative energy on this post.

“Two popular urban acts occupy the top two spots on The Billboard 200 this week, with the Game’s “Doctor’s Advocate” coming in at No. 1. The Geffen effort moved 358,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan, a significant drop off from the 587,000-unit first week of his 2005 debut, “The Documentary.” However, the new album’s total was more than enough to debut at No. 1 on Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums.

Akon’s SRC/Up Front/Konvict set “Konvicted” sold 284,000 to bow at No. 2 on The Billboard 200 and Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums. The artist’s 2004 debut, “Trouble,” had a much more modest opening with 24,000. “Konvicted” has benefited from two huge singles, “I Wanna Love You” (featuring Snoop Dogg) and “Smack That” (featuring Eminem), both of which have peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 thus far.

The Sony BMG Strategic Marketing Group/EMI/Universal/Zomba hits compilation “NOW 23″ falls to No. 3 after its No. 1 start last week, selling 194,000, a slide of 42%. Josh Groban’s “Awake” (143/Reprise) follows suit, descending 2-4 with 150,000 and -44% sales hit.

The soundtrack to Disney’s “Hannah Montana” keeps the No. 5 spot warm for a second week with 114,000, a 13% dip. Keith Urban’s Capitol Nashville release “Love, Pain & the Whole Crazy Thing” drops 3-6 with 103,000 (-62%) while Sugarland’s “Enjoy the Ride” (Mercury) slips 4-7 with 81,000 (-61%).

Rock duo Tenacious D cruises to a No. 8 debut with the Epic soundtrack to its film “The Pick of Destiny.” The album sold 81,000 copies, nearly double the 42,000 the group’s self-titled debut moved in its first week in 2001. That album has since shifted 987,000 copies.

Beyonce’s Columbia set “B’Day” re-enters the top tier, climbing 16-9 with 68,000, a 17% sales increase.

“When Your Heart Stops Beating” by (+44), which comprises two former Blink 182 members, enters at No. 10. The Interscope release moved 66,000 units and also enters at No. 2 on the Top Rock Albums chart, behind “The Pick of Destiny.”

Rapper Fat Joe debuts at No. 14 with “Me, Myself & I,” his first album with EMI’s Imperial Records. The set sold 60,000 units, earning Joe a No. 3 on debut Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums and a No. 2 start on Top Rap Albums.

Damien Rice’s “9″ (Vector/Warner Bros.) cracks the big chart at No. 22 with 45,000, his best charting and sales week. The Irish singer/songwriter’s 2003 album, “O,” only managed a No. 114 peak. Other big debuts this week include Kenny G’s “I’m In the Mood for Love” (No. 37; 32,000) and Staind’s “Singles 1996-2006″ (No. 41; 27,000).

Overall CD sales are up 4.5% from last week’s count and down 4.7% compared to the same week a year ago at 12.49 million units. Sales for 2006 are down 5% compared to 2005 at 468.7 million units.”

To the UNTRAINED EAR, Beyonce sounds great! But to the trained ear…….

This is MY opinion on Beyonce’s “WONDERFULL” singing voice (cuz Lord KNOWS that girl sounds GOOFY as HELL when she speaks lol). She CAN sing, but she can’t SANG if you know what I mean and this is how she sounds to me…

Her VIBRATO is extreemly IRRITATING to me. She sounds like she is FORCING it all of the time, like it is not NATURAL but TRAINED without very much natural talent comming from her!!! You don’t always have VIBRATO in your songs to sound GOOD!! If you listen closely to most of the GREATS IMO Celine, Mariah, their voices have more POWER than VIBRATO and they sound GREAT, not FORCED!!!

Her voice sounds like lots of TIME and MONEY instead of NATURAL TALENT. I couldn’t put my finger on it for a long time but I’ve got now!!! By George I’ve got it LOL!!!!

But to the UNTRAINED EAR, Beyonce sounds GREAT…BETTER THAN GREAT to some!! BUT, I TRUELY BELIEVE that most people who listen to music are TONE DEAF (no joke). She is EXCEPTABLE for lack of a better word, not EXCEPTIONAL like Whitney, Mariah, Gladys, STEVIE and a few others. Hell, I don’t even think Christina is a good as Tamia when it comes down to it!!!

