I was browsing through the channel guide last night looking for something interesting to watch, and I saw that Jerry Seinfeld was gonna be on David Letterman…how ironic and coincidental is that? Seinfeld just “happened” to be a guest on the show on the day that Kramer made headlines for the “nigger” situation at the comedy club.

So I knew immediately that Letterman was gonna ask Seinfeld how he felt about the situation, so I decided to watch it. And indeed, Letterman immediately asked Seinfeld about it, and Seinfeld said he was very upset about it..then he said he called Kramer and asked him to make an appearance on the show last night to clear this thing up.

Kramer didn’t even know what to say. He was stumbling over every word that came out of his mouth. I have never heard him stutter like that before. He had soooo much to say at the comedy club, but he was at a loss for words on Letterman’s show. He sounded like an ignorant asshole last night. Couldn’t even get his response together. Fuck his apology..he know he meant that shit…he’s just pissed that his ass was the top story all day yesterday…fuck him. He gets no love from me.

#31 I understand that you feel his apology was sincere and u are entitled to your opinion. But you are saying because he is not a politician that his words hold no weight when it does. I don’t go around calling people spics, mutts, crackers, or chinks. Sorry doesn’t always take the pain away. And where everyone has it in them to forgive, do you ever really forget? It seems that something of this magnitude always happens every few years to let black people know in alot of people’s eyes we are still slaves.

Why are people arguing over the usage of the term when the true crime is INTENT? Kramer said NIGGER with negative intent. That’s totally different from someone like Chris Rock using the word NIGGA or NIGGER with the intent of not to harm or offend anyone, but to simply discuss the racial contrasts that exist in a comedic format.

I mean people can use explosives as fireworks or demolition devices. Or people can use explosives to harm or kill people. Whether you view explosives as being good or bad is purely based on the intent of each individual who uses them.

So yes, Kramer is a racist and he should be called out as such. And no, Chris Rock using the term in a comedic format doesn’t justify Kramer using it with an intent to verbally harm those Blacks within his audience in a moment of frustration.

In terms of his apology, I think it’s too little too late because from my experience, you show your true colors when you’re intoxicated and/or angry. In this case, he said what he felt in his moment of rage. It’s obvious that he’s felt this way for a VERY long time for him to even go that far so suddenly.

And as a business owner, I do a lot of networking and socializing with a diverse group of people. From what I’ve been told in confidence, White people are just as likely to bring up race and how they REALLY feel about other races in a private conversation among other Whites than Blacks are likely to bring it up in general conversation. They may not go as far as Kramer, but they will often bring up how inferior Blacks and other minorities are in their “compare and contrast” conversations. So the biggest crime to come from this is to believe that these feelings and opinions are isolated to Kramer. Your boss, your co-worker, your neighbor, your mailman, or whatever white person you come into daily contact in life may feel the same way overall about Black people though they may feel that you’re the exception.

So be wise to that reality as that is a common held perception of Black people WORLD WIDE and the best way to achieve equality and power in this world is through self-empowerment.

The best part of this entire fake ass interveiw is that he says he is “concerned about more rage and more hate coming through”; translated this means he is scared than a muthafucka that a bunch black folks will catch his ass at a red light, pull him outta his car and throw a brick at his cracker ass.

APOLOGY NOT ACCEPTED KRAMER…

It’s time to start saving to buy land, buying the stocks of excellent BLACK companies and giving them to our children for Christmas, etc.

I’m telling you: Start acquiring land, start looking into growing food organically or buy into Whole Foods, and get into the energy markets.

That is hard for a lot of us, so start small. Buy only what you need and get yourself a treat every now and then instead of catering to yourself all the time. Start thinking about investing in your neighborhoods and what you can do to make it better. Clean it up and look into getting a group together (who don’t have that crab mentality) and pool together to buy some of those broken down buildings that companies are snapping up for a song to build condos. Who says that a bunch of us can’t band together, without trying to do their “own thing” all the time? Where are you going to get your leverage? TOGETHER.

We’ve let the rest of the world convince us that race doesn’t matter and we’ve made ourselves so scared and embarrassed to talk about race that we don’t defend ourselves any more. Perfect example is the term “race card”. We let people use that term to trivialize our legitimate concerns and marginalize us. When is the last time you heard some body say “anti-Semitic card”?

Look at Hurricane Katrina, so many black people were afraid to even discuss the racial implications of that that tragedy. We all new race played a role (indirectly or directly) in that tragedy and how it was handled and reported, but very few people wanted to just say it out right. It’s as if we were scared of being accused of playing the “race card” or something. It takes a comedian’s ignorant tirade for a people to have discussion on race? If you ask me this is nothing. This is one person’s ignorant behavior. What we need to be concerned about are the people in power, who aren’t going to slip up and have their tirades in PUBLIC, do to us behind close doors. And we not to stop being so damn scared to discuss race.

