Does the name Amadou Diallo ring a bell? Sadly, we have another one of those cases on our hands. NYPD is back to their old tricks and recently shot and killed another unarmed black man.
Sean Bell (seen above with his fiance) and two of his friends were leaving his bachelor party and jumped in the car only to be shot at about 50+ times by the NYPD. Here is more info:
Officers fired 50 rounds at a car carrying the men after it struck an unmarked police minivan. The three were unarmed.
The dead man was named as Sean Bell, 23. He was due to marry Nicole Paultre, 22, the mother of his two daughters, on Saturday afternoon. The two wounded men, Joseph Guzman, 21, and Trent Benefield, 23, were taken to hospital, where Mr Guzman was listed in critical condition. Joseph was shot 11x, while Trent was shot about 3x.
New York Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly yesterday confirmed the men’s car had been struck 21 times. He said that an undercover officer inside the club reported that the men had been involved in a fight and a firearm may have been involved.
Civil rights activist the Rev Al Sharpton challenged police to explain what had happened. He said:
“This stinks. Something about this story does not seem right.”
The Rev Sharpton claimed Mr Guzman had been struck up to 17 times. [SOURCE]

This is a damn shame, and get this…. The five officers were placed on paid administrative leave during the investigation. What the fuck? 50 shots at three unarmed men, and they are getting a paid leave? Ridiculous..

The cops shouldnt have shot @ the car…..It’s one of the rules of the NYPD…do not shoot @ moving vehciles, unless gun shoot is being fired from the vehicle, in this case there was no gun…..Also the undercop who made the first shoot had “two” beers @ the club so who’s to say his judgement wasnt clouded…
This case is clearly downhill for the officers…epsecially the “drunk” one that made the call to fire @ the men..It was really his fault….I feel bad for the other officers who got caught up in this mess….RIP…

It seems that most of these police officers let their badge go to their head and basically just do whatever the hell they want even if that includes killing someone. I have a friend that’s in the police academy now and he told me that he’s memorizing people’s license plate numbers so that he can go back and give them tickets once he graduates from the academy. So to me his frame of mind is already changing. I do not want to be a cop. I have no respect for the majority of them.
Even though the cops involved were all minority (two blacks and one latino), the fact of the matter is that, it was the ultimate form of racial profiling that ended in the loss of a life. There is no reason for firing 50 shots at an unharmed suspect. It is great to see that Mayor Bloomberg has condemned the acts of these murderers. These are nothing but cold blooded murderers moonlighting as police officers. These cops involved should be charged for 1st Degree Murder, prosecuted and be imprisoned for the rest of their natural lives. (Only because NY does not have the death penalty). Racial Profiling needs to stop!

These men weren’t armed with hand held weapons, but they were smashing Bell’s Altima into the undercover police’s van, into actual officers. That’s sometimes almost more of a lethal weapon.
Were the cops fucked up? ABSOLUTELY. Was this a murder? ABSOLUTELY!! Maybe an execution even.
The cops did not identify themselves as cops. In fact they were so undercover that they were inside the strip club which was on surveillance, drinking while on the job. Bell and friends had just gotten into a scuffle inside the club prior to leaving, and were already on edge. They were being followed to their cars by these officers, who once the men were inside their car, they jumped on the hood, and pointed guns at them.
It’s tragic, and heartwrenching. But I do have a problem with a site like this 1) being so late in even posting the news, an event that’s been lighting NYC on fire since Saturday, and 2) over-victimizing an already clear martyr.

Truthfully, I hate cops. My father was a police officer, so I am not talking out the side of my mouth, here. All my experiences that I have had with cops were never pleasant. When I used to live in the inner city area, I was always being profiled and sometimes physically abused by cops. I think cops are natural born pussies, who need the badge and a gun in order to feel like somebody.
I salivate when I hear on the news that a cop dies. The only good cop is a dead cop.

I’m over these renegade cops harrassing innocent Black men. The other day I watched the police round my way, bust up a football game and frisk about 12 little boys who looked to be 10 or 11. They harrassed these kids for about 20 minutes, and even frisked some of them twice. A couple of them were crying and everything and then the cops just got back in the car and left. I can’t imagine what that did to those young brothas. This shit has got to stop.