To me,she sounds like a producer it telling her “Okay,stop, Sing it like THIS Beyonce” And she is VERY good at doing what people tell her to do. That can be very GOOD or very BAD if you know what I mean.

Jennifer Hudson IMHO has that NATURAL from THE CHURCH type vibrato and talent that R&B music is based on!! She didn’t have anyone that could quit their 6 figure a year job to manage her and spend $5000 on picture packages, build a stage to practice on and all of the things Mathiew Knowles was able to do for his daughter. MOST of us that are trying to make it don’t have that kind of father if ANY father or anyone else in our families that are fortunate enough to be able to push us like that?! It’s too bad though!

But I DO have to say GOD BLESS Mathiew Knowles for stepping up and doing for his daugher what so many of us black folks (and other races too)need but are missing.

I did read that Cheral Lee Ralph in not impressed with Beyonce. She doesn’t think she can do the role justice. She also said that the orininator of the play is disappointed in the choice of Beyonce becasue they didn’t want a light skin black for the part. (I don’t agree with that)

Dianna Ross is also said she doesn’t want Beyonce playing a chater that could be or not be her.

I usually don’t comment, but there are just a few things that I would like to point out, and I think I can cuz I’m totally impartial:

Beyonce is a stunning young woman with a good singing voice, but all this talk about light and darkskinned is setting us back to slave days. Accept it: some of our ancestors got raped or wanted a baby with “good hair” and light skin, so we all look different. I personally go by the smoothness of skin, and Beyonce’s skin looks flawless. I also like the fact that she keeps her love life personal. It is none of our business.

We will never know how she really is cuz that’s how her parents want. All this speculation is just generating more sales for her. By the way, NOT a stan, didn’t buy the CD, wont buy it.

That said, the girl talks like she should be picking cotton. Mama Tina needs to get her a diction coach STAT! And maybe she should have finished high school.

Jennifer Hudson is cute and talented, and I’m sure she will be a star after this.

Listen, everyone seems to always want to jump on the Beyonce’s bandwagon like she is just this “Miss Do No Wrong” princess. Even if she did say this movie is not about her character, there hasinformation posted on other sites that she and her parents snubbed Jennifer Hudson on Oprah. And according to that information, it all has to do with this new found recognition and celebration of the talents of Miss Hudson. So it’s not about people making things up in that regard. If we simply take just a short trip down memory lane to when Letoya Luckett and Latavia Roberson left Destiny’s Child, oh I forgot, were kicked out of the group because they no longer wanted Daddy Knowles to control their interests in group, the info on how Miss Hudson was treated by them is not far fetched. See it was politically correct when the remaining members of DC (Michelle, Kelly & Beyonce) told the world that they mutually decided to break up. Anyone who followed the group from when the first came out, could clearly see that Beyonce was promoted above the other girls. And I guess that’s the benefits of having Mommy & Daddy Knowles running things behind the scene. It was not about fairness, if so, Letoya & Latavia would never have left. Farrah Franklin, who came in as a replacement with Michelle Williams left very quickly as well. More than likely, she saw what Letoya & Latavia saw and was probably let go the way they were. Shortly after we didn’t her anymore, Beyonce said in a group interview on MTV that Farrah wasn’t feeling well and could not be with group on this particular day. A clear lie that was told. Truth be told, she was already out of the group. Then it wasn’t even a week later before Bey announced in another group appearance on MTV, that it was a business decision by the “group” so-called, that Farrah would no longer be a part of the group and they would move forward as a three member group. Michelle Williams was savior to this group. I read comment after comment of people criticizing her on this site no what it is about her, but had it not been for her, DC could have ended a long ago after other girls left. So you see with all of the “goings on” in the Destiny’s Child history book, I still contend that the group ended because Bey’s star shines brighter than Kelly’s and Michelle’s. She got where she needed to get via the shoulders of the other girls (old and new) in the group, she didn’t need them anymore. I mean look at their solo careers. Kelly’s album only went GOLD (mainly due to her duo with Nelly at the time). Her album was poorly promoted by Daddy Knowles and staff. Similarly Michelle’s two gospel albums were all but noticed due to that same lack of promotion by Daddy Knowles & staff. And just earlier this year, it was reported that Kelly was working on her album to be out this year at some point, but miraculously got pushed back for release some time in 2007. Wow, we wonder why? The Knowles clan didn’t want any competition to Bey’s album that’s why. Therefore, it’s not about creating this Jennifer vs. Beyonce thing, it only about stating the obvious. In one or two of the promotion photos for the movie, there’s a shot of Bey and Jennifer on either side of Jamie Foxx…..all I need to say about that is this: if looks could kill, then Jennifer would be lying on the floor in a puddle of blood from the stare she was getting from Bey Knowles. I personally feel that both ladies are very talented, so there’s room for all. Only difference is, Jennifer seems geniunely graceful. She doesn’t come off as fake. This is what people are seeing in her and it comes out in her performance. She doesn’t have to be a diva about hers. I just saw the trailer for Will Smith’s new movie, it does look really good! Atleast it is not fictional like this movie all these people are arguing over!

