Ed Bradley, the award-winning “60 Minutes” correspondent who grew up in the tough streets of Philadelphia, was wounded while covering the Vietnam War and later became CBS’s first black White House correspondent, died Thursday. He was 65.
Bradley died of leukemia at Mount Sinai, CBS News announced.
Bradley joined “60 Minutes” in 1981, 10 years after he started with the network as a stringer in Paris.
Bradley grew up in a tough section of Philadelphia, where he once recalled that his parents worked 20-hour days at two jobs apiece. “I was told, `You can be anything you want, kid,’” he once told an interviewer. “When you hear that often enough, you believe it.” [READ MORE]
Wow! I didn’t even know he was sick. I loved his pieces on 60 Minutes. Especially that time he interviewed Muhammad Ali, and Ali played a trick on him. lol!

R.I.P.!!!
Was he gay? not that it matters, but I had heard that. I dont’ think he was married ever nor had any children and when he started wearing that earring several years ago he became a little suspect:-) Regardless, he was an excellent journalist and probably opened a lot of doors for other blacks in the business. Rest in Peace Ed Bradley.
Wow! If nothing else his family can find solace in the fact that he did indeed impact the lives of many
Rest In Peace.
RIP! He seemed like a really cool guy and someone to be proud of. I knew he was sick but I did not know what was condition. He had lost a tremendous amount of weight. My prayers go out to his family. He will be missed.

That’s sad
I had the oppotunity to meet him in 1996-7 when I won a scholarship from the NABJ. He was there at the gala. He has been a long standing member and I was so happy to be rubbing elbows with him. I just can’t believe it.
May he rest in peace.
I did not know he was sick. At least his family can be proud of all he’s accomplished.
I am sorry to hear about his passing. I saw him in a restuarant in NYC last year. He seemed like a nice guy. He was a good journalist. My prayers are with his family.
RIP Ed Bradley.

Damn, dude looked very healthy for his age. This is so unexpected. I just saw his interview relating to the Duke case. Sad day indeed. What a great journalist. I know I’ll miss him.
RIP.
Rest in Peace, sir! Damn, another prestigious brother taken away.
We’ve lost another icon. We need to think about all o the people who died for us to have the freedoms that we have. It seems like my generation (31) has gotten very comfortable and lazy. It’s sad we don’t have more Barak Obama’s or John Johnson. We’ve focused more on hip-hop and pushed civil rights to the side. When our gradchildren study black history will they have to go straight to Martin and Malcolm or will we have any from oior generation. We fight each other more than we fight our oppresors. Kool Moe Dee said it best in Self-Destruction. “I never ever ran from the Ku Klux Klan and I shouldn’t have to run from a black man”. “Our” forefather’s Martin, Medgar, Malcolm, gave their lives for us to have the lives we have today and I think they would be disgusted by what they see. Before we would idolize people like Dr. King and struggle just to get the education that they died for us to have. Now our kids are idolizing rappers and are seeling drugs and killing each other just to get the Bling Bling. We need to wake-up as a generation. They did all of the labor and hard work and we’re reaping the beneits.
This is sad I just watched him on an old episode of the chris rock show the other week, my parents are going to be shocked when they hear this. R.I.P.
Aaawww man! I’m sorry to here that RIP.
Ed Bradley was the man…RIP
God Bless him and his family.
R.I.P…
He was truly an icon of past and present media. I loved watching his interviews on 60 minutes. A reporter with such finesse, and he even had an earring…:) He will be missed…:(
See you in the next life, Mr. Bradley, thank you for your stories.

I think after all these years as a veteran journalist, CBS News posted Bradley’s death in bad taste. Instead of posting “Ed Bradley Dead at 65″ they could have said “Ed Bradley 1941-2006. Tacky, CBS “smh” Then again, I heard the work environment at CBS is so hostile that if someone were on fire no one would even spit on the person to put it out…
A Smoothe and Intelligent Brother … Man Death Sucks! … RIP Mr. Bradley.