Can you explain why the undercover cops who were already in the club who witnessed the victims involved in a fight (a crime) in the club did not identify themselves at that moment or even place them under arrest? they may still be alive if they had.
And can you imagine being involved in a fight with someone in a club and fleeing from the club and jumping in your car to get away and someone (not a cop because you don’t have a damn clue that’s who it is) is on top of your damn hood with guns drawn-do you think maybe they thought they were the same people they had been in a fight with and thought let’s get the hell out of here!

i understand that they may have been rowdy before leaving the club and may have run the car into the police van (intentionally or not) but what ever happened to shooting to injure so that you can take the person(s) into custody instead of just killing them??? there is no excuse for shooting all those rounds into the car and those men!!!! if they were so damn worried about the car hitting them they could have shot out the tires and forced the men out of the car… if they were worried about the men having weapons they could have easily shot them in the arm or leg then cuffed them… at least they would have been alive today.

Two summers ago in DC:
Story comes on the News and In the papers:
17-yr old male brutally beat to death by a another group of young men.
Summary: The victim offered to buy the girl a slurpee. She declined and her cousins beat him to death and then rolled him into the street, where he was run over by a speeding car and left dead.
Conclusion: It was the girl’s fault and the guys are cold-blooded, idiot murderers. All the vicitm tried to do was be nice. Sobbing mama, etc…etc…
Reality (I was there until I saw the suspects cross the street):
A girl was with some guys and a couple other girls. She came across the street to go to a vendor. The guy tried to “holla” at her. She ignored him. He asked if he could buy her a soda, she declined. He off the wall started calling her every type of bitch, slut, hoe, freak, nasty-ass, and dirty-everything in the book, but the child of God. She tried to defend herself from his verbal attack by telling him that “He dont know her” and “He better watch his mouth”….he proceeds to get all up in her grill….some men are trying to pull him back and he’s telling them he’s gonna “slap the shit out of that bitch” she’s leaving….and her “crew” comes over. By this point….me and mine are GONE far from sight.
Later on the news, they flipped the script. Were these guys wrong for killing dude—OF course!
Was he over-vicitimized—-hell yea. He was an egotistical, womanizing asshole….but no one wants to write or put on TV what ACTUALLY happened—it still makes him a victim—but the sob case makes it a more news-worthy story.

I live in NYC and was in my bed Saturday night when a friend of mine called me to tell me about a young man that had been shot at 50x. I was already ready to cry when I heard it. I don’t have cable, (because I don’t watch tv, never home), SUnday morning when I saw the paper, I started crying right on the train platform. Here was a VERY handsome black couples, with two pretty little girls, future DESTROYED because some trigger happy and ready cops was too scared and judgmental in a situation where they should’ve been brave. To be BLACK is a sin, that’s how I feel at times. I always worry about my two brothers who not only have to worry about their OWN attempting to harm them, but also these idiots in blue who will harm them as well.
I am so sorry for his fiance who has to pass the holidays without the love of her life, his girls without a father, his parents without their child, and his siblings without a brother. If we could just UNIFY as a people, things would change. But that won’t ever happen at least not in my lifetime.
As much as I want those cops to be annihilated, I already know there will be no justice, and no paycheck will heal those wounds of his loved ones. I only hope that the GOD I believe in is real and HE will bestow a swift hand of justice to these murderers in due time.

Basically what happened is there was an undercover sting in the club. The 3 young guys had no idea a sting was going on. They left the club and the undercover officers followed them to the car. The 3 young guys got in their ride and were surrounded by the cops who NEVER identified themselves as cops. The 3 got scared and tried to drive off thinking they were going to be attacked by guys the had beef with in the club. The officers blocked them from leaving and the car accidentally hit the officers vehicle. One of the officers jumped on the car and the other 3 started firing into the car. Damn shame.