I hate to say it, but i’m more interested in seeing Will’s new movie this x-mas. Dreamgirls just seems like Hollywood is trying “whiten” it up. It seems like a big waste to me if all young people go by this movie instead of the ORIGINAL play, it would really be sad.

As far as all the beyonce issues, She is BAIT for all the people who only go see movies because their favorite singer/rapper is in it. I tyr to give every artist to show their true talent in acting, but she has had plenty of tries and I am not impressed with her acting.

But what I keep hearing people say that I need to address is the fact that Beyonce brings people to the theaters. WTF? Even her stans know she can’t act worth shit, so that is just the studios hoping and wishing not making decisions based on facts or previous history. Did any of her previous movies break any records? I don’t remember any fanfare with the release of Fighting Temptations or Pink Panther. In fact, both of the movies got really bad reviews. So I don’t think that Paramount or whoever the studio is believes she’s that important. Movies are funny, there aren’t really many black stars that are guaranteed box office bonanzas with their name alone like a pre-Katie Tom Cruise or a Brad Pitt. Beyonce just asthetically appeals to white people because her pigment is lighter, so they figure they will throw her up there, so at least they can count a few white people buying a ticket, not blowing out the box office, not actually believing she is going to sell a record number of tickets. If anything the draws to the movie are Eddie Murphy and Academy Award Winner Jamie Foxx. Not that heffa.

Jennifer Holliday Says She Created Role In Dreamgirls And Doesnt Want To Be Forgotten

Jennifer Holliday, the original Dreamgirl, who created the breakout role of Effie White twenty years ago on Broadway, says she’s very disappointed at her lack of involvement in the soon-to-be-released film version of Dreamgirls.

“I’m not going to lie - I did have hopes that I would reprise the role for the screen. What I wasn’t prepared for was not to even be asked to do a cameo of some sort,” Holliday told INSIDE EDITION’s Deborah Norville.

Holliday says the filmmakers use her voice for the hit song, “And I’m Telling You I’m Not Going,” to market the movie.

“For six months they used my voice on the trailer,” Holliday told INSIDE EDITION, explaining she doesn’t want people to think she’s angry, but admits the resurgence of interest in the Dreamgirls story is extremely bittersweet for her.

“What the public doesn’t understand is that I actually created my role. I wasn’t a girl-for-hire where someone said, ‘Here’s the script and here’s the songs - your job starts tomorrow. I actually created that role,” Holliday says.

She also said, “Everything from the song “And I Am Telling You” to the end of the second act, I created. Effie was not in the second act at all. I fought for her to be there. I fought for her to come back strong. I fought for her to have more songs.”

Holliday was 21-years-old and an unknown talent when Dreamgirls opened on Broadway and was an immediate hit. She went on to win a Tony Award for Best Actress (Musical) for Dreamgirls, and two Grammy Awards. Shortly thereafter, her record company dropped her, she says, because she didn’t have the right look.

She told INSIDE EDITION, “I had ballooned up to 340 pounds. I had been dropped from my record company, not because of flagging sales, but because of my weight. The record company said, ‘You have a great voice, but it’s about image.’”

At one point, Holliday says, she was so despondent over her lack of a recording career coupled with her weight gain, that she attempted suicide.

“I took an overdose of sleeping pills and, just to show you how bad my career was, I tried to take my life, and nobody even wrote about it. It was like, ‘Okay, I didn’t even get in the paper.’ They didn’t even know who I was,” she says.

Holliday says she’s coming forward now because she feels more optimistic and in control for the first time in years.

