When you make derogatory statements like that about anybody, no matter who you are, you are only hurting yourself. It is a reflection of you and shows your true self, along with what things get under your skin. A virtuous person is able to control his or her own anger and remain respectful under uncomfortable situations. When you resort to something like disrespectful name calling, you are not hurting the other person, you are hurting yourself by opening up and showing the world your weakness and immaturity. I have many white friends and have had some very kind people in my life who have shown me just as much love as black people. I have to agree with some of the comments and say that it wasn’t so much of him calling them a ni****, it was about the lynching comment. Just the thought of our people hanging from trees brings tears to my eyes because it was real, and one of the many ways they dehumanized us and tortured us.

Now, the issue of the use of the word ni*** by blacks and everyone else, my thoughts may differ, but it is my opinion. I think that we somewhat are making people think its okay to use the word because we use it so often. All blacks know where the word came from and why it is offensive. But I think because of that we took the word from the originators and made it something positive to us. We don’t use the word to degrade ourselves, we use it to recognize our culture and not forget where we and the word came from. Instead of “My Brotha” we say “My Nigga” meaning friend or homie.

Things like that don’t just pop up spur of the moment he probably felt that way since he was born and as much as he may apologize, if he actually does, it wont be sincere most likely it will be for his career or at least whatever is left of it. And I’m sorry but if that was my club there would have been no way in hell that he could have preformed again the next night.

Alpha Kappa Alpha (ΑΚΑ) Sorority, Incorporated, formed in January 15, 1908 at Howard University, became America’s first Greek-letter organization established by Black college women, and remains a predominately African-American sorority. The sorority’s membership, however, includes women of Caucasian, Asian, and Hispanic descent. The sorority serves all mankind through a nucleus of more than 185,000 women in over 950 chapters located in the United States, the Caribbean, Germany, Korea and Japan. Alpha Kappa Alpha women can be found on every continent in the world.[citation needed]

Alpha Kappa Alpha cultivates and encourages high scholastic and ethical standards, promotes unity and friendship among college women, alleviates problems concerning girls and women, maintains a progressive interest in college life. The Howard University students were led by Ethel Hedgeman Lyle into creating the sisterhood of Alpha Kappa Alpha in 1908. Lyle was inspired by her then high school and college sweetheart George Lyle, a charter member the Beta chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity at Howard in 1907.[1] She viewed the Sorority as an instrument for enriching the social and intellectual aspects of college life by providing mental stimulation through interaction with friends and associates. In 1912, a schism in the sorority led to twenty-two members leaving AKA in 1913 and founding the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority.[2] Nellie Quander led the group which incorporated the sorority as a national body in 1912 and as a perpetual body in 1913.

Alpha Kappa Alpha has established programs which have had a direct impact for the African-American community. Members of Alpha Kappa Alpha are concerned with the plight of the Black community in relation was exemplied by its participation in the 1913 Women Suffragette March to its tireless work in eradicating lynching.

During the Great Migration, members assisted the Travelers Aid Society, helping Southern Blacks adjust to life in North, and volunteered at the Freedman’s Hospital. Alpha Kappa Alpha worked with the Mississippi Health Project providing education and books to rural areas, and began a Summer School for Rural Teachers offering courses for self-improvement.

The National Non-Partisan Council on Public Affairs was created as a means to lobby politicians. The onset of World War II inspired the council to institute the Direct War Services/Complete Victory/Post War Reconstruction program.

In the 1950s, Alpha Kappa Alpha joined the American Council of Human Rights and National Health Office, implemented programs on health, social action, scholarship, and undergraduate housing as it continued its directon into public service.

The 1960s and 1970s eras paved the path for the AKAs to sponsor job training, reading enrichment, heritage, and youth programs. By encouraging youth to improve math, science, and reading skills, the sorority continued its legacy of community service and its pledge to enrich the lives of others . Alpha Kappa Alpha’s high standards of excellence allows students in need and those who chose to study abroad to benefit from a fund created by AKA. Those same high standards stand today as evident in their current programs.

The National Program theme for 2006-2010 administration, led under Alpha Kappa Alpha’s International President Barbara A. McKinzie, is “The Heart of ESP: An Extraordinary Service Program.” ESP is an acronym for Economics, Sisterhood, and Partnerships. The purpose of ESP is to energize and strengthen service to the community and sisterhood within Alpha Kappa Alpha. The five platforms included in the International Program and implemented in the Ivy AKAdemy are:

The Ivy Reading AKAdemy provides programs that encourage the entire community to become involved. It serves as an educational and human resource center for programs provided by Alpha Kappa Alpha.

Working with No Child Left Behind in mind, “The Ivy Reading AKAdemy,” a reading initiative, focuses on early learning and mastery of basic reading skills by the end of third grade. All chapters are requested to implement a kindergarten through third grade after-school reading initiative. A $2.7 million dollar proposal is currently pending with the United States Department of Education to fund a three-year nationwide after-school demonstration project in low-performing, economically deprived inner city schools in 16 sites within the continental United States.

Alpha Kappa Alpha’s Educational Advancement Foundation (EAF) has the mission to promote life-long learning. Staying true to its founding values, they continue to provide scholarships, fellowships, and mini-grants to those who apply and meet the criteria regardless of race, creed, or gender.

The sorority is a founder and member of the National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC). The NPHC is composed of nine international predominantly black Greek-letter sororities and fraternities. The NPHC promotes interaction through forums, meetings, and other mediums for the exchange of information, and engages in cooperative programming and initiatives through various activities and functions.[4]

Michael Richards, best known as Kramer from Seinfeld, hurled racial epithets at black audience members who apparently heckled him during a standup show in L.A. on Friday night.