The car as a deadly weapon line is total BS. It’s obvious that Bell’s group was afraid that the men they’d just argued with were coming after them. If the idiotic police officer had just stepped out of the way he would not have been hit.
Truth time: The officer was desperate for some action. He wanted something to go down and it did.
This is the reason why I no longer have any sympathy for slain officers any longer. There have been far too many incidents like this one. I personally feel like it’s fair game out in the streets now. If a cop gets shot – oh, well. It should not be that way but when the people assigned to protect and serve you are the same ones harassing and killing you, then it’s fair game. I also feel that anyone stupid enough to become a cop, KNOWING the risks deserves whatever is coming to him. Why would I jump in the lion’s den if I can’t accept the consequences? If that lion decides to make me his prey, it’s my own fault – I knew the consequences and accepted them. Additionally, if I jump in the lion’s den and start PROVOKING the lion, harassing him at every opportunity and killing some of the lion’s pack – then I deserve whatever I got coming to me because I’m a damn idiot. Bottom line is that this man is dead. No, he was not perfect. I also think it was tacky and petty for them to list his prior offenses considering that they had nothing to do with the situation in question. But, this is another dead Black man who was young and trying to do the right thing, marrying the mother of his children and having a family. Another Black family destroyed because of nonsense. If a car is fleeing from the scence, a cop in NYC is not supposed to shoot…Now if the driver is trying to run over the cop, the cop (under the rules or NYC) is still not supposed to shoot @ the car, but I’m sure in this sistuation survival mode and not the rules will take over…
However in this sistuation, the cops werent supposed to shoot, b/c the men werent trying to run down any police officers they were trying to flee….either way the cop didnt see it that way

Do those guys that killed him deserce life in prison, Hell yea b/c 9 times out of 10, they were JUST LIKE HIM…it just so happened that they werent in his shoes that day.
My point was…I want the truth. I want to knoe if the cops ID themselves as cops. I want to know if the guys really did ramsack their truck. I want to know if one of the guys in the deceased’s car WAS under suspicion.
I want to know all that happened up until shots were fired. I want to know a lot.
Yes, these cops deserve to go to jail for the rest of their natural lives. Yes, they deserve to lose everything.
BUT, DAMNIT I LIVE IN AMERICA WERE I CAN REQUEST TO KNOW WHAT REALLY HAPPENED, EVEN IF I NEVER FIND OUT. And I want the truth…i dont care what you have to say about it or anyone else…give me an un-biased attendee @ the club who was there from jump street and then I’ll believe this story.
The truth won’t cheapen his death—it will give ME persepctive to decide how angry I should be!

I agree with you Bill. Why they did not just shoot the tires out is beyond us all.
My point was to simply look at the issue from all sides but in no way do I want to take away from the fact that these young men were the ones victimized.
IT LOOKS REALLY BAD FOR THE COPS…BUT WORSE FOR THE YOUNG MEN THAT HAD TO BEAR THE BRUNT OF THEIR AROGANCE.
I don’t want anyone on here to think that I think they were justified in firing upon unarmed men and furthermore these men might not have had anything to do with their reason for being undercover in the first place.
I agree with the post who said the cops and the media will spin this the way they want.
I don’t believe everything that comes on the news or read in the paper or on the web. That is why we have to get information.
I hope to GOD they pay for taking this young mans life so sincelessly.
But I guess it is hard to know what the truth is unless you were a witness to the crime and sometimes that is not enough to guarantee the truth will come out.
You know how the police can threaten witnesses.
My heart aches for the families of those young men and for the young man that lost his future. Such a shame that so many young black men can’t get the respect they deserve.
I live here in the NYC area, and depending on what newspaper you read, you will come away feeling a certain way…
If you read the New York Post, you will feel that they police officers were justified.
If you read the New York Daily News you will feel that the Three Black Men were unfairly profiled and shot !!!
The truth of the matter is this: How can anyone JUSTIFY 50 shots on UNARMED INDIVIDUALS !!!
@ bill– thank you!!! that’s exactly what i’m saying… you have to take every thing with a grain of salt and realize there’s two sides to a story but the police’s story don’t even sound right!!!! when you add up all the accounts of the story, the guys’ story and the cops, the police come out dirty!
i’ll say the same thing i said yesterday about kramer…. they need to PAY!!!! not for the sake of them seeing the error of their ways but to let them know this shit can’t go down anymore!!!! no more shooting up people cuz you have a badge!!! no more getting off for committing crimes just cuz you have a badge!!!!