Wake up black people, racism has not gone anywhere. Don’t be afraid to call it like you see it! Lets take the momentum from this incident and move on to something real!

This is the greatest country to live and work in when you look at the way other people live in other countries….look at the East of Europe. Poverty there and mostly white people. We live so much better than other people in other countries but the race thing really holds us all back!

I don’t buy the argument that what we say to each other has any basis on what other people say to us. Everything has context. I don’t think it’s necessarily the best way to refer to ourselves either, but there is certainly some argument that we have taken the word’s meaning and changed it by the way we use it with each other. White people damn well know it has another context when they use it and the Kramer tape is evidence of that. It’s one thing to say “What up, my nigga” in greeting and quite another for an angry white man to use the term to refer to black men who are heckling him in a public place. And especially when you’ve already suggested those black men should have been hung on trees for fucking with you. Every word has it’s use in context…”What the fuck?” and “Can we fuck?” mean two different things but they are the same word.
Whether or not we should say the word is debatable. Whether white folks should say it to us….is not.

Ideas: Carol’s Daughter, Black Art, gift baskets, shop on your friend’s online malls if they have them, gift cards to black spas, and etc.

Anyone who has studied the “romantic” languagees knows that the vowel pronunciation is different. So in the romantic languages “NIGER” is pronounced “NEE-GARE”. Virtually the same word as modern day “nigger”.

There are many times when I am ashamed of whites. I will never me defend hate or racism. God made everybody. He made everyone to be respected regardless of what they look like. I don’t understand racism & never will but unfortunately it very definitely exists. And people like Kramer make this blatantly clear.

Afro-American is not a racist term. That was the new classification for “black folks” that grew out of the Black Power movement in the 70s.

Frankly, I just wish there were two classifications: white and colored/coloured because it would eliminate all of these subtleties that people use that would justify why their race or ethnicity is better than the other. It would also prevent bi-racial/ multi-racial individuals from having to choose one race or mark “Other” because you would simply be mixed or colored. Unfortunately, the government would never let that happen because of the economic and political power that would accrue if people just simply said, “You know what, I’m colored/coloured”. And yes, I know “white” people are an mixture of other ethnicities as well, so the criteria for being “colored” would apply to them as well.

I really don’t see why we are angry, for we have brought this on ourselves. Comedians use nigger in their stand-up routines, rappers been dropping this word for a minute, hell even Damon Wayans applied for a patent to trademark the derivative, nigga to put on T-shirs so people could proudly display this word on their chest while walking down the street. All this time we could have been boycotting these “entertainers”, but we collectively support them. So all of this hoopla is really retroactive; time to be PROACTIVE.

I hope that most of you don’t subscribe to the statements being made about “nigga” and “nigger” being JUST WORDS, and only the intent matters, blah, blah, blah. For everyone out there saying black people should stop using the word NIGGA because it sends the wrong message I have something for you to think about. When have you ever heard a black person call another black person a NIGGER. I hear NIGGA all the time and no matter what anyone says they are two different words. Just like WITCH and BITCH.

NIGGA is a TERM OF ENDEARMENT for us. Every race and nationality has it’s own terms of endearment and issues. I have no desire to learn or repeat any other races terms nor do I have the right to every use them. Now there are other races that grow up around black people and hear the word daily so the word NIGGA may slip out their mouth that doesn’t mean it should become part of their vocabulary but I understand why it my slip out. But who uses the word NIGGER besides racist?

EXAMPLE: My man calls me Sweet Cheeks. But I won’t let anyone else call me that. My brother called me Tight Eyes but no one else better call me that unless I give them permission. Get my point?

The only thing that ass is sorry about is that he got caught on tape. Just viewed the video on YouTube. It was worse than I thought. The trouble with us as black people is that something like this has to happen to remind us how we perceived in this world. No matter where about in the world we live most of us have experienced some form of racism. The trouble is we should have been a stronger race years ago we should be in a position where the next generation would only have known about racism from history books. (maybe a this sounds a bit far from reality). The thing is once this blows over we go back to our normal lives until something else happens. I have to agree with a lot of you, when black folks make comments that white folks don’t like, they try to erase us but when they say something, we are supposed to forgive. Just like we are supposed to forgive and forget they took us from Africa and forced us to build this country(and others) for free. This is a prime example of why we, as a people, need to STOP using that word. Use of this word is disrespectful to the many generations of our ancestors who endured the humiliation and degradation that it inflicted, and they were virtually powerless to change it. Hey everyone! I just had to comment… I’ve been following the aftermath of M. Richard’s tirade since it occured.