“I have suffered with clinical depression so, to some people, I’m a bit of a recluse but I do still sing. It’s just that I’m more comfortable with working and singing than I am just out with people,” she told INSIDE EDITION.

She continues, “I was only a voice for so many years, not a person. But I do feel, for the first time, that I am a person and that I am more than a voice and somehow I do want to move forward. I’ve chosen life, although it’s still quite difficult for me day-to-day, but I do want to live.”

“I want people to know that there is hope. I want people to choose life because I lost a beautiful friend. Phyllis Hyman, who was a beautiful jazz singer, took her life in 1995. Then, in 2000, Susannah McCorkle, a great jazz singer, took her life and I also tried to take mine when I was 30 years old.”

Holliday says she thinks its ironic, that the performer who has the role of Effie in the film version, Jennifer Hudson, has the same first name and the same initials as Holliday. But, she says, someone recently told her that her performance on the 1982 Tony Awards, is on a popular video website and she was thrilled.

“I’m glad about YouTube showing my Tony performance because that way the public can see that I did it first and that this is being copied.”

I happened to catch this interview last night on television. That woman is b-i-t-t-e-r. I understand that Jennifer Holliday is a large part of the Dreamgirls history — how could she not be? But for her to think that she would even be considered for the role of a young Effie White is hysterical. Yes a cameo would have been nice…not sure why she wasn’t given at least that much. But…this isn’t her film. Though Loretta Divine is going to appear in the film. Interestingly enough she is the only original Dreamgirl to not run her mouth about the film — Sheryl Lee Ralph…I’m lookin’ at you.

Holliday did say that she was invited (by the creators of the film) to attend the Hollywood premiere and that she gladly accepted. Hopefully she is capable of celebrating the Dreamgrils legacy — and her part in that — without doing the whole “I did it first” stuff.

Jennifer has a much richer and stronger voice than B. She is more soulful and her voice seems to compliment how she looks. B is more verbrata like when Destiny’s Child sang “no no no…” it was like a chimp monk was singing, but it was cute also her voice sounds like a few hundred other ladies out there. For example Kelly Rowland sounds like her…a lot. If you compare the two you most always love Jennifer! It’s like apples and oranges. They are totally different.

When Beyonce gives interviews she is defensive and very sensative about what is asked. I really do not like listening to her speak, to be frank. She seems too cautious and a little fake. She too animated for me. I can’t watch it and not think faaaaaaaaaakkke.

You know - on one level I do see the point that you are making. However - as a woman who works in investment banking I know all to well what a lot of women do to other women in order to have a heady degree of success. It doesnt matter what race or socio-economic level one comes from - a lot of women are denied Beyonce’s level of success precisely because of other women. Beyonce may be beautiful and talented, and yes she definitely worked hard, etc.; but what put her at the top was her parents’ ruthlessness in dealing with the other DC girls over the years. The bottom line is that a lot of successful people even in show business come by their success by playing a hard and sometimes nasty game and Ms Knowles is no exception.

With regards to Dreamgirls - it was a fantastic play and I do look forward to the film and especially Jennifer Hudson taking on Jennifer Holliday’s classic, show-stopping song.

I have already seend the movie and even though I am a huge Beyonce fan and she did a great job in this movie, J Hudson is the real star. This is really going to be a ground breaking experience for her. Her past on broadway has really given her some training and she brings it really hard. And her rendition on I am telling You Is wonderful. Hands down Jenifer Hudson is the star.

It’s a wonderful thing that the movie is getting great press. I’ve been in several Dreamgirls cast. I play the role of James Thunder Earley. It’s a great role such as Effie. Generally unless the actor or singer is horrible whomever is casted will shine. That’s how the show was created. Ofcourse I get down anyway. Eddie is funny. The character of James Thunder I believe he will be great it. Beyonce should’nt worry she’a already a star. If she is worried well that’s her fault. She should have read script. Maybe she would have made another choice. Performers must understand that there are no small parts only small players.It should’nt matter whether Jennifer Hudson stands out. Long as Beyonce knows in her heart that she herself got down and she did her homework.

I seen Dreamgirls tonight, and loved loved it, it was the first time ever that after watching a movie, that movie recieved a round of applause. Jennifer was great great, and i could relate to her…great job jennifer

Hudson is the center of attraction in this movie , and I’m proud that even after the loss of American Idol, she made a mark/name for herself.