I loved Ed Bradley, I felt like he was part of my family…Lovely example of a strong black man. He will be missed very much.
My GOD! I grew up watching this man. It’s like losing someone you’ve known (of) all your life. I feel like crying. R.I.P.
@Bill…”Earth has no hurt that Heaven can’t heal.”
I LOVE that. I’ll remember that.Thanks Bill.
RIP ED!
That’s such a nice photo of him too!!
@Bill
That’s real. I love that quote it’s definetly a keeper.
See you at the crossroads Mr. Bradley. RIP
This is truly sad. He was like pioneer…he broke like racial barriers and all at CBS. That’s sad. Plus….He was rockin that earring to the to it’s full potential.
Leah to answer your question Mr. Bradley was not gay. He was married twice. Once to Priscilla Coolidge and he is survived by his second wife Patricia Blanchett. ANd my sources are derived from imdb.com, wikipedia.com, and cbs.com.

He was the only reason I would turn into watch 60 minutes. He had a certain style and classy way of reporting and he always carried himself like a gentleman.
RIP
Lord have mercy! Ed was a cool dude!
SEXY, CLASSY, PROFESSIONAL, LEGEND
#9 and #11
I was thinkin, but didn’t want to say or ask.
Forgive me if I’m wrong!
The best interview that I seen him do was with Denzel Washington several years back.
That was a live interview. Denzel spoke some real shit…….or I was just a lil bit high….like I said “several years ago”.
R.I.P MAY GOD BLESS HIS FAMILY AND FRIENDS
My brother who is a young reporter (now with Miami’s Fox affiliate) won the ED Bradley Scholarship back in 2001. I had always admired him, but its amazing what you can learn about a person when they praise someone else. The words he used to express his respect and encouragement toward my brother made me appreciate his class and ethics. His death is a suprise to many. According to my brother he was a private man who prefer to report the news rather than be the news. I don’t think many people were aware of his illness. Although, my brother had mentioned that he had been looking increasingly fraile over the last couple of years.
God bless Ed Bradley, God bless his family.
NICE WELL SPOKEN SUCCESSFUL BLACK MAN
RIP Mr. Bradley.
60 Minutes is one of my favorites shows and I always looked forward to Ed Bradley’s interviews. He was the best and we lost a great journalist. He will be missed and I’m sad I won’t be able to enjoy any more of his interviews. Anyway, peace and prayers to his family.
And this to #9 – who cares if he was gay – I’ve never heard any rumors about his sexuality but he did leave a wife. Also, he looked cool with his hoop earring. Quit believing EVERY gay rumor around.
Carlus-thanks for clarification. I didn’t realize he was married…but am I correct to assume that he did NOT have children? I think he was a very private man and that’s maybe why some people thought that about him.
Wow. Hate to see another one go, RIP. i loved his pieces as well on 60 minutes.
Sad! Sad! Sad! I watched 60 minutes every week and I didn’t even know he was ill. I will definately miss him.

No one can bite your head off for asking questions! It would be more tragic if the truth were being concealed! This is just like when Luther died and they said it was due to complications surrounding pneumonia! People don’t have the right to die on their own terms, lest they commit suicide! The Lord giveth, He taketh away and no man knoweth the hour!
I too, heard the stories about Ed’s lifestyle, but I have not seen one shread of evidence…and one poster said he was married twice! So, some will wonder if he had cancer or was it something else! Some people are dishonored in death and medical records are falsified to appease the love ones!
I think its best to give this topic some time or I’ll guarantee you someone will get offended!
He was handsome. rip
wow man. he was one of the rare good brothas represented through the media.rest in peace
Damn, all our greats and legends are dying these past few years. Black people wake up and get your act together, this is a sign.
A tremendous loss for American journalism.
@9- Yeah. He was gay. Don’t you know EVERYFUCKIN’BODY
WOW! A POWERFUL, INFLUENTIAL, EDUCATED, MAN GONE, NOT JUST A BLACK MAN, BUT A MAN….RIP. GOD BLESS HIS FAMILY.