First off, I am a white male and, I was horrified, beyond belief when I heard about what happened and, subsequently watched the video. When I watched the footage, I was desperately hoping it had been blown out of proportion (because, I have been a long time fan of Richards’ and, of Seinfeld. He was so likeable on there…) Well, unfortunately, it was 1000 times worse than I’d imagined. I was physically sickened.

Some of my best friends/co-workers are African-American. (a good buddy, Chris, calls me his “N***a” sometimes and, he means it in a brotherly, non-offensive way. Obviously, I would never dream of calling HIM that. I KNOW the difference. It’s the intent behind what you say. White people KNOW the difference between when a black person uses that word and, when someone who’s not black uses it.) I once dated a gorgeous, dark-sknned Brazillian girl… and, some of my favorite musicians (Jimi Hendrix, Phil Lynott, etc.) are or were black.

It really hurt my heart when I read some of the comments on here. Do so many of you really think all white people are that way? Look, the world is beyond crazy. People are cloning things and, mixing animal & human DNA, etc… Everything is out of control and, we are ALL in the same boat. The truth is, unless we work together, we are ALL in serious trouble.

Once, when walking & listening to my cd player, I was confronted by 4 or 5 black guys who started talking to me & about me like I was trash.. “That’s one ugly cracker..” “What are you gonna do about it honkey?”

I was crushed. Me, of all people, being called that kind of stuff. I used to have long hair & was overweight at the time. A cop pulled me over once to make sure I hadn’t stolen MY car.. So, I know how it hurts to be judged (or, mis-judged) based on one’s appearance. It sucks! ..and, it hurts.

Michael Richards, obviously, has some deep issues and, was wrong. At the same time, I can tell you that, as nice and honest a person as I am, I have said some horrible things to people from time to time- when I was frustrated or hurt and, didn’t have a legitimate way to respond, I grabbed what I knew would hurt and, threw it as hard as I could- many times at people I loved the most.

It doesn’t make up for what he said but, NONE of us are perfect.

Richards’ actions, on that day, were so outrageous that I’m not sure he doesn’t have some sort of chemical imbalance, similar to Tourettes Syndrome or something.

My point is (and, this has gotten really long…sorry), the guy F#####d up..MAJOR but, please, don’t respond to his hateful, hurtful comments with MORE hate, directed at all whites. People are much more similar than we are different, I believe…

One last thought: While I do agree M. Richards has some inner demons to expel, I DO, honestly believe that he is crushed. I believed he shocked even himself and, his bumbling apology, to me shows that, he spoke for himself, from his heart (off kilter as his words were) and, I think his outburst (mostly) came from being embarrased & hurt that his show was bombing and his ego was bruised. Again, not a justification for what he did. I just hate to see a person thrown away completely over a momentary lapse of reason and, if ever there was cause to plead “temporary insanity,” that was IT.

Anyway, Happy Thanksgiving (even that is pretty screwed up because, we are celebrating people who murdered the native Americans)

The another disturbing angle to this is that the group that he started going off on was racially mixed. This was not about two black men heckling him, it was about a group of about 20 people coming in late. It was a group of blacks, whites and asians — yet he singled out the black men in the group for his disdain instead of the entire group. You have absolutely no reason to feel ashamed in any way of your race, there are bigots in all races (most Asians are very racist against both blacks and whites). People on this site have mentioned slavery - Slavery has been accepted by every culture since the beginning of history, but it was white Christians who decided that slavery was wrong and eventually stopped it, although it still exists in parts of Africa and the Middle East.

No person should ever apologise for his/her race, or because members of one’s race committed crimes in the past. No race has clean hands and every race has practised slavery. The African chieftains who sold their own people into slavery are just as guilty as the white slavers who bought them. The native Americans had slaves also. They made slaves of captives taken from other tribes and any white female unfortunate enough to be taken alive was usually raped and enslaved.

The majority of people are most comfortable with members of their own race. Otherwise, why do Asians live together, why do immigrants create ghettos, why do people mostly marry within their own race? This is a human thing, not a racist thing.

I still believe that if you have to use that word to express yourself, you need to visit Sylvan Learning Center.

Oh please! Read some real history books and you will discover that most of the inventions you are claiming were invented in Britain and Europe during the Industrial Revolution. Patenting or modifying/improving something is not the same as inventing it. These things are part of history and were recorded at the time they were invented.

It’s never ok for anyone in the public eye to get on a stage and scream racist rhetoric, whether white or black.
Whites and blacks BOTH say things about eachother, but when either one gets up on stage and screams not only racist remarks, but deeply racist and hurtful remarks, that’s when people get really upset.