The Web site TMZ.com posted a video of the incident on Monday (click here to watch the video). It shows Richards, 57, taunting the men for interrupting his show. “Shut up! Fifty years ago we’d have you upside down with a f–ing fork up your a–,” he yells.

He paces the stage, then continues: “You can talk, you can talk, you can talk, you’re brave now mother–. Throw his a– out. He’s a n–!”

Richards then screams the n-word four more times while pointing to the hecklers in the balcony, drawing uncomfortable murmurs from the crowd. The two sides continue to trade insults, and then Richards eventually leaves the stage for good.

The incident took place at The Laugh Factory, a comedy club in West Hollywood.

According to the Associated Press, CNN managed to get in touch with the actor, who declined to speak on-camera but expressed remorse over the episode and said he had made amends.

Richards’s former Seinfeld costar, Jerry Seinfeld, said in a statement to TV’s Extra, “I am sick over this. I’m sure Michael is also sick over this horrible, horrible mistake. It is so extremely offensive. I feel terrible for all the people who have been hurt.”

Reps for Richards could not immediately be reached for comment.

The Laugh Factory has banned Richards and promised to post a warning to all comedians to avoid offensive language.

Of almost 40,000 respondants as of roughly 2pm, EST, 40 percent (that’s FORTY PERCENT!!!!), said, “No.” Almost HALF said this man’s tirade was not racist. We need to wake up. Just cause we don’t get called “Niggers” overtly anymore doesn’t mean they aren’t thinking it. That poll demostrated how pervasive racist TENDENCIES really are. Certainly not every White person is racist, but I think more of them don’t like us than they would ever admit.

Why are people arguing over the usage of the term when the true crime is INTENT? Kramer said NIGGER with negative intent. That’s totally different from someone like Chris Rock using the word NIGGA or NIGGER with the intent of not to harm or offend anyone, but to simply discuss the racial contrasts that exist in a comedic format.

I mean people can use explosives as fireworks or demolition devices. Or people can use explosives to harm or kill people. Whether you view explosives as being good or bad is purely based on the intent of each individual who uses them.

So yes, Kramer is a racist and he should be called out as such. And no, Chris Rock using the term in a comedic format doesn’t justify Kramer using it with an intent to verbally harm those Blacks within his audience in a moment of frustration.

Today, I recently read about the racist remarks that actor Michael Richards made onstage at the Laugh Factory this weekend. There is no doubt that his remarks are unacceptable and absolutely cannot be tolerated in American society. Moreover, I find it ironic that a man who has portrayed one of New York’s beloved characters would find himself under public scrutiny. While his words, filled with rage and contempt towards African Americans is real, it is difficult to reconcile his comments when African Americans, Latinos, Koreans and even Whites impose the word nigger onto themselves in common exchanges and expressions. There has not been one day when I have traveled on the subway in the past four years of living in New York that I do not hear that word being tossed around like it is a term of endearment. I hear high school age students (and much younger children), utter this term in exchange of most pronouns. I hear parents referring to their sons and daughters as a reprimand for misbehavior. I hear girlfriends referring to their significant others as nigger as if it is a pet name. It deeply interests (read: disturbs) me how this can be manipulated into such a troubling double standard.
Users of this word will argue that suffixes matter. They will say that “ah” is acceptable whereas “errr” will put you in direct harm. To me, the root of the word has so much history of hate that it is of no consequence which ending you emphasize. Users of this word will also argue that it is essential to reclaim racial epithets so that they can be converted into positive terms within the community. I find that in rare occasions this can be realized. When I look at other cultural groups, I find that I do not witness the same sort of exchanges that I hear among my community. I don’t hear Jews humorously discussing Anti Semitism, I don’t hear White people saying “What up, my honky,” I don’t hear Asian folks referring to themselves as chinks or other unmentionable names. But every group has found some comfort in using the word nigger in casual, comical, every day vernacular.
I hope that African American leaders will hold Mr. Richards accountable for his behavior. At the same time, I encourage them to also make a challenge to our community that it is also unacceptable to continue to perpetuate this double standard. There is no question that most pop culture, music, fashion and the arts are modeled directly from the urbane African American. I believe that we can model better.

I believe that’s what A LOT of white people think about us. When I’ve heard/hear white people say some fucked up shit to my people, they’re always in a group or while they’re driving by they’ll holler out “Nigger!” while speeding away. They know they have the law on their side because if one of them is stupid enough to say it to your face and stand there, once you start stompin them into a puddle of white goo, you’re the one sitting in the back of the police car while their white asses are pressing charges. Violence doesn’t solve anything, although it’ll make you feel some temporary relief. So now we as black people need to start thinking with our heads and hit them where it hurts, in their finances. Black people are the biggest consumers in this country, but yet we have no assets (house,stock, savings…)White people, or any people can and will say or do whatever fucked up shit they can because in the end everybody answers to God and he will fix you in a way that no human can!

I really can’t believe that this shit happen and I feel that Kramer has open up a comfort door to a lot a white people who want to use the word “Nigger” so bad (but I betcha they asses will never get that bold and say it to a black persons face.) -What a lot of people fail to realize is that in the United States by law, blacks cannot be racist bcuz we stand as a minority, we do not have the power. Yes, we can be insensitive and degrading but we cannot be racist.

-The word “Nigger” is never used by the black race bcuz it’s an insult and it’s a derogatory name. We use the word “Nigga” for correlation, it’s a word that we use for bonding, not to insult one another so please understand that.

-When a white person uses the word they use it out of anger and to insult a black person. They don’t use it to joke around or for bonding, so it doesn’t make it okay for them to utilize it.
